Non Muslim Bumiputera Must Care For Themselves First

These are just two statements taken out from one article “Umno, PAS, PKR digesa duduk semeja” in Malaysiakini.

PKPIM Statement

What caught my eyes?

Agenda Melayu
It is the approach that MUSLIM MELAYU take to promote their AGENDA MELAYU. In Sarawak, this approach would have been censored by the political leaders. To have a Dayak to say the same thing in Sarawak about Dayak political agenda and positioned Dayak as the only rightful heir to Sarawak state would have resulted in you being labeled a racial extremist and scorn upon by others races. PBDS experience that while still in active politic.

Ketuanan Melayu
In West Malaysia, this has been the norm for so long. The kissing of the “keris” by UMNO Youth is just a small gesture of “Ketuanan Melayu”. Therefore, it is shocking to discover this racialist culture in West Malaysia. However, it has now spread its wing through UMNO into the two countries of Sabah and to a lesser extent Sarawak.

One can only conclude from the above statement from the PKPIM that non- Muslim bumiputera has no place in the mind of these young Muslim bumiputera in Malaysia.

UMNO BARU or PKR into Sarawak?

Parti Penjajah
From the perception of Sarawak, UMNO BARU is a “parti penjajah” in Sabah. Sarawak is therefore determined not to fall into the same trap of inviting UMNO BARU into Sarawak. If UMNO BARU is sincere about helping the non-Muslim Bumiputera in Sabah, why is it so much less develop, poorer and housed a higher percentage of the population below the poverty line than Sarawak? UMNO BARU used Sabah as their political “joker” or trump card and it has proven to be invaluable in this instance. This is also done in Sarawak by backing the “white colony”.

Multi-Racial Party
How about PKR? Will PKR behave exactly like UMNO BARU in Sabah after it enters Sarawak? What has PKR to offer Sarawak ? Another Muslim Bumiputera as Sarawak Chief Minister should it wins in the coming state election. Maybe not, as PKR is a multi –racial party. The experience of PR win in Perak and because of certain requirement, a Muslim Bumiputera is made the Menteri Besar even though DAP win more seats. In Sarawak, there is no such requirement to say that the Chief Minister must be a Muslim. In addition as Islam is not the designated official religion of Sarawak , even the governor could be a non Muslim, Bumiputera or not!

What would PKR need to do?

Political Patronage
PKR should first avoid a politic of “patronage” in Sarawak. If PKR is interested to win Sarawak, its political strategies should not be confined to winning election only for now. It should start with Dayak friendly approach that is to work closely with the rural Dayak to uplift their living standards and increase their monthly income. At this point of time, PKR must play a sterling role in fighting alongside the Dayak to defend the land rights, engage the Dayak professional and intellectual in a meaningful relationship. For one, the Dayak would not be comfortable if the “election budget” is left to the last minutes and they have to beg from the “master” for their election expenses allocation. This would subject the Dayak leaders to feel humiliated and implied a “sell-out” to PKR. This cannot be and must be changed from the onset.

Election Funds
PKR should select potential Dayak leaders and cultivate an income stream to build up funds to put up political structures at grass root level and also for Dayak to face the election largely on their own personal and financial capabilities. Dayak should not be made beggars in politic and later a subject to be “subdued” and “traded” upon as is of the current BN practiced.

Political agreement through discussion
PKR should have a formatted and structured discussion with those potential Dayak leaders to hammer out a draft agreement in black and white. Dayak has been lied to and played out by other parties just to get political power through Dayak and later push them way down to the back seat. BN Sarawak did this, Dayak wanted to avoid this happening again. It is not a nice joke.

What the Dayak need to do to strengthen PKR in Sarawak?

Grass root organization
Some say that PKR has assigned potential Dayak leaders to recruit members and form PKR organizational structure at ground level. This is the most sensible thing to do. But again, those Dayak leaders must make sure that they work hard and also DO NOT stifle the efforts of individual Dayaks with political aspiration to do the same. PKR cannot afford to “limit” itself in their growth. The most active and effective grass root leaders must be recognized for now.

Build a winning team
PKR potential Dayak leaders should also form a loose team and initiate discussion and get familiar with each other. There is no need to hide behind any curtain. The agenda to take over Sarawak should be put in the open. These leaders should then find common ground and strategies with other PKR members from different racial background and agreed to a based line for the struggle as an example JUSTICE for all.

PKR Knowledge about Sarawak
The interaction between PKR leadership from West Malaysia must intensify. Who is AZMIN or Tian Chua as a start to get Sarawak PKR supporters to have that feel of knowing their leaders? What are these leaders outlook of Sarawak? Now PKR is over dependent on Anwar knowledge of Sarawak and its people. When will such leaders come to Sarawak and meet the potential supporters in Sarawak?

What will Dayak gets
PKR should introduce their political agenda now and show the Dayak how it is benefiting them. The Dayak are holding back in reserve, as they are awaiting more information and a clearer perception of what PKR is fighting for. With the arrest of Anwar and “if” he is later charged in court, it will not go down well with the Dayak if PKR focus is entirely on getting Anwar release. There must be a PKR political agenda that promise a hope for the Dayak to have a better future. PKR should fight for justice as there is gross injustice affected on the Dayak by BN government.

Improve organization efficiency
It is needless for me to say that PKR Sarawak and its Head Quarter should be better organized. Membership approval and issuance of party membership cards are important aspect in the sustaining the fast increasing numbers of members applying to be PKR members.

Road Map
PKR State leadership should set a “road map” to be achieved by potential PKR leaders in view of the fast coming state election. PKR should not be made ready only at the last minutes as the key is making “opposition” work in Sarawak. Many communities depended on certain individuals to make their decision, they do not take it upon themselves to make a decision on who to vote. That is proven by the success of “project kilat”, the sumptuous foods and drinks that the BN provides to the long house and villages at the eve of polling day and rampant vote buying in rural Sarawak.

Mind Game
PKR must also be aware of the tremendous amount of “mind game” through the radio in Sarawak. Certain media support must be upgrade urgently to counter or reduce the effect of BN propaganda machine in Sarawak.

The above list is a start. It is not a structured or exhaustive list of “to-do list” but to alert PKR and the Dayak in this specifically that should they choose to be a PKR member and push the Dayak agenda agenda with PKR, those are the challenges.

Conclusion
Muslim Bumiputera of Sarawak in PKR must take note that the non-Muslim Bumiputera in Sarawak do not want to see a repeat of being played out and side line. Let all PKR members fight hard and ruthlessly for the power to take over Sarawak state and it is many potential PKR supporters hope that a new direction is taken and to ensure that the BN political practices is not repeated then PKR would be a major player to create its own brand of Bangsa Malaysia in Sarawak. Let no communities falls behind because of the creed or religion. Let justice and fair play prevail.

Let the Dayak not feel that being a non-Muslim Bumiputera they are made to feel and actually made 3rd class citizen in Malaysia. Non-Muslim bumiputera wanted to feel what it is really like to be a true and equal citizen of Malaysia – minus Ketuanan Melayu.

In Malaysia politic any Melayu party would want to hold the core in the government. Party like UMNO and PAS that is 100% Melayu party will want Melayu to hold all the important position, PM, DPM, Defence, Finance, Education, Home ministry, Foreign, Trade, AG, IPG, University head, Petronas head…..etc etc etc. Looking at the current situation it is likely that UMNO and PAS will end up joining force to try maintain this core they called Ketuanan Melayu.

If all non-Melayu in this two country of Sarawak and country of Sabah come together we will only have positive outcome. We will hold the balance of power and we must only work with Ketuanan Malaysian party. The outcome is either a Malaysia that is for all Malaysian or we will be kicked out of Malaysia which is also a good development.

PKR cannot form the government because PAS won’t allow, PAS is a Ketuanan Melayu party just like UMNO. UMNO will form the government with PAS if this is required of them to keep Ketuanan Melayu going. If PKR can form the government without the help of PAS but with the support of the two country Sarawak and Sabah this will lead to the possibility of us being kicked out of Malaysia. In this case Sarawak and Sabah is truely a Country.

Ketuanana Melayu make us less competitive, corrupt our mind, encourage corruption, encourage down grading of women, our country is slow in development and advancement as compare to country like Korea, Australia, Singapore, Sweden etc etc.

We must stop Ketuanan Melayu which is bad for our country.

The people of Sabah and Sarawak, you are now the kingmaker, please wake up and make the changes. It’s defintely to start from you all because you hold those numbers that can give the majority for a new horizon to emerge for the whole nation. Things will automatically though slowly change when you all made the move.

I share similar sentiments as the writer above. The non-malay bumi especially the Dayak people need to strengthen themselves as one, politically, in order to avoid being played out by the malays, AGAIN.
