Will Money play a major role in Batang Ai
Written by Dr. John Brian Anthony
Date of By – Election
I think it is going to be on the 7th of April – the same time as the two Bukits in West Malaysia. Of course for Sarawak, you cannot be too sure – the question is whether the Election Commission has verified and decided that the late D. Unting has actually passed away. My so saying is because the EC need to verify the resignation letter of the PKR members in Perak and later decided that it is not valid and therefor no election – just frogs. EC has no power to verify such letter as long as the Speaker confirmed and inform EC of the resignation.
Do expect the EC chairman to visit Batu Kitang to make the verification and announce his finding before the By election would be held.
PKR vs the MIGHT of BN
We must not forget that PAKATAN RAYAAT in Batang Ai will be fighting with the mighty force of BN both from State and Federal. Reflecting on Permatang Pauh and Kuala Trengganu, it is estimated that the BN government spent $500 million and $300 million respectively. Still BN lost the by election. PR need only to provide what is necessary to conduct a decent campaign to contest the seat.
Would BN spend $200 Million in Batang Ai? Why not – if PR win in Batang Ai it proves that PR is truly a national party with strong support from the Dayak Iban majority area. It will also jump start PR effort to replace the BN government with PR government in Sarawak. Read more

Batang Ai – The Bigger Picture
Written by Dr. John Brian Anthony
BN Federal Government owes it to Sabah and Sarawak to stay in power
Barisan National owes its power today to Sabah and Sarawak BN who deliver the simple majority in parliament. Make believes party like PPP, Gerakan and not surprisingly MIC due to its stubborn leader suffered near total lost in the last general election. MCA today has no resemblance to what it was during Abdullah first term. MCA is fighting for survival and “oral sex” is not the right medicine for their problems.
Three Old Men of Sarawak
In Sarawak – Taib Mahmud, Jabu and George Chan has overstayed their welcome. Masing and Mawan are not going any where either as the three OLD MEN are calling the shot in Sarawak. Many Sarawakian opposed the State government as a result of these three overstayers. They provide very little change for the younger generation to progress. At least two generations appeared in Sarawak and experience no other leadership except this three old men. How are these two generations going to be able to evaluate their performance with nothing else to compare with? Read more

BN Candidate for Batang Ai
Written by Dr. John Brian Anthony
There are two leading candidates for BN in Batang Ai: Naga Alam (private secretary) to the late Dublin Unting and Nelson Mujah (Lubok Antu District Officer).
Naga Alam is a nephew to Dublin Unting from Lubok Antu itself.
Nelson Mujah
Nelson Mujah is Datuk Douglas Uggah “real” brother because Datuk was adopted by Embas from Betong, thus he resides in Betong. His brother is from Balingian.
Originally, Nelson ancestors move from Lipat in Skrang and they have many relatives in that part of the world.
NOW -a “powerful” group in Sarawak has sent a request to State BN that they wanted Nelson to stand as candidate.
Naga Alam or Nelson Mujah
We will leave it to the wisdom of Batang Ai voters to vote for their LOCAL candidate in NAGA ALAM or an imported candidate in NELSON MUJAH from Balingian since there is no one that is good enough for BN from Batang Ai. Read more

The Candidate selection Game is on
Written by Dr. John Brian Anthony
On the surface everything look calm
Barisan Nasional has been searching for candidate(s) a few month back and has actually gone to the ground to sound up possible choice. By all account, BN has got it down to 2 potential candidates. One is a civil servant from Betong and by affiliation must be a PBB supporter and the other a local boy from Batang Ai.
Masing is going to be arms twisted by PBB
This is where the problem start to surface – can PBB twist the arms of Masing yet again and force him to accept PBB planted candidate? Remember this is PRS seat. How is it possible for PBB to do want they want? Read more

Batang Ai – 9 month without ADUN service
Written by Dr. John Brian Anthony
9 months wait for Batang Ai?
What is nine month wait without ADUN service? At least we know that the ADUN is sick and now has died due to his illness. May we pray and blessed his soul and peace and comfort for his family.
There are many areas in Sarawak that has not been visited and service by their ADUN because they are busy playing golf and seeking business opportunities to earn their commission.
45 years wait
Like many areas of Sarawak, Batang Ai waited 45 years for progress to come – did it comes? Yes, the Batang Ai dam but still many long houses are without electricity and clean water. Read more

Election Commission Confirmed A By-Election
Written by: Dr. John Brian Anthony
Uncertainty
This morning news were floating around saying Taib may not want to have a by-election. The Election Commission has confirmed that a by-election is a must as the last State election was in May 2006 and there is more than 2 years for the current ADUN term to end in May 2011.
Lubok Antu is PRS seat
In the last Parliamentary election Jawa Gerang was replaced as he was in the wrong PRS team – Team S’ng. However PRS Masing was given the mandate to pick a candidate which they did – the current MP Nyalau. What is interesting is that YB Nyalau has always been a PBB member. How Nyalau get to be PRS candidate is left to the reader to imagine.
My imagination says that PRS was very weak organizationally in Lubok Antu and as a compromised they agreed to nominate PBB man to the seat. So PRS is not actually in the driving seat in Lubok Antu. Read more

By-election in Lubok Antu
Written by Dr. John Brian Anthony
Condolence
ADUN for Lubok Antu, Dublin Unting passed away at 1am this morning. He was a Vice President of PRS – aligned to Masing.
By-election
Within 60 days from now, the Election Commission must held a by-election to fill in the vacant seat. It seems that the by-election fever is coming to sarawak and an important one at that.
Why is it Important?
PKR must win this election to give Sarawak voters the confidence to make the change in the coming State election. BN must win this seat to proof that BN is still strong and that PKR is just “noise” and BN is the king in Sarawak.
Secondly – this is Nicholas Bawin territory. Bawin is a VP of PKR and an important Dayak politician player in PKR. Should Bawin stand – this may be his first win and many more election to come or will spell his demise as a Dayak leader. If he cannot win still, then it is time he have to forget politic and do something that he is 2nd best at. Read more

PKR Dinner in Bintulu
Written by Dr John Brian Anthony
By the time I arrived at the PKR dinner venue in Bintulu at 7.30pm after attending the SDGA AGM in Kuching the place was full of “voters”. Two kilometers on both side of the road was occupied with cars, the scene that was never seen in Bintulu. It was raining slightly at that time.
There was a certain amount of carnival atmosphere but there was absence of children and entertainment program. The crowd that I saw were the “voters” crowd. The crowd did not turn to leave due to the rain. They seek every place for shelter as they were eager to what YB Anwar has to say. Read more

SDGA – Congratulation to the new 2009 Committee
Written by Dr. John Brian Anthony
It is not the intention of this article to analyze what happened at the SDGA AGM but more of capturing the spirit of what was going on.
Registration of participants
A record number of graduates registered themselves as SDGA members that day and qualified themselves to vote or offer their service to SDGA through being elected as Office Bearers.
There is a weakness in this approach that needed to be looked into immediately. This approach open the AGM to abuse of last minute “influx”of supporters of those seeking to hold office in SDGA. An automatic eligibility to vote and contest upon registration can throw the “election process” into chaos in terms of manpower and resources. In future, candidate with money can bring their voters and grab SDGA for personal reason by sheer new voters registered last minute. Read more

Dayak BN Political Leadership performance today?
Written by gkm2020
Understanding POLITICS
Politics teachers and/or gurus are looking for a definition of politics that is as far-reaching as possible, that encompasses and integrates as many aspects and elements of political reality as possible and that structures and systemizes them at the same time. All this is offered by a view that fundamentally describes politics in a multi-dimensional and structured way. It draws a distinction between the three dimensions of politics namely: the institutional dimension (Polity), the normative substance-based dimension (Policy) and the procedural dimension (Politics). We take this to mean the following: Read more

DAYAK not enjoying the real fruit of self rule
45 years after forming Malaysia, the most basic Dayak rights to land has not been properly addressed. We have MALAY ADUN members detecting “meaning and value” of NCR land to Dayak. MALAY ADUN issued statement that says that Government should not issue land title to Dayak – because Dayak do not develop the land or that the Dayak land is too big.
MALAY ADUNS changing the meaning of NCR land
But when the Chief Minister issue provisional lease that encroach into NCR land to Malay ADUN members, it is OK. A certain Minister from Lawas – says all sort of “wrong” thing – that all land not given title are state land etc and almost all DAYAK ADUN do not seemed to have anything to say on that. Why is it so – does that mean the DAYAK ADUN really are “fools without brain” which I believed not or are these Dayak ADUN member main concerned is their personal well being. Read more
