Batang Ai By-Election Promises
It make interesting reading when the Prime Minister of Malaysia assured the people of Batang Ai the government will keep its promises to Batang Ai. It is a fact the BN government sometimes do not keep to their promises.
It is necessary for the PM to say this now as State election is around the corner. Bloggers has been writing that the BN government to date do not seem to move in the direction of fulfilling their promises.
Who says that Opposition is not important?
With Opposition
With serious opposition party around the BN government cannot threat the people as worthless. The same people can vote them out of power. Hence they are very careful with their promises to Batang Ai as the opposition can quote Batang Ai experience in the coming election.
Can Gov’t Fulfill promise in time in Batang AI before State Election
Najib says #3.4 million for renovating 233 longhouse. That works to be about $14,600 per long house roughly. Hopefully this will happen immediately to spur Lubok Antu economy.
If these project could be implemented before the next State election PKR will find it hard to penetrate the area. PKR Chief of lubok Antu would have little political future.
What Mechanism will be Used to disburse this money
The District Office sometimes are involved in “lobbying” for the jobs for their chosen business people. The Councilors are interested to be part of the business. The party members and workers are also looking to take a piece of the cake. What ever it is, hopefully not too much of this money should be wasted under ‘corrupted” practices.
All money should go to the people. Some MRP projects in Sarawak lost their value as much as 50% due to various “toll gate’ before the material is delivered to the long house.
What should PKR do?
The like of Jawa and Bawin should form a monitoring body to ensure that the money is distributed well without sidelining those long houses that supported the Opposition. This is so because the State BN is famous for such practices. Little did they know that it can hurt BN more then being helpful to their cause.
It is an easy mean of divide and rule at the long house level to show who is more respected by the “government” and who are not wanted. The BN will play on Dayak cultural sense of PRIDE.
Fantastic Roads
$10 million for Lubok Antu to Bulo and $60 million from Lubok Antu to Engilili.
PKR was right in starting their effort from lubok Antu. A place well known to the Dayak as their main entry point from Kalimantan Indonesia. It has great historical significant to the Dayak.
Since the last 46 years Lubok Antu and Engkilili sleep quiet and such strategic infra-structure development would be a great help to spur economic growth in the area.
Hopefully, this road is not build to spur private plantation activities that are own by private Companies and YB as partners.
Will Kapit get their Road?
Who acres? Kapit / Baleh has no strong opposition to BN. They elected BN all the time and never really show their displeasure with BN. The BN will take that everything is OK in Kapit.
Jabu says River transportation is cheaper to Kapit – no body seemed to protest that. Taib says it is better for Kapit to remain the way it is – to keep competition off.
I think road bring more customer traffic and facilitate cheaper transportation cost and efficiency in delivery of goods and services.
I hope Kapit would not have to wait for another 46 years. But who knows unless those from that region stand up and change their elected representative.
James Masing and larry has no interest to see development in Kapit it seems. Their response to suggestion on construction of kapit road is at best ‘silent”.

It is not only Dr James who is responsible to see that the road from Kapit to Song, Ngemah and Kenowit to be built. There are 2 other PBB YBs who are equally responsible.
Road from Kapit to Sibu has many missing links. Rejang river is quite long. But to say that no road has been built is not correct either as there have been many road projects every year; each time trying to join the missing links and it is getting nearer and nearer.
How wonderful it would if Batang Ai’s opposition is being credited for its development. Or as it turned out to be due to the lacked of opposition in the Rejang Basin that the road to Kapit has never been built.
If it is that simple i.e. just by having strong oppostion, that road you are talking about would have been built long long time ago – as Kapit/Song/Ngemah had many times over many decades lost to opposition in the past 45 years. PBDS was once an opposition too. Linggi who had stood in Kapit from PBB once and had lost too. How strong opposition do you want then?
If this opposition theory is really true, then the Ngemah state rep, YB Gabriel Adit should be able just now to use his opposition status to get the road from Ngemah to Song to be built in time at all. Well, lets wait and see as it would certainly be my pleasure to be proven wrong.

–That is no longer a theory but a proven tactics and it is universal be it for Dayak opposition or DAP. Take the issue of schools funding for Chinese schools (missionary schools included) which before the GE2008 was always backtracked but when MCA, Gerakan lost badly suddenly the funds increased many times. Is it because the DAP opposition status grew stronger, so strong that BN got no choice but to pacify the Chinese voters with the super extra schools funding? Or Chinese voters finally withdraw their BN support no matter what?
Same case for Dayak opposition even if you suspect the level of awareness for Chinese voters compare to Dayak voters. Not necessarily that Dayak voters slowly react of felt cheated by BN compare to Chinese voters who are hell bent on supporting DAP.
It is how BN finally admit their guilt. The guilt of delaying developments and funds. It doesn’t matter if YB Gabriel Adit is one vocal Dayak opposition that so vocal that no way for BN to run away but to allocate some RM10 billion to link Sibu-Kapit-Belaga-Bintulu road for good. It is how guilty you feel after you cheat. Like BN and their guilt feeling. For any folks with right sense of mind, development is basic human rights for all and not an election delay tactic. Some say justice delayed is justice denied so the same like development delayed is development denied. So for Sarawak you can see how guilty BN can be to all of us especially the Dayaks.
This is a sick culture of politics full of denials and in rural areas it’s easy to slug it out since basic necessities are all up for election trade. But if Dayak areas become urban well stocked-up and voters are highly informed, then who are you going to bluff? Therefore it is the time of your fight on intellects, not merely on physical infrastructure shortfalls since that lamp posts, roads, electricity, piped water are all solved and provided but left only how you sell your idea and visions, your live election TV debate to show why the voters should vote for you from other candidates. Intellect vs intellect.
Are we seeing our Dayak YBs truly engage in intellect vs intellect fight, or ever hope for it? Dayak politicians are FAR from it.
Government to fulfill promises – Batang Ai
….and that should be it. It good to know that our present govt still taken care of the rakyat, especially those in rural areas.What could be more than that, the PM himself come to the ground.
Hopefully the goodies promises by the BN & PM recently to the Batang Ai folks will be delivered and materialise the soonest. And that is what we said give and take or be appreciated and thankful to the BN.
It is just very,very wise that the voters in Batang Ai vote for the BN in the just concluded by election. Otherwise they we see nothing and gain nothing.

Money worth spending….for I contibuted or invested RM10-00 few months back but now millios of RM is coming back for the people in Batang Ai.

Yes and thank you for BN government and the prime minister to assuring this. This shows this caring government really keep their words during the campaign. Batang Ai folks deserved this since you have making the right choice.
So look the people of Sarawak this is what we mean the government of the people for the people. You seldom see this in some part of the world where the PM himself did not forget his people despite his tight schedule to attain to the needs of the whole population of the country.
Sometimes the opposition really help to play their role helping to bark on the needs of the people. We need the opposition and should give them some credits but not to let them win because this will backfire. So cheers and continue to support the government.
Changop4540- that is the prizes for voting and supporting BN for 45 years many Iban longhouses still wiyhout treated water supply and electricity.One thing that is obviosly happening under BN in Sarawak is the increase in areas planted with palm oil. Dini dini alai sawit ditanam. Rumah sekeda bansa iban pan ditebang to give ways to palm oil in the name of development,right Changop???So the Ibans MUST continue to support BN for the betterment of ibans community, right Changop??

Iban Ulu- BN government are working right now to ensure the rural area to be developed as well. This is well planned under the RMK10 and BN federal gomen has allocated huge sum of money to develop the rural areas. You will see roads, electricity and pipe water to area that don’t have that basic necessitate now.
Bulldozer are not like plane they travel quite slow. This infrastructure will gradually come. You may ask for another 45 years? The answer is sooner than that since the BN gomen is improving their delivery system. Now we have bigger lorries and big shovel caterpillar to speed the job. By year 2020 95% of Sarawak will be accessible by road.
That is true changop4540! The development by BN govt will come to the rural areas, only the rakyat have to be patient.
They should remember “Rome was not build in one day!”
The problem with the rakyat as we see is, that they are inpatient, especially when they are certain quarters come to instigate them. What a pity!
For those who are die-hard fan against the BN govt when their hearts are tightly close, no matter what good the govt did, is a thing of a bitter pill to digest.

In all mature democracies, a strong opposition, active NGOs, and politically-astute voters, only serve to progress the nation and people further. Thats why the Communist system fail: without checks and balance,is like having the proverbial emperor without clothes. Absolute power, corrupt absolutely-as the saying goes.Even Communist China strike to provide more political space for dissension within the party,to create the necessary dynamism.
Instead of assuming absolute benevolence (as you and your sisters seem to suggest) on the part of BN parties and politician,you should expect people to demand accountability of their elected representatives. It would be a disservice, by smart (Dayak ?) ladies like yourself, to the Dayak massess (and nation) to keep asking them to “trust” the goverment to bring them goodies like little children. Opposition is not being unpatriotic or being ungrateful bastard: on the contrary,active and principled opposition is the most patriotic action (see Obama’s Democrat vs McCain’s republican)
In the specific case of Batang Ai – it does appear the PKR challenge had prompted the BN leadership to suddenly (overnight) shower Batang Ai rural backwater with development budget.
Too bad that since BN had won Batang Ai with a big majority, the BN leadership may become more circumspect and calculative in how their election machinery disburse the goodies in future elections.
For Dayaks in Kapit,if they want the roads, then they should at least demand for the report of the feasibility study. It certainly won’t be characteristic of an intellectually mature constituency as Kapit citizens to not demand clarity of the government decision.I suppose you won’t want to tell them to be quiet little boys, do you ?
Thanks Mabel – Everything takes time to happen. God creating the world and all living things inside it in 6 days, it does not say whether he work 24 hrs and rest the 7 day despite of having a miracle. It doesn’t say further how long for him to create the entire universe. I am sorry if i quote this wrongly.
Whatever it is 45 years or 5 years less than a century to bring all development that we see today around us despite of all constant nagging by the opposition and refusal by some anti establishment and old ages bulldozer and tractors we should applause what the BN gomen of Malaysia did.
Roads was hard to built because it is costly and on top of that BN gomen has to fork more money to compensate for the mango trees, durian trees and other trees along the way of construction. Opposition just push for quick fix but did nothing but what make matter worse still hate the gomen.

I am an Iban from Meluan.About ten years ago,the BN government had promised us the construction of Entabai-Rantau Limau Ulu Road and to tar-sealed Pakan=Engkamop Road. These projects had been proposed since the 7th Malaysia Plan, but until now these projects are not done? Why? Can I say it the BN government is bluffing or knows how to make promises come election to fish for votes?
Taking cue what had happened to us in Meluan, may be BN government will not fulfil its promises to Batang Ai people.

Better you go around and ask YB from BN to table and pass the resolution to kill all the Dayak in Malaysia, so that all the BN will take all the NCR Right and BN can continue to practise corruption money politic, keep on descriminating Iban, No need questioning their wrong doing or advise or stop them. I am sure this resolution will pass and approved by Parliment as the Dayak anti-BN are few.
No need waiting our country like Congo, Gabon, Nigeria, Philipine during Marcos era or Indonesia during Suharto era. Nadai guna nyayat Iban belubah-lubah enggau politik agi. Does it not enought for you and your BN supporters?
BN promise for Batang Ai by election or before that is far from fullfil. Najib just resume his promise during the election, you guy already clap your hand and tell the people around the globe, Batang Ai has everything.

Aku baru pulai ke rumah panjai di skim phase 2 -Lubok Antu minggu tu tadi (bekau ke enda ulih pulai maia ari gawai).
Enti selama, bedau niki, udah dilalu ke bala kaban belayan enggau bala kaling – betanya ke berita enggau betanya ka berapa botol ai bisa ti bisi di bai, kadang2 dibai bala lalu ngagai bilik sida dulu sebedau beidun2 ke bilik kami empu. Ukai sengaja ka nusi diri diambat baka YB tang ka madah pemanah kaul kami.
Tang sekali tu aku tak berasai lain, laban semina di sambut bala diri sebilik aja. Bala bukai baka ke enda meda.
Nyau pengelama dirumah nya baru aku nemu, utai tu bepun ari orang rumah panjai ti enda sama penemu leboh pengawa bepilih tu kemari. Nyadi rumah panjai kami tu bela bisi ke nyukong BN pia mega enggau PR.
Sida tu, sampai sari tu agi besalah pangan diri, silau ke sama diri- nadai temu tuju.
Aku pechaya utai tu ukai semina nyadi ba rumah kami tang utai tu nyadi di rumah orang bukai mega. Anang nganti nyau mati YB siko da baru tar nuju skim phase 2 nambah mimit da. Tu kemari, bisi nambah 500meter peda aku. Nyulut mimit ngagai entara Ng Bengap enggau Salcra. Enti bakatu – lima kali bepilih da, bedau meh temu datai di Ng. Ukom jalai tar. Semadi meh bala YB di Lubok Antu suah mati-suah pilih mit, angka jampat agi ga iya datai. Tu kemari jalai LA ke Bulo aja ga disebut tudah Najib. Maia bepilih suba rm70 juta udah sedia, ko sida iya ga. Diatu, nganti approval ko sida ga baru. emm..
Iya ke amai, projek ti pemadu besai diberi PR enggau BN ngagai kami serumah ianya LAYA DIRI SERUMAH.
Vote for BN or Pembangkang?
Why no corruption in Sarawak?

Kasih meh kitai iban enti perintah BN agi befikir baka nuan. Angka nuan ukai bansa iban.
Nuan agi ngerichau lalu agi majak ke penemu nuan madah ke perintah BN sarawak enda nyiping bansa iban, angka nuan enda kala meda menua melaya, jauh agi nyenguk menua ke udah maju.
Enti nuan bansa melanau….sigi tau bangga nuan ke perintah BN tang enti nuan bansa iban nadai kebuah ka muji BN….semadi meh nuan beruntung ari pengerugi bansa diri empu.
Enti perintah adil, nama kebuah Taib ulih ngemansang ke kawasan melanau aja tang enda ibuh ke kawasan iban? Menua Semarahan & Tg. Manis agi madang apong & melai 20 taun ke lalu, diatu jauh maju ari menua Song & Julau ke beratus taun udah diwan kitai Iban.
Uji nuan manding ke menua kitai Iban- Song, Julau, Kanowit, Machan, LA……digaga agi pegai British Colony tang lalu enda dikibuh ke perintah BN laban sengajar nyiping bansa kitai…enggai meda iban maju….ti iban udah maju..badu nunduk ke projek atap zinc, manuk, baja etb ke suah agi diberi kita…
Selagi bisi bansa kitai iban ke makai bansa diri empu baka nuan..sengajar buta enda meda bansa diri dichiping org…selagi nya meh bansa kitai sendeka org ngaga. Arap ke kaban belayan nuan bukai enda merinsa akih….tang enti kaya ketegal ke makai bansa diri…….lu fikirlah sendiri…patut ke enda ngelesey ke bansa diri ketegal ke bulih ungkup 1-2 diberi perintah BN?
Akai dai! Rugi amat nadai pilihanraya ba menua aku neh. Enti enda pia, bisi ga habuan diterima rayat din. Untung endar meh sida ba LA nya neh. Ngerakal amat. Uji asoh parai memagang meh YB kitai awakka sida YB baru naburka mayuh danji ke deka dirami PM.
