Sarawakian Rejoice in Permatang Pauh by-election Victory

Posted by Dr. John Brian Anthony

Dayak Hope

Now for the first time in 26 years Sarawakian have a reason to celebrate the coming Merdeka celebration courtesy of voters of Permatang Pauh by-election in giving YB Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim a resounding victory. The victory mean a lot to Dayak people in Sarawak. It is meaningful and significant in that the Dayak now see a hope for a reform agenda, in line with Dayak Agenda demand for fundamental changes in Sarawak specifically and Malaysia as a whole. Now, our hope in helping to make the change in Sarawak is viable through PR.

Election Result:

Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim 31,195

Arif Shah 15,524

Hanafi 92

Majority 15,671

Dr.Wan Azizah majority 13,398

Improvement in majority 2,273

The arrogance of BN- led by Najib and Khairy and confused Hamid Albar lead to BN embarrassing and humiliating defeat. All these after BN ploy of sodomy charge, swearing over the Quran, Najib’s “i don’t know her”, petrol 15 cents price reduction despite promising no price change in August, arrest of PKR exco in Perak by ACA, threat of racial unrest, massive road block, show of force by armed uniform personnel, $1.8 million “election corruption” for mosque and surau, a weekday polling, are deceitful, abused of power by the Federal government and slander plus human right abuse of Anwar did not help the BN government. It actually lower the image of Malaysia among the international community and a disgusting to boot for Bangsa Malaysia.

Make Fundamental change in Sarawak by defeating BN

Sarawakian and Dayak specifically must now understand that the BN government is not only dirty and corrupted, it will used all means including “evils” to undermine our wish to make a fundamental change in Sarawak. The plight of the poor people are not important to them contrary to their stated priorities and objectives.

We cannot get rid of the Chief Minister T. Mahmud unless we defeat the BN. The white croc’ has no intention to leave the political scene at all. He has all his personal agenda and scheme that he has fullfilled and he wanted to raise the bar of his personal interest higher. The 12 dams and SCORE are prizes the white croc’ is eager to collect.

If Taib Mahmud is sincere in his intention, he can resign and hand over the Chief Minister post to someone else but not his son.

Buying off of Dayak Political leaders by BN

The BN has been playing with Dayak land rights and their socio-economic progress by “bribing” the Dayak BN political leaders with corrupted business opportunities and a “life with immense comfort” at the expense of the future of the Dayak community. Non of these leaders JABU, MASING and MAWAN has creditability to claim that they have made a positive footprint in Dayak economic progress. The NCR land development is a scam to deprive the Dayak of their rights to their land and is the most important asset to develop wealth for the community. They belong to the category of BM perpatah: “Harapkan pagar, pagar makan padi”. In Dayak Iban term : “Ngeyang ke perut diri empu”.

Sarawak wealth are just for a family and selected few.

Sarawak natural resources wealth, product of white croc’ politic of development and State and Federal government contract are all suck up by the few politician cum businessmen and their cronies. Many supported the BN with the hope of business opportunities and recognition reward but so little was focus on raising the income of the poor people. Abdullah Bidawi restated his focus to eradicate poverty – it is a hollow intention as there is NO EVIDENCE of policies and structured organizational change in BN government now.

Is Abdullah in cohort to maintain political status quo in Sarawak?

In Sarawak, as long as it is the same Chief Minister and his cabinet members of self serving politician, nothing will change. The Prime Minister as been a regular visitor to Sarawak recently as a guest of the state government and individuals. We hope it is for Sarawak development and not to make arrangement in cohort with certain political leaders to expand personal business interest. We do not know what has happened to the $1 billion additional allocation for sarawak after the PJU 12. Is it for the good of the State of sarawak or is it going into the pocket of “the few”?

We encourage Sarawak MPs to cross over to PR to form a new Federal government

Maybe the Prime Minister fear that Sarawak’s Member of Parliament will cross over to PR. As a voter in Sarawak, we want to see these BN MP cross over to PR in order to change the Federal government with more competent leadership in place of “flip flops” and with leaders that has higher cognitive function. Crossing to PR is not an insult to Sarawak voters, it is not a show of disrespect. On the contrary, it is a show of courage to make the change, a show of love for Sarawak progress and a will power to endĀ  total political control by a few.

We need smart Federal cabinet members to lead us to be a more competitive economy and a government that root itself in justice and respect for human rights. We do not want supremacy of one race. We want a united and proud bangsa Malaysia race. WE want a better distribution of wealth. For one, increase Sarawak/ Sabah and Trengganu oil royalty to 20 %. It is depletable resource and the 3 states are among the poorest in Malaysia. They need the money to developĀ  and prosper their people.

We want to see more Dayak Ministers in Federal cabinet, and should go as far as to take the post of Deputy Prime Minister. As an equal partner in Malaysia, Sarawak and Sabah deserved the DPM post.

This is Dayak Opportunity

Dayak has always being treated as “others” behind Malay, Chinese and Indian. This is insensitivity on the part of BN in designing official government “forms”. Dayak are not “others”. We are the real bumiputera of Malaysia, not withstanding our religious belief, we are natives in Malaysia by our own birth rights. We may not have the population to influence politic in a normal sense in Malaysia, but the 14 Dayak MPs from Sarawak can now make a difference by taking the first step to leave BN and support PR. There is nothing for the Dayak community to loose from this move to PR. Actually it would be an important calculated risk to bring move to bring change to Malaysia by replacing the Federal government with PR.

The Dayak MPs in Sabah can also make the same move. UMNO is in sabah only for “ketuanan Melayu: agenda. Sabah is even poorer than sarawak, that is reality. If UMNO really care, why is poverty level very high in Sabah. With oil and large plantation land Sabah suffered from unfair Federal government policies led by UMNO.

Conclusion

This is the time and the moment that Dayak has waited for. JUST DO IT! You will be Dayak and Malaysian heroes.

We have fought off the communist in Malaya and won our own war against the communist in Sarawak. We fought our war during confrontation with the help of Commonwealth. We fought the WHITE RAJAH of Brookes. We Dayak are the biggest voice in electing to bring Sarawak to form Malaysia. We now should not be afraid to make the change by bringing down the BN government for the sake of Malaysia’s future and more importantly the future of Dayak in the long houses of Sarawak.

    Dr. John,

First time to your blog and just love what you wrote.

I am from Penang and we had changed the government from the march 8 GE.

I have also the same vision as yours to see a united Malaysia under the Bangsa Malaysia concept.

Hope that others like you in Sarawak can make the change come true. Just vibrate the People’s Power (PP) idealogy and encourage your MPs to move over to Pakatan Rakyat.

For the sake of a PR govt I hope UMNOputras will continue to wave their kerises, promote Ketuanaan Melayu and related racism and threaten to chase out non Malay citizens who don’t like their policies. Pls abuse the NEP by all means and the BTN classes must continue so that the cinakuis, kelings and the Kadasans/Dayaks can be put in their place.
That way the rise of a PR govt is a sure bet.

as a semenanjung fella i urged sarawakians dont vote BN because they build you roads, place water and electricity or give you some wooden housing…. in this 21st century … it is a primary and BASIC obligation of any MP to do so, it’s not a reason why they deserve votes.

our country must move forward, besides roads and infrastructure we need to modernise, have jobs that can give savings, fair business opportunities and world class education system – vote for people that give you this irregardless whether you live in a jungle or not and especially if you live in one, because you want your son to move forward with time.

vote pakatan and change with the time!

Put a stop to the “dynasty politics” in Sarawak – do it silently and diligently. Pool all available resources we have. Money alone cannot guarantee BN’s victory in forthcoming state election although they still using the same old tactics. Go to the ground and do these things:

    1) Getting people want to change.
    2) Getting people to see the positive side of change.
    3) Getting people charged up to change.

Is there any truth that some MPs and DUN members from Sarawak are defecting to Parti Keadilan Sarawak (PKR)?

This is the question that some political observers are asking when they found out that two MPs and one State Assemblyman in Sarawak were seen in the company of Anwar Ibrahim during the Permatang Pauh by-election.

One of the MPs is from Parti Rakyat Sarawak (PRS) and the other is from Sarawak Progressive Democratic Party (SPDP). The State Assemblyman is partyless.

What you say may be true in Peninsular Malaysia, but this does not reflect the true picture in either Sabah and Sarawak. There is no political tsunami here. In fact Dr. Brian himself spoke fondly of BN before the 2008 election and I still keep the copy of what he said in the media.

Its now or never. JUST DO IT. We want CHANGE. It is “we the people” and not “we the favored few”. The time has come for Sarawakians to be brave and have the courage for the benefit of the future Malaysia. And I know that you can do it for justice, liberty, right to happiness and with equal opportunity in the real sense of the word MERDEKA. So let us change for the future. IN GOD WE TRUST.

I am so happy with the results in PP BE. We dayakians hope that the same thing will happen in Sarawak. Dr. please lead us to that way, if you are standing in the next elections, we will vote for you. We cannot rely on BN, because they are so corrupted and bringing us backward. I know it is not possible to convince the old ones to change their X from BN, but the younger generations will do not to vote for BN.

PKR will not have any impact in Sarawak. The Dayaks can support PKR, but at the end of the day, they will find that they have been used as pawn by Anwar to filfil his dream to be the Prime Minister. And at the end of the day, the Dayak will have no place in the Federal Cabinet and the State Cabinet. Siapa rugi? The rural Dayaks. Dr. John is a millionaire in KL. He doesnet care for the Dayaks who taps rubber, works in the plantation, and also the construction workers.
