Alternative Media Censorship By The BN Government
By Futurist in Rumahdayak.com
It is okay if they wish not to adapt to changes. Let those who resist like dinosaur one day. It is their own problem. Although some embraced blogging, yet still majority of BN’s MPs have “wait-and-see” attitude on this propelling phenomenon. Few key factors may contributes to this:
1) Time – they are too busy with petty issues. Thus, no quality time to spend on forward looking ideas on how to further develop this country. If there is any changes(and it benefits) may take longer to realize than we expect. It may take >10 years as in the case of Malaysia – internet media only take off here during early 1990’s. Ask any opposition camp, very little they wonder and realize the benefits of alternative media when they first embarked into portals and blogs. In the last 12th GE, the unprecedented result surprised all of them. Government camp keep underestimate the power of alternative media as they are so used to biased mainstream media. Read more

Body to address Dayaks Commercial Interest?
Posted by Dr. John Brian Anthony
What is Tan Sri Jabu, Datuk Seri James Masing, Datuk Seri William Mawan Ikom doing about Dayak Commercial interest? Tan Sri Leo Moggie was elected to lead Dayak Chambers of Commerce and Industry – and we Dayak have high expectation from our Dayak leaders whom we deemed to have been sleeping and enjoying their money and good life.
We Dayak need similar assistance from the Malaysian government and the 3 Dayak top leaders must not go and sleep. We Dayak want progress and our commercial interest is not even 5% on Indian’s ( from one men Ananda Krishnan or Tony AirAsia). Yet the Dayak leaders slumber on.
For Dayak readers – what is your take on this development where Dayak Commercial interest is almost non existence except for the elite politician that are given contracts and license by the Chief Minister? Read more

Posted by Dr. John Brian Anthony
It is time we engage our Dayak YBs actively by understanding what the Dayak can expect from the 2009 budget. We must sure the Dayak understand the budget and what is their role in planning for programmes and its implementation to help the rural poor. We can engage our YB by:
a) personal discussion with Dayak YBs
b) write letters to Dayak YBs to seek clarification and more detail information on government programme implementation
c) we can hold a public forum to discuss what is it that we Dayak expect on the way the government delivers the programme. ( Identification, Planning, Do, Check) as in Quality circle. Read more

PM BUDGET SPEECH 2009
Mr Speaker Sir,
I beg to move the Bill entitled an “Act to apply a sum from the Consolidated Fund for the service of the year 2009 and to appropriate that sum for the service of that year” be read a second time.
INTRODUCTION
In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious and the Most Merciful.
2. Praise be to Allah, for enabling me to present the 2009 National Budget in this Honourable House.
3. During the past 51 years, the quality of life of Malaysians has undoubtedly improved. The formula of power sharing and pragmatism has enabled Malaysia to emerge as a politically stable and prosperous nation. Despite the trials and tribulations of 1969, 1972, 1986, and 1997, we have prevailed and grown from strength to strength. Today, as we face a global environment of higher prices and slower economic growth, I am confident, if we remain united, we shall overcome this challenge as well. Read more

A Weak UMNO is an opportunity for multi-racial Malaysia
Posted by Dr. John Brian Anthony
As a reflection, if Tun Mahathir has allowed Anwar to become the Prime Minister of Malaysia, UMNO would not have been in such disarray and BN would still have their two third majority.
UMNO leaders are weak
It now become glaringly clear that UMNO front line leaders lack depth and competency in leading Malaysia. Najib after Abdullah do not provide the Malaysian enough confidence to be united under BN. Najib might have the long years in Cabinet experience but in his person he lacks the ability to manage a complex Malaysian issue. He is more towards scheming a negative strategy.
To be honest Tengku Razali would be a more competent person and a better all round leader for UMNO. We can expect UMNO and BN to rot quickly after Anwar entry into Parliament. The people will follow development in Parliament more closely now. The latest bad behaviour of Parliament is trying to rush the DNA bill. Read more

Designated Prime Minister lost his “by-election”
Posted by Dr. John Brian Anthony
The by-election in Permatang Pauh is the first test of Najib acceptance as Prime Minister by the people of Malaysia. The verdict is a resounding NO to Najib. Every voters knows that Najib is the designated (to be) PM by Abdullah and supported by UMNO. Najib was on the ground everyday during the campaigning. He hands out money to voters through different platforms and vetted so many BN so called campaign strategies. Yet he failed miserably. It is his vote of no-confidence.
Voters show Najib no respect
The voters of Permatang Pauh show Najib no respect at all. Does it also means the Malaysian voters do not want Najib to be the next PM. His “holier than thou” strategy in the by-election back fire simply because the voters see him for not what he say he is but for what he says he is not! Also something is missing – where is Najib’s wife?
Najib creditability as the future PM is now but gone. Najib direct head on one to one contest with DSAI ends up in Najib’s losing. Read more

Can Sarawak Governor be a non-Muslim?
Posted by Dr. John Brian Anthony
In the 18 point agreement when Sarawak elected to form Malaysia, it is clearly stated that Islam is not the official state religion. Nevertheless, since Sarawak independence the governor has always must be a Muslim.
Non Muslim Chief Minister and a Muslim Governor
Oral history circulated in Sarawak around the mid 1960’sand early 1970’s stated that if the Chief Minister is a non Muslim then the governor must be a Muslim. NOW, since Tun Rahman, the Chief Minister is a Muslim and the Governor is also a Muslim. What is the justification in Sarawak that the Governor must be a Muslim when Islam is not the State official religion. Read more

Dayak must go for Economic Transformation
Posted by Dr. John Brian Anthony
When the British were in Sarawak, their strategic human resources planning seemed to be “Trading and Business for Chinese”, “Civil Service for Malay” and “agriculture for Dayak”. This fact is stated without the intention of placing blame on the British for what is happening to Dayak today. It is to demonstrate that the same legacy follow Sarawak when it elected to form Malaysia. Thus, Tun Jugah was very mindful that the Dayak must be assisted and thus Article 153 of the Federal constitution was designed to uplift the Dayak progress in business through government quota and allocation system. Most allocation are somehow taken up by politician leaving almost nothing for the ordinary Dayak person.
After 46 years of self rule nothing changed
Merdeka Day is approaching its 46 years in Sarawak, the basic premise of Sarawak population remained, Chinese in Business, Malay in Administration and Dayak sweating in the field. The era of Rahman and currently the white croc’ colony not only did not address this issue but enhanced the perception and make it the most unpalatable reality. Read more

Sarawak Warriors: A Tradition that is worth nurturing
Posted by Dr. John Brian Anthony
This article is an extract of a letter taken from the New Straits Times (NST) Friday, August 22, 2008 issue and is included here for the benefit of those who do not have access to NST. It is also a relevant article for Dayak Iban to learn of their contribution to our nation Malaysia and the perception of others about the community. It is a worthy story to be told during the Merdeka Day season.

In our society where a datukship is a much sought-after status symbol, no one will ever turn down such an offer. Kanang, like most Iban soldiers that I had known, was too straight forward, honest and humble.
In the old days, bravery was the highest form of virtue in a man. Today many still hold on to this belief.
I would like to relate my encounters with two Iban soldiers back in the 1970s and 1980s. Read more

How the BN Politician Become very Rich?
Posted by Dr. John Brian Anthony
A friend asked that question yesterday because he felt that after Tawi Seli the politician has been enriching themselves and till today it has not slowed down but accelerated. Tawi Seli was a poor ex- Chief Minister, he even applied for a clerk job in Sri Aman government office after he was replaced as Chief Minister. His moved to apply for a job trigger the State government to implement pension scheme for ex-Ministers.
After that it is “rock me with money babe”. After all there are not many after Tawi Seli.
Timber license
This was the prize that politician immediately after Tawi Seli fought for. Evening prayer with an influential Minister is a must in order to get into the inner circle. Many succeeded in getting their timber license using various platform: politic, Islamic missionary, personal relationship, etc. Read more

End White Croc’ Dominance in Sarawak Politic
Posted by Dr. John Brian Anthony
The white croc’ has helmed Sarawak politic for 26 years – that is equivalent to one generation of Sarawak population who comes to know that he is their only Chief Minister.
Staying that long in “power” over Sarawak has now produce more NEGATIVE result rather than POSITIVE. The politic of development has brought Sarawak progress but at a price. Some of those development are not align to our culture in Sarawak. It has also brought much richest to family members, selected individuals and almost the whole system of political value system in Sarawak.
Political Value System of Sarawak under White Croc’
Decision Making
Nobody makes any decision – even Cabinet members without referring to Taib for his tacit approval. In such a manner, cabinet members are rubber stamp and slowly they loose their brain. They lost their thinking ability. Actually the decision making process was design to revolve around one man.
What do you think will happen? Complacency, abuses and many more negative practices will surfaces that will affect the population in its distribution of wealth. Gain from natural resources will reside in those he favours. Read more

THE DAYAK SEVEN (7) PRINCIPAL CAPITALS
Posted by Dr. John Brian Anthony
The article below is written by gmk@2020, a member in rumahdayak.com that I found to be refreshing in its approach to thinking. Some of you may have read it but there are more who should benefit from it. Maybe the Dayak Ministers and YBs should pay special attention to the content of the article and gauge what has been done by the them through the BN government and what more should be done to improve the Dayak economic position in Malaysia.
Likewise, those Dayak aspiring to be political leaders should expand their general knowledge to expert level in order to be an innovative leader and providing clear direction for Dayak.
General Overview
This Dayak Capitals Framework (DCF) is a tactical initiative that could be used to analyze our research on economic development growth and demonstrates the importance of social, human, financial, built, cultural, political, and natural capital to business development efforts within our Dayak Community. The DCF provide a systemic view of strategies by looking at the stocks and flow of assets in each of seven (7) Dayak Ancestral Capitals namely: Social, Natural, Cultural, Human, Political, Financial and Built Capital.
