Are you (Dr.James Masing) a crony of CM

Posted by AndersonMelintang

Dear Dr John,

I watched the Aljezeera TV documentary on the 12 proposed dams in Swk. First of all I must congratulated you for being brave, bold and the fighter for the Dayak Change. I salute you friend!!!!. You have reached the frontier of the international media. But I guessed the journey is still far ahead, before the wind of change could rekindle the lamp of good hope.

Dr. James performed very well

I must congratulate also our minister Dr James. He performed very well during the interview session by the aggressive questions from the charming journalist. You two make us feeling proud as they are very few Sarawakian be able to make their way to renounce TV station. I guessed what Dr James said was genuinely from the bottom of his Dayak heart.

CM is always my friend

Our minister Dr James was indeed careful when being question by jounalist: “Are you the crony of CM?”. He answered, ” CM is always my friend but not his crony. The term crony in the free market capitalism, refers to obtained favour in business depends on close relationship with the boss. Of course as stipulated in Govt Service General Order Dr James had to be obedient to his boss, the Chief Executive, CM.

We can export our electricity

As a strategic planner, we agreed with Dr James for the proposal for 12 dams within a long time frame of 20 years, but have to be implemented in stages. Though I guess the need may be not as much as 600%. But if we were to export the electricity to other countries like Brunei and Sabah or Kalimantan, then definitely we need much more than 6 times of the current electricity generation.

Dam mitigation effort

The implication of harnessing electricity by hydro dam is firstly, 1) large the area will be flooded and 2) the people will be displaced to the new settlement area. However, the flooded area can be reduced by the construction of several coffer dams above the main dam e.g. Murum Coffer dam, located about 5 km upstream of Bakun. Other option is to reduced the elevation of the dam crest, so that it contained less volume of water in the reservoir.

Impact of dam

Of course, the people will be displaced from their ancestor land. I guessed it is indeed feeling emotion to see the grave of the fore-grand father drowned within the extensive mass of the water. However if not properly guided, the social problem will arise as we witness in Batang Ai.

Nya aja kaban.

    Dear Anderson Melintang,

OMG! You need to find out more…surely, you cannot be that naive!

I thought i heard Jam Machine barking like a stupid dog on Al Jazeera last night and especially loud when asked whether he is an allie, a crony!

Didn’t you see how proud he was to answer ‘yes’????

Don’t forget my ignorant friend, these elected representatives are working for the people, the ultimate power and are accountable to the people! Not to enrich themselves!

They are to be held accountable for their policies and actions, especially their abuses!

Know this, after WW II and in the war crimes tribunal, it is no excuse for those Nazi officers etc to say they are merely taking orders!

It is and shall be the case here! Sooner rather than later!

    God, where have you been????

P/s: Dr. John Brian, as a Sarawakian and most of proud to be one, i am very proud of you! And, i don’t have to be a Dayak to feel this way! You are Sarawak’s RPK!

I took note when this programme running… Difficult for our people to get into real situation as our local mainstream media are not allowed to air such things. Thanks to AJE (which not many people watch it)to reveals it.

    • The politic and economy of Sarawak has been dominated by Chief Minister Abdul Taib Mahmud.
    • The family own business has been involved in the building of roads, bridges, power stations, hospitals and the new state parliament building.
    • One of the most controversial is the building of the dams which caused the displacement of more than 10 000 people.
    • Nawan Sing a Long Luar Villager comments that they don’t know where they would go if they were asked to move and he is not sure if they will get any help from the government.
    • Chief Minister Abdul Taib Mahmud has been behind much of the development in the state but his families’ extensive commercial interest in many of the projects he approves has raised many questions about the conflict of interest.
    • Dam of Murun is among 12 dams initially planned. The needs of these dams are questioned as the state already producing 20% more capacity then it needs. The Bakun dam will double the electricity the state currently uses. The completion of the dozen planned dam in the state will produce up to 600% electricity.
    • John Brian Anthony, Sarawak Dayak National Union says that the government is not sensitive about the livelihood of the indigenous people. The displacement of people from the land they have been occupying for years and making them poor is not a good economy sense.
    • CMS (Cahaya Mata Sarawak) will be among the beneficiary as it owns the two major cement plants in the state. Bakun dam is already the biggest market for its product.
    • CMS also won the state approved contract to build an aluminum smelter. CMS owns 40% of the join venture with Rio Tinto.
    • A CMS joint venture has also won contracts to build the new state parliament building in Kuching. Many other similar state contracts had been awarded to CMS.
    • The major share holders in CMS are Sarawak Chief Minister’s family members.
    • Barely 18 months after it was founded, Titanium was awarded 150million state contract. It was meant to pay for the repair or replacement of almost 400 bridges in the state.
    • Sarawak Chief Minister’s son Mahmud Abu Bekir Taib owns 1430 000 shares in Titanium.

Faridah Ibrahim interviews Dr. James Masing , Sarawak Land Development Minister and his comments are:
    • Clean, cheap and renewable electricity are necessary for the state.
    • The 12 new dam is important for Sarawak’s future.
    • He denies the allegation on the environment fallout and the displacement of over 10 000 people during the Bakun project. He says that a survey has been done prior to the project and all the indigenous people had been consulted.
    • The proposal of the 12 dams shows that the government is responsible and concern for the future.
    • He denies the allegation of capital cronyism in Sarawak.

  7. batulawi on March 20th, 2009 3:28 pm

The BN may plan to build as many dams as they want and drown the natives into extinction,….assuming that Brunei, Kalimantan and all the other neighbouring countries have no rivers and cannot build their own hydro power station in the near future. Bad assumption. Still remember when the BN defended their move to raise the price of oil? And now what!… who suffer the most? You and me, fellow Dayaks. We the poor rakyats are suffering. Don’t let incompetent or corrupt leaders mislead us into voting for our own mysery and destruction. Vote for change…vote PKR.

  8. Iban Abroad on March 20th, 2009 4:33 pm

    Anderson,

JJ Masing can deny he is not a Taib Crony but not with what he did. He did more than a crony.

Brunei, Sabah and Kalimantan are ppoor countries and least industry, even industry in Singapore and Malaya a lot close what to say about making industry and factory in Sabah, Brunei and Kalimantan. The invester has change their route to Vietnam, Combudia and Thailand to make factory and industry. What fore those countries take current from us for what.

Anderson you need to know more about present economic. Penemu tak melintang.

  9. Max Cavalera on March 20th, 2009 7:40 pm

    Anderson,

Ukai nama…. JJM sigik udah kena tupik Taib. How can anyone deny the fact that it’s all cronyism and nepotism involved…. It’s too obvious… DAMNED obvious…. look at JJM’s face… he knows it altogether only denying the fact. Yeah right letting the legal/laws take action. How can they do it if everything is overruled by them? Unfortunate for our brothers in arms back in the long house…. If they were educated enough… they will surely know the reality of what is happening with all the money involved.

Quote “The home’s proud owners also offered dinner for 14 at their residence in a recent auction in aid of nearby Ashbury College.”

You know why? I know Sulaiman Taib’s kid go there. It’s an expensive private school once attended by sitcom Friend’s star, Matthew Perry.

The 12 dams? Shouldn’t it be assessed by an international Environmental Impact Agency instead of the the sarawak government-linked or Taib-linked NREB of Sarawak?

Look what happened to Interhill Hotel. It’s almost completed and only now that ACCOR and sarawak people discovered their unethical business practice.

    .

    politicians are foremost a crook.

in any interview their priority is to lie thru their teeth just to “scam” the people and sadly YOOU have fallen for their cheap trick.

so what now that this insidious crook has suddenly become a good iban leader just because he said what he said in this interview? or was it because he appeared in this international news channel that he is now a great leader of the dayaks that u seem to suggest.

do not forget that too many niceties were said before and in the end it was the dayaks that were still the ones getting screwed. Even until today.

so sad to know you have no vision at all and your blog is called DAYAK BARU.

how naive. now thats a good joke.

Masing is not a crony of Taib but rather a puppet or ’slave’ to do Taib’s bidding. Masing is toothless or powerless for he owes so much to Taib. Sadly, we the Dayak Ibans are the victim.
I often wonder why are we so easily bought and hoodwinked by BN’s form of politic. I wonder why we can’t see the mistakes and gross injustice done on our people. Sadly too, a large percentage of us kept on voting for the same people election after election.
Time has come for change and the time is NOW with Batang Ai.
Taib is up there is not because of his work but because of our so called leaders (Jabu, Masing, Mawan and others) are the foundation where Taib builds his power base. Aren’t our leaders ’stupid’ or are they so indebted to Taib that they became his ‘canine gangs’ to destroy us and our identity as Dayak Ibans.

Ni nemu, Jesus menyamar sebagai your enemy to see how obedient you follow His teaching. TS Jabu enda tau burum sida PKE pen enda tau buru. If one cannot love thy neighbour, that means, a satan is in control, unggal.

Remember, the cross of Jesus has two parts. The woodupright is urging us to love God with all our heart while the one while Jesus’ hands were nailed urge us to love our neighbours. Everyone can love God easily but not they neighbour. If one can prove that one can love thy neighbour, this means that one really loves God.
