Dayak must not tolerate frog politician
Posted by Meramat Tajak
Pistol Pete, Telaga Kumang,
I have to disagree. There are logical flaws in the arguments that you both advance on the above
1) To equate the decision of a political frog to that of a strategically-astute general is a fallacy by false comparison.
A general may issue a tactical retreat but is remain focussed to win the battle. A political frog who jump, presumably so that his constituency will continue to get BN development and gratuity, is forever perpetuating the evil rule by Pavlov’s Experiment.
Further, by virtue – in most cases, of the politician frog himself – enjoying the fruits of his action (say, political survival if you will), he would be in no way making any sacrifice for the greater good of his constituency – as your argument, would imply. (In fact, he himself would become the proverbial Pavlov’s dog, salivating for more development – even when continuous dwindling substitute of real development is shoved in front of his face).
2) From the point of the constituency, it is a fallacy, to argue that the decision of a political frog would really have major impact on the total physical and social development of the area. In the case of the MRP of some RM 350K per term, and if the constituency has 35 longhouses, the RM10K per longhouse, over 4 years – is equal to just about RM 2.5K per year. The decision is in no way as altruistic or strategic, as a general’s decision to retreat, so his soldiers lives can be spared and not sacrifice for foolish reasons.
3) From the argument that the frog politician is simply acting his primordial urges in a Darwinian theater of the survival of the fittest, I have to say that modernity gave birth to democracy, precisely so that human evolution is no longer dictate and defined by the need for survival.
4)Its slow to become the norm, especially in Sarawak – but it is coming, that constituencies would wag for MRP and bark, at the slightest indications of its absence. Even in the most backward constituencies, in all likelihood, a small minorities would develope the presence of mind, to demand social justice, and not easily satiated by paltry election give-aways. In this case, a political frog decision would be equivalent to betraying the small forces for good when a principled politician should nurture it. In logical fallacy talk, this to state a constituency as a single homogenous unit, when in fact, a constituency would be more heterogenous.
Besides the 4 fallacies, now lets look at the phrase “if you can’t fight them, join them” from other angles.
“if you can’t fight them, join them”
If a politician should leave a political party, out of irreconcilable difference of philosophy and principles with the party, then that only serve to define the politician as someone who has a definite political cause, especially if there is no covert/overt material benefit to the politician from the move.
Better to be an honest politician than to continue live a lie. I would imagine an intellectually honest Dayak politician must surely be living a lie themselves, for I cannot imagine they can be oblivious to the Dayak plight in the NCR land issue (200 plus lawsuit is the tip of the iceberg).
Dayak politician should have absolute integrity
As for an honest Opposition politician, who refuse to jump even when he is squeezed (withdrawing of loans etc – does happen!); he would be making the ultimate sacrifice – far more than his constituency’s lost of MRP. I have sympathy for any politicians, caught in that position. But thats the stuff that we expect our Dayak politician to have – absolute integrity.
The riddle of the flesh is stronger than steel, is most apt in this picture: and politicians as leaders, have the responsibility to blaze the trail – leadership by example – and to sacrifice for the community .
Do not tolerate frog politicians
Once the Dayak community learn not to tolerate frog politicians, then the community itself would have learned what it mean to be stronger than steel, even when the community is dirt poor – and as materially weak as flesh (and not getting any piece of the goodies). That will be the beginning of real political awakening.
Until then: don’t be apologist for political frogs; spear and chase them off to political swamps instead !

Frog Politician are hopeless and useless.
They are the greedy people in this world to have the oportunity for themself lying to their voters and his comunitiy had support him.
See our Kuncit Beragum principle. He cannot stand the hardship of his political career with PKR and jump like a frog so he can get pamper from people to fulfil his own strategy. He’s not a man to fight for our dayak people to me he’s more or least like our Dayak Yb with our state BN.
I still salute Cobbold John still stand for his princile to support Dayak eventhought he had lost many time in our last election. Keep it up bro to work with DB.
Change We Must.
Sure. Don’t tolerate FROG POLITICIAN. But you forgot one thing, FROG POLITICIAN IS THE RESULT OF DAYAK FROG ELECTORATE. Dayak Politicians who are frogs are no different from Dayak Voters who are frogs. The only difference between the two is the amount paid out, Dayak voters who are frogs enjoy palak babi and bia, but Dayak politicians who are frogs anyway, enjoy millions of ringgit.
Frog politics is not called frog politics. It is actually called Monkey Politics. Feed the Monkey some bananas and he will do anything for you.
I really2 have no respect for people like this (frog politician) because when they change aside, the play with voters vote and trust. It is very shameful act. We heard about this only in malaysia, but if this happen in another country, maybe this politican already lost his head.
I have to repeat one simple thing here……
“Rakyat Still Vote For Them(Frog Politicians)”
Yes sir, I think we are zeroing to the real issue here – instead of BN vs PR argument. It boils down to the representatives – do they take their office on the principle of service or the office is just a mean to an end?
Dayak Baru had said before that we must vote in representatives who have proven themselves in their career and personal lives.
1. If we vote in beggars, we get beggars-mentality representatives.
2. If we vote in weaklings, we have subsidy-mentality representatives.
3. If we vote in bumbling fools, we deserve what we get.
4. But reps of principle don’t last long!!
Many issues we have here is not because of BN or PR – PR existed only 10 years ago. The marginalisation of Dayaks existed before PR.
This persisted because our rep can’t seem to acknowledge them – and we continue to rely on the same non-functional reps. It is just that – not because it’s BN or PR.
How many of our reps are actually passed their expired dates? How many Ming Court experts are still “serving” as reps? That’s what we get.
Frog politician tu enda olih diseliah ka bala kita DB tu, suba maioh bala kita ari PBDS masuk PRS, diatu ka masuk PKR, agi frog meh nama ia. Semina Jabu aja ke ukai Frog. Jabu nya meh Dayak Iban tulen, bujang berani, mati idup sigi enda lari lalu enda ngalah ngapa.
Semua kita tu dalam DB ka ngiga olih magang, ka megai perintah, megai duit rayat. Diatu laban kita bedau bisi kuasa madu enda bejako ka pasal rakyat laban kita ka ka undi sida. Uji enti kita udah bisi kuasa, baka sida menteri bukainya meh kita, baka sempama jako iban ” Baka indu kena gau utai, enda bemunyi magang” laban ngenat ka penyamai.
Pemanah Frog tu enti kitai ari parti perintah, anak kita ke pandai sekula senang bolih kerja. Sama magang polisi dalam dunya tu DB, baka America sapa ke ka enggau ia beperang ngelaban orang dikumbai sekutu ia magang, sigi ditulong. Sama meh dalam politik, enti ngelaban bakani ka nulung.
Enti Dr.John ngubah blog tu nyukung perintah, engka diberi pangkat senator ia. Enti ia nyadi senator enda ka nyamai agi ia nulong rakyat ari ke ari luar. Fuck off about clean money, clean politics they are all bullshit, i repeat bullshit, there is no such things when you talk about politics. The nature of politics about bringing down each other, power struggle and why in the world you still talking about clean things. All the good things that you said are all cosmetic. Kala kita meda indu telanjing ke bajik, antu sida tu taja ari luar sida bajik.
Very few leaders are dedicated to SERVE the voters, most are there unprepared. These leaders have no planning and did not preplanned for the job.
That could be the reason why some are seen yawning in the Dewan. They expect to be guided and in the end got MISGUIDED themselves.
Obviously there some who are scared to utter anything despite knowing the problems because they are scared of the BOSS.
I agree with ES that those ‘non-functional’ ones be redundant.
Sir..
I see your point of view..
Classical Conditioning from the Political point of view..
First of all, to all the Kabans, sorry for opening this can of worms. But if you have been following the discussion you would find that we are actually leading to a very good discussion. Slowly but surely we are coming to the root.
Modern Iban Prototype No 1 – Your comment, crude as it is, has a tinge of truth.
Taju Remaung – Good statement. Now the question is why still vote for these “frogs”
Empelesik Sungai – You have just won the grand prize. Well…basically you have just “stolen” my summary. Hahahaha…but its ok. I am glad. I thought I was the only one who was thinking from this angle.
Meramat Tajak – I value your ideas and inputs. And no, I am not some poisonous snake trying to poison people’s mind. More like devil’s advocate.
Based on your reply, i’d have to say you are an Idealist. Well, I am a Realist. I am not saying your ideals are wrong. They are good solid ideals. I have those same ideals and principles. Integrity also thrown into the mix. All politicians should have these as a pre-requisite.
Meramat Tajak, you talk of Dayak politicians must have absolute integrity and to the extent of moving parties by stating that “If a politician should leave a political party, out of irreconcilable difference of philosophy and principles with the party, then that only serve to define the politician as someone who has a definite political cause, especially if there is no covert/overt material benefit to the politician from the move.”
But we still will call them a frog? Anak Katibas seems to think so. It does not matter whether a politician has the best intentions and the best plans for his kawasan. The moment he jumps party, he is a frog! Tell me that is not true. Whether he keeps nothing for himself or he keeps everything alias Gramong Juna, he is still a frog.
The problem with us is we are quick to judge. We are so used to jumping to conclusion that when we hear BULL, we automatically think SHIT. I would like to give my reps a chance to prove themselves. If they do not perform, I would not think twice about voting them out. It does not matter that my rep is a rolling stone (not the band), as long as he has his kawasan’s best interest at heart.
Furthermore, Meramat Tajak, how can you say say that the ideals of 1 person take precendence over the rest? Does my rep know how I feel? He does not stay in my house or sometimes not even in the same area? How does he know what’s it like to live hand to mouth? For the rural YB’s, how many days a year do they stay in their kawasan? Besides attending the normal functions i.e PTA, Hari Sukan, hand-out MRP, funerals, ngiling tikai and so on.
So please. Don’t bring up this argument about flesh is stronger than steel. I would bet on my Parang Ilang any day (realistically speaking of course).
Which brings me back to Empelesik Sungai’s posting. Now he is a realist. Rather than fight over whether PR is better than BN and vice versa, we should be looking at the candidate. BN is not a bad vehicle, its the driver. PR is also not a bad vehicle, but since its still relatively new, still got some nuts and bolts to sort out.
And to answer Empelesik Sungai and Taju Remaung, the answer is UNITY. That is why we have expired politicians, that is why we have politicians who do not work for us (rather we work for them) and that is why our CM is still Pehin Taib Mahmud. Yes, we can complain the playing field is not level, the rules have changed and sometimes even they move the goal post but in the end if we have UNITY, it does not matter.
Cobbold John can put all his hard earned money to pay for his expenses every election year but when a candidate does not look at the bigger picture and take the necessary steps to not have a 3 way fight and rally his supporters to vote for others then it defeats the purpose if trying to change. In football, not everyone can be a Striker. Sometimes you got to be the reserves but how many of us got the humility? Judging from the PR Sarawak seat allocation, it seems everyone want to be candidate. Mau jadi candidate tapi sik mau guna duit sendiri. Service centre pun sikda. Visit kawasan to do public relations pun sik mauk. Tunggu parti merik duit. Parti merik RM 200,000, bini simpan RM 150,000. Nak kalak medak duit baka nyak. Kalah nadai hal. Asal bisik duit. Ulih meli kerata baru. Ni ulih menang ngenak RM 50,000. Diesel kenak sidaknya dah RM 100,000. Poster color is RM8 for size A3. This is a true conversation. Will not say who but this is what is happening. I say it again….EVERYONE HAS A PRICE. I know this as I am a realist.
P.S How many economist out there is a Managing Director? Talk the talk yes but can we walk the walk?
Get rid of political frogs once and for all.
In Perak, Pakatan Rakyat was beaten in the defection game leading to the collapse of 10-month old Pakatan Rakyat government when the three PKR state assemblymen deserted their parties to be independents friendly to Barisan Nasional.
The same events occurred in Sabah in 1994. At that time, PBS held a slim majority – 25 seats to BN`s 23 after the state election. However, barely three weeks after being returned to power, three PBS assemblymen bailed out to join UMNO,thus led to the downfall of PBS government.
This political fiasco prompted some politicians and individuals both from the government and the opposition suggesting for constitutional amendment to allow the passing of anti-hopping laws. Sabah had approved an anti-hopping law in 1986 but the Federal Court later ruled it unconstitutional as it breached Article 10 of the Federal Constitution – freedom to form association.
To me, if any MP or state assemblyman want to quit his party, he or she should resign his position and return the power to the constituents.
Most importantly, a party must do some checking on the person`s background before he is finally nominated to contest in election and not simply accept any Tom, Dick and Harry.
YB joseph kitingan mencadangkan undang2 lompat party harus….digubal bg mengelakan frog2 ni…
tp x dipedulukan….,reti ya urg agi ragu2 ka
sapa x nemu duai semadi…urg kering ngelaban serta minta perkara 20 ditunaikan….
Dayaklama,
It’s up to you to praise jabu. What jabu contribute to dayak?. Jabu done nothing. Just Establish SALCRA to rob dayak NCR Land. That is true there are no clean in politics but at least for once think about Rakyat and not about owns pocket. Maybe u should learn more about politics. It is clearly stated in form three history textbook.
Stupid monkeys voted for stupid frogs- All are stupid and become stupid.
DL, Jabu anat iban dayak tulin, tang semua uchu Jabu ukai BUMIPUTRA agi laban anak Jabu nadai jadi ke bansa iban agi- sorry out of topic tang laban prkara tu maioh disebut surat kabar sari dua tu.
Frog politician:
Dayak voters must reject frog YB/politician. Many voters follow their YB anywhere, jumping here and there but now I think Dayak is a bit mature in politik so not many follow GA to form a new party . I hope you won’t be decieved by GA tons of money infront of you and make you jump too. AD followers still follow him jumping here and there maybe waiting for the post Penghulu/Pemanca etc. Now hopers who jump with GJ has become a Pemanca. What can such position do to our NCR land, you see two of our Penghulus will go to court because of NCR claim. Even JJM Land Minister cannot do anything. So Dayak must change all the present useless YBs. Elected new who are not in the Bee End.
Politician sigi bakanya profession sida iya…”lompat si katak lompat”…
Enda alah sepiak tu lompat meh ngagai sepiak nyin…rakyat nyau ditinggal nyau pelik-pelik leka mata….
Aku labang utai urang meh ba pengawa politik sigi rindu meda telatah sida bala YBs….

Emplesik Sungai,and Pistol Pete:
Lets put it this way: I think there are many principled politicians out there. Frogs are the minorities. So lets not paint the picture, that it is the norm.Still, be wary that it may happen again, and again, in the future. Especially so, if we take on a fatalistic view, that it can’t be stopped.
Brangkilau post reminds me on the context that gave rise to the phrase. Political frogs tend to jump at critical junctures,in political history – which strongly suggest incentive – than disincentive, as the motive. As to whether Gramong Juna is a frog – I think only he, would know the truth.Let him be with his conscience. It makes no difference to go over history.
On Pistol Pete – “ideals of 1 person take precendence over the rest?” Yes,precisely – in the context of a political frog; I have just argued in the posting that the political frog cannot blithely justify his action on account of his understanding that his constituency want him to – for development i.e imposing his own ideals that development take precedence … The burden is on the froggy to explain his action, not only to his constituency but to the public at large.
The bit about Conan’s The Barbarian quote:
“The ‘riddle of steel’: steel is stronger than flesh, but what is stronger than steel?”
“Flesh is stronger! What is the blade compared to the hand which wields it?”
- Is my little attempt to paint the picture that the Dayak community can rise above petty money politics, just by simply digging deeper into their roots and learn from the Dayak own cultural traits of a classic Dayak leader. Integrity, Courage,Bravery, Respect, … These characterisation are stronger than steel.
What does this all mean ? Where does this discussion lead us to ? Questions, questions..
1. Dayak politician with sound principle can perform equally well in BN and in PR ?
True, but in BN – after 46 years, some gains – much loses. That either speak volumes of BN, or the quality of Dayak reps in BN. In PR: too early, to tell. Being the new guy on the block, PR has to differentiate itself from BN. And if BN continue to be handed the votes on the silver platter, don’t expect change -anytime soon. I’ll say, give PR folks a chance – listen to them: what is there to lose ? If they jerk Dayak around, get rid of them.
2. Of Dayak UNITY – or lack thereof: this has been discussed many times before. Revisiting it again, I would say as much:
History has shown us, people unite for a purpose, which is much bigger than the individual. But in the case, of politics, the Dayak political purpose remains incoherent, immature, short-sighted,fulfil Abraham Maslow’s lowest hierarchy of needs only etc etc (I know I would be called elitist – but have a look around you).
Incidentally -and by way of example, I recall – one reader of DB, June – had exclaimed sooo ecstatically, after it was announced that there is a 2010 Fed budget item for road infrastructure in Kapit, that he was switching to support BN…I think there is many of that political immaturity in the community… The monkey getting his bananas, for a vote … is not far of the mark…
There is hope. For the most part, I believe many DB regulars (Dayak and non-Dayak) belief in a political cause and long term political vision that is in perfect agreement with those of other races who would equally believe in democracy, social justices, equality, and freedom for all. Dr Jeffrey had at least – publicly stated – a supposedly PKR political vision for Malaysia, that would give due justice to Sabah and Sarawak by revisiting the 18/20 Agreement (with his departure, it remains to be seen if it had been PKR or DR Jeffrey’s policy)
So, the point is: Dayak unity – if it continued to be just as elusive as a holy grail, it can be left aside. The 18/20 Agreement has far reaching ramification to Sabah/Sarawak – and would be the hallmark of sincerity by the Peninsular Malaysians (BN or PR) if any of them are willing to give back these rights.Personally, I would park this political cause, in any political party who would be willing to champion it. I don’t give up on Dayak “political unity” but won’t allow it to be a blocker, either.
The days of pining for Dayak Unity, that supposedly would give rise to a genuine Dayak-based party, that in turn, would truly care for the plight of the community … may never come. So I prefer, Unity in political Cause – with anyone, while parking Dayak interest into the plate of causes, by incidence of birth. And incidentally, I sense the same sentiment from many folks in Peninsular (including from PAS and DAP – if anyone has to ask).
A long post, but I have tried to read between the lines, in everyone’s posting to-date, to take stock and then to let it all hang out. (As for DL: I hear you, but isn’t it better to dream and improve the world a little, than to accept the condition as irreversible, and to join “them” in the debauchery of bad politics – as you had readily admitted it ?)
Pala Tekura, you r real dyk. To all voters dont be stupid anymore. Kick out the NCR robbers from this country. If there is no other candidate VS BN candidate, but only monkey VS them we must vote for monkey. Dont truss bn anymore, enought 46 yrs we are suffer. My place still drink ai ujan and no electricity but our gomen busy want to supply electricity to semenanjung even to overseas. Anak kera d beri tusu anak diri empu mati lepi. Agi ga kita nyukung cd bn nya. Enti munyi ko penemu dl nya udah meh kitai tu. Ila2 carut meh menoa tu. Enda olih diseliah agi. Laban nadai utai tuci n jujur. Nya sigi tuju politic cd ia. Nipu rakyat belama ari menya datai k ari tu.
