Datuk Seri Najib Razak’s Cabinet

Taken from: Malaysian Insider

Datuk Seri Najib Razak announced his Cabinet of 28 ministers today, with many faces retained and Sabah emerging big winners with four members given senior portfolios.

But despite the expectations otherwise, there were only a sprinkling of new faces with many members of Tun Abdullah Ahmad Badawi’s team retaining their jobs albeit with different ministries.

The Cabinet was also marginally trimmed down even though a leaner Cabinet was expected.

Among the ministers dropped were Datuk Azalina Aziz, Datuk Seri Syed Hamid Albar, Tan Sri Amirsham Aziz, Datuk Ong Ka Chuan and Tan Sri Muhammad Muhammad Taib.

Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin, newly elected as Umno deputy president, was made deputy prime minister.

Influential Sabah lawmaker Datuk Anifah Aman was the most prominent new member of the Cabinet and was given the plum Foreign Ministry portfolio.

Datuk Shahrizat Abdul Jalil, as expected, returned to the Cabinet as the new women’s affairs minister, as did Gerakan president Tan Sri Dr Koh Tsu Koon, who was made minister in the Prime Minister’s Department. Both of them will be appointed senators.

Another new face in the Cabinet is Raja Nong Chik, who was appointed Federal Territories minister.

Among the other prominent appointments were Muhyiddin as education minister and Najib himself remains the first finance minister.

Datuk Husni Hanadzlah was made the second finance minister.

Besides Anifah, the other three Sabah ministers are Tan Sri Bernard Dompok, Maximus Ongkili and Datuk Shafie Apdal.

Datuk Hishammuddin Hussein, who was elected Umno vice-president, was made the home minister while another Umno V-P Datuk Zahid Hamidi will be the defence minister.

Datuk Mustapa Mohamad was made the international trade and industry minister.

As expected, Khairy Jamaluddin, who was recently elected Umno Youth chief, was not offered a Cabinet post.

It was a major slap in the face for him as Datuk Mukhriz Mahathir, whom he beat in the party polls, was made a deputy minister as was his deputy Youth chief Razali Ibrahim.

MCA also maintains its status quo of four ministers in the Cabinet with Datuk Kong Cho Ha as the new addition in place of Datuk Ong Ka Chuan.

Look how smart are politician. Anifah aman rejected his Deputy Minister offered by PA Lah. Now become a full minister.

Lucky Sulaiman Taib not promoted to train him to take over from the father.

I thought Taib had said that BN’s victory in BA was a gift to the 6th Pee Emm of Malaysia. But why no new face from Sarawak in Najib’s cabinet? Sarawak still maintains the status quo with only two full ministers compared to four for Sabah. I’d expected Sarawk to be given at least one more new Minister and Deputy Minister posts to reciprocate Taib’s “gift” to Najib. But it seems it’s not to be.

Geogie Boy Chan seemed so optimistic that his party SOUP would be given another Ceputy Minister post in the new cabinet. When asked by by media people what had transpired during his brief meeting with the Pee Eem,he had smilingly replied that it was good news. Why no appointment for the five term MP of Serian? Why is he, being the only Dayak MP in SOUP, always being sidelined? In the previos Yong Khoon Seng was favoured over him. Just join PK,and you’ll assured of a ministerial portfolio if PR takes over the federal gov’t of Malaysia.

It looks like UMNO the backbone party of BN is breaking away from tradition when Khairy Jamaluddin (Pak Lah’s s-i-l) was not given any cabinet appointment. In the past the elected head of UMNO’s youth wing had always been appointed a minister. But this time around, Muhkrz Mahathir (the son of Dr. Mahathir) who lost to Khairy for the contest of Pemuda UMNO, is appointed a Dy. Minister instead. What a turn of event indeed!

What the dayaks get with SUPP is just the “SOUP” no “Flesh”.
Richard Rio, SUPP will not nominate you in the coming PRU 13 because you are so senior and the SUPP Chinese leaders will feel guilty if you win in the coming PRU13 and no nominate you the represent the dayaks in the cabinet line-up.
SUPP is a multiracial party but when come to nominate it members to any government posts it only think of their own cronies.

The return of Taib to Kuching empty handed without any addition of his PBB/BN friends to Najib’s cabinet illustrates how little they treasured the votes of Batang Ai voters that tilted in favour of BN in 407 by-election. Adding Koh and Chew to Najib’s list will surely hasten the demise of Gerakan and MCA in 13th GE.

    Hi all,
no need any alot of minister from Sarawak, because we in sarawak is not a threat. It shows in the batang ai result… even if there are no minister also we still vote for BN. Pity sarawakian… belik agi.. enda badu2. Belik nar aku ehhh.. :)

Why there was no Bidayuh in the line up? Are Bidayuh happy with that?

Najib still gets the advice from Mahathir to run the country.

  12. CharcoalArt on April 10th, 2009 9:22 am

    - 4 Sabah ministers compared to 2 from Sarawak – NOT SO GOOD!

    - Nadai menteri penuh Laut ari Sarawak! GOOD!

    - Syed Hamid is out – hope we will have less problems with “Allah” – GOOD!

    - Azlina is out – GOOD!

    - Khairy enda nyadi menteri – GOOD!

    - Muhd Muhd Taib is out – GOOD!

    - Muhyiddin DPM – GOOD!

I believe Naijb has a much better team than Pak Lah.

i agreed with malong and iban smrhan, maybe PR will have the same ideology with BN (they dont really care about dayak)..in tha cabinet line up..

as a PKR suppoter DR.JBA, i think we need to form a party, see what happend now, a lots of new dayak generation want a new DAYAK party and do this before they turn their back ON PR..

we have to stand on our own, mind about the resourses, just get it done, there sre plenty of time before the next state election..

  18. JJM Junior on April 10th, 2009 9:13 pm

Dayak should be happy with 4Js deputy + Douglas full minister. But when come to physical development their representation at federal level brings no merit to the dayaks. Are they puppets or just window dressings?

The sad thing is other MPs are also not effectively playing their role, normally spend their time sleeping or absence during parliament sitting. Iban said, “eat wages blindly”.

    gerinang,

Don’t underestimate the rural folks basic instinct. We have to accept and look the by-election result at different angle, use the helicopter view. Let the BN celebrate the victory with pride. And we are also happy to know that if the voters really can get what they wanted for all this while from BN.

From this by-election, hopefully we can forecast the voting phenomenon and take advantage of what will happen in the coming state election if BN
    1. fail to fulfill the promises? The voters not only in BA but throughout Sarawak will take BA as an example of BN great liar. They will vote the opposition in protest of the BN lying to them.

    2. able to deliver the promises, we the dayaks also benefit from the BN because of strong pressure from the opposition party.

Therefore, whichever the outcome the opposition party (PKR) has nothing to lose. Now is up to the BN to walk the options.

Nama kebuah enggai masuk nyadi ahli SNAP?

  24. Jimmy on April 11th, 2009 12:52 am

Dayak Minister – “girlfriend” – please stay away from such hear say laban it can attract legal action against dayakbaru. Not worth the cost – and also of no value to our Dayak discussion.

Thank you – it is just a reminder.
