Najib’s maiden speech as prime minister
KUALA LUMPUR, April 3 – The following is the full text of Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak’s maiden speech as prime minister, which was delivered over TV tonight:
“On behalf of all Malaysians, I would like to thank Yang Berbahagia Tun Abdullah Ahmad Badawi for his 31 years of exemplary public service to our country, his commitment to strengthening the institutions and fabric of our democracy and for his graceful example as our leader.
“I am grateful to Yang Berbahagia Tun for his confidence in proposing my name as prime minister to Duli Yang Maha Mulia Seri Paduka Baginda Yang di-Pertuan Agong, and I am honoured that His Majesty has consented to my appointment with this morning’s swearing-in ceremony. I feel a deep sense of humility at the opportunity to serve as your Prime Minister at an important time in our nation’s history.
“My life has been dedicated to public service.
“Growing up, I was inspired by the positive impact of public service in the example of my late father. Four decades on, I remain committed to the goals of tackling poverty, of restructuring our society, of expanding access to quality education for all, and of inspiring a new generation of young Malaysians to work on behalf of this great country.
“My own service in government has always been about getting results: To ensure a better deal for teachers, to improve conditions for our brave soldiers, and to strengthen our economy in defence of the people of Malaysia, as we deal with the outbreak of a global recession.
“In the coming weeks, I will be consulting with people around our country, as I begin to reshape the leadership and priorities of the Government. I am mindful that we should build on the successes and lessons of the past. It must be a government with new approaches for new times – a government that places priority on performance, because the people must come first.
“We must reach out to all parts of Malaysia… to all our diverse communities. In our national discourse and in the pursuit of our national agenda, we must never leave anyone behind. We must reach out to the many who may have been disaffected and left confused by political games, deceit and showmanship.
“We must draw on talented people across our nation, regardless of their position or background, to re-energise a passion for public service. We must sow the seeds of goodwill and understanding in every corner of this land, so that we continue to harvest the fruits of progress and prosperity for all Malaysians.
“We must seek to include and unlock the potential of our young people who will be the next generation of leaders, business people, engineers, scientists, teachers and doctors. We must give them wings to fly.
“And so today, I pledge that I will work tirelessly to serve all of you.
“In this spirit, I would like to announce that the government has decided with immediate effect, to remove the temporary ban on two news publications, release 13 detainees from ISA detention, and conduct a comprehensive review of the Internal Security Act. Additional details will be announced by the Ministry of Home Affairs shortly.
“These decisions are timely as we move to enhance the confidence of our citizens in those entrusted with maintaining peace, law and order, while recognising the need to remain vigilant of the very real security threats we continue to face as a young nation.
“I know that for every citizen, these are hard times and I remain focused in providing strong leadership to lead us out of this economic crisis and unleash our full potential as a nation. I will be steadfast in my commitment to meet the needs, aspirations and concerns of all Malaysians.
“So today I ask you to join me in this task of renewing Malaysia. I urge us to rise to the challenge of building a One Malaysia. People First. Performance Now.
“Let us begin this great journey together.”

how can people expect some one who subscribe to the racial and religious supremacy ideals to be capable of catering to everyone regardless of race and religious inclination.

PM speech is seem very weak to fight the Dayak Right, fight the corruption and power abuse in our nation especially in Sarawak. Use the reality of Najib weak speech in combat corruption, nepotism, cronism, Dayak Discrimination, power abuse in our campaign. BA and our nation arewaiting this weak speech.
Somehow whoever become our leaderb what ever happen to our nation, Dayakbaru committment are fight, protect and return back the Dayak Right. These committment ares ongoing tho our leader will be changed.

PRAYER FOR DAYAK VOTERS IN BATANG AI
O Jesus, come back into our society, our family life, our souls and reign there as our peaceful sovereign. Enlighten with the splendor of faith and the charity of your tender heart the souls of those who work for the good of the people, for your poor. Impart in them your own spirit, a spirit of discipline, order and gentleness, preserving the flame of enthusiasm ever alight in their hearts. May that day come very soon, when we shall see you restored to the center of civic life, borne on the shoulders of your joyful people.

What a speech by a PM that elected by slightly more than 2000 delegates in UMNO assembly.. Malaysia is consists of 25,274,132 population but only around 2000+ decide who can be a PM of Malaysia. MALAYsia boleh! Change, We Need!
Pama amat akiq Maha Adil. Masuk parti, keluar parti, masuk parti baru. Nyau lelese gamal iya bejaku tengahari tu tadi (4/4/09) madah diri masuk parti ba mua akih Ajib neh. Nya meh utai ke pemadu paloi ke kala digaga tuai ke kala no. 1 menya. Nama ngaga pengawa ke pemudo nya unggal. Kada enda bisi didanji akih Ajib iya nya enggau utai ke manah ba ati iya din. Ukai nya nemu puas puas. Iya nya meh mensia ke enda nemu puas. Ukai ka nulong tang jari kiba nyua, jari kanan genggam. Peda dek ila iya ngadaka projek udah nya iya meri agai proksi iya empu. Bisi ari Ajib belaya enggau TunLah. Kada aki Adil nya meda Kari ke tamak nya laban iya pen bam ga.
Prime Minister of UMNO not PM of Malaysia. Let the people chose our PM as done in US. Then everyone can be proud of our PM!
Najib is a man never to be trusted. Corrupted to the core and is reported to be the most corrupted minister in BN before he becomes the PM for UMNO.
On the day Ahmad Bodohwi handed the UMNO presidency to him , he heaped tons of praises for the ex PM who had done nothing worthwhile for Malaysians to remember.
A day after his ascension Najib showed how stupid Bodohwi had been a PM by releasing 13 ISA detainees which Pak Lah could have done himself by releasing all ISA detainees before he stepped down and 13 is the favourite number of the ex PM. Najib was trying to win over the fence sitters in the by elections and also protraited the ex PM as a man intolerant to opposition as he also lifted the ban on Harakah and Suara Keadilan.
Can we trust this man? Not until he can tell the truth that non-muslim in other parts of the world has been refering to God as ALLah as well and that Christians in Malaysia can use the word Allah in their prayers and publications. Tok guru Nik Aziz had said non muslims can use Allah to refer to God. Who is UMNO to tell the world that we can’t if UMNO is not the government of Malaysia.
Taib will be only too willing to share whatever economic cake is left in Sarawak with Najib to prolong his absolute rule over Sarawak. When Najib was defense minister his ministry wasted the most tax-payers money and received the most kick-backs for awarding contracts and purchasing defense equipments.
Can a fox be turned into a lamb just because he becomes the PM? Taib and Najib need each other to stay in power and also to fulfill a bigger ambitious development plans for themselves and families. Malaysians in Sarawak must stop the daylight robberies committed by these pirates.
We must win Batang Ai not only for the Dayaks and Sarawakian but for all Malaysians. VOTE Jawah Gerang and PKR for ketuanan rakyat.
