Dayak – part of “Change We Must”
Written by Dr. John Brian Anthony
Undoing and Unlearning
For Dayak to move forward at greater speed there are certain pertinent change they must make. To my mind, Dayak needed undoing and unlearn certain aspect of their past. But what could that be?
Do we Dayak need to follow the racial line in politics as practiced by BN? This is a question for members of PRS / SPDP to ponder. PRS talked with great Dayak overtone but when it come to the crunch it got cold feet.
There are instances: PRS President led a “walk out” when what is it for NCR landowner is discussed in DUN. The Deputy President wanted to drop “Dayak” because the word is deemed ” uncivilized etc”. PRS chose PBB members as their representatives in Sri Aman (Masir Kujat) and Lubok Antu (Nyallau) who are PBB members. PRS also cannot get rid of Larry Sng – it does not seem to have a political will to do what is right for PRS or Dayak as it claims to be fighting for.
In PBB – “Bumiputra Bersatu” – Dayak /Malay / Melanau
Is there sidelining of Dayak (PESAKA) in PBB. Definitely – as Dayak we see our leaders in PBB being sideline. We however see the retention of many lod and ineffective Dayak leaders in PBB. Dayak start to wonder whether this done on purpose in PBB to slow down Dayak progess.
Frustration in PBB
It frustrates young Dayak in PBB and because of their loyalty they turn into “idle” mode, not saying nothing and not doing anything. They used their political position to improve their economic position. We cannot blame them for that as it seems the only right things to do.
Dayak in PBB not challenging for CM post
No wonder young educated Dayak are shying away from PBB and play into the hand of Muslim bumiputra PBB member in Sarawak. The nett effect is the Dayak in PBB are not posing any challenge to the CHIEF MINISTER post.
In SPDP Mawan is the leader but Tiong has the final say not limited to financial matters
This is the Dayak “political hang over” repeating James Wong role in SNAP and Sng role in PRS. It means Dayak political future is limited by the purse string held by non Dayak in the party. It is not the best of feeling to be in such situation.
SUPP – is not a choice for Dayak
Dayak are made to be the “show piece” of the unity in the party. The position of Richart RIOT is a case in point and we need not discuss the matter any further.
The development of Siburan and Tapah compared to Bidayuh populated areas that do not received the same attention from SUPP in dvelopment is glaring.
What is the unlearning that we need to make.
(1) We should stop BLIND LOYALTY
We need to unlearn retaining ineffective leaders in the party and we need to change our political support when the political organization do not champion our basic needs.
It means when we Dayak are not treated as “equal” in a political party it is time we stand up and accept the consequence of standing up for Dayak. Can we not provide “consequence” to others too by withdrawing our support and replace our peer in the party.
(2) Dayak leaders should stop being high and almighty
The economic allocation opportunities given to Dayak political leaders should be used to strengthen and compliment our political will to change what is needed. Dayak cannot allow the “political purse” to reside outside their control.
Dayak leaders should engage Dayak brain not limited to party members. Be open to suggestion and ideas and accept that ONE cannot know everything.
(3) Stop allowing “others” to think for Dayak
WE already know what we are today and therefor it is only right for Dayak to think of what they wanted to be. Make the process of change transparent and participative to allow for wider support from the community.
(4) Stop thinking that Minor Rural Project is progress for Dayak and performance for YB
It is almost an insult that after 46 years of Malaysia progress to rural Dayak means given MRP by YBs. It is physical and pathetically insignificant.
Leaders should create economic “enablers” and “grassroot organization” purely to address the community various needs. Using the “community leaders” approach is now flawed as these community leaders are “political appointee” with many bosses to serve and interest to protect. Not least of all is their financial greed in unethical ways.
Forward
Dayak leaders with good education and experience should take the lead and even engage good Dayak brains to work out programs for the common good of Sarawak.
Knowing that politics is not the ONLY solution for progress and that putting the responsibility of progressing the community squarely on the shoulder of the government is not right we must ernestly look for alternative approach and thinking.
It is most unfortunate to feel comfortable and secure in what we have today and even suggest to those that want change they are “dreamers”.
Success is about moving the goal post and jumping over higher hurdles. It also mean we need to develop our community strength to allow us to compete in the olympic of mental and physical progress in Malaysia and the global stage.
Conclusion
It is the NOT the unity we must seek but the oneness in purpose. It is not about adhering to one “political thinking” but to effectively use the political input and idaes of all to construct a progressive society.
We Dayak must not shy away or stop thinking of fighting for the CHIEF MINISTER position in Sarawak. We must not cat like Taib – making himself “master” of Sarawak – the Authority to Plan, Authority to Approve and Authority to PAY. That is “absolute power” and it CORRUPTS to the bone.

“Dayak leaders with good education and experience should take the lead and even engage good Dayak brains to work out programs for the common good of Sarawak.”
———————————————–
It would definitely be nice to see “good Dayak brains to work out program…” materialises. The sooner the better. How soon should we work out the propgrams?. Tomorrow is too late. It has to be NOWWW!!!. To start thiking about it tomorrow means procastination. It would be an embarassment when people stat to peceive that Dayak Baru is also procastinates.
A period of 46 years has gone down the drain. In late 70s, I could still see some Apeks selling their goodies in baskets carrying them from door to door. Nowadays, they are coming to our longhouses by driving Van pejaja. They then were not so much better off than we the Ibans.
And another 50 years down the road, we the Ibans will be staring at the success of the other races. The gap is getting wider and wider in almost every sector.
Therefore, “CHANG WE MUST” for the beterment of the Dayaks has to start today. How do we start?.Leave it to….
Cheers….
Very impressive Doc! We are quite sure a thorough study must have been done. Well it could be possible to make a new revolution in dayak strike back concept, if UNITY in dayak,s hearts is the words.
But one question lingering in our minds to the statements
“Dayak leaders with good education and experience should take the lead and even engage good Dayak brains to work out programs for the common good of Sarawak.” How about we who are less educated and out of experience, do we have a role to play or are we rather just follow the skipper of the boat since we are dayak too in the same boat, remember Doc, we are energetic too!
Please don,t get fast to blame us. As a very young generation we want protection and safety to be assured. That is why we don’t want to rock the boat. See, around the world the political struggle that gone awry, southern Thailand, Hutu & Tutsi massacred, Iraq, and etc. Most of us want peace and order. And that is how we come to the statements
“It is most unfortunate to feel comfortable and secure in what we have today and even suggest to those that want change they are “dreamers”.
Thanks you.
We, Mabel, Rachel & Maria.
Pakatan leaders lack vision and wisdom…Dayak must realised this for regret never come first.Looked like BN is still the better option.
MALAYSIANS who voted for Pakatan Rakyat in the last general election must feel disappointed and disgusted at recent events involving the coalition.
Coalition adviser Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim is charged with sodomy. Whether he will be acquited or not is immaterial. The damage is done.
The PAS conservatives, led by president Datuk Seri Hadi Awang and deputy president Nasharuddin Mat Isa, are determined to hold unity talks between PAS and Umno.
Though they had toned down after strong criticism from party spiritual leader Datuk Nik Abdul Aziz Nik Mat, the call by PAS Youth for talks with Umno Youth shows that the conservatives in PAS are bent on the unity talks.
The Penang government led by the DAP’s Lim Guan Eng shows its intolerance by sacking a PKR councillor who had boycotted a swearing-in ceremony earlier on.
The Penang Government should be more tolerant and be more passionate in carrying out its duties so that it does not hurt the feelings of its component parties.
Now comes the news that Kedah DAP has pulled out of Pakatan in the state after failing to prevent the demolition of a pig abattoir in Kampung Berjaya. PAS and DAP are not willing to resolve disputes and conflicts amicably, and both parties lack wisdom in tackling problems.
All the issues, together with other issues not highlighted in the newspapers, create tensions among the Pakatan component parties.
Unfortunately, the veterans in Pakatan lack the experience, determination and dedication to resolve all sorts of issues amicably and wisely.
They are more interested in condemning each other in the newspapers. And this has benefited Barisan Nasional, whose leaders are laughing all the way to Parliament.
Sad to say, Pakatan leaders are short-sighted. They lack vision and wisdom to provide a strong alternative to Barisan. The people are very disappointed with what has happened in Pakatan recently.
Changop4550! To us, as we see its, the situation in Pakatan Rakyat in semanjung is an internal crisis amongst their components parties toward maturates.
We can call it “Belaya Diri Sebilik Aja”, even BN also in the past has gone through this turbulence. As said by the Pakatan Rakyat Advisor. “Batu Tunggu Pen Kadang-Kadang Nemu Nersenke” . In Political Science Dictionary it is NATURAL, to claim and reclaim.
Shall we concentrate on what is happening on ours backyard. Hence what Batulawi said is rather fun but it does make sense and cut to the bone, nowadays” Kera Pen Nemu Ni Ke Sengayuh Lalu Ni Ke Senapang”
Thanks You,
We, Mabel,Rachel & Maria

Where to look for the result and vote?
Mabel Rachel Maria,
Laki enggau bini agi tau belaya, tang udah dua-tiga hari sama sama tengok ka pangan lalu begulai baka selama, agi mengancham.
Honestly,I never voted for any party every time election at Sarawak even at Machan, Kanowit my hometown.List below is my opinion about all politik party at Sarawak:
A: Profesional or not it different story, but because of party @ diffent voted our people “belaya diri(sebilik/serumah/sekaban)”.
B: BN – 45 Year has be our lead goverment? What a they do? Something good or bad it up to individual.I’m not said this party is bad,but I not say they a better than other party.
C: PKR – New party, we never know and not see yet what a they can do for our dayak communities.
I don’t want to judge a book from the cover.
D: Is’t relevant or logic if somebody rob the dayak land (NCR). If not, who will responsible on this issue and who did it to dayak communities? Why they did it to dayak communities?
Let share this artikel:
AD: Is’t true? If true why goverment alloud someone do this to dayak communities example at bintulu Rumah nyawin? And now I heard more than 3 cases happen at miri & sri aman.
If goverment not do this, how could soldier and police also came that day?
We (iban @ dayak ) a human same like taib mahmud and same liked other races at Sarawak. How could they “fuck off” iban from their on long house? It would be an embarassment.
Lastly, I think better we start build our own gun “senapang patah” and start keep a bullet.
We survive to disccuss with goverment to use the better & polite way, but what we got? We got nothing except loss our land.
It would be an embarassment

Is’t the truth?
If yes why goverment alloud somebody rob the NCR land liked what happened at bintulu, Rumah nyawin and other cases at Miri & Sri Aman?If not govement, how could soldier & police also interupt? BN is goverment lead at Sarawak is’t?
Changop, nuan semina nemu ngemesai ke penyai PR .Nama nuan enda nyebut penyai BN as though there is nothing wrong with their management in the country. Why don’t you mention the various scandals and corruptions involving peoples money committed by BN government? Why don’t you mention about land grabbing by your beloved CM in Sarawak? Marginalisation of Dayaks in Sarawak? Cronisme in the country? and many many more!!!!
Anwar sodomy case is a poltical conspiracy Changop and only people like you and Jabu believe in such.
Dr JBA,
I think the 4 points to be “unlearned” is too modest, to have much impact. The Effect in your Forward and Conclusion, does not follow the Cause in your 4 points to be Unlearn. I understand the difficulty to remain within DayakBaru “apolitical” context. So, I’m taking this from where you left off – with the notion of the need to Unlearn and Undo, to progress Change.
The case for Change from all postings in DayakBaru is probably about 60% to 70% complete. The remaining work is to crystalise the case for Change to be understood in the Dayak ruai. But therein lies the paralysis – especially in the political context. And to my mind, politics rank above all else, as the catalyst for social (re)engineering in the Dayak community. But given that the political discourse always hit a quagmire, when past (and present) Dayak political experience and personality is put on the table, the Case for Change is, as some said – is slowly being cooked into tangible action, but we don’t really know when dinner will be served.
Thinking out loud; I’m reminded of the Stockholm Syndrome. Our Dayak minds may be so perversely clutched into inaction, after it had been held and kidnapped into submission by the existing body politic. And to extend the metaphor further, patients of the Stockholm Syndrome need to be free of the environment that give rise to the syndrome in the first place.
At the risk of insulting the intelligent leadership in PR, I would put it to them that Dayaks need a Strong catalyst to break free from their Stockholm Syndrome. So, the political language for courting the community need to be loudly and clearly : “Revolutionary Change”. It is premature to ask Dayak what they can do for PR: but its most timely to ask for what PR will do to free Dayak from the syndrome, before Dayak can become productive enough to champion their own Case for Change within PR framework.
Dayak can “unlearn” and “break from their past” in incremental ways, but would be too weak and too paralyze to break free. That’s where PR can play a role. But as poor and as desperate the Dayak community are for Change, I believe-in the truest metaphore of Stockholm Syndrome-the incumbent BN would always be favoured. Unless-PR is willing and able to offer “Revolutionary Change” – that will “wake” up the Dayak mind from stasis. In another word, PR will be rejected if also profess MRP as the ultimate ticket to election victory.
To be fair and not to prejudge, what counts as Revolution Change, can be discussed and negotiated, within the Dayak public conversation and various fora. (Come to think of it, “Revolution” would be most apt for the Dayak community to learn – and to put their political situation into most appropriate context while Change is perhaps a bit too difficult to explain in the Dayak ruai). Lest I’m conveniently misunderstood by some authority types,no one is stupid enough to suggest armed revolution … but just a Change so significant, that one just have to be part of it. That’s what I want for Sarawak and for Dayak (nothing less will do) : that will energize me out of my relatively comfortable routine.
dear kaban
aku envy all your debates and what not on this matter. I respect your point. suffice for me to say that you all must be of some political science background or at least first hand political exposures. that should be of great value for all of us as we push our agendas.
but I believe this outpouring of general feelings and well thought of explanation would drive us nowhere from this very forum.
my point is, we may do the same thing over n over the years but what result should it give to our menyadis out there.
kati enti kitai make arrangement betemu somewhere further discuss on the matter and formulate plans to achieve that elusive dreams. Dr JBA may like the idea. at least i hope so. kitai have been barking at each other tapi jelu ke ka di timbak kitai di lak ka lari.
Am a trade unionist and i believe i have the tenacity to go all the way. and i believe kita semua pan sama. But the rule is simply no retreat and no surrender.
Dont mock me after this for this encouragement but what choice do we have now.
Wat
I verily agree with Wat wrote. It appears that Dayakbaru has managed to lure out many “shy” but politically-savy Dayak minds, to offer wise comments, aimed “to ngerak” and arouse the Dayak political spirit, and ultimately make the “change” a reality, and not just a dream of the
“paralized”.
I suggest these “brainies” come together and form a “Dayak political think-tank”.And that includes you Dr.JBA.
JBA, Meramat Tajak, CA, Iban Abroad, Papong Engkilu and whoever you guys here propagate the world of perfection based on what you learned through exposure or having political science background could NOT become YB i.e never can win the election if you stand as candidate.
You know why? because your political struggle is never relevant to Sarawak politics if you speak the truth of dayaks’ predicaments and you want to govern the state so much with efficiency and error free that no dayak will live below the poverty level.
And what I observed most good writers on politics are themselves failed badly if they stand as candidate because it’s always difficult to walk the talk- fight for equal opportunities.
If you want to win any election, you got to lie to our people (Iban rumah panjai) that they are the most fortunate human beings on earth because in every 5-year there are mee segera, projek kilat, chap langkau from the BN.
Simply become pretender like Jabu, Jemut & Taib. Nama padah Taib? Ti ngagai Iban, iya madah kitai org Iban; enti gai Cina iya madah kitai org Cina. Nemuai iya ngagai Bidayuh, kitai org Bidayuh ga padah iya!
Nama padah Jabu? Ti bejaku ke bansa org, iya madah menyadi kitai Cina, menyadi kitai Melayu, menyadi kitai Melanau- nya ke ditunda sida pembaca berita Iban ba radio. TANG enti iya bejaku ke bansa Iban, kala ninga Jabu nyebut menyadi kitai Iban….maia ngintu gawai dayak? Mimit bejaku laku nganu….sambil ngajar…angka nya maioh kitai Iban mereti sereta takluk nyukung BN….laban perintah enda tau dilaban.
Ulih ke kitai nukar our approach baka sida Jabu, Taib & Jemut? Ti sida nya good pretender, we should make ourselves the best pretender of the century. Suba nadai meh Jemut nya nemu….lama2 ke belajar landik meh ungal kitai nya; pejam enchelak bejaku ba al Azeera madah ke Taib mensia ke paling adil ngau rayat kelebih agi manah ngau kitai Iban….
Org baka changop nya baru ulih dikarap ke kitai nyadi tuai kitai Iban….
“Principle” is the word. Iban Militant, we could not agree to a suggestion that the future Iban/Dayak Leaders if it should arise be a “Good Pretenders” to the rakyat. Unless we want another duplicate Iban/Dayak/Laut?/Me Leaders rise again only in different forms but playing the same old TUNE.
Let be a politician with “Principle” such as Fidel Castro,Lenin,Mao,Truman,Garfield,Pinochet, and not to forget Gandhi. Thought some may be TYRANNY in nature, but all had principle.
In the beginning it might be a bitter pill to swallow for the rakyat but as they get used munyi ko Laut “Alah Bisa Kerana Biasa.”
The words by Maramat Tajak “Revolutionary Change” should be given a positive thought, as he said in his own words:
“So, the political language for courting the community need to be loudly and clearly : “Revolutionary Change”. It is premature to ask Dayak what they can do for PR: but its most timely to ask for what PR will do to free Dayak from the syndrome, before Dayak can become productive enough to champion their own Case for Change within PR framework.”
We believed these magical words could give instant trigger impact to the rakyat and created the PARADIGM SHIFT.
The statements by Wat should not be overlooked, as he said,
“kati enti kitai make arrangement betemu somewhere further discuss on the matter and formulate plans to achieve that elusive dreams. Dr JBA may like the idea. at least i hope so. kitai have been barking at each other tapi jelu ke ka di timbak kitai di lak ka lari.
Am a trade unionist and i believe i have the tenacity to go all the way. and i believe kita semua pan sama.”
It is good if we are really serious to sort things up. But maybe in the NEXT AGENDA or when THE TIME COME, right everyone! We are sure DOC, will has something in mind.
Nevertheless, we admired man with principle and true spirit in this cyber astro, MR. CHANGOP4550.
Sincerely Keep up the Good Works Buddy!, we salute YOU.
Thanks You,
We,Mabel,Rachel & Maria.

Dear All Dayaks,
Maioh chara kitai Iban tau ngetan ka tanah NCR kitai tang enti terpaksa NYERAH ka tanah NCR ke dirampas perintah, kitai tau nunda bala Kayan Kenyah di menoa Ulu Baram din.
Auk, sida di Ulu baram din nyerah ka tanah ngagai sida komponi enggau sewa siti pohon Kelapa sawit, enggau rega RM0.50 sen sebulan lalu di bayar belabo ari tarikh agreement digaga. Nyadi semua sida iya bersatu lalu madah ka tiap2 buah bilik bisi 1000 hektar lalu dalam 1 hektar bisi 248 pohon kelapa sawit ga. Tanah nya dalam agreement bisi kena 25 yahun aja lalu enti lepas 25 tahun, sawit nya pulai ka orang empu menoa nya semua. Enti kitai ngira,
1 Hektar = 248 kayu x 0.5 = RM124 sebulan.
12 bulan = 124 x 12 = RM1488 satu hektar.
1000 Hektar = (248 x 0.5 x 12 x 1000 ) = RM1,488,000
Retinya, kompni nya mayar setiap pintu setiap bulan sebanyak RM3,100,000.
Nyadi sida iya enggai masuk dalam syer 30 + 10 + 60 laban nya NGELAKAR. Nama main bakanya ngelakar? Bah, sapa kitai ari rumah panjai ulih AUDIT kompni nya? NADAI….Lalu nadai siko mega ari nembiak ba rumah panjai ulih access ngagai pentadbiran (untong/rugi) kompni nya.
Nya aja. Trima Kasih.
If PKR or any other candidate want to win against BN. They must have clear agenda for Dayak, Melayu and other races in Sarawak. Beside they are have office at city easy to somebody to go in and out.
Current PKR or another canidate who want to stand aganist BN to me it is still not clear AGENDA.
So I purpose to any candidate who want to stand against BN:-
This is my example as winning formula for them:-
1: NCR – What they can do about it?.
5 Year i give land tittle to right owner.
Joint venture project for NCR – Clear agreement with land owner with reprenstive all land owner.
2: Equal opportunity employment, business and schoolship – How they address this issue.
No more discrimination in whole races – Melayu Isalam, Dayak, chinese they are all Malaysian.
Why we Malaysian still practices Races?????
We suppose to treat people respect and diginity. and to achieve this target i will setting a office for formal and un formal compliant from Rayat.
3: Project development for five year program – Road, electric and water – What is the program or plan for this.
I will make is clear more transparency to every budget agreed and issue by federal goverment – will make clear to Rayat what is next planing Yes or No.. by state goverment so that Rayat is share all the information.
Rayat for vote during election they are the one needs to know all about this. This is main point that BN always win vote. Do PKR or other candidate have lesson learned from losing against BN from last election. if not.. prepare for lose agian by BN.
As we know BN AGENDA From year to year.
Thank you
JBA,
My question is simple.u say to change the dayak community must be supporter pkr.why n how the process happen?…
Why u talk about dayak in PBB, SPDP, PRS and SUPP. Why not u talk how to improve (change) dayak in SNAP or PKR, because that is the issue, Dayaks in BN ready do thier part. If dayak in PR better than dayak in BN may be next, dayak comunity will support u (but a lot things to do not easy what we say and condemn others)
Ngubah enggau berubah ba penemu aku siti utai ka enda ulih diseliah ka kitai enti kitai deka mansang tau ka surut kebelakang.
Enka aku salah tang aku agi kakang tau enda pecaya kitai dayak ngena platform PK or PKR as an agent to change for a better dayak or sarawakian as whole.
Ba aku PKR/PR are good in exploiting issue and create a certain perception but the true test of character ulih dipeda when thing and tide are again them.
PR is not about DSAI tang DSAI bisi bagi ti besai
ba PKR to gel all PR together .And this is part that worry me..his complicated character and issue
/case around him . To me he fail ba moral test as a leader to bring Malaysian forward.
Then somebody may say BN nya lebih agi.but this is my personal view. I like to think the ideal person to bring change ba sarawak or malaysia as a whole we need the leader in the class of Dr Mathathir and Senior Minister ex PM of Singapore
Mr Lee Kuan Yew. Simply Visionary and principle leader who like to take responsibility of the own action and their ability to make thing happen rather then blame , blame other as majority of PR YB do.
So Dayak we need extraordinary leader to move forward.I like to think of Datuk Seri Idris Jala
to bring Sarawakian forward. A Simple and humble Family man, Man of faith and character who take responsibility for his action. His ability to have positive impact to all level of people regardless to what they do.He command respect among other races and leaders.
TQ
We all know that we have been taken for a long ride- in circles. And we see the same mountain, river, valley and plain year in and year out. The wagon driver had been instructed not to go along other route lest we see and think different.
Today we see different and we are supposed to think different too. Today we must not let others think for us the way we have been letting the wagon driver, driving us in circles. We must decide collectively on what, how and why we must continue to survive as Dayaks.
To pressure JBA to do some solo thinking feat to solve our problems could fry his brain and won’t do us any good. With millions of Dayaks smart thinkers floating around, give positive comments and suggestions on how we would want the PKR to govern and manage the state coffer if they govern.
We are aware of what the BN had done to our NCR land, our constitutional rights to property and freedom and so forth. What are our expectations and hope for the future…. when we synergize the power of our will for the betterment of our future generations, we will never fail.
When millions of Dayaks believe we can change for the better, we change. BUT when we all refuse to believe we can change…we will not/never! Others will always and only change us, for the worst.
Kelingmenua1,
your “winning formula” and hope for any aspiring candidate against the BN is most commendable and noble.Alas! my friend!! No doubt at all that many a successful YBs(BN or opposition),had stepped into politics with these ideals in mind, but once inside, lost or(for survival),discarded them in the political reality.Personal interest, agenda and greed got the better of them.
Before the BN select anyone as their candidate,it would ask wether he/she is willing to be a “team-player”: to abide by team rules,be absolutely obedient to the team captain(who is unlikely a Dayak). In no way are they allowed to think or act on their own, even in the face of glaring foul-play,which would be fatally detrimental to their being retained as candidate in the next election. On the other hand, they would be rewarded for their surendering and “hear nothing, see nothing”characters. The longer they remain blind and deaf to the plights, needs and wishes of their Dayak brethens, the more their candidacy is guaranteed by his team captain and BN.That means more time to build the empire of greed and more years to bathe in the glamour and luxuries of being YBs.
Thus none of our BN Dayak YBs dared to spell out their agenda clearly and truthfully. They will have to abide by the agenda dictated by their captain and leadership(who are unlikely Dayak),wether they like it or not.
Discrimination? Equal opportunity? We,among the minorities, cry out against discrimination and un-equal treatment in politics or government policies. What about the majority? The Malays! The Muslims! Do they ever cry against discrimination or in un-equality? Or when they see discrimination and un-equality dealt on the minorities? What if WE were the majority? That will be the day!! For us the Dayak, its plain wishful-thinking to live in a Malaysia free from discrimination. A dream.
Yes,fully support Pakatan Rakyat & DayakBaru.
Change We Must. The sooner the better. We have been suffered for much too long. Only Pakatan Rakyat can free us from this terrible misery and unjusticed treatment.
We(The Dayak) have been mistreated in every angle and corner. The time has come for a paradigm shift.
We don’t want to be blamed by our future children as we blaming our forefathers for the ignorant or misdeed that had been done by or to.
Let the past teaches us a valuable hard lessons, in order to gain experienced. Come let us all make a tremendous impact so that the whole world noticed we are not the inferiority complex being.
the troll above sometimes support BN and sometimes support Pakatan. next day maybe he even support communism
Jojis, What are you talking about? This is a free country. Anyone can support or choose any ideology or form any political party as the case maybe.
Definitely, Revolutionary Change is needed. In order to upgrade and safeguard the dignity of the Dayak. Otherwise we will back again to the same old story and playing the same old tune, no better than a slave in our own land.
Revolutionary Change Is Indeed!
Let me ask all of you in this forum? What we going to do in next election to ensure BN is not giving power for next term.
Remember BN has money “They just can spoiled the voters: Before opposition and turn to BN because of money and instant noddle project and other promise project development etc… this tactic are working well for BN and i pressume they still using this method.
Curruption practices and NCR issue is this enough to spoiled BN.. I don’t think voters
care about this as this is an old tactics
as commented by BN.
Kindly comments with your input let said 10 point Why we Reject BN.
See you next
Thank you
Quote: “We Dayak must not shy away or stop thinking of fighting for the CHIEF MINISTER position in Sarawak. We must not cat like Taib – making himself “master” of Sarawak – the Authority to Plan, Authority to Approve and Authority to PAY. That is “absolute power” and it CORRUPTS to the bone.” Unquote
Other Dayaks BN/PBB and Component leaders just “JILAT” Bontot Taib to make sure they got their shares.
Dayaks BN YBs not fight for the Dayaks peoples’ rights and they even make sure the dayaks people POOR.

Well, change we must? I dont understand politics so much, but what if SPDP and PRS combined? Who will be the President? Asing will fight against Awan as usual( remember PBDS?)
We need a totally new platform? Is PKR an option?
I can’t really see how PAS or PKR can understand Dayak.
One thing is sure, as long as the older generations still lives, change will be slow.
Anyway, Dr. JBA, thanks for your good work. keep it up.You are the CATALYST for CHANGE!

John Brian is not in the PKR Sarawak leadership team. The PKR person who created the polls with John’s name on the list is being subversive. I fear it’s a plot to break up PKR Sarawak.
Personally, I’m happy that John Brian is not in the PKR Sarawak leadership team. My impression is that Dayakbaru as led by him is a racist movement. I would never vote for anyone with racist inclination. May be I’m wrong.
And now John Brian is taking another segregative step – marginalizing the less educated. Too bad for me – I’m not such an educated person.
abel ahing, you said JBA and Dayakbaru blog were racist? what a typical liar
i wonder why there are many BN liars are here in this blog today….
abel ahing, so youre basically saying JBA and dayakbaru blog is irrelevant because of racism? and so youre typical liar
As I said DR. JBA should consider joining any of the Dayak base BN party in pursuit of his Chief-ministership.
Taib is not the real problem for the Dayaks. The real problem is the Dayak legislators, assisted by the longhouse chiefs (think subsidies) who are keeping Taib in power. Why? Taib’s work is to collect and share the spoils of office with them. If Taib is not around, the Dayak legislators will simply gather around another Taib who can serve them. So, if u want to bring change to Sarawak, forget about Taib. That would be barking up the wrong tree. Focus on discrediting the Dayak legislators & the longhouse chiefs for propping up the current political system which works against the interests of the Dayak nation. It nust be remembered that it was also the traditional Dayak chiefs who kept the Brooke Dynasty in power for 150 years. If u want to kill a snake(the system of political power), u must cut off its head(the Dayak legislators) & not just step on its tail (Taib),if u step on the tail, the head will strike u with its poisonous fangs.
PKR is not the answer for “change we must”. It is Annuar’s platform to clear his image and he was the one who strongly advocate “Ketuanan Melayu” with the introduction of Bahasa Malaysia as medium of instruction in School. It was then a turning point for poor performance by Dayak students in academic field after being ahead during Colonial era and subsequently lost of positions in Government services.
In order to change, we must look for the answer differently to those of DAP or PKR. Let the Dayak Brain do the thinking and not PKR brain to do it for us. Can we be united to make a change? Otherwise talking will not end and the result will be more hatred for each other, more in-fighting for leadership position. There is already a dozen names listed. Maybe it is easier to close the rapport with current leadership and provide support to them. This is actually what others fear most in us. I know BN is now stung by various failures that they fail to control, but they still have a strong foundation, infrastructure and network to function effectively. Just think about it. All the best and Rgds.
I would like to answer Abel Ahing – “Dayak Baru is racist.” And as the blog owner, Dr John is.
Abel, you read earlier post extracted from Malaysia Today: “It’s about Race and Religion.” It refers to PAS and UMNO. And what about MCA, is it a racist party, I mean are you allowed to join MCA? And what about SUPP? Do you have a future and voice inside SUPP? What DAYAK ISSUE has SUPP raised? And what about PBB, is there any Chinese there?
Dayak Baru is about Dayak Rights. Is there any one political party, one NGO, one organisation today in Malaysia that speaks for the rights of the Dayaks? Do you hear PBB MP/ADUN asking CM Taib – where are the Dayaks in the civil service? Where are the scholarships for Bidayuh, Ibans, Kayan? Is there anyone in PRS, PBB speaking about intrusion into Dayak NCR land? So far only Dayak Baru dared to raise these issues – is that racist?
And the word “educated” in his posting; you took it in the wrong spirit, sir. Read the total posting in this blog. He is concerned that (1) Many educated Dayaks are happy to sit back and ONLY watch. His encouragement is; get off your butt and do something positive. Take the lead. (2) Many ADUNS/MPs of the past were not much of a success in the personal and professional life and therefore succumbed to temptation of corruption when they entered politics. They were/are often intimidated. They were/are cowards.
There is no criterion that is easy to define other than education. But I am sure you know education is not only about degrees and PhDs. Abraham Lincoln never attended University, but he was educated. Yet Dr. John can’t be specific into the details about education and its meaning.
Abel, Dr John is a professional and would, given a choice prefer to enjoy his life in society. But he tirelessly travel to the rural places, gives free seminars which he could easily charge a few thousand here in Putra Jaya. He walks in the jungle, barefooted sometimes in the middle of the night in order of reaching his destination. I know him and even though I am younger, I cannot follow his pace.
I am sorry for this long answer, but I am especially impatient to read that someone with good intentions and objectives for his people is being labelled as racist.
I don’t agree people just simply labeled us as racist if we are bloging on issues regarding our right. Abel Ahing, (correct me if I’m wrong )racist are people with a belief or doctrine that inherent differences among the various human races determine cultural or individual achievement, usually involving the idea that one’s own race is superior and has the right to rule others. If he govern any nation; racist will use a policy, system of government, etc., based upon or fostering such a doctrine; discrimination. Besides, racist are people with hatred or intolerance of another race or other races. DJB is never been part of it. We are not asking for more but, we want ours back.

I must say it is quite refreshing to read a blunt comment such as yours. You seem to see “racist” as black and white. If UMNO for Malays, MIC for the Indians, MCA for the Chinese, then they must be racists too, aren’t they?
If you care enough to read the posts in Dayakbaru and then call Dayakbaru as racists, that would include me as well since I am current quite active poster here, well…if compared to UMNO, MIC, MCA, who champion one race each, Dayakbaru is talking about Dayaks of 27 tribes, how could that be racist?
Whatever’ve got into you today Abel, I am trying to understand – please post more of your views here as I am intereted to read them. Thank you

Extracted from Abel Ahing & am not pro Dr.John
i.John Brian is not in the PKR Sarawak leadership team. The PKR person who created the polls with John’s name on the list is being subversive. I fear it’s a plot to break up PKR Sarawak.
My comment:
Nobody is plotting any body .Straight Talk .We all need change : “CHANGE FOR THE BETTER FOR THE WELLBEING OF THE DAYAK”.
It may look like it is an academic exercise on who shall lead PKR.Having said that, it does give an indicator where we all are heading now if we really vote with Dayak’s Development (now & Future) & “Change we must” in our/your mind.
ii.Personally, I’m happy that John Brian is not in the PKR Sarawak leadership team. My impression is that Dayakbaru as led by him is a racist movement. I would never vote for anyone with racist inclination. May be I’m wrong.
MY comment:
It is very sad “plus” very disappointed to hear and get COMMENT/feedback from an able person like you.
Let me reiterate, I am not pro Dr.John and at the same time, I have not met Dr.John personally and I spoke to him only one time while he is on his trip to KL & but couldn’t meet him.(DAYAK GRADUATE membership drive)
What I hear , read and could deduce is that Dr.John is not a racist as what you claimed .What he/we wanted (Visions) is simple WE/He wanted changes for the better and (legitimate demand) & on par development with the other community for the DAYAK community in general.We/I strongly believe, you are fully aware & you could see where we, Dayak are now in all aspect which include education, economic, etc NCR land issues (if you’re Dayak) and where we should be (if we/you “care” to read, hear and see the development of the “OTHERS” for the past 46 years).
iii.And now John Brian is taking another segregative step – marginalizing the less educated. Too bad for me – I’m not such an educated person.
My comment:
Mr Abel, Let us be realistic & blunt& factual on certain thing. If Dr.John ever try to marginalize the less educated,
Perhap, you see from a different perspective or else he would not even go to the rural areas to give seminar & talk on “DEVELOPMENT/PROGRESS” to those who are less fortunate & as educated as he is.
For your information,I am not as educated as what you all think ,but, with the physical and mental spirit of oneness in all aspect for the Dayak Community drive me/us for changes ie. CHANGE WE MUST.
Rationalization rather than generalization and “fast jumping” to a less constructive conclusion is equally unhealthy and of course not productive and progressive.
Have a nice day.

Could someone out there just define and highlight what do we really mean by the word “Racist” in a simple layman’s term.
By simply labelling a person or an entity as “racist” is not too good (technically unhealthy), my friends and at all time should/must not be cultivated now especially when we are talking about so called “oneMalaysia” concept as advocated by PM .All tribes/races are treated the same in all aspect but, not in “quality and quantity”
Abel, your definition is very much welcome and perhap, we could help you to see from a different
positive and a conclusive view.
TRUST AND NOT MISTRUST AS MISTRUST WILL LEAD TO DESTRUCTION
The BN policy is ‘do what I said BUT dont what I did, examples:-
1. Some racial based party can be registered within a few week BUT MDC cannot be registered takut ka penyarut.
2. UMNO tau nyebut ketuanan Melayu megai Kris, nyebut Idup Melayu tang bangsa bukai nda tau di kumbai racialist and the list will go on and on.
3. BN policy ndang nda manah, nya-alai maioh bangsa/orang ke pandai ngai nyukong BN lebih gi cda former Resident, Judges, Magistrate, Lawyers, Senior Army and Senior police Officers, Doctors, professors ngau maioh gi ti bukai, tang Bumiputra ti bukai diau ba menua Ulu baka Dayak Iban, Orang Ulu, Bidayuh ndang paloi lebih gi ti beumor 60 taun ke atas tulah ti nda nyukong perintah kenu
After missing Dayak Baru for a few days,I have noted that there indeed were some changes of hearts. It is nice to know that Mabel,Rachel and Maria are already in the queue.
My congratulations to our young ladies.Just hope that there will be no hopping eh.!!
May be we should do DEBATE among any contenders of PKR include DJBA as USA style.
Let the best man win and we FULLY Support the PKR Debater Winner.
Then the WINNER of PKR will Debate with BN Representative, may be TAIB Himself if he “seorang lelaki”!! or any one better than TAIB. This is to ensure whether PKR can govern Sarawak.
When some one is good in debate he should good in Leadership. Look at Barack Obama in USA or any former USA Presidents.

Jabu vs Dr. John.
Dr. Chan Vs Domimiqua Ng.
Let them put their best agenda for Sarawak
hahha.. im totally agree with u kelingmenua1
Dear All,
So, now, what shall we do to counter attact the biased ideas from Abel Ahing?
1. We are not racist and so, we Dayaks must help, assist, guide our fellow Dayaks in whatever we could do so that we Dayaks are not going to be labelled as racists. When UMNO can call Ketuanan Melayu, we the Dayaks can say, AGI IDUP AGI NGELABAN in term of economics, social, politics and Christianity. Get assistance from NGOs from overseas to subsidise, to do sponsorship and I am sure that our Dayaks can get with all those millions of dollars if we could get in the world networking.
2. Civil services in gomen. Maybe we could take some initiatives to get some but we must remember that the “Ameng” say we Dayaks LAKIA and the Ketuanan call us KAFIR. So, we dayaks are like the mentega on a Pau. We are the sweetest part and usually we the victims. So, we must go out from being the victims. We must help, assist each other Dayaks and we are not racist at all but to make ourselves to become as par as the Ameng and the Ketuanan…How? Help each other and give priority to the dayaks in all senses.
3. Politics. MDC? Maybe we still can hope for it at this very moment but remember that this TAIK is still alive and there will be time when this TAIK be in Hell and …there then we could get this MDC be registered solemnly, sweetly…but when can it be when this TAIK is still alive? and also the AWG Middle too…Wait and see and I am sure that most of the educated Dayaks wish to become the publicity assistants so as to help the MDC, inclusively I, myself..
4. Education. As long as you are Dayaks, please do some sponsorship drives for the talented and the potentials especially the ulu ai students. There are several cases that some bright Dayak students are not given the opportunity to secure a place in university but what could we do if Dayaks have somebody out there to select these students then? Now, who are the people in power to choose the student application? Amengs and Ketuanan, right? Dayaks?..ppstttt!!!…I dun think so any..huhu.
5. Racists? We Dayak are not RCIST because we comprise of 27 small ethnics and there are some more in Sabah which could be totally up to even 50s, am I right? Correct me if I am wrong.
6. Religion Extremist? No way…We Dayaks, eventhough 99% are Christians, we tolerate other religions and we never despise others who had inter-racial marriages BUT how about Kentutan? I dun think so. So, how could we excercise our special right as Christian? Remember that, we have 20 elements in hand and that is why Sarawak had his special right to disallow the Malaya People to enter Sarawak. So, at least we still be guided by some of the elements. So, I wish that all Christians MUST know that we have the right to excercise our right as a believer. And remember that, other religion believers (Ex-Christian) who wish to become Christian back, our Lawyer such Baru Bian can guide us to become Christian back. You can excercise your freedom of religion in our beloved Sarawak as for now.
7. Semua diatas nya nadai besangkut paut enggau sapa sapa ke agi idup tauka udah mati. Nama nama ke bisi diatas nya sekadar direka kena ngaga samples ngambi ka peda mata.
Regards, God bless dayaks and We must Change to see the change for Dayaks.

“Personally, I’m happy that John Brian is not in the PKR Sarawak leadership team. My impression is that Dayakbaru as led by him is a racist movement. I would never vote for anyone with racist inclination. May be I’m wrong.”
————————————————-
Ys, Abel, You are wrong. It just your inclination and thought that lingering in your mind that Dayakbaru is racist. Since the formation of Makaysia, the Dayaks have never brought up issues affecting the sensivities of other races. There has been no racial conflct between Dayak with any other races in Sarawak and Sabah. There was one in K.L on May 1969 netween “Ameng” and “Ketuanan”.
———————————————–
“And now John Brian is taking another segregative step – marginalizing the less educated. Too bad for me – I’m not such an educated person.”
————————————————
No,Abel. Again you are wrong. Actually, Dayakbaru is trying to pool the knowledge of the educated Dayaks so that are able to close the various gaps with other races. Other communities have set up a number of associaions to bring up the educated so that they could be productive to the societies.
Thanks.
Why must we appraise ourselves whether we are racists or otherwise. It has never been proven that the Dayaks are racists.
Other organisations like UMNO,MIC,MCA are indeed racists and have proven thermselves to be RACISTS.
We are only putting our views pertaining to some problems peculiar to our own group and there is nothing wrong with that.
Others worry that if we Dayaks can unite under one Dayak Party, the other minority groups in Sarawak would be marginalised,as the people in power would be Dayak Leaders.
Most of us are looking towards achieving that
objective.So Change we can.
Dr. John, may I suggest that you put out two very good comments from Malaysia Tooday for Dayak Baru visitors to share:
1. Tengku Razaliegh’s comment on “100 days of Najib as PM”
2. Dr Mahathir’s comments on tha abolition of PPSMI.
There are both good articles,TQ.
Dear All,
Please be informed that lina soo have decided against my protest and objection to remove the Poll at linasoo dot com.
However inorder to continue with the objective of having the Poll, please go to the following sites
1. http://ngkimho.com
2. http://tunabdulrazak.co.cc (which I have hosted for a fellow blogger I befriended at Batang Ai)
to vote.
I strongly believe the present state committee is a joke as can be seen with the removal of the Poll at linasoo dot com.
How can a leader for us and PKR be unwilling to be subject Public scrutiny?
Even BN and UMNO Leaders do not mind!
But in PKR? Could this leaders be worst than BN than?
Most of the candidates are from the present state committee, except Dr John whom I have taken liberty to include.
Hence in order to do justification to ourselves and as supporters and symphatisers, please do the needful and proceed to the above two blogs to cast your votes.
For PKR Sarawak, I have created two other blogs for other purposes:
1. http://zulhaidah.com (for Sibuti and Miri activities
2. http://biro-latihan.co.cc (for National Training Unit of which a leader from Miri sits on the committee.
A third, skuad-sarawak is on the way and will be online once the promoters is ready.
As supporter I fully understand the constrain we all face especially when it comes to Media and Publicity. Hence to help out in a small way, I am encouraging anyone to start blogging and for divisional leaders to create a blog and upload activities for the voters to judge.
All Blog hosting will be sponsered by me. Should anyone require a blog, just contact me at hostage88@gmail.com.
You only have to pay your own domain and I sponser / donate the space to hosting your blog. Alternatively you can choose a free domain such as (2) above.
Regards and have a nice day.

Dear hostage88,
Certainly you’re one of the clowns in the PKR circus. What you say, the way you say it speaks louder about who you are than about the message you want to deliver.
Why are you so pissed off that someone does not want to take part in your stupid poll? You never asked the person permission to include his name. Isn’t that so very rude of you? And now you don’t respect the person’s right to be excluded? How has civility degenerated in you?
Were you given official authorization to set up the poll by the PKR State Committee? Have you met face-to-face the people whose name you put up to brief them? PKR is an organization and a legal entity that has rules and procedures. Renegades like you are subversive to the cohesiveness and smooth running of an organization. Now you hink you’re so smart to put John Brian’s name in the list.
Why don’t you talk face-to-face with those whom you are so quick to belittle!!! Get to know their hearts and mind, their conviction and sacrifices. These are the very people who have put so much sacrifice to the movement – much more than you can ever imagine!!! You hardly know them! Do not judge them by face value.
So, don’t be quick to call others clowns when you are the bigger clown!
