Who is developing Dayak land and for whom?

Posted by Cikgu Iban

“Land without development is a poverty trap,” he said,……. CM Taib Mahmud.

……………………………………………

Idiotic Statement

DB,
Do you agree with this idiotic selfish statement?.The key word in this statement is the meaning of DEVELOPMENT. Here it refers specifically to LAND Development. Now, who is going to develop the lands. Is it the government, the investors with their huge capital or individuals?. Read more

Crony Capitalism is Bad for the Country

Posted by Meramat Tajak

For thinking DB

Lets put it this way. Some of the Dayak who benefited from Taib’s family from employment or business relations, need not feel the shame, especially if they don’t understand what crony capitalism is. Neither should those poor laborers and Class F contractors feel any kinship with the crony politician and capitalist.

Those who has the intellectually capacity to understand crony capitalism but still singing praise of the present state government is well, above my simple mind to understand. Then again, maybe not. Read more

How Sarawak was won

By Dr Ooi Keat Gin

Comments by Sarawak Headhunter in BOLD Italic.

WHEN I first arrived at Kuching airport in May 1983, I was ushered into the row for foreigners at the immigration checkpoint where my Malaysian passport was examined and stamped “Social Visit”, with an expiry date. I felt like an “alien” despite knowing full well that Sarawak was part of the Federation of Malaysia. My feelings of alienness were, however, short-lived, quickly overcome by the friendliness and warmth of the locals I encountered. Read more

Dayak contribution towards Malaysia – Merdeka!

Taken from: Jetty (The Broken Shield)

Our peace and harmony

Whether Malaysia is celebrating its 52nd or 46th anniversary on 31 August (Malaya obtained its independence 31 August 1957 and the federation of Malaysia was formed on 16 September 1963), is irrelevant to the issue that I am going to touch in this article. Nevertheless, during the 52 years or 46 years that Malaysia has been formed, we Malaysians have enjoyed tremendous development, security, peace and harmony. Read more

Land without development is a poverty trap?

Posted by Dyaks

Taib said ” Land without development is a poverty trap”.

Not too sure who laid the trap (by design or coicidence), but that is a convenient trick from Yang Dikasihi.

What about land without title?

Even worse, land without proper titles also a poverty trap (by virtue of NCR lands equates state lands) and basically to trap the Dayaks being hijacked from rightful land ownership which in the end Yang Dikasihi would take it to his cronies under provisional leased plantation schemes. Absolutely dirt cheap almost zero land cost to the plantation cronies. Land piracy couldn’t be much easier than this! Read more

Only Rulers can decide on “Allah” Islamic Council argue

Taken from The Malaysian Insider (By Asrul Hadi Abdullah Sani)

KUALA LUMPUR, August 25 -

DAYAKBARU COMMENT:

I would like to draw Dayakbaru attention to  a paragraph in this article that ” the Agong is the head of Islam for States that do not have a Sultan”.

Extract: The counsel pointed out that the King is also the Head of Islam in states with no rulers such as Malacca, Penang, Sabah and Sarawak. The King’s jurisdiction includes the Federal Territories of Kuala Lumpur, Labuan and Putrajaya.

The implication is that the Governor of Sarawak need not be a MUSLIM. This maybe part the 18 point agreement salient point whereby:

“If the Chief Minister is dayak, then Governor would be a Muslim. Like wise if the Chief minister is a Muslim then the Governor should be a Dayak”.

Our current Governor was a Catholic Christian. He converted but he is a Dayak. We must not have our understanding twisted by Barisan National “Ketuanan Melayu” strategy. The Governor can be a Muslim BUT must be a Dayak and there seemed to be no wrong if the Dayak Governor is not a Muslim when the Chief Minister is a Muslim”.

Now – I stand corrected by those with the expert view. I need to see proof that the Sarawak Governor must be a Muslim. Read more

Rich Sarawak Cronyism means Dayak lose home

Taken from Yoolim Lee (Bloomberg)

Aug. 25 (Bloomberg)

After a stomach-churning takeoff from a 550-meter runway at Long Banga airstrip on the Malaysian side of the island of Borneo, the 19-seat plane soars over a green tropical wilderness. This is one of the world’s last remaining virgin rain forests.

About 30 minutes into the flight to the bustling oil town of Miri, the lush landscape changes, and neatly terraced fields of oil palms take the place of jungle. Twenty years ago, this was forestland. Now, those forests are lost forever. Read more

PAS win in Permatang Pasir – What is BN excuse?

Written by Dr. John Brian Anthony

Result

Pas Mohd Salleh 9,618 and BN 5,067. PAS candidate stood and lost 6 times before this. The 7th time he contested the might of Pakatan Rakyat swept him to victory.

Some reflection on by -election.

PAKATAN RAKYAT whether represented by PAS, PKR or even DAP has won every by-election in West Malaysia. It even come to a point the BN “surrender” the contest citing dubious reasons trying to shed bad image on PR. BN efffort to sabotage the by-election failed miserably. Read more

Post Taib Era… How prepared are we for a change?

Written by Iban Baru

Happy to see Taib retire

So much have been said about the misdeed of current state government. Much anticipation and speculation have been made about the Chief Minister’s state of health vis-à-vis his stepping down from power. By and large, I think most Sarawakian (Dayak included) are naturally joyful should Taib decided to vacate his throne one day.

Let us examine our preparedness

The big question remains, will there be drastic change should Taib decided to step down in near future? In our context, despite the frustration and resentment against Taib and his co-hoot, lets examine our selves from our contemporary political standing, economic disadvantage & social status point of view. RETURN NCR LANDS AND FORESTS TO THE PENANS !

Written by YB DOMINIQUE NG

RETURN NCR LANDS AND FORESTS TO THE PENANS !

The Ancestral or NCR lands and forests of our Penan people must be returned to them, says YB Dominique Ng, the ADUN for Padungan. He further calls upon the State government to immediately instruct logging and plantation companies concerned to stop logging in the Baram District and to pull out completely. He says that the forests of Baram have been the habitat of our Penan compatriots for centuries, and no one has the right to usurp their rights over their NCR inheritance. Read more

DB Forum – or on line discussion?

Written by Dr. John Brian Anthony

Maybe it is time we start to summarize by category eg. NCR Land Development, Dayak Political Leadership etc all the ideas that has been contributed to Dayakbaru weblog.

I will propose a weekend ( Sat / Sun)  where we all sit in front of our computer and do an online discussion. The logistics can be arranged. In this way, we will not need to leave our comfortable space and incur expenses yet still achieve what we want to do. Read more
