Should Sarawak pull out of Malaysia?
Giving Sarawak $1 billion is a waste of public money. Why did the PM give it to Sarawak? There is no need to reward them for winning the PRU12 – after all without BN Sarawak is nothing.
The above statement was directed at Sarawak by a 33 year old man living in Petaling Jaya, Selangor. In the first place, what has Sarawak done to help Malaysia he said. Being a Dayak Iban from Sarawak – it gives me a great insight on the thinking of young West Malaysian and their knowledge of Malaysia as a whole.
Where is the oil money from sarawak?
I was thinking – whose money was used to build PETRONAS TWIN tower, the MENARA Kuala Lumpur, the Malaysian capital – PUTRA JAYA. If these projects were built by PETRONAS, then most of the money would have come from Sarawak and Terengganu. Why build such project in Kula Lumpur – it should be built in Bintulu or Miri, so those working for PETRONAS would stay in Bintlu / Miri, spent their income in Sarawak and tourist would come and see the TWIN towers in Sarawak. It would have made Sarawak richer. Now this project is put inside Wilayah – and young west Malaysia took it for granted that it comes from their father’s pocket. For Sarawakian, we were made poor by PETRONAS, and even poorer by our State leader for not fighting hard enough to ask for an increase in oil royalty.
Many young Sarawakian – much more than before responded to the suffering of the Sarawak people today by thinking aloud, should we not PULL OUT of MALAYSIA. What have we gained by joining Malaysia?
WHERE ARE THE MONEY?
Looking at the physical development of Sarawak, it lacks so many things even the most basic needs – road, water, electricity, education and health. Why are we still so dependent on river transport? Why are Sarawak trunk roads in such poor condition and lack proper facilities for drivers. Why are clean drinking water so difficult to get and still no electricity to dwelling places that are located in some urban areas and most sub-urban areas.
Money from timber? Has it gone into the pocket of elite businessman and corrupted politician and civil service officers. A timber tug boat operator now own Shin Yang, one of the largest timber company and has hundreds and thousand of acres of plantation land- how can that be? It can be – when the chief politician made it so. In the process, the people of Sarawak are deprived of its wealth generated from valuable tropical trees that the natives has held it so dear to their heart. The jungle is the major provider of their needs. For the rich man, he sent in gangsters to his estate to subdue any dayak from making complaint and demand for a better living. Dayak got the wrong end of the stick in ALL cases.
Money from oil?
Many are asking what has happened to the money we get from oil royalty? We are now suffering from oil price hike now, when did we enjoy money from oil then? Price of gas cylinder for cooking is reaching $180.00 per tank in rural Sarawak. The natives could not understand that such products are produced in Bintulu – from Sarawak gas field and we are paying that high a price. The West Malaysian are paying much less – and they are the one that has no gas -when we take Terengganu equation out. Why are we not seeing good schools and health care for the rural folks. The “Flying doctors” service is still too limited, while billion worth of hospitals are build in West Malaysia – not one but many in just one city. In Sarawak – the Sarawak General Hospital was built maybe 4 decades ago. Do we have a new one – the answer is NO? We do have new expansive private hospital that poor rural folks has no chance of using it as they don’t have money.
Money fro hydro-dam
The Batang Ai hydro dam has now shown the true problems caused by relocation of the people living in the area. No land to expand their farming activity, SALCRA providing minimum wages for their work in the plantation and low return from their share in Salcra. The gov’t has short change the people – and the same gov’t headed by the same person after 30 plus years is ignoring the plight of the poor people in Lubuk Antu. You just need to go to Lubuk Antu – what major economic activities has been implemented? The answer is NONE – as the gov’t idea of helping the poor rakyat is just “give them” not training them to have skill and knowledge to better themselves. Some Dayak leaders are there, to ensure that the Dayak do not progress and therefor easier control for political gain. Are electricity made available to longhouses and villages in nearby areas? The answer is NO.
The Bakun dam is near completion. Is it going to benefit Sarawak poor – the answer is NO. It will feed the richer West Malaysian State, to provide power to their industry. Why don’t they relocate their industry to Sarawak? Too expansive, Sarawak lack basic infrastructure, it lacks skill worker, it has limited port facilities, poor transport system, it lacks town that can provide comfort for the employee etc – . That goes to show that the rich suck on the poor man resources and are not paying for such resources in a correct manner. Otherwise – why are the poor getting poorer? Why should we still stay with Malaysia?
Money from palm oil plantation
Where is the money earned from plantation? We all know that the biggest plantation companies are from West Malaysia and UMNO link company. Just go to their office, the senior management teams and managers are West Malaysian. The field supervisors and labourers are local Sarawak – we can’t help but feel “colonised” and made second class citizen of Malaysia. Our prime land are taken to feed West Malaysian – who felt in turn that giving $1 billion to Sarawak is a waste of public money. Not even after Sarawak gave the BN government its valuable support – we feel very disappointed and hurt by this attitude. It is time for Sarawakian to think about leaving Malaysia.
Leaving Malaysia – why?
Sarawak has not received what is due to them. Sarawak has been side-line and ignored – no senior position in the Federal Civil Service, No senior members in the police and army, no important position in the cabinet, Sarawak bumiputera is even 4th class in the ranking behind the major races in West Malaysia. We didn’t join Malaysia – to learn only to speak Bahasa Malaysia and Islam as our official religion – causing hardship to people from other faith to get government financial support and respect. We did not join Malaysia to champion “Ketuanan Melayu” and be made used of by UMNO elitist to further their hold on political power and corrupted practice.
We want justice, we want equality, we want respect, we want dignity in our life. We do not need to “bow” and ” kneel” and “plead” for what is rightly ours. We want our money to develop ourselves and be able to live a better life. From frustration with the BN government under Abdullah, we are even thinking of leaving Malaysia. It has brought us untold misery and frustration with their bias leadership and poor planning accorded the state of Sarawak.
Dayak Political Party
WHY IS THE FEDERAL GOVERNMENT NOT APPROVING DAYAK WISH TO FORM A POLITICAL PARTY KNOWN AS “MALAYSIAN DAYAK CONGRESS” ? They should ensure that the races are represented by political organization of their choice. We want to have our political freedom of choice and association. We do not want to feel that there is ethnic genocide in Sarawak too.
Sarawak for Sarawakian!!!!
It is the very policy and structure of BN government that is causing Sarawak to lag behind so far from the rest of malaysia. The “white termite” can shout about nonsense – the dayak are equal to the rest of the Malaysian population etc, because he wants to feel good about himself who has overstayed his welcome and value. The “white termite” make certain elite in the community rich beyond their wildest dream. Has this elitist help Sarawak poor – the answer is still NO.

MANA DUIT MINYAK SARAWAK?
Empangan Stesen Janakuasa Elektrik Hidro Batang Ai akhirnya menimbulkan pelbagai masaalah akibat pemindahan penduduk sekitarnya. Jawapannya TIDAK.
Empangan Bakun pula hampir siap.
Jawapannya masih TIDAK.

We have to pull out, for the good of Sarawak we have no other choice.
First we did not join an Islamic state in the 1st place in 1963, no body can disagree. 2nd we did not join Malaysia to give them 95% revenue from our oil field. Look at Brunei and Singapore to find the answers, if we did half as well we could be much richer than Malaysia. Singapore has accumulated US300 Billion in their foreign reserve and Sarawak is luck to get RM1 Billion (US 0.31 Billion) from the BN government to run projects? What? Tell me this is just a joke!
We lost the whole forest and oil field, can you imagine now the bridge they are building across Rajang River and we folks getting crossing between Sibu and Sarikei still have to pay a toll. What misfortune are we Sarawakian, God please save Sarawak. I cry and pray for Sarawakian so that all of you will wake up from your deep slumber.
sarawak should be independence
this is what we should fight for
The “cold feet” reactions by Masing and Mawan to Abdul Taib’s suggestion that both PRS and SPDP upon their merger should consider joining PBB were really a slap on the face on the chief minister.
Visit http://thebrokenshield.blogspot.com/2008/06/cold-feet-reactions-to-taibs-suggestion.html to read the article..
Brooke cared for Sarawakians more then this Muslim Malauy government in KL…Sarawak should have pulled out yesterday……..but it is not too late…..it’s greatest enemies are not in KL…..but in Kucing itself….UMNO’s well fed cronies will ensure that Sarawak remains poor….as long as they become rich……remember Brooke….especially James and Charles…..Sarawakians should rise and get rid of Taib the puppet first….his Marcosian tendencies are so glaring….with him there…there will be more Twin towers, Putrajayas, etc in KL ….courtesy of the poor people of Sarawak….
My iban friend mentioned to me that the Dayaks are marginalised because they are ‘stupid’ They supported blindly whoever their respective heads of community is supporting and money (small amount) can buy their votes. Thats why CM position was taken away from the Dayaks
pull out is another story…
what make us so sure that we can stand by our own. we cant even group dayak intellectual in our hand.
The risk is mountain big. Yes, it is possible to break it out. but how many years? the cost is too big.
as i mention before, i am not oppose the idea. but be more realistic.
After sarawak independent, we in miri / bintulu will ask for separation, because our money is taken by “federal” in kuching.
and why not, those who free sarawak teach us this lesson. if not satisfied, ask for seperation.
easy as that..
Consider Sarawak has got its independence, I personally believe that Peninsular Malaysians will have hard time assuming Uban and his cronies no longer rule.
1. We’ll cancel off Petronas’ reign in Sarawak and appoint Sarawak company to rule our resource.
2. Instead of supplying Bakun electricity to Peninsular, we’ll export our power to them.
3. Our food program to crop rice will make us an rice exporter to Peninsular.
4. We’ll build our own roads with the budget in our control. At least all the lies given by Federal government can end here.
5. We’ll have our own airline by upgrading Hornbill Skyways to Hornbill Airways. At least we don give direct chance to MAS to earn our people’s money.
6. We’ll going to develop many sectors using Sarawakians ways not the federal ways. We’ll going to have many Sarawakian Expats coming back from Peninsular and overseas to develop this new country.
These are some of the ultimate goals that Sarawakians hope for, after spending disappointing moments in Malaysia.
I think UMNO and racist Melayu love people like Sagaraptor because this is how Sarawak is been screwed since 1971. The core is being shifter from one that central on Malaysia for all to Malaysia for UMNO & Muslim.
I think Sagaraptor is too comfortable with the Tun Dr.M 22 years of Dayak cleansing and is too happy to be part of an Islamic state, welcome to the world of Ketuanan Melayu.
Independent? NOt even self reliance, self reliable? If kampong Dayak can unite , ok la. But noway Dayak can be a leader until end of days.
Firt of all congratulations to you Dr John for creating your Dayakbaru blog which provide an avenue to speak up and information for readers. Blogging is getting more and more popular now and the statements in the blogs penetrate better than those in the forums.
The subject of this article is indeed couregeous – “berani”: which directly challenges fundamental weaknesesses of BN, both state and federal government. It really does not matter where we start be it from a 33 years old chap from PJ or be it our local ADUN or be it the white termite himself, the bottom line is the same. Nothing people say or do could change the fact that Sarawak has been unfairly treated since independent.
How did it happen? Perhaps it also necessary to look at our own people and ask ourselves why have we allowed this to happen.
As for current Dayak YBs they should know how, what, when and why all these had happened. Why the things you said up there had happened? I believe they are well informed although some of them may be entrenched into smaller scope of things.
It is necessary that they don’t get carried away too far and remember their roots.
The facts is 50% of their problems is about future re-nomination to stand in election. The other 50% is to ensure the rakyat are continously with them to support the BN policies. For the YBs, its personnel survival first. Relocating Petronas Twin Towers to Bintulu or cancell the Bakun subsea cable project are very far away from their menus.
The thing is to fight these Dayaks YBs, ADUN/MPs is such a waste, I mean we are fighting our own relatives, our friends, etc. I can’t imagine I go and fight YB Alex or YB Aaron or YB Salang. It would be better if we continue to advise them, our friends such that they don’t get entrenched and blindly worship unfair and mean leaders.
Apai Enai…
When people bully us, we should look at ourself first. not pointing to other people. If we keep on pointing to that and that, we will never looking at ourself.
We dayak do not have any “core values”. We love to fight. Condemn each other. If my idea is wrong, please correct it. That is the point of these argument. Not knocking me to “kneel” to you.
I have no problem with Islamic stuff or christian or any religion. I believe we can living in harmony as long we not touching other people nose.
Tackle the issue. Not the person.

I have to agree to some of your your point above, especially the bully analogy. but I must disagree with “We dayak do not have any “core values”. We love to fight. Condemn each other.”
As far as I know, we dayak DO have core value. If you see throughout the history of Sarawak, the Dayak have always been opinionated (which is what you see as “condemn each other” and “love to fight”.
The Ibans is an egalitarian society with no fixed leadership (as far as i ksee, tuai rumah main fuction is as a judge and a custom keeper). Add to that our bravery to fight for what we believe for (rentap certainly fight for what he believe, that is the headhunting tradition)
And don’t forget, the dayak is also usually loyal to his promises. If not, the effort of the Rajah in holding the Bebaik Bebunoh Babi (sorry if wrong word/spelling) would be futile. In fact, I sincerely believe that we all still hold to that promise to HH The Rajah (withe the exception of war) to live in harmony with each other.
The thing is, can we say the same thing of our leader? Do they fight for what they believe, for the people? Are they brave enough to face the Federal Goverment if they think that we’ve been wrong? do they hold fast for to their promise to the people, the sovereignty of our state?
TL;DR Sarawak for Sarawakian
are we ready? how long it take before we can make the first move?

I also hope sarawak can be independent. Sarawak got no benefit staying in malaysia.. we got nothing.
Please someone make a move, where is our rich natural resources go to? Sarawak will be more better to become independent.. From history, its lucky Singapore are separate from Malaysia.. Now they living in highly educated life.

My personal view ,if SABAH SARAWAK united i can sure that SABAH SARAWAK can be a great nation.A nation with hope for our next generation.

being the citizen of SABAH SARAWAK.On the other hand we can attract more foreign talent come into
SABAH SARAWAK.
Last but not lease,to make this dream come true.we must bring out a agenda or issued.A issued that all chinese’s and non-muslim bumi faces the same problem or issued. We need all MALAYSIAN Chinese’s and non-muslim bumi to support this agenda.
Thanks regards.

pulau borneo only for DAYAK….!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
memerdekakan sarawak ??? mudah namun adakah kita telah bersedia. Political ?, knowledgement??,prinsipal??,skills.
itulah masalahnya … ukai sebab ka agama islam nyadi agama rasmi, laban ka prinsip dlm agama nya nang sigi manah ke semua bangsa
Borneo independant country???.. Gud Idea. But at first should all the Dayaks in sarawak unite and change their mind /perception bout their own. Coz some or more of us dayaks are still with this bad attitude ” sik hal lah, janji senang” and ” peduli apa!!!”… Never think of those who really need help. Once gain power, always thought that the world are already theirs and never think of other. short thinking. If imposibble always think imposibble, never think that the imposibble cant become posibble. In 100%, Only 35-40% did. That what makes us weak. Where’s the slogan “Agi idup Adi ngelaban????”.. Burried Already ha… khe’lian, Ko org cina. so, those who think it’s imposibble will create the failure.. need overhaul lah.. Hopefully the day would come for us not only the dayaks but the sarawakian even sabahan etc.( Borneos ) to be in our own independant land. OUT OF MALAYSIA.
SEMANGAT!!!!! CHIA YOW!!!!!
I humbly salute the writer of this article.which can gif impact to the hungry ghost, wake up now..and vote for yr right..not for the money but for us all .Keep it up Dr Brian Anthony
Congratulations Dr. JBA,
Well said!! What more could I say, all have been penned down really well.
In this article, you have clearly and concisely demonstrate why Sarawak should pull out from Malaysia.
But, it still lacks the most important elements. That important element is, how exactly is that dream could be realized. I suggest you continue part 2 demonstrating how it should be done.
Thank you.
Kong Hee Fatt Choy.
Dear Sarawakian,
It is very true what is stated
above. I am very happy now that we as a
sarawakian realised that we should pull out of
MALAYSIA BUT one alone cannot do it for sure So
im hoping all sarawakian can stand up for sake of
sarawak.BUT HOW?WHAT’s the step?
Dr Brian Anthony,please advise.
Dr,
I believe if all Sarawakian want Sarawak to become independant. Stand up. We are ready for our own Father of Independant.
Salute.
My fellow dayak brother and sister,I think it”s time to take back what is belong to us,do respect the ideology of ‘sarawak independent”,our society were mostly naive yet there are praticing term of”cakap tidak serupa bikin’.when do the promise day will come?,waiting for C.M.S or chief mafia sarawak clear all the resourced of our land?,well we had to act now!Don’t cakap ajak!.if we look back to our father or grandfather experience when they talking about the late colonial goverment ruler many of them give a good comment to the late ruler of sarawak, yet all races giving thumbs up to the late ruler. yes by that time, the term is we still not yet independent from invader,my question is,” who will be the president of ‘sarawak republic”,what races getting all the credit?.are sarawak will blended into a good nation? Are we dayak people will prevailed to the so called “Sarawak republic?,together we all don’t want to be ‘CUBA” of south east asia.
greetings all. i from west borneo. nowadays what happen in indon really makes me sad. we all one nation i hope that u all in sarawak can help us as we are brother. islam has a mission to us dayak-indon, they convert all men and women to muslim and they abandon dayak identity. so many converter nowadays, and many young dayak life in urban area cannot speak dayak anymore, me for example cause when u speak dayak, other ethnic,(java, malay, maduranese) they will shout at u and say “use bahasa you moron”. they become arrogant and so annoying. makes me flame up, they acting like they are owner of borneo island.
no they not my brother, we dayak own this island, stop this colonialist fuckin race for makes us stupid, losing our identity,
nowadays governor in pontianak is dayak, i feel happy for that, but many rumor said, there is a conspiracy to kill him, cause he is the only one who dayak would vote, cause he is so brave. he always think for dayak development first.
what would happen to dayak if he died, we in indon would be in dark era again.
u should come and see the reality in indon, indon only care about his muslim people, give them home, land, money. and we native, nothing we can get. THIS IS OUR LAND.. WE SHOULD UNITED….
take our land back……….educated all dayak….
build borneo with our own sweat……
only fool believe that melayu would care about us.. idiotic-stupid-faggot-human being who believe they will educated and develop dayak…
united dayak……
dayak can only trust dayak.
dayak cannot rely melayu on their development.
be smart……. think with your brain.
melayu is “japanese imperial army” …
japanese always said we give u education, but real is backward, stupidity.
malayu always think dayak is low life, uneducated, jungle man,…….. HOW can U RELY your next generation on this mongrels.
fight back…….. bersatu all dayak…….. we must united.
we are being seperated like north and south korea.
It would be appropriate if I say we form ‘Negara Borneo’. We need tons of money to make this dream come through. Once the money is there, strategic political planning need to be in place.
We might need to form a ‘football team’ in Kalimantan, Sarawak and Sabah. Once our ‘football team’ can champion and spread the propaganda, we will get the support from the people. At that point in time Jakarta and Kuala Lumpur cannot do much.
Things to ponder before we can dream:
1. The financier for the movement. Any rich dayak out there?
2. The football team and strategic political plan.
3. Formation of organize government and the legislation.
We have 12 million dayak on Borneo Island. Being the majority we will be the king and we play with ‘Ketuanan Dayak’. Similar to UMNO as history repeat itself. Those in favourable position in politics will take care of their hot seat and to fish for votes we don’t pull out kris anymore but ‘parang ilang’. Aku ka ngayau…just to gain support and play wayang.
Borneo is rich with natural resources and I can foresee that Borneo in no time will transform into a develop nation provided that the ‘King’ is not corrupted.
If you can do that ‘Tak akan hilang Dayak di dunia’. Sweet dream.
Aku ka nyadi presiden pertama Negara Borneo. Nadai jakuk nyak.
Sayau meh kitai Dayak Iban
Nadai meh orang sinu ka kitai, enti kitai enda sinu ka diri empu.Orang bansa bukai enda ulih nulong kitai, enti kitai enda nulong diri empu.Jabu enggau James Masing nyangka enda ulih nyangkat ka kitai, seduai iya udah balat menyati bansa diri. Seduai tau ngemadu ka kediri, patut malu laban lama seduai udah nyadi ke pengari kitai tang bala kitai agi jauh amat tinggal ari bansa bukai.Seduai ukai orang tau ngaku diri ketuai tauka penagari bansa kitai. Beri meh peluang ngagai bala bukai…seduai iya endang ukai ngari ka kitai…tang ngisi kandut diri empu.
Seduai nya meh ke sema aku baka raban aki kitai Linggir Mali lebu ke ngering ka perintah Brooke ngelaban sida Rentap ba bukit Sadok. Seduai iya ngering ka “Pak Uban” ngerumpak kitai Dayak Iban.
Betukar Meh Kitai(Wing Of Change)
Batang Ai….besai meh pengarap aku ka bala Dayak Iban Batang Ai.Kena meh undi kitai kena mandang ka kitai Dayak Iban ukai bansa ti mudah di kemeli ka bansa bukai.
Undi kita meh ti tau mai bangsa kitai berubah…udah lama ga kitai udah enggau sida “Pak Uban”..lalu ga kita agi tinggal ari bansa bukai tambah mega kitai lalu ga enda tampak di peda orang.
Beri meh pengarap kita ngagai sida PKR ke diatu..iya enti nya agi ga sebaka, baru ngiga pengarap ke bukai.
Maioh amat reta pesaka menoa kitai udah kena rumpak..aku arap ka enda agi majak dirompak bala raban-kaban sida “Pak Uban”.
Terima Kasih.
Pulling out of Malaysia is near impossible for Sarawak, BUT changing the government from the current highly corrupted discriminating government is possible. Change the government and change the policies.
Instead of a mere 5% oil royalty we demand more to the new gov’t, maybe 30%, rule the state based on the 18 point agreement signed wiyh Malayan leaders prior to the formation of Malaysia, stick and adhere to the Federal constituitions that favour Sarawak etc. To me these are more achieveable than pulling out from the federation.
Any supporter???
How nice if the whole of Borneo Island is ONE nation!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
DON’T TALK JUST DO IT…
JUST DO IT…
JUST DO IT…
JUST DO IT…
Cheers

Sarawak pull out from malaysia?
I HAS THINKING OF THIS STATEMENT WHEN I WAS AT PRIMARY 3..18 YEARS AGO..
THAT TIME MY SEJARAH TEACHER CIKGU MINGGU HAS SAID THIS= INGAT MURID MURID, KITA (SARAWAK) TIDAK PERNAH MERDEKA. KITA HANYA MENUMPANG DALAM MALAYSIA. KITA MASIH DI JAJAH…
DAN KITA TIDAK PERNAH MERDEKA SELAGI BERNAUNG DI BAWAH MALAYSIA.
THAT TIME…I ASK THAT TEACHER, “CIKGU, KENAPA PULA SARAWAK TAK MEMERINTAH SENDIRI?”
HAHAHA…MY TEACHER SMILE, HE SAID “THAT BECAUSE DAYAK PEOPLE ARE NOT UNITED”
START FROM THAT DAY, I HAVE A DREAM….
” I WANT TO SEE SARAWAK GOVERN ITSELF BEFORE I DIE”
I HATE TO CELEBARATE HARI KEMERDEKAAN ON 31 OGOS, THAT BECAUSE I KNOW MY INDEPENDENT DAY IS ON 16 SEPTEMBER…..
MY FELLOW DAYAK…..
IF SOMEONE ASK ME MY FAVOR TO DO THIS POINT ( SARAWAK MERDEKA)
I WOULD HAPPILY GIVE EVERYTHING, EVEN ALSO GIVE MY LIFE!!!!!
LIFE IS NOTHING WITHOUT DREAM….AND DREAM IS NOTHING WITHOUT DOING SOMETHING…
UNTIL NOW, I DOING NOTHING ABOUT MY DREAM…
I M STILL HERE, LIVE AT SEMENANJUNG AND FACE THE REALITY THAT ME, MY LAND, MY RACE, MY RELIGION,AND MY SARAWAK ARE ALWAYS DI JAJAH 4EVER AND EVER….HUHUHU SO SAD TO THINK ABOUT IT.
BYETHEWAY,
THANK U FOR THE IDEA OF PULL OUT FROM MALAYSIA
…AT LEAST NOT ME ONLY THINK ABOUT IT.
HOPE TOMOROW NO ” ISA ” COME TO MY HOUSE AND TAKE MY TO NEW HOME AT ” KEMUNTING “
Papong Engkilu SAID,

NOTHING IS IMPOSSIBLE TO DO….
EXCERLY THERE ARE VERY EASY TO PULL OUT FROM MALAYSIA…
1. MAKE A REFERENDUM VOTE AMONG SARAWAK PEOPLE ON SELF GOVERNMENT AND SEND IT TO QUEEN ELIZABETH AT BRITAIN…BECAUSE SHE IS SARAWAK PEOPLE REAL “KING”…
2. IF OVER 50% VOTE WANT TO INDEPENDENT, THEN SEMENANJUNG CANNOT STOP US…WHY I SAY THAT, IT IS BECAUSE SARAWAK ARE FAR FROM SEMENANJUNG…WE DN HAVE BOUNDARY WITH THEM… SCARED FOR WHAT?
3. LAST EFFORT….IS BACK TO THE ORIGIN,MASUK BALIK HUTAN AND ……….(ENDA ULIH SEBUT,LU FIKIR KLA SENDIRI) TAPI BERJAYA CARA TU, PEDA KITAI BA ACEH>>>BULIH KUASA AUTONOMY PAMA MEH CAK…HEHEHE
Sarawak pull out of Malaysia- This statement is always in my mind. Since someone mentioned this statement again this remains me of what my former teacher had told me when I was in primary school twenty years ago. He said, ” make sure when you grow up and become someone and has the capablity, you must initiate to your people to pull out Sarawak from Malaysia”. And now, this is the right time. I am making the call to all Sarawkians to pull out from Malaysia and become “Sarawak Borneo”. As you can see and feel we are being cheated by the Peninsula in term of revenues from oil, timber, rubber, pepper, cocoa and natural gas. Next time when all these commodities are scared they will say. now you better rule your own state and gain independence. It is late by the time and now I beg all Sarawakians to fight for it.
Thank You for Malaysia because of taking care of Sarawak since last 48 years. It’s time for sarawak to stand with her own feet just like British era. When Tanah Melayu able to stand alone they unlease the tanah Melayu. Now the Tanah Melayu should do the same to Sarawak Land for Sarawak people. Peace. Malaysia lose nothing. Malaysia already gain a lot from sarawak.
Out of M’sia ulih , tang enti Dayaks BERANI ngena REFORMASI . Baka zaman Rentap suba. Kadang policies cannot change enggau jalai ka manah. Laban setegal Dayaks kelalu manah lalu nelap kitai di kemeli lalu di buli org ti baka Dynasty Taib !
The Idea is noble and will be fully supported by all races in SARAWAK !!
HURRAY SARAWAKIANs!!!
Dr. John,
I really agreed with this opinion, that’s the fact. Send this message to all of our sarawakian not only dayak but all races I believe they will agree with this beautiful idea. Call all dayak interlactuals to meet and discuss.
The sooner the better…..
I totally support your points! Sarawak for Sarawakians! Lets make it happen, an independent Sarawak!
Enti kitai ka out of M’sia. Kitai mesti mengguling ka Taib dulu enggau cara Reformasi ! Lalu influence bala sadudu enggau polis dulu. Enda mustahil !
being an independent country? why not? there’s always a chance for the first move. that’s a dream of every normal Sarawakian. But the real big question here is how many people dare to make that first move?
The free Sarawak can’t be achieved from any existing political parties (especially those parties from Malaya itself). That freedom can be achieve only by reformation and revolution… and it’s not easy because we can’t get anything for free. Revolution needs sacrifices – money, friends, families, and even lives. Malaya govt wont let us out just like that because we are their ‘lubuk emas’. Just like ‘Bapak Ayam’ can’t freed his ‘Anak Ayam’ because they are his ‘periuk nasi’. there is no other parable better describes our situation because we are just like that. We don’t want to live like this but we still support the wrong thing in order to earn for living – get a little sum of money from YBs during election by giving your ID card. so what? we can get better than that without selling our land.
If we can’t kill the corrupted politician, why don’t just throw our shoes to him while he speak in the public…that will be good enough.
I love Sarawak and can’t wait to see the independent Sarawak. Why must join M’sia? They don’t even know the difference between Sarawakian and Sabahan but we can easily detect whether they are from Kelantan, Terengganu, Selangor KL or whatsoever…and they still think that we still live in a treehouse although we never did… It’s not worth being a slave to narrow-minded people….
Congratulations Dr Brian on the opening of this website..i came across this by accident actually! =)
what you say is true..Sarawak has ALL the riches be it resources, cultures, foods, etc and we are the ones who should be living well here! but it’s sad because by being with malaysia we had to give MOST of the riches to certain state, if not certain ppl/cronies..it is simple, if federal has taken so much from us, then they should be very thankful and respect us back by developing sarawak esp the well being of rural folks..i think it is very clear here that we (sarawakian) are not being treated fairly n justly except for certain cronies/ppl..it is sad looking at how money can shape human character..they have lost the very basic of feelings that unite people..
I like the idea of uniting Sarawak-Sabah..Gosh imagine the RICHES that we have ; RESOURCES, CULTURES, LAND FOR PLANTATION (CULTIVATION AND THEREFORE EXPORT), SEA (PORTS & FISHES), OUR(SABAH&SARAWAK) UNIQUE HERITAGE are also very marketable (TOURISM)..and i agree that english is our medium apart from preserving our own languange because only by english we could converse and communicate well among us and foreigners which in turn will ease international business talks and this my friends is a long term REAL DEVELOPMENT for SABAH-SARAWAK..regarding education, well we can start from 0 and slowly develope in rural areas..for higher education, we have CURTIN, LIM KOK WING n other renowned U! I think even though we would be a lil bit slow in development compared to our already rich neighbour, but it definitely will drive towards a much much much richer sabah-sarawak nation in the future..LAND AREA, SEA AREA, and u name it..we have everything..btw i’m not a dayak iban but i love your spirit and more in love with sarawak..peace~ =)
Dear All,
Don’t just talk and let do it.. Find the best method how to gather all DAYAK people around the world. Find the exactly how many DAYAK work at Peninsula, Singapore, US, Europe and other Asian countries and ask them contribute the idea how we can pull out from Malaysia. Please give the realistic idea that we can implemented it together.
Although I not sure whether we can get supported from Dayak people who work at Peninsula because some of them are totally tranformed to Malay which they did not called themselves as Dayak anymore. Especially those work as soldier and police which some of them already converted to Malay. I didn’t blame them converted to Islamic but they way the talked and their acting like Malay people really make me wants to vomit blood..
Now ..stop talking about another thing…please give suggestion how to do it. If Anuar (KEADILAN CHAIRMAN) dare to send “letter” to “WHITE HOUSE”, why not we do the same thing? SEND A LETTER TO BRITAIN QUEEN ELIZABETH….that the real KING for old generation like my great grand parent believe most.
Any idea? Pls suggest.
We should gather together, I believe Sarawak much more better if not joint Malaysia at 1963, a shame dicission.
Actually, there is no too much facility in Sarawak same west Island with attention to this Sarawak is rich area, So, what is the worth of being with or not being? It need professional research to do about. and long way to go, you think Sarawakians are ready to go?and is it correct way to do? you are the one who choose your future, then make up your mind.
Independent jak la…or Dayak harus bersatu..
Kayu balak dah habis tunggu another 100 tahun lagi. So buang masa aje.Beri makan anak bini, tenguk tv,sembahyang, main toto ke,sabung ayam, happy hours, pergi party, pergi jogging, ngiga jani, pancing ikan, tanam sayur, jumpa kawan2 adalah lebih bagus dari memikir nak keluarkan sarawak dari malaysia.
All Dayaks must sacrifice first by voting opposition, whoever, as long as not BN ( controlled by Malays- UMNO). This first step if achieved will bring KL attention to sarawak, then we can be heard louder- and we can demand. If we continue to be a ‘fixed account for BN’, Masing, jabu and Mawan are safe and nothing shall happen.

from semenanjung…
tuntutlah kemerdekaan sekarang…
anak malaysia: masih cakap tentang Ketuanan Melayu?
Rosaklah Malaysia jikalau dibuat begitu.
Kepada LANUN MELAYU , from semenanjung…
Kepala OTAK engkau, sejak bila MALAYA berhempas pulas menyelamat kan SARAWAK???????????
KAMI ANAK SARAWAK/DAYAK/IBAN yang matian matian mempertahankan TANAH MALAYA KAMU TU…..dari komunis……….mei 13….PAHAM…..kepala OTAK kamu tak erti…
SEJARAH yang kamu belajar tu….kat sekolah…kat university tu…..SONGSANG….TERBALIK……PAHAM!!!!!!!!
KALAU kamu rajin, baca betullllllll sejarah SARAWAK…..SEJARAH MALAYSIA…..KEPALA OTAK KAMU…
Kepala otak kamu…..kalau kamu bijak sangat…dimana LNG COMPLEX terbesar di MALAYSIA?????
KEPALA OTAK kamu….., kalau kamu bijak sangat….berapa ORANG MELAYU MALAYA MENDAPAT PINGAT “GEORGE CROSS”, “VICTORIA CROSS” ?????
KEPALA OTAK kamu……kamu menyuruh ANAK SARAWAK MENUNTUT KEMERDEKAAN?????????????….GOD WILLING….very soon……!!!!!!!!
To AM,
It is rather sensitive to talk about pullinhg out of Malaysia. But I have a feeling that one day, perhaps not during my lifetime, Sarawak will eventually be coming out from Malaysia. At the moment, it is still a probability for this to happen.
We have a feeling also that more Ibans lost their life in P. Malaysia than the Malays in Sarawak. The late Jugam Anak Ungkok who died in kedah in 1953 is one perfect example. Till this very day this Iban trooper has not had a proper burial ground. This is quite an embarassment ot the Ministry of Defence. And they are others as well.
Cheers…
Tapi kita kenak ingat!!!!
Pastikan kuasa2 besar x kira politik atau ekonomi kita, mestilah berpengaruh besar diperingkat antarabangsa. Supaya kita x risau menjadi jajahan selepas kita keluar.
Pasal parti politik yang racist racism tolong la jangan buat… jangan ikut apa yang peninsular buat… (parti politik perkauman)
yes kita patut start movement tok dah lama kita menghidupkan orang lain? jalan raya di kuching gik x pernah bagus… kerajaan negeri xda duit setakat RM 1 billion setahun ne cukup! 1km jalan bukan RM1 juta pun!
To anak malaysia,
Get your facts right, Malaysia is a union of Malaya, Sabah, Sarawak not in any particular order. What this means is all sections are treated as equals. Independence of Malaya has nothing to do with with helping Sarawak, Sabah gaining independence. Our independence came through Malaysia, not Malaya.
You say you have been fighting for us? What is the proof? Its actually a reverse role, oil income for example, Sarawak reserves has been long explored before a drop of oil was ever produced from the Malay Basin. So during those years when Sarawak was sole producer how much of has our reserves have been used to develop your side of the country while we here were left out trapped in poverty as if we never accounted for the population?
So don’t come barging through the door with ignorant rants and fallacious stories of you doing something or anything for us.
For us Sarawakians, born we are as proud natives, natives true to our motherland. We have been idle for too long, now we are even greater in numbers because we unlike some people can stay hand in hand with other Sarawakians so lets become one majority. Take back what is ours.
Ka kitai urg menua Sarawak, kitai ada nyadi bansa ke berani, bansa ti sayau ka menua kitai. Lamak udah kitai ngelak ajak utai tu jadi. Nyak meh alai kitai seraup sama ngau bansa Sarawak bukai ngambik pulai utai ka di empu kitai ari suba’.
Itau nih anak tana’ Sarawak, tinganak tau bang lun luk metueh, ame’ ku lun luk mawa kuan tana’ inih. Pelipas tek yo itau nih na megio, nyier mek ideh abai neh nemeno ret netau. Jadi’ nekinih dih tau tuped, peruyung dengan anak Sarawak luk kula’ dih, ngalap lemubed luk kuan itau dih.
Sarawak Pride.
Should Sarawak pull out of Malaysia?
hahaha.. this is bonus question!!!!
We shouldnt have joined at the first place!!!!
Temenggong Jugah will be sad to see our lovely Sarawak Today
we didnt join..we Formed MALAYSIA but..what happen now!!!!!!
agree , need to pull out from malaysia…money sucker.
Go ask the elders (those in 60 or 70 years old and has been monitoring political situation in Sarawak in 1960s), you may find a surprising fact that majority of Sarawakians did not vote to join in with Malaysia in 1963. The fact that Pakatan Rakyat won the election that would eventually result in the independence of Sarawak did not materialised (The victory caused those Pakatan Rakyat leaders and loyal supporters to be unlawfully prosecuted…). Next … Sarawak joined the formation of Malaysia. Since then, Pakatan Rakyat never been like what it was before 1963… It is important to dig out this untold history (definitely you won’t find them in official record) from the elders. Many youngsters nowadays have absolutely no idea how Sarawak joined in the formation of Malaysia. I didn’t realise this until I learned from “old people”. By the way, I’m a Kuching-born and currently studying abroad. I’d love to have an independent North Borneo nation (together with Sabah) and free this land from the current colonisation.
Amat mayuh enda Setuju begulai enggau Malaya begaga ka Malaysia, tang Maya udah Merdeka,Rayat Sarawak di tipu sida Menteri Barisan Nasional(beraguk bebulu Manuk) ti keleput, takut, lungau, mapap dan sewaktu Saloi dengannya Ngemeli ka Rayat/diri empu.Sukung ari Rayat Sarawak Meri kuasa 2/3 Agai Parti UMNO Meri sida Peluang Ngerakal kitai/betapat inat begaga Polisi Melayu.Bansa Melayu pan bedau Senang/Nyamai ari Polisi Ketuanan Melayu,NEP,30 Ekuiti, etc Ketegal UMNOPUTRA.
In the democracy country, the freedom of speeches is among the element. So, even though I am from Semenanjung, I accepts any opinion or statement. Just like a phrases sound, “The truth is bitter”. In any country in the world, there will always exist a group who tried to free some territory.
For example, Thailand (Southern Thai), Philippines (Mindanao), Indonesia (Acheh and Irian Jaya), China (Tibet) and etc. Even USA is not an exception (Alaska). So, I can understand if there are this kind of thinking of any territory in Malaysia who wants an Independence.
In the history, Sarawak and Sabah together with Singapore and Federation of Malaya formed the new Federation of Malaysia. So, Singapore has been kicked out, so I can say that if either one of Sarawak and Sabah been kicked out, there are no more Malaysia anymore. It will change back the way it was, Tanah Melayu, Sarawak, Sabah, Singapore and Brunei.
So, what is the real issue for this group who wants independence? Usually because of differences between the territory and the central government, ethnic group, culture, language and etc. It is all about differences. Not to mention, fraud and corruption.
So, lets think for a while.. we have a choice. Want to be divided and we will divided forever, want to be united and we will united forever. Nevertheless, there is a challenge ahead. Like the Federation of Malaysia. Differences of mindset occur between the Malaysian Peninsular and the Malaysian Borneo.
Each of us love our own state, but why there are many of us who hated Malaysia? colonization?
If we looking back, this is the first time we see a Malaysian from Malaysian Borneo holding the position of Speaker and Deputy Speaker in the Malaysian Parliament. Probably, someday… we will see the first Malaysian Prime Minister from Sabah and Sarawak.
For me, I can see that the problem here is the government who govern the Federation. So, if we wanted to change the system, just change the government and the new policy will be implemented. As simple as that. If the current government is fraud.. Sabah and Sarawak separate from the Federation.. Peninsular will be molested by this kind of government forever. Borneo can save peninsular from this kind of bad government.
I have read all the comment above, I can say that not all of Peninsular cannot differentiate between Sarawakian and Sabahan. I can. There exist a slightly differences between this two states citizens. Like, the spoken language.
And lastly..
“We must solve the problem. Do not search for problem or run away from it.”
assalamualaikum..?
BN bagi janji manis tapi cakap tunggu…tunggu..DAYAKBERSATU KEARAH MENUNTUT HAK DAYAK…1DAYAK, 1SARAWAK, 1BORNEO…KE ARAH BORNEO MERDEKA…HIDUP DAYAK….HIDUP DAYAK…MAY GOD BLESS DAYAK…
CUKUP SAMPAI DISINI SAYANG [MAlek Riduan},,,nyanyi dolok kita tok melayusarawak!
…………………………………………….
AUK lah!!!!Semangat kamek Dayak jua berkobar-kobar nak tukar pemerintah JIN & JEMBALANG,,PIRATES OF BORNEO,,,BALA NYUMBOH, RAJAH BABOON…,,,,Pilihan Raya kelak jangan conteng DACING Auuuk!! Senang kira bah!!!
yea,we should pull out of Malaysia

Assalamualaikum, My Brother in Faith,
As god, created the four biggest religion in this world, He never add the big Four of Rimbunan Hijau, KTS, Samling or Shin Yang for human to worshiped and served their purpose for wealth of Time.
In our local walk of Time, as we journey through life, we have been serving the plights of the rich. Why are human like Dr. Patau Rubis, a professional doctor cant set up his local Francised clinic all over Sarawak? No he cant, caused we need Datuk Seri Najib to announced the one clinic for Malaysia.Would this be right?
If reason is compulsory in initiating any act in Islam, then Dr. Patau may have been loss of ideas as politics have engulf him I guess.I am sorry for saying it,As not locally born, I was taught of many Time managing system.Since the age of 5 , various techniques were taught to me and at times I just have to learned from my fall.
In Bidayuh race, I could only see tears after DBNA building was demolished and it have indeed demolished my marriage as well.I love Bidayuj and have a lot of Bidatuh friends. To me, human are at times have really forgotten their purpose in life as they tend to stir the sensitivity feelings of other race as if Religion is only for them,This includes Moslem that are unethical and have low moral values. My statement is dedicated to my Bidayuh friends at St. Joseph, Batu Lintang School, Combined Council school, ITMCS and OUM Sarawak.I do felt that our Urban house are predated.DBNA to me stands for DNA(Human cloning that should not be allowed).B for Bersama bermasa ————-Tetapi menjadi Pemangsa kita jua akhirnya.(For William Richardson, Nelson Noel Martin , Paren Tajeng, and the late Jipen Noeh of ITM.)
Then I am happy as I have said it and not just share the good times with Bidayuh of Sarawak but at your bad time as well.Who would want their URBAN equity of words and level of wealth be demoralised and placed away from where ABDUL AZIZ BIN HAJI ALI used to walk.
However, god is great and kind to all religion .Not just Islam. To me Christian have their heaven in Islam.I am not saying this just for the sake of saying but all religion are from God and the good and ethical are words in all religion. Not just Islam.
I wish the Bidayuh community all the best in equity, wealth of words and many more that the Malay Rulers and Governors have promised the ethical Malaysian, regardless of race , religion, values and belief.Sentiasa bermasa…..ABDUL AZIZ BIN HAJI ALI. A.CMI(UK).A.MIM,A.SIM.
PS>YOU ought to be a Tan Sri , accorded to all who walks for peace and harmony of Time in Sarawak,Malaysia and the globe as well.

[...] Hari ini selesai menyiapkan tugasan dipejabat, sambil melepaskan penat, saya melayari internet. Saya singgah disatu laman web kepunyaan Dr John Brian Anthony; iaitu DayakBaru.com.

(INFO: DISINI) [...]
Tabik nudu suo bala madih. I am the new generation of BIDAYUH. i agree with the statement that have been voice out by Dr. John. Staying under Malaysia just like under colonize by Malay(UMNO). it is correct to say that we are currently independent under Malaysia but let see the development of our country. most of our sources like oil, timber, and electricity are the main things that keep the malaysia become the great country as today. Last time our grandparent are mostly uneducated and they only follow what people say its good for them and their community but now most of our new generation who have higher education have notice what had the government done to their community and they can compare to other country. How come we let other people to rule us what i mean to say is ” Sarawak is for Sarawakian”. Let’s take the moral story from Timur Timur country. this small country manage to get their independent from Indonesia so how come Sarawak can’t do it.i belief that all the dayaks in sarawak last time are famous with the worrior spirit like what Rentap say “Agi idup agi ngelaban” so show it.

Sarawak must independent from Malaysia/UMNO. UMNO is a cruel, violent, robbers, thieves, murderers of our people …
Sarawakian must know this problem. we must separate ourselves from the ??Malaysia. UMNO / BN is very cruel and devilish.
I strongly support the establishment of Sarawak as a rule their own country ….
Sarawak is a new nation free from the political grip of UMNO / BN.
destroy UMNO / BN
to anak malaysia.
kepala otak datuk nenek ko anak malaysia. ko cakap sembarangan saja. datang sitok ko mun ko berani kelak aku bagi ko rasa apa itu oren. kamu orang laut malaya ingat kamu tu siapa? kamu itu asal dari Bugis, Jawa, jangan lupa asal datuk nenek kamu sendiri. kalau jadi askar kamu orang tu pengecut, ingat nak jadi bos saja duduk kat opis tapi kepala otak kosong bodah macam lembu yang mau mampus. kalau tak pasal curi duit dari Borneo twin tower tu tak wujud, menara KL (Kerbau & Lembu) tu memang tak wujud, apa lagi bangunan putra jaya tu jangan mimpi nak buat. ne pasal rompak duit kekayaan minyak dari negeri sabah dan sarawak lah ne…
BODOH umno
MAMPUS umno
sekarang tunggu General Election 13 umno memang berkecai tumbang sekali dengan twin tower. mampus kumpulan umno perompak dan pembunuh bangsa. umno pembunuh bangsa
Tabi kaban belayan, To pull out is impossible unless the Big nation like USA, IK, Australia assist us.Refer to the dari Semenanjong above said that we should thanks the Malays because save from British rule… Do you think we Dayak stupid.??? The Malays-Muslims are spoon fed. Sarawak telah lama aman damai semua kaum makan semeja sebelum orang Semenanjong membawa “RACIAL PREJUDICE” The best for us to unite as before. Hidup Sarawak …
Kebangkitan semula….awakening!!
ARAM BERUBAHLAH!
ME.
Quite an interesting debate if this were to be held “live” on the national network I believe? If we go to the ground to ask for their opinion on this matter, I am sure many would say they go for the motion: that is to quit altogether. The younger generations are already talking about it eversince I can remember. They see the unfairness surrounding them. Just that we have some problems with the older generations.
I totally support the withdrawal of Sarawak from Malaysia. There is no sarawak in the view of west malaysian.
I totally support the proposal and deeply understood the reasons that led to this long overdued awakening.
Being already a multiracial, multireligious, & multicultured for many generations as far back to the White Rajahs, we Sarawakians DO understand better than the hastily coined and irrelevant and totally outdated concept of “1 Malaysia” here.
Being some of those Sarawakians who have been deeply engaged within Putrajaya’s dealings , I am alway ill at ease with their constant “semangat Assabiah” culture, always scheming, enroaching into other’s territory and eventually taking over control – even among themselves, yet always playing up rhetorics berjuang untuk “orang kita,” or “bumiputra.” We have seen that damage being done to Sabah’s and its people too. With rediculous no. of citizenship approvals for Muslims from Phillipines and Indonesia to reside in Sabah. Causing so much social havoc, and distress. Sacrificing the young innocent generation.
But then again, specifically many among these peninsular born and bred stallions cant even tolerate the concept of having Bidayuh “bumiputra”, iban “bumiputra”, or even… chinese “bumiputra”… what they know is a “malay” “bumiputra” and that malay is must only be “muslim”.
No need for debates about this, as Sarawakians who are multiracial, and have lived on both states definitely know how true this is, and how many of them have experienced being humiliated and disrespected by these “ketuanan Melayu” syndrome.
Yet they jumped with disgust when being rightfully labelled as having the “minda terkepung.” We have been incited, manipulated, and exploited throughout history. Through dubious, one sided, and fact twisted history books they instilled their “ketuanan” into our youngs. Through the Finas Controlled Media Policies, they indoctrinated our people with what culture and thought is acceptable to them and their needs. not ours. Through their cash voucher give outs, they win the hearts of countless, helpless, less educated rurals, less exposed and unmatured minds. Ironically winning lots of praise (not forgetting votes) for giving back only a small fraction of what borrowed from us many times over.
Our state governments, politicians and key businesses are kept at bay to kiss their “godfather’s ring” due to over-reliance on federal funded projects (because we are not given back enough cash to develop ourselves). Good administrators become helpless to defend locals who became beggars in their own land, loosing rightful inheritance to unscrupulous leaders who are strong cronies under the protection of their peninsular “tuan.” Yes, they may have big “muscles” but they are still breeding “small minds”. And the result of this is very dangerous, and can be life threatening to every decent human being anywhere. Not even many Sarawakian Malays are comfortable with the attitude of their peninsular counterparts.
Much more can be said… but what we need is more action being done… and fellow Sarawakians must all bear the weight together… bring back the glory and dignity that was rightfully ours!
It can be done, and it will be done… when Sarawakians Unite!
Yes pull out swk frm malaysia. Then ask swkian to teach the dayak children themselves. Oh not forgetting when u pull out frm malaysia, if u dun have enuff qualified teachers, u cant ask or import teachers frm semenanjung or it will be the shame on u. Or u r rich enuf just import frm UK n singapore to teach ur kids.
The fact is, u must reform and pull out taib mahmud frm the throne. He is rich enuff to escape frm malaysia after u reform. We need the real fact to talk abt here or we will put up the racial flames among other races which we do no want. Jatuhkan kerajaan Taib dan dayak mesti bersatu dan ubah sikap dan budaya arak judi yg merugikan dayak sendiri. Arak la musuh dayak sebenarnya.
I was an unqualified parent who didnt have the money to send my kids to kindy before… yet managed to get them to read and write (and count) in both BM & ENglish even before they get to enter primary 1…furthermore, they are already doing primary 3 language levels, primary 2 maths at home before starting primary 1… we also have many parents who “home”educate their child well before getting entrance to school. it is not a complete issue about not having enuf teachers (much less about qualified teachers), the churches mission have great education facilities (most importantly the environment that inspires learning), they already have foreign NGO supports as far back from Rajah’s time, the chinese community & associations have been contributing personally & fervently into chinese vernacular schools to ensure high quality education for their generations (not forgetting work & cultural attitude) via chinese schools,… apart from available government funded institutions. I myself studied in chung hwa, chung cheng, sam hap hin primary schools. lots of our bidayuh & iban & orang ulu & malay & melanau etc also go to chinese school too… we can integrate easily among all races in Sarawak for generations. So, I am not talking about something I dont know or experience. the increase in racial sentiments are fairly recent, even then, they are fanned by peninsular politicians & religious extremist.
Sarawakians are well aware (in fact too much) of the Longstanding, Outstanding, and Outdated Taib & his family or cronies issue, that is why we are fed up to talk about it. His time will come and will be due very soon. “Reform” IS also what we are doing and still ongoing right now among all Parties,NGOs,& society, but it is more critical now with respect to the time and political awakenings in the country. Pulling out from Malaysia means that Taib also losses his political shield, as this movement cannot be done (or even gain support) by his party PBB which depended on peninsular warlords. it will take local nationalists from all sarawakians ethnic group, businessman, & professionals to make this happen. when it happens, locals will have much more resources and autonomy to manage and care for their own people effectively.
the challenge is at the beginning, but then again, all beginning is challenging, doesnt mean it is a deemed failure. race is a none issue for us here in sarawak. that’s why we dont talk much about it. Only the attitude & how “tuans” and ketuanan melayu syndrome from “peninsular”, plus their distorted, parochial view of sarawak’s reality from peninsular, how they have exerted and misused sarawakian’s rights & resources. (by the way, if you still dont get it: Sarawakians mean: all ethnic groups – iban, chinese, malay, bidayuh, melanau, chinese, orang ulu etc. include all religion… so please, get yourself re-educated in the right mind… we have been living in multiracial & multireligious environment in harmony for centuries, our great grandparents have also stayed in homes, fought wars together, shared folk stories among all races, lived together, intermarried, traded food, worked and eat with all races… not much issue). by the way, anything taken not in moderation can be bad, even taking too much vitamins are toxic (hypervitaminosis, can also cause death), too much smoking kills, too much drugs -kills and cause great social problems(sex, abortions, broken family, gangsterism, thefts&snatch thiefs, murder etc.), too much sex can cook your brain, too much religious hipocrisy against “haram” eating & reading stuff, yet “berzina” here & there is already bad (see what happened when they talked about Yasmin Ahmads productions),too much improper censorship imposed by one religous group on the rights of other religion is not “proper”,too much “tongkat ali or whatever tongka’s & kacips” advertisement that promoted sex but still rampantly uncensored is unhealthy, too much “sireh” munching is cancerous… oh yes, too much comments can show how shallow you are in thoughts and life experience-ruins your integrity. alcoholism is a global issue, it is about drinking not in moderation, its about habit, its about addiction, not a “musuh dayak” (dont forget all other race also drink but you dont get much issue out of it, even many malay ministers in peninsular drink, but we dont make a fuss about it, its their prerogative). lack of proper education is a global issue, its about fund, facility, attitude, love, sacrifice, commitment, not alcoholism. unless you believe that school children readily gets addicted to alcoholism early. or every grown man or woman who to drinks (or smoke for that matter) will become confirmed drunkards and social rejects. or its abnormal to have too many races & religous practices living in harmony, or Bahasa “Malaysia” means ONLY bahasa Melayu, or when people talk about coming out from Malaysia means racist… then i feel sorry for you and your life my friend.
When you insist on talking about “real fact” it seems that:1)you obviously are ignorant or chose to be ignorant about other races and their beliefs, 2)your “real fact” shows that you are ignorant/chose to be ignorant/lack/dont have experience in dealing with federal ministers (formal & informally), 3) when you insisted that we risk putting up “racial flames” among “all races”, you have revealed about who you are and how narrow your world is, 4) when you mentioned about the need for dependant on import teachers (or quality teachers), obviously you must have forgotten how a very geographically remote “naif” & “daif” primary school (SK Ulu Lubai) became the talk of a nation & even went into Majalah3 when it won the award of being a high performance school (on par with urban elite school standard), by the way, they do have international links like Oxford university, Singapore University, & won international awards – connections made through THE INTERNET! its not completely about qualified teachers, its also about the teacher’s & fellow educator’s attitude! A good example is how the federal government reverted the PPSMI back to MBMMBI is a soft cover up for ineptitude… (i used to work with teachers of primary & secondary schools, i know)
well, enuf said, it must have been a bliss living in ignorance down there for you, but for rest of us here, we’d rather be breathing the fresh air of freedom, peace, love, harmony, wealth and justice for all Sarawakians!
(an article about how even poor communities can rise above all odds in supporting their children’s education performance):
Two remote rural schools became the envy of many when they beat off fierce competition to share top honours in a prestigious education competition.
THEY are tucked in the remote corners of Limbang and Lawas Districts — one among the clouds-shrouded highlands near the border with Indonesia and the other in the middle of the jungle with no access road.
Getting to either is not for the faint-hearted. Yet, despite the isolation and harsh terrain, both schools have defied the odds to emerge co-champions of the Commonwealth Education Good Practices Award 2009 contested by 53 nations.
Sekolah Kebangsaan (SK) Ba Kelalan in Long Langai in the Ba Kelalan highlands near the border with East Kalimantan, and SK Ulu Lubai in the upper reaches of Limbang River, are beacons of hope and inspirations to all remote rural schools.
An international panel of judges, mostly professors, unanimously named them co-champions of the prestigious award in the third edition of the triennial competition in Kuala Lumpur on June 16.
In third place was Botswana.
SK Ba Kelalan and SK Ulu Lubai share a common background — being remote non-achievers with poorly educated or illiterate parents and mind-boggling accessibility problems that would make many an urban teacher cringe at the thought of working there. But that’s all in the past.
Both schools saw off the competition at the Good Practices Award 2009, comprising 49 submissions from the Commonwealth, including one impressive presentation each from the United Kingdom and the Sabah Education Department.
“It is a ringing endorsement for the Education Ministry’s Cluster School of Excellence (Remote School Category) which has proven it could compete and win at the international stage,” SK Ba Kelalan headmaster, Pudun Tadam, said.
For SK Lubai headmaster, Jaul Bunyau, it’s “unbelievable” that they won.
“But we did it — it’s an honour to the community, the school and the authorities that helped us win.
“After we won, one of the judges, Professor Micheal Kelly, a Briton in Zambia, came over and asked a lot of questions. He wanted to know how we had done our project when other countries had failed,” he said.
Both schools delivered their projects but the competition was fierce among the nine finalists after two arbitrations. There were three finalists from Malaysia.
SK Ba Kelalan
To reach Ba Kelalan, one could either fly from Lawas or Miri by Twin Otter aircraft operated by MasWings under the Rural Air Service. Or one could hop into a 4WD vehicle for a bone-jarring journey through a logging track. It could take from six hours in good weather to days during rain to get there overland.
En route, it is not uncommon to spend the night in the middle of nowhere during the wet spell when road conditions are extremely bad or when log bridges are swept away after torrential downpours — scenes seen during the rainy season last year and early this year.
In the old days, it took up to five days to walk from Ba Kelalan to Lawas town, traversing rapid flowing rivers, jungles and hilly terrains.
SK Ba Kelalan has 104 students from the highland villages, and it was put under the Cluster School for Excellence (Remote School) only last year by the Education Ministry.
The school emerged from obscurity when it transformed a dismal 25 percent UPSR passing rate in the 90’s into 88.2 per cent in 2007.
Tadam, the driving force behind the school’s many successes, attributed its long list of accolades to the community’s contributions to the welfare of the school.
Musang — a concept of voluntary community service and good practices of the Lun Bawangs for generations, was introduced to beautify the school environment and make it conducive for learning.
Next came COMIC (Community In Classrooms). This involves a two-pronged approach of enlisting formal teachers and secondary or university students from within the community to teach during semester breaks or while the students are waiting for their SPM or STPM results.
It is essentially giving back to the community, and the students find inspiration from the readiness of their elder brothers and sisters to teach in the classroom for a few months.
With Musang and COMIC, parents, as active partners in their children’s education, readily help out in the school without being paid. They realise teaching is not only the responsibility of teachers but the community’s as well.
SK Ba Kelalan, after emerging from the backwaters of education in the state, went on to win the national award for the most promising rural school in 2003.
The beautification, landscaping and other aesthetic appeals of the school are a joy to see. Most of the materials were sourced from the river and nearby jungle. The school, with cool, fresh mountain air and a soothing layer of mist at nights and the artistic landscaping, is a great place for learning.
Aside from academics, the community also teach the students bamboo band performance and handicrafts.
Perhaps, the only thing missing is an outstanding award or promotion for the headmaster who has worked tirelessly for the betterment of the school over the years. The list of recognition from the ministry is testimony to his contributions.
Against all odds
In the lowlands of Limbang District, SK Lubai is 55km from the nearest town. It takes two hours of bumpy ride by a 4WD vehicle from Limbang town, and between two and four hours’ boat ride (depending on water level) up Lubai River to get there.
Alternatively, you can head to Kampung Makasing from Limbang via a 90-minute overland drive, or another two to three hours by river. The latter could take between eight and 10 hours during the dry spell.
The school was set up in 1964 by the Limbang District Council but closed down in 1974 due to an absence of teachers — none was prepared to teach at this remote school. It was re-opened in 1977 following appeals by parents in the area.
The school’s intake consists predominantly of Iban students from four longhouses — Kampung Rantau Panjai, Kampung Mulong, Kampung Limau Manis and Kampung Karangan Tapang — with a population of about 650, and most of the parents there are farmers and rubber tappers.
In the words of Jaul, SK Ulu Lubai has always been handicapped by limited facilities, financial constraints and a relatively uneducated population, typical of schools in the interior.
With only six classes and 35 pupils, the school has 11 teachers and six classrooms that are only six metres square each.
SK Ulu Lubai was picked as one of the cluster schools in the state three years ago but it has since risen above difficult circumstances to score good grades.
The school’s biggest benefactor is the community itself. The parents may have little education but they display exemplary selflessness — to the degree of finding it a pleasure to be helping the school — in pushing the students towards excellence in both academic and co-curricular activities.
The headmaster himself has spearheaded the school’s mission to produce good students with the slogan “shining like stars”.
Six years on since 2003, the children of Ulu Lubai simply love going to school, interacting well in English and other languages, displaying good student leadership qualities and performing up to mark in both academics and sports.
The teaching staff have succeeded in turning this remote school from an ugly duckling into a swan, making it the envy of many. In fact, so successful have their efforts been in instilling a learning culture that the students find great delight improving their knowledge both in or out of the classroom.
“They are just alive and active from the moment they come to school as early as 5.30am and leaving late at 6pm (if there are no activities) or 9.30pm,” Jaul said.
Teachers are always helping the students, and parents are part of the daily school scene, helping to cook meals under the Food Assistance Programme, cleaning and decorating the classrooms.
To address the lack of interest among some parents in their children’s education and progress, the school introduced the Ai Kita programme to encourage parental participation and tap the community’s culture of working together. This was among the early tasks that engaged the PTA actively.
Parents in longhouses now closely monitor their children’s homework, and notice boards from the school for disseminating information also help to keep them posted on school events.
Night study committees have been formed in all the longhouses. Parents take turns to ensure their children are studying or completing their homework in the ruai (varendah). This means parents can watch television with their children only at weekends!
As a result, homework delivery and academic performance have shot up. Happy to share the responsibility with the teachers, parents descend in droves on the school to help with after-school activities.
The many learning huts, fully-utilised notice boards, clean functional classrooms and conducive atmosphere attest to the concerted efforts made.
Planting vegetables in nearby longhouses with the proceeds from sales going to the school under the gotong royong concept is another positive feature.
So is the promotion of culture. The community train the students to play musical instruments and perform traditional dances during club activities. A cultural show is held monthly where parents fuss over costumes, make-up and other details.
Under the Prokat (class adoption) programme, parents help brighten up the classrooms to make them conducive for learning.
“The students run to school but walk home,” Jaul said, adding that a trophy and certificate were given to the best and most beautiful classroom each month.
At SK Lubai, students speak English with teachers, friends, visitors and parents — thanks to the Elis Programme that brought about tremendous improvement in the use of English in the school.
The programme helps overcome the language barrier. Before 2003, students interacted only in the Iban language but now, they can communicate in English as well.
SK Lubai won 47 awards between 2002-8, including four national awards, eight state awards and 35 at the divisional and district levels but the latest feather in its cap is being the 2009 Commonwealth Education Good Practices Award champion, an honour it shares with SK Ba Kelalan.
The victory took Jaul’s breath away.
“We didn’t expect to be the champion as the competition was very tough. We expected the UK to win as their presentation was so convincing,” he said.
Jaul headed back to the school with the trophy in hand, and a thanks-giving party in mind for the community and a big measure of gratitude for the school inspectorate, Chew Leh Choon.
“It’s a big honour to the community, teachers and students who have worked so hard for this,” he beamed.
Coincidentally, SK Ba Kelalan and SK Ulu Lubai are in Limbang Division, furthest from the state capital.
