Dayakbaru comment: Let us ponder on this article

This article put the blame on voters. I beg to differ to a large extent but to a point it is the truth. The rural voters has limited access to information. The source of their information – TV, Radio and newspapers are in favor of BN government with very steep one sided-reporting. Thus, the voters are kept away from the whole truth.

Voters experience

It is when the voters experience “negative impact” or “loss” that they started to seek for more clarification. They will not choose the same source of info as before. Usually they look for person who they think can help them understand their experience. More often then not the clarification they received is almost an opposite of their earlier understanding.

Then the confusion and anxiety come in for this rural folk. I have heard many times that the Tuai Rumah remarked “why is it that all the highly educated people seemed to differ from what the government has been saying”. The Wakil Rakyat responsed is standard ” anang ngira nya nuan – semua sida ke ngumbai diri tinggi sekulanya orang ngelaban perintah semua.Bisi kala nulong kita sida nya?”

The Tuai Rumah thought about it and conclude “amat nya”beacuse his longhouse has been given MRP but his problem is his longhouse NCR is being taken from them to be developed by BIG companies. The government would say “maioh untong ari ladang nya”.

This lead to Dayak voters being put in a difficult situation as their basis of reasoning has been made murky by the YB. I am sure, this has change a lot recently in Kemena. I can attest to that.Money is still important to win election by the way but MIOT SIBAT has proven it need not be so all the time.

The PROBLEM are the Dayak Voters by : Modern Iban Prototype No.1

The problem are the Dayak voters.

That is as clear as Daylight, it is as clear as water streaming past waterfalls.

Bintulu

Let me give you a simple example. Bintulu is one division. In the various wards within the fringes of it’s respective political seats, the Dayaks will happily, take gallons and gallons of Beer, and Barrels of Pork, in exchange for their vote.

Oppression

There is no Ideology being played out here, we are dealing with the oppression caused by the Headmen, the Chiefs, the Overlords and the Paramount Men of each respective area. They are backward. They don’t understand what EVIL is, or if they do, they actively collude with the External Interference, as long as they can profit from it in some way.

Why thank you, one post and it generates a discussion. Well, here is some kasam for the hungry Iban mind. Bintulu is there for the highest bidders, why should it be any different for any Iban Seat in Sarawak. The Dayak Voters are the Political Frogs, The Dayak Middle Men (Tuai Rumah, Pemancha, Temenggung, Orang Kaya, Penghulu, etc) know this very well, and the game for them now, is how to reap the profits before the final day of reckoning. Why should it be any different for Dayak MP’s ???? It is the Dayak as a whole who are not sophisticated enough to know what real Oppression is. They will soon find out, if they are not finding it out already.

It is not the Dayak Politicians who are the Frogs, it is the Dayak Grassroots who are the Frogs. They Bought Frogs, they are bought Monkeys, They have been bought already. It is time now for some Maturity about this.

There is no basis of reasoning here Dr Brian, If I showed up at the door of your Longhouse, with two five ton trucks loaded with Beer, and one truck filled with Pigs, would your Headmen be happy??? That’s before the Men with the Briefcase filled with Money arrives.

That has been the case in all Iban seats, in all Iban areas, in Sarawak for years and years. The Iban electorate, the grassroots are the REAL TRAITORS here. They may smile at you, and they may lead charming peasant lives, but whether they are misguided or guided deliberately, they are aware that they have taken part in a process that has killed off the potential of generations and generations of brave IBAN men and women, and driven the whole Iban race to poverty and despair. They have blood on their hands. And they will continue to practice this type of politics, until they die off, or they have no land to return to.

Oh yes, let me tell you how the solution can be bridged. Sure why not? Apparently, a few take what I write seriously, whereas what I write are BARE KNOWN FACTS already. These are FACTS. KENYATAAN. PROVEN, whether the conditions were controlled or otherwise. The Iban Electorate is a backward, unsophisticated electorate. They do not know what the rules of the game is, or if they do, they are playing it for their short term profit.

What the Iban Voters are doing now is EXPORTING, hunger, lawlessness, poverty, a future without hope to their CHILDREN, their GRANDCHILDREN, and worse of all their GREAT Grandchildren. The Only Children profitting from this IBAN EXPORT are CHINESE CHILDREN, MALAY CHILDREN, AND INDIAN CHILDREN. And this what the Dayak voters are doing now, it is what they did in 1959, in 61 right down to today, and have any Iban benefitted from this voting behaviour????

CHANGE WE MUST involves EVIL. The greatest EVIL must be committed by the IBAN AGAINST THE IBAN. That is being done now by JABU, by MASING, by MAWAN, by all the Iban leaders, right down to the Tuai Rumah. Because all they is their financial self interest, and not their national self interest. That is the difference between the Iban and the Orang Laut.

Tomorrow you will want to be in an Iban Trade Union, In an Iban Political Party, in an Iban Bank Co-operative, in and Iban Land Bank, in an Iban Umbrella Organisation, PROTECTING IBAN INTERESTS, at all COSTS. Tomorrow you will want to be in an IBAN ARMY protecting the IBAN FUTURE on Borneo.

How do you that with Monkey Ibans??? Do you kill the Monkey Ibans with beer and palak babi?? Or do you buy them off before the Stalinist PURGE and REVOLUTION begins???

I cannot see any other way, except to buy the vote now, in one go, and then break down the financial ties with the Enemies before anchoring this on solid Dayak political bedrock.

How can that be done before the influx of Malayans to Sarawak???? The Malayans have already taken your oil and your land, and their CHILDREN is more important than IBAN CHILDREN. Which is it????

I guessed you are idea of bringing changes to present Swk political scenario is still immature and classroom exercise. You are talking like malfunction prototype robot that have been infected by virus.

Winning the political election is not that simple as you thought. Your big brother Dr John knows very well about it. I guessed his bitter experience lost in the last election is still haunting him while sleeping. He only can afford to campaign at his backyard only. I can’t hardly remember whether he could have his deposit reimbursed.

Dr John blog dayakbaru.com served no purpose at all during his last campaign. Even more useless when compared to the school boy drop-out video games. For simple reason DB group didn’t released broadband service is only available in town area only.

With regard to Prototaib idea of eradicating frogs and monkeys in the longhouse is not that simple as what he had said. The moment you called the long people frogs or monkey, they will chase you away immediately and will hate you forever. And therefore no time for Mr Prototaib to speak about his frog and monkey concept of politic. Just too irrelevant and they will not understand it.

Honestly, the longhouse people wanted/needed like in Batang Ai is MONEY, MATERIALS TO REPAIR THEIR HOUSE AND OFF COURSE A BIT OF CAP APEK, CAP JABU AND CAP TAIB. The DB group will not win the coming election if they can’t afford all these important elements.

Calling the voters names is not going to help: neither does the racist card.

Should money and other inducements be used to get votes as per your statement “I cannot see any other way, except to buy the vote now, in one go..”?

Well, it might work … But is that the kind of political culture that DB wants to champion ?
I don’t think so. The Iban would remain a political monkeys, as you are fond of saying.

The early Christian missionaries were able to convert many Ibans to Christianity without any material inducements. And I imagine, it is possible to spread “Introduction to Political Prototype 101″, with the same success through sincerity and sustained effort.

How one would send political missionaries through the Iban political Heart of Darkness, with the same consistency of message as the Christian Bible, would be one of the challenge.

As I see it, money is important to some extent to run an election campaign, but more important is strategy. Don’t lose hope on the Iban votes. Many – may already be more politically aware than you give them credit for. Be the missionary. Be the change agent. Do what is possible and within your means. You may be surprise one day , that the monkeys would walk upright to a notebook, and start blogging something intelligible and for the first time ever, may vote in ways, that would forever humble the banana kings !

This is not about PKR. This is not about DAP. It is not about PBB, SUPP, UMNO and any other Political Party. This is about back to basics fundamentalism. How can the Ibans, protect and promote their national self interest??? How do the Dayak protect and promote and further their political, economic and military interests???

It is as BASIC as that. In there lies two things. Our SURVIVAL and our DEATH. These are two certain factors. To ensure Iban and Dayak political survival in 1Malaysia and Indonesia Merahputih, we must start killing the IBAN VOTERS. We must show these Ibans what real killing is. When the LONGHOUSE is bulldozed, don’t show your support to the Monkeys. When the scholarship is denied, don’t show any sympathy. Let them feel the pain for what they did to generations and generations of brilliant Iban Men and Women.

I deliberately mention Joseph Conrad Heart of Darkness, and the philosophy of the Whiteman Burden which had simultaneously set in motion, colonisation and the Christian missionaries, just so you get some parallels – and remain optimistic at feasibility of change in the Iban rural heartland.

The rural Iban still has a long way to go, in respect of understanding the political environment around them. We all know that. And we also know the Iban voters have been subjected to psychological manipulation: reward for loyalty, punishment for straying off course. In a closed longhouse where individual freedoms of thought will not be tolerated, it would only take the pyschological manipulation of the Pemancha downward to the Tuai Rumah, to secure lifetime political loyalty of the individual voters.

I believe Dr JBA posting on the system of political patronage is already very lucid.
But to add a few more interesting footnotes.

First, is the typical longhouse sense of belonging. Unlike the Chinese, Malays or Indians, the Iban do not think and act politically – along race/tribal line. A rural Iban sense of kinship is with those living in the same longhouse, or with those in the same riverine system. In another word, a typical Iban voter at a Rumah Iban, from Sungai Layar, will have no sense of sharing the same political destiny with the Ibans from Kemena.Remember: the origin of the word Iban – means human being (mensia).

Second, compare with the Chinese: while the Ibans share some features of ancestor worship, their lifetime plan is not as long, down the line of descendants as those of the Chinese.Think of it this way. The one Chinese chap who came to Sibu, many generations ago, had worked his ass off – taping rubber and planting vegetables, and then selling trinkets along the Rajang river, using his tongkang, MOTIVATED, not just for his lifetime – but for those many generations after him. He would be doing that to follow in the footsteps of the family patriarch before him. By comparison, Iban voters are very short term thinkers. And the subsequent lost of ancestral worship to Christianity, has gradually in itself,cause many Iban youths to lose respect for old aki – the lost of patriarchal emblem. Leading to a state, where many rural Iban had become short term dreamers. Take what comes each day – Carp diem, if you will. Drink as much as possible, as the opportunity do not come every day. Take the RM50 vote: why bother to think ? The future ? No, buy the lucky 4D. Complete nihilism – that would make Kierkegaard proud.

I grant you that it looks bleak when many Iban voters, especially in rural longhouse, does not seem to be able to develop political maturity after all these years.Political party aside, the phrase “Anang Ngelaban Perintah”, is as symptomatic of the retarded political thinking as anyone can imagine. Many of the voters would still equate the Civil Service as the perintah, and would of course, not want to lose these institutions!

A final thought, if it helps: lets consider it the generational burden of your “brilliant Iban men and women” to bring so many of the rural Iban voters, who are still in Conrad’s Heart of Darkness, to enlightenment.Forgive/forget. Afterall, if the voters action had been a betrayal in the past, it was because they did not know any better.

Dayaks voters goes to highest bidder? Frankly that should be the case. A least they got price and it work well for BN since they have unlimited amount of fund to pay the Dayaks voters.

That’s the reason I have been saying that PR being a poor party will not be able to make a break through in the forthcoming state election. So why should the Dayaks voters associate themselve with the party that want free votes?

You are so frustrated because you lost the election? You need to do much harder to win the Iban heart as they are very wise now. It’s not just Cap Apek, Chivas Regal and your pala babi that let them vote for you, but much2 more than that. You need to bring development, remember the words ” seeing is believing “. BN when they talk about road, you will see bulldozer, crusher run, 10 ton trucks loaded with boulder around. This we call cakap not kosong.
You doing the campaign talking about making new format of gomen, to start all over again like we just obtain independence. Who believe in the so called reform, a new formula to cheat the people? The BN gomen use the most acceptable formula now, why is that need to be change?
So next time bring as much goodies and development when you want the Iban votes, don’t just talked and wasted your saliva. Remember that the time for those Ibans that listened to your talk must be compensated, so was it wrong to give them money? You know ketuanan rakyat? I am not interested in the explanation on why the rural backward Iban votes as they do, each time, everytime for the last 40 years. I am already AWARE of why that is and the circumstances that gave in to this desperate situation. I am telling you, that it is their stranglehold on IBAN POLITICS, which is KILLING ALL OF US.

For Example, When the Malaysia Agreement was penned, we sent an illiterate, backwards, uncivilized, uncouth, CIRCUS clown to London. And compare that CLOWN to Tunku Abdul Rahman, one was regarded as a Monkey, the other was a product of ruling class Cambridge, and unfettered Malay royalty. CAN YOU NOW SEE WHAT I AM TELLING YOU??????

These IBANS are KILLING YOU, ARE KILLING ME, ARE KILLING THEMSELVES. We cannot put any faith in them whatsoever, on changing their reasoning, their mode of thinking, their approach to voting; their complete way of life – because it is their complete DISREGARD, be it the result of ignorance, of stupidity, the lack of understanding, or just plain uncivilized, that they cannot or do not want to understand WHEN THE PARANG HELD BY THE HANDS OF THEIR ENEMY IS KILLING THEIR CHILDREN. As I said before, these Ibans are EXPORTING hunger, oppression, pain, landlessness, degradation, destitution to the generations that will come after them, and yet you see them MONKEYING around, thinking that politics is nothing but a big joke, a game that people play. The FAULT lies in the Iban voter. It is our RESPONSIBLITY, our MORAL RIGHT to PROTECT IBAN INTERESTS, AND THAT BEGINS WITH CHANGING OUR MINDS AND OUR APPROACH. And you know what that means, the IBAN VOTERS who betrayed all the Ibans, should be punished, and they should be stripped of all their lands, and they should be made to suffer hunger, destitution and degradation, until they LEARN that behaving like a MONKEY has consequences.

It is pretty damn USELESS to talk about a better tomorrow. You can lead a Horse to water but you can’t make the animal drink it. It is time now, nay, it is already overdue, to hit the IBAN HARD with the death blow. Only that way, will the Iban abandon their MONKEY ways, and take politics more seriously.

To me the Iban Rural Voter is the traitor, is the murderer, is the cynical asasssin of many, many brilliant Iban Men and Women, who perished, and saw their chances in life destroyed, by the one eyed FOOL who thought nothing more or less about supporting and licking his ENEMY’s FEET.

You PONDER THAT Meramat Tajak, and you ask yourself tonight, should I let the Chinese and Malays continue to persecute the Iban??? Or better, ask yourself this question, who is really persecuting the IBANS???

I won’t be drawn into the same disdain as you have. Not that I don’t agree with your observation. You are quite spot on, in many aspects.

But to throw in the towel, and leave the rural Ibans to their own device, and to stop writing about the injustice of NCR land grab; or to turn around in the extreme direction and even partake in the grab itself – so the Iban may finally learn ?

You have to pardon my expression – but I think thats absurd. No good will ever come out of such action.In fact, such action would play nicely into the kind of pyschological warfare that a famous Japanese spy, Matahari had purportedly waged on the American forces in the Pacific, in WW II. I think you know what I mean, without digression.

From another angle, the rural Iban voters can just as well be disdainful and mistrusting of their better educated and well fed brethrens from the town. Equally, they can have good reasons to be wary. Not many towns people who would come to court the rural Iban, visiting the longhouse and eat the food, and drink the tuak, are sincere. Many would come making “friendly visit” (nemuai) to the longhouses as pretext, for their personal gain – especially nearer election time.(Even the early Chinese and Malay traders would take advantage of the kindness and unsuspecting Iban, and sold them goods at ludicrously exorbitant prices, with a straight smile, but thats just a colorful history of commerce)

At any rate, as much as I rather have you as an ally,to contribute ideas and so on, and so forth, you seem set in your conviction that the rural Iban voter is the real enemy, I propose we agree to disagree.

Hey, we live in a democracy. Everyone is entitled to their own opinions. I am not seeking to convert you or anyone else to my beliefs anyway, whether it is absurd or just plain solid. But I acknowledge that there is a very serious split now between the rural and urban Iban voters.

Much political awakening is already happening in the minds quite noticable esp. those among us continue to participate in this “Randau alam blog Dayakbaru tu.” This is good & could never happen before. Frank comments about Iban current political reality is of great value.

How is this possible?

EDUCATION:
Bloggers certainly are more educated and education has made you think differently than the longhouse Ibans. This is our focus area — speak and fight for people like Marina. While at that, let us direct our influence to the younger & better educated Ibans.

LONGHOUSE IBANS:
Are locked-frozen in their narrow circle filled with ignorance. Any surprise they’re ever easily influenced, manipulated & threatened by BN dogs — The TRs, Penghulus, Pemancas, YBs, Political Secs & cronies!

MAKAI GAJI:
Tuai Rumah, Penghulu, Pemanca, Pengarah, Temenggung are appointed & BN payroll. How can we expect them to fight BN? Burit Tai Marmut bau rengut!

NGANTI SIDA PARAI:
Enda maioh agi bala pengundi ke tau dibeli. Time will help — perhaps after their passing their votes will no longer count. Cruel but true. You can’t teach old dog new trick

Fellow Dayakbaru, Please continue to discuss & share informations — not just among us. But let us speak-out everywhere we go to all our folks back home — di rumah panjai, langkau umai, di kedai, alam bas, bilun, perau,alam surat, alam telefon, SMS — pagi, tengah ari, lemai, sing engau malam …. Anang badu, anang takut, anang malu, anang lembau. Padah ke bala, apai indai, aya ibu, tuai biak, kita serumah, kita seupis, kita semenua … Enti nganti maia kempen udah laun wai!

If christian missionaries can convince us about heaven which they themselves have not seen then we should be able to convince our Iban country men about thei own reality — robbed & stripped of their lands, their rights…….forever!
