Dayaks have to pull itself up

Dr JBA,

Regretably, there’s more to the IFs in your conclusion – and I think, you know it too.

Multi-racial party has many supporters

Even if the existing non-Dayak backers of PRS/SPDP are forced out, for whatever reasons, the “multi-racial” party constitution will assure limitless supply of replacement backers.

And why not ? It seems a lucrative business to back, and make use of Dayak political support to advance a business plan forward, within “Malaysia Inc” development context.

Non Dayak backers are financiers for Dayak party

Of course, the non-Dayak backers/financiers of Dayak political machinery and the Dayak politicians and their grassroots, are in symbiotic relationship.

And that gave birth to the mutually reenforcing “multi-racial” clause in the constitution, and the semblance of vigorous fights and defences of Dayak causes by some non-Dayak politician like Tiong, Sng and James Wong.

Spending Behaviour

Semblance – even when their personal fortunes are used to get birth certificates and IC for Dayaks, the resource spent is in areas of lesser important and of less consequence to the Dayak. Besides, the principle reminds: what these backers spent, they would get a million times more through govt contracts or via a “nurtured” GLC relationship.

So, its back to square 1 : Dayaks have to pull itself up, using its own bootstrap.

Considering the assertion, that:-

1. The challenge for Dayak people, remains in the forging of cultural identity in the portpouri of tribal lines and then the (re)construction of political causes that cut across the tribes, and social strata – urban/rural, private/public sector, students/professional, 50s/60s/70s/80s/90s generation, overseas/local.

2. Although the causes and issues are many : I believe when studied properly, all of them would tend to pile up on the Dayak plate. For that reason, I would postphone or defer the notion of “going for broke” for a multi-racial party, in favor of a “truly” Dayak only political party.

3. Iban Abroad had said it so well about the need to be realistic but persistent in the struggle for justice, progress, equality, freedom – and CA had also put it across so clearly on the dichotomy betwen urban/rural perspectives or wants/needs.

PRS/SPDP Merger

Therefore – IF the PRS/SPDP “improbable” merger were to occur, it would not be a cause for celebration – in the same manner that the split of PBDS weren’t a cause for dismay. Same mo, same mo.

If the merged political party, were to remain stupefyingly silent on NCR land, and Dayak poverty, then what good is that party to the Dayak ? The prognosis of a 100% Dayak-based party but led by the same leaderships, who will perhaps play the same game with Dayak future, does not yet signify that change is lurking around the corner.

DB Role

DB is helping to look for the bootstrap. Its painfully slow. But who knows, the collective effort may yield breakthrough from the interplay of ideas from the many postings of fellow Dayak and sympathetic non-Dayak.

With future randau, and release of Tinting Tinjau, DB will have graduated to a formal club for good. The thought makes me hopeful-on this nice Sunday afternoon !
