Why Confederation and not a Federation?
The only Federation in Malaysia is the Federated Malay States that made up West Malaysia.
Malaysia was formed by 4 sovereign countries: Malaya, Singapore, Sabah and Sarawak. When Singapore pull away within the time frame allowable Malaysia is left with three countries. I am not sure whether the agreement to form Malaysia is valid as one of the member has pulled out of the agreement.
Whatever – Sabah, Sarawak and Malaya formed Malaysia. A Confederation is an entity formed through the assimilation and created by many sovereign countries.
What actually went wrong from the beginning?
I am a strong believer that our founding fathers from Sarawak did the correct thing by forming Malaysia. It is a ground breaking thinking. The founding fathers however has some reservation – knowing very wellthat West Malaysia is much more well developed then Sarawak they put forward some conditions or rules that must be observed.
That 18 points agreement is a reality – but do not be surprise that it is hard to find beacuse they are Organization and People who never wanted it to resurface.
Actually talking about it can be sensitive matter to the government. What the heck! It is affecting me now.
Putra Jaya is controlling Sarawak.
This is a statement of fact, not politiking. Before the formation of Malaysia, Sarawak is a country of its own. With its own money, stamp, government – a sovereign Country. We must therefor be equal to Malaya.
Are we equal to Malaya today?
No we are not equal. We can never be the Prime Minister. Even black in the US can become President. Who control our resources ( Oil and Gas) and our money?
You know that is why the Federal government is so arrogant with Sarawak. Sarawak must put in a “request” to the Ministry of Finance for budget and money. The problem we have today is – we are not master of our own finance. No matter which government is to rule Sarawak – it must bow down to Federal government. We Sarawakian are colonised by West Malaysia.
Barisan National and Pakatan Rakyat
Yes – it is the same thing. If PR win the Federal government, it is the same as BN set up now. Sarawak will need to “bow” their head to Federal government because we are colonized by West Malaysia.
Is this the dream and vision of our founding father – i do not think so. This is the political game of UMNO who created BN to control and colonized Sarawak.
The Dayak control of Sarawak initially is a misfit for UMNO. Thus Rahman and Taib was roped in to Malaynize Sarawak. The effort is on going now.

I do not think that many in Party KeAdilan is aware of the facts I had just written. Therefor it is important for PKR Sarawak to get PKR West Malaysia to have a written agreement to give sarawak more autonomy through revisiting the 18 points agreement and state down the mechanism of implementation and monitoring.
I want Sarawak and Sabah and Malaya to step back into the past and set the intention of forming Malaysia right. Give Sarawk and Sabah their rights to rule. A nation within a nation of Malaysia.
What we should do?
In BN, this is a NO – NO. Our hope is PKR. If PKR cannot commit to such demand – we Sarawakian must then set our own initiative to allow us to set our own rule. Meaning, we may have to create a 3rd force political party in Sarawak, Sabah and West Malaysia.
The 3rd force must agree that the agreement of forming Malaysia must be the basis of the party struggle. That would allow Sabah and Sarawak more free hand to manage itself.
Sabah under UMNO is a real crab. Everything is ketuanan Melayu in Sabah. At least Sarawak is still free from such “dirts” but we have to swollow not a small amount of dirts from “Taib and BN” taking advantage of their position and rob us in broad daylight of our wealth.
5 Chief Ministers for Sarawak
We should ask for Sarawak to be divided into 5 more states – each State having a Chief Minister. The States are :kuching, Sibu, Bintulu, Miri and Limbang. The top post in Sarawak will belong to a Deputy Prime Minister elected by Sarawakian in a direct election. Why not?
In this way, we will have more man power to manage the country ad we can hace micro-management of development project and our natural resources.
Conclusion
These are initial thought because our future lies in the different approach we take in order to bring it to new height BUT not through the current colonization by Malaysia approach.
Are WE any lesser then to West Malaysia in our rights to govern ourselves?
Change WE must.

No disrespect Dr. J Brian— but when you come out with an idea that Sarawak be divided into 5 different states with 5 Chief Ministers, DPM be elected by Sarawakian– you must be either joking or not your normal self or out of your mind.
It may be done purposely to appease your supporters in Kemena but there again are you sure your strategy will not backfire or will the voters in Kemena buy it. OR are you throwing the towel after Dr. Stephen Rundi’s appointment as Ass. Ministers. Remember no malice on my part.
you talk of 18 points agreement (pre-Malaysia)is good. The bad of it is that the control over Sarawak and its people is almost complete. No Dayak leader would want to burn their bridges! And I agree a change in government would not be able to do much, short of a revolution not very much could be achieved. Anyway I believe a change in government perhaps can allow such discussion to flourish and over time, who knows our West malaysiian brothers would agree to accomodate our views. The trouble is talking openly on this subject one could be branded as anti this or that. For that reason peoples don’t dare talk about it. We have to admit the fact that democracy in Malaysia is unlike that in the UK or USA. So where in US Obama can dream dreams, Sarawakian can at best dream of the impossible. The Batang Ai by-election must not be forgotten. Remember it too: the GE is coming and BN will apply all means including money money and money to retain power. So where can we dream when we don’t have money? Talking of corruption which could perhaps cause people to restrain themselves on the use of money to win votes, I have great doubt this threat will work. Looking around the method of application of law that can deter people from openly abuse power and position one can only but despair. Anyway good to talk about this, ugal.

Is the 18-point agreement still an official secret document?
The colonial headquarters was moved from London to Kuala Lumpur and now to Putrajaya after Sarawak joined Malaya and Sabah forming Malaysia. Demage were already done and for the betterment of Sarawak and Sabah, we have to kick out BN and replace the Federal govt with PR. Then we negotiate with PR and get them to recognise Sarawak and Sabah as ‘partners’ of Malaya and never treat us like any of the other malay states in W Malaysia. Should PR comes to power, petroleum act 1974 can always be amended in our favour. Instead of recieving a mere 5% wang ehsan as what Najb mentioned in parliament lately, we MUST request a higher amount to develope the states to be on or almost on par with states like Selangor or Penang.

Sarawak is the ‘Place Like No Other’. There is no need to create such 5 new states. It is enough to have divisions only in Sarawak. 5 Chief Ministers also over crowded, if there is like now, self agenda in their politic, which for their own purpose only. The change of government also not will benefit much to the people of Sarawak, Dayaks, especially, if our new government is Pakatan Rakyat or whatever party base from Malaya. Now we must learn the history of our state, once before there was ‘The Kingdom Of Sarawak’ in Borneo. Now we are just The State of Sarawak, The State of Sabah. But until now there is The Sultanate Islamic Kingdom Of Brunei Darussalam only in Borneo. Most of our people just the slaves of our Federation. The evidence; our people went to Malaya, because there were much much and most jobs there compare in Sarawak. Most of people from Malaya came here to work and sit at the top positions of our civil departments and economical value for federal department and companies. To Sarawakians, don’t forget federal policies: ‘No racist, No religous separatist’. And now study about UMNO’s Federal Gov Giant. They are Racist, and Religous-mania. You must have had some strange thoughts to say the least. I am not going to comment on the background to this recent entry, suffice to say that it is all in the History books, and if someone is keen enough, they should be able to identify key moments why and when Sarawak, agreed to form a new country with Singapore, British North Borneo and the Federation of Malaya. We could revisit this question again and again, but really, I think we should all stop now and ask this instead, exactly how much history do we know and understand? Not much judging by the quality of questions asked, and worse if I may consider the quality of education in Malaysia today, if it’s youth are this ignorant about their history or have pertinent questions in mind, that the textbooks simply cannot satisty or fail to provide.
First, are we any lesser to West Malaysia in our rights to govern ourselves?
Moderately interesting in so far a coalition of political parties in Malaysia are elected democratically by the people, to govern in their name, for the people. The underlying criticism here is, do we like our present political arrangement, vis a vis the Barisan Nasional? And now contrast that question, with the results if Sarawak’s last 5 State elections, Malaysia’s general elections, and most will get the idea that Sarawakians are indeed happy with their government and the government’s policies. That would be the assertion.
Otherwise the present political compact between the Sarawak BN and the National BN (Malayan Central BN) is in fact, the thorny issue here. The 1974 Petroleum Act could be reproduced in anyway, and used here again and again, but maybe you should say that Malayans should be grateful to Sarawakians for the Oil and Gas they took and received so very generously. And in a nutshell, you can say that if it wasn’t for our Oil and Gas, Malaya would remain a backward, poorly developed economy that it was then, in 1957 to the early 60s. So it is not a case that Sarawakians should be grateful to the Malayan Monkeys for development but rather the Malayan Monkeys should be grateful to Sarawak for their “development”.
Dividing Sarawak into 5 more States
Totally unacceptable, even from you Dr Brian. In fact, where do you get these ideas from? Sarawak with it’s great HISTORY, is as divine and as unified as one land amongst others, in this nation of ours. Sarawak was expanded by the Brooke Raj, to the detriment of the Brunei, Sambas and Pontianak Sultanates. Sarawak was forged by our blood, sweat and tears, and here you are, saying that it should be broken into five separate states, and sold again, piecemeal to the Malayans. I mean, that is plain absurd, and if not for the obvious conclusion that we all choose to be beholden to the Malayans, that ridiculous thought you have is best consigned to the rubbish bin, Dr Brian. Quite apart from the fact both outcomes are the same, you are just proposing another moneymaking scheme. I believe James Wong was briefly detained under the ISA for trying to sell Limbang to Brunei. If PKR has any thoughts about this, then they will be handing victory to Taib on a plate. You too, may be overplaying your hand here, and you would not be seen to be any different from Jugah, the Jungle VIP who sold Sarawak to Malaya. At least that would be the perception.
Turning back the Clock
Well. It’s simple, without teeth and claws, no political force in Sarawak can be taken seriously by UMNO. UMNO is not interested in Sarawak. UMNO is not interested in Sabah. UMNO is going for the whole of South East Asia, with the party at the apex of a so called “Malay” Civilization. In other words, UMNO is seeking to project the concept of a “Malay”race, and it has clearly defined what a “Malay” is. This means, that the entire South East Asia, would at least, from the point of view of the ruling UMNO elite, be shades of a “Malay” race, but underneath the cultural and political hegemony of UMNO, and it’s concept of a “Malay Civilization”. UMNO is interested in balkanizing Indonesia, and then piecemeal at least, absorbing Indonesian territory, before repeating the same cultural and political tactics on the Phillipines, Thailand, Vietnam, Cambodia, and Burma. That is what UMNO is interested in, expanding it’s predefined cultural sphere, politically at least.
Dayak paramount chief, Yangdikasihi has proved yet again that he is the most effective Dayaks leaders in the planet. Yangdikasih, just with one phone call managed to secure a place for Marina Undau to pursue Diploma in Electrical Engineering and Technology at University Tun Hussien, Batu Pahat, Johor.

With Singapore pull out, the question is that, do the agreement still valid? Here Singapore have sense what the future will be.
The 18 points agreement, I have hear about it and have not seen it ever since it was mentioned in this blog so what make so confidential if our govem is sincere enough to serve the people and for the people according to what our Ministers and YBs propagated in TV, Radio and during civic assembly at kampongs and longhouses.

Thank you Mr. Kerani for inviting me for a coffee drink thats is what I want hear from a friend or foe. I am always pepping here, hearing what you guys are talking about, but I just relax for a while because I feel that it is useless and waste of time to read most of the slanderous and primitive remarks which make me tired. I am not a fanatic but liberal and always ready to share my views and hear from others. Facts and factors are what we want to know.For you as government servant should tell what is happening at your level so that all our doubts and misunderstanding concerning your department can be erased. Praising those in power of what they do is just like giving them bribe for that is their duty and not worth for praise.
Concerning this topic, I think we should solved the smaller one first. If we can’t solve the smaller, easier and common one, just leave this topic alone.

For a long time now I have likened Putra Jaya to our former British colonial masters because I realised then that Sarawak was merely a colony of Malaya. When the British left they handed us over to Malaya, but the handover was couched in nice sounding terminology such as “independence within Malaysia”. The British and Malayan administrations knew that we were in Sarawak were still a naive lot when it came to politics. To put it bluntly we were hoodwinked! However, it is not too late to get back our self-respect. We can support PR in exchange for autonomy. No more Malayans lording it over Sarawakians! And let there be a Dayak CM once more.

I must have also touch on this topic several times in this blog. This time, I keep it even simpler.
Take the recent case of Marina. I had said that the Federal Constitution would likely never be amended to allow mixed-marriage children of Dayak parentage to be declared a Bumiputera.
Its simple: there will never be sufficient parlimentary votes to pass the amendment under PR or BN government. Bumiputera Peninsula MPs will see themselves giving up 1000s of seats to IPTA to accomodate the new category of Bumiputera children from Sarawak.
Take the Federal Budget allocation. Note that the budget would be allocated by sector – and not by region, or state – except the case for Trengganu and Johor.At any rate: there is no evident that Federal Budgets, in 2010 or in the past – have been formulated to give Sabah and Sarawak, any practical nudge forward.
I tend to agree with many assessment that the Oil and Gas sector, could easily contribute up to 40% of the national income, if all corporate and individual income taxes are included in the 14.5% that was tabulated. Why is it that so little of the revenue makes the return trip to Sabah and Sarawak ?
To be brief: I agree PKR (and the PR political parties) can be asked if they would subscribe to the idea of providing greater economic autonomy to Sabah and Sarawak, so the 2 states can execute their development plans according to their own schedule.The simplest economic autonomy I can think of is to split all forms of taxation into State and Federal component,and for each State to be allowed to set their own tax regime e.g for economic stimulus – and to get the bigger share of the tax split.
I think this form of economic autonomy would be the least threathening to the Federation, and should be acceptable to many MPs. Note that while the Oil and Gas sector would bring substantial revenue to the state, it would be seen as a short term boost and opportunity. The oil and gas industry in Sarawak and Sabah,by some estimate – will not last beyond 20 to 30 years.The Federal government may see the risk of empowering the State with such short term funds : it can backfired if not properly managed due to the lack of oversight and institutions. Still, its worth the risk: I would join any political party (and will give full-throated support) that would give Sabah and Sarawak a reasonable chance to develop towards parity with the Peninsular, before the oil and gas runs out.
I agree with the Monkey Master
that it make no sense to split Sarawak into 5 States, as that would not balance the parlimentary seat distribution – or automatically make Sarawak, the electoral equal of Peninsular. The EC could still allocate total of 31 seats, so Sarawak would still have little voting bloc in Parliment.
And if PKR and the PR, would not consider anything of the sorts, then any other political parties (including BN),can be asked about it. When all the internal State-level issues are resolved,the stumbling block to prosperity for Sabah and Sarawak, remains the overly powerful central government in the Federation.
Its just an instinct. Looking at other countries like the USA,UK and Germany, one can’t help notice how the country can grow and remain cohesive, while the central government provides vast autonomy to each of the states.In the case of Sabah, Sarawak and Peninsular, where the regions are at very different level of development, its advantageous to loosen the central government grip, and to let each region/state govern and strategise itself (example using a taxation formula). Think about it: earth moving machinery like Kato and Caterpillars, can be made cheaper in Sabah and Sarawak using tax incentive-to stimulate agriculture sector, while Penang may still need import tax incentive for electronic IC raw materials, for its fledgling economic sectors.
I think it simply make sense to decentralise the Federation especially since there is no more military threats in the region (a strong Federation is required only for that purpose – to commit resource for defense).Even EAGA would be able to develop (if there is no national level policy involve).It would be interesting if political science students and academics would study this proposal in detail.If ever it becomes a decisive issue during election, I would place my vote on this one – over and above anything else – for the massive potential it promise.

I understand some one feel this is weird idea will not work at all. But if you analysed the motion carefully, it already applicable and benefit the dayak overall.
PBB was formed by a group of dayak and malay leaders, the bumiputera of Swk in late 1960s. The notable dayak leaders are namely Tun Jugah, Pengarah Banyang, Penghulu Sandom, Penghulu Abok, Temenggong Oyo Lawai Ijau, Racha Omong, and many other PBB veterans. They teamed up with their malay brother such Tun Rahman, Ahmad Urai and many others. They are all the bumiputera of Swk by the definition of Federal Constitution.
As the son of bumi, they teamed up into stronger team, created a greater bargaining power for development fund from the Federal Govt. Tun Jugah, though illiterate was appointed the Federal Minister for Sarawak Affair.
Currently we have our paramount chief working in hand & hand with CM. Our paramount chief practically granted YES to anything from CM, especially when comes the request in the name of dayak development.
The most recent example is Maria Undau admission to UTM, is the work of our paramount chief. THIS WHAT WE CALLED KETUANAN DAYAK DALAM PBB.
Sorry to say the non PBB will not be much privilege from Putraja BN office.
For DB, it will never happen, not even have a chance to see our Paramount chief without DayakLama permission.

Is this why Iban YBs from other BN components parties appear UNABLE to voice out the Dayak Iban problems?. Proposals are hardly accepted by the govt?.
It seems to us that even Iban YBs from PBB appear to be toothless.What more to say others from the rest.
MU case is a cheap political move by the opportunist to initiate cosmetic action, simply carried out to deceive the Iban people.
Therefore, within or without PBB, personally I feel the Ibans are still underprivileged.

You must have skip/drop your history lesson while sitting for your MCE. Sarawak never been a country before joining the federation of Malaysia. Even under the rule of white Rajah, we never have any single currency with symbol of Rajah Brook head but instead using the England currency. After Rajah left the head of state is called governor,we have the white governor or TYT-Tuan Yang Terutama Yang Dipertuan NEGERI Sarawak. So Sarawak was never been a nation of its own.
If the British is going to leave us we are going to die. From the beginning we cannot be on our own, we are still too primitive the Dayaks/Iban hate development since from the very beginning until today, they dispersed to the upper river and still want to let a primitive life. This the root cause why all things like roads, electricity is still something to be debated in the 20 century because we are playing cat and mouse game.The gomen build road to this point today, tomorrow there are still people moving away further north and so forth. Not that i insulted the Dayaks/Iban as i am one of them but that is the reality. The truth hurts remember.
With the sympathy of the British they ask the Malaya to come to a rescue to invite Sarawak to join Malaya. It was not Malaya interested to have Sarawak but Sarawak need Malaya more in order for them to survive and to learn of how to lead a modern life. So until now we are still learning from Malaya and get Malaya as a role model in anything that we want to do.
Come to think about it Changop4540 you are totally right. It is infact quite wise for us to choose Malaya as a role model.
I still remember a few years back when i m sitting for my PMR Sejarah’s paper there are 3 questions related to malaya and sarawak.

Kati ka bala IBAN ya ke nyadi renjer ngetan ka menua semenanjung bisi orang semenanjung beterima kasih agai kitai Sarawak.Unggal kerani opis tanah,ukai semina orang semenanjung aja ya ke nyadi sedadu maya ngelaban komunis.Nyadi ka chunto,Kanang anak Langkau ya ke cedera parah ketegal ngetan ke menua semenanjung.Enti ka agi sebedau nulis komen baca dulu bup sejarah.
