  2. Discussion on the scope of SDGA
  3. Next Step forward
  4. Others – SDNU membership drive / Branch

I will be bringing the SDGA membership registration form for those interested to become member.

The membership fee are as follows:

  • Life is $200 + $10.00 registration fee = $210.00
  • Ordinary membership is Registration fee $10 + Annual fee $20.00 = $30.00
  • Upgrade ordinary member to life member = $200.00

Please contact me 0122803952 if you have any question. The setting of the preparatory discussion would be informal – allowing members to get to know each other. Payment would be collected at an equally divided amount based on the final bill from the hotel’s coffee house.

I assumed it is safer to pay as we spend instead of basing on a pre-booked numbers as no confirmation of attendance list has been created.

All Graduates please come forward to support our Dayak cause.

I am happy to see SDGA still continues as I believe it is a useful Non Government Organisation for Malaysians of Dayak origin. I still remember that I attended one of the first few discussions during SDGA formation in 2001, at a place just across the Kuching Hilton. I vividly remember who were present there at that time. My role and contribution was small though – apart from merely being there. Nonetheless, the impact on me was significant.

Like in any NGO, I believe the founders of SDGA had taken great pain to ensure that SDGA is apolitical as much as possible and that this organisation is for all Dayak graduates, crossing political borders.

After so long being branded as a lagging community, it should be refreshing to know that there are many educated Dayaks, where many of us are prominent leaders, businessmen and professionals. SDGA would create an opportunity to pool the “brains” together and to attempt to look into Dayak socio economic affairs. This effort had been initiated. Many symposiums were successful organised by SDGA – the first one was in KL Renaissance Hotel in 2001. Resolutions were established and follow up continued.

In SDGA 2nd symposium in Kuching (2002?) it was very encouraging and inspirational to see 1,000 members of SDGA convened after many years of political division among the Dayak people. This shown that we Dayaks share common causes albeit politically divided. Thus the great pain to ensure it remains apolitical makes great sense as SGDA can cause “unity” among all Dayak graduates.

About a month or so ago, my friend Peter sent me an email to ask me and others to register as members. I asked him if the then 1,000 members would need to re-register as well? Peter never replied me; I guess he was too busy with work. I did meet him a couple of times outside the office and yet never really able to hear his view on the matter. I guess that have something to do with the life membership, etc. members fail to pay annual fees or rather the failed effort to get members to pay annual membership fees. May be my question is irrelevant in the sense that I should have known better myself.

Yet the question remained – we should expect SDGA to have more than 1,000 members now i.e. much more than before. That’s why I think all Dayak graduates in the Klang Valley should all come to join the seminar tomorrow and support SDGA West Malaysia branch.

    DB,

Not sure whether my sms thru a friend reached you or not but here are a few suggestions that may be put to use.

    1) A registration list for the participants. Not just your SDGA/SDNU forms but just a simple register to collect names/contact nos/email addressess/occupation. This is because not all who attend may want to apply membership on the spot but with a register, you may collect their details for further references.

    2) Nametags for participants. Why not prepare materials for participants to create a nametag with (diy)..or buy readymade plastic nametag for the particpants to flash their names. That way, you will create a more informal atmosphere and encourage networking.

Some suggestions lah…i hope you will get the people turning up tomorrow…

Whether any of you aware or not, they are many graduates from Sarawak whom are mixed Dayak. For instance, Chinese-Iban, Indian-Iban, Chinese-Bidayuh and the list goes on. In a nutshell, they are the “non-Dayak mixed Dayak”. In fact, some of these graduates can speak Dayak languages better than speaking in their mother tongues. So, do us Sarawakians consider them as part of Dayak community? If yes, are they eligible to join SDGA though they are born with a Chinese or Indian surname? Besides, if you do this, you’re creating an opportunity to pool more “brains” into your association. Plus, scientifically proven that inter-cultural marriage is capable of producing more intelligent babies which will be beneficial in propelling the association towards its glory!
