Malay Rights
By Shaik Rizal Sulaiman
Governing and demanding
The Malays are ‘technically’ in power governing the country but it is also this same controlling group that demands the right to correct economic imbalances and disparities for its own race.
Opportunities based on meritocracy
What does this say about the ‘majority governing’ Malay race for the last 50 years? I dare say that most Malaysians (regardless of race) below the age of 40 would like to see all opportunities be spread amongst those who deserve it on meritocracy.
We do not need the keris anymore to tell others to be careful of what they say and do because in the survival of the fittest, the keris is of very little relevance!
The ‘tempurung’ mentality
If we continue to hide under the ‘bumiputera’ tempurung as most Malays have been in the last 50 years or more, the catch-up game will just get harder and the gap wider.
No substitute for merit
If we continue to expect without earning it, we will never learn how to be a race that succeeds on merit. There is NO substitute for merit. The Malay politicians continue to shout about Malay rights and bumiputera rights because the very nature of our local politics is sadly racially biased.
Meritocracy, hard work without fear or favour
In this day and age, a great nation is built upon joint success stories, meritocracy and the combined hard work of its people WITHOUT any fear or favour of racial biased politics governing our daily policies. Sadly, the Malay politicians have ended up completely corrupt, racialists, twisted religious fanatics.
Malaysia is for all Malaysians
I am below 40 and as much as I love the ‘idea’ that Malaysia is tanah tumpahnya darah orang Melayu, I can’t help but also feel that this country is for ALL Malaysians alike including the Chongs, the Kumars, the Xaviers, the Singhs & Kaurs etc who were born on the same day in the same hospital as me here in Malaysia.
Do we deserve more?
If we feel that WE (the Malays) deserve this country more than THEM, then WE (the Malays) should have shown them a long time ago that we deserve the ‘control all’ status.
NEP: Double-edged sword
We have to earn it. The policies FAILED because the very concept of Malay rights or the NEP/DEB is like a double-edged sword. On one hand, it aims to eradicate wealth disparity but on the other, it has made the Malays oblivious of what reality is. Our (Malays) success is only reflected in the ‘perceived’ political power which today can collapse in a matter of minutes. I would also like to see my children succeed in their country, Malaysia, for reasons that true success should be based upon, which are merit and hard work and NOT because they are Malays or bumiputeras.
For as long as the Malays don’t see this, there is very little point in fighting for Malay rights…
Taking without accepting responsbilities
It just makes us look more ridiculous. We have taken this notion of being privileged a bit too literally in that it now simply means we want this country and its fruits all for ourselves without accepting the responsibilities that come with it. I blame the MALAY politicians for this because we want to only fight the cause without strategising for the true substance and need of the cause. We have been given fish all the while without being taught how to fish.
Change, is it welcome?
It’s funny how two different generations can be so diverse in their thinking and the recent elections proved just that…. We are no longer concerned with racial problems but more so the never-ending Malay agenda issues. The rakyat has spoken and the landscape has drastically changed. Is this change welcomed? Is it good?
Not ready to compete
The answer is ‘NO’. Because we, the Malays, have been caught with our pants down – we are not ready to compete on any level playing field (we can’t even compete on advantageous grounds!). Even with three or five more continuing policies for Malay rights or bumiputera privileges over the next 50 years, we will still be in exactly the same position as we are in today
The truth hurts
The truth hurts and the truth will always prevail. And the truth of what’s to come will NOT go away. I am cynical perhaps because I feel that Malay rights is NOT relevant anymore. The right to be safe, to be treated fairly, to have a world-class healthcare and education, to enjoy equal prosperity, to have good governance, to live in a clean environment and to be war-free is what I want for my Malaysia. NOT for MY race to be artificially powerful.
If we want the Malays to fail, then by all means continue the fight for Malay rights. Go and polish your keris…

Good, let the Malays, each time they imagined that they are being threatened by the other communuties in Malaysia, shouted out the”ketuanan Melayu”,the “social contracts” and “malay Rights”, and sharpen their little “keris”.Let them hide behind all these “sand castles” of theirs, so that, in no time, they will become complecent, and their percieved political power will collapse in the next election, or the next.

Dear Malaysians,
A thousand thanks to a true and loyal Malaysian who speaks from both his mind and heart and with sincerity and good-will.
Malaysians must change, especially the malays, according to the author, from clinging to the privileges of the status, ‘malays and bumiputras’.
Success must be based on meritocracy.
Let hear what one wise man had said:
“You cannot bring about prosperity by discouraging thrift.
You cannot strenghten the weak by weakening the strong.
You cannot help the wage earner by pulling down the wage payer.
You cannot further the brotherhood of man by encouraging class hatred.
You cannot help the poor by destroying the rich.
You cannot keep out of trouble by spending more than you earn.
You cannot build character and courage by taking away man’s initiative and independence.
You cannot help men permanently by doing for them what they could and should do for themselves.”
Abraham Lincoln
How true!
Abraham Lincoln boleh, Malaysian boleh.
Thank you.
God bless everyone.
Who is this shaik Rizal Sulaiman?
It is interesting to note that there is some one out there dares to give his straight opinion/view from his heart and mind on Malay rights issue.
I wish now our Dayak leaders and all bloggers are more open minded and speak the fact of “all” facing the Dayak development in SARAWAK.
Dare to be different and progressive for the better of SARAWAK
TO ALL READERS,
The Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission is investigating 71 cases of Internet abuse by disseminating false and lewed contents and contents that insult Islam.
Information Communication and Culture Minister Datuk Seri Dr Rais Yatim said out of the 71, eight had been acted upon under the Communications and Multimedia Act 1998 for defaming others.
He disclosed that the ministry had also taken action under Section 263 of the Act against seven websites which insulted Islam, namely http://www.syurga-islam.blogspot.com, http://www.faithfreedom.org, manatuhanallah.wordpress.com, adibahahmed.blogspot.com, surind.blogspot.com, tokbatinsenoi.blogspot.com and http://www.malaysia-today.ne

While Dayakbaru may not have been listed or under probed Dr. J Brian should be mindfull on some of the comments made by some of the “monkeys” commentator esp. PE or CI and others. We can argue from dust till dawn but please refrain from touching on Islam or/and other sensitive matters.

Unity will be self expedited only when there exists no feelings of SUPERIORITY OR INFERIORITY AMONG THE RAKYAT.
Until such environment (in all fields ) is achieved DO NOT EXPECT ANY SUCCESS OF 1MALAYSIA.
In reality we have moved on from “Bumiputera” rights, and we are now seeing the Malay Community on Malaya, pushing for “Ketuanan Melayu”. Unlike the above writer, I do not equate the definition of a “Malay” to someone who is Muslim, and who “appears” to be a Malay. I don’t subscribe to the notion of a “Malay” race, partly because I know that term is another falsehood, and partly because we all know what we used to know about Malays from the old days. And let me reassure, this coastal Malays living in Riau, Sumatera, Malaya, and Sambas have not changed much in values or in character. We used to call them Orang Laut, because of how backward these people were, and also because of their peculiar belief systems, which now is reflected in the National character, to our Nation’s detriment.
As for the term “Bumiputera”, this is pure bullshit invented by the Malay Ethnic Group, to protect their claims, and their indigenous rights, i.e their Sultans and Rajas, from external interference. The Federal Constitution has not been amended for Sarawak, and as yet, many of you readers, of mixed parentage, are not constitutionally recognised as “native and indigenous” to Borneo. However, the term Bumiputera is no longer lingua franca in 1Malaysia today, it is Ketuanan Melayu. And Ketuanan Melayu is a political ideology. YOU HAVE TO BE A MALAY TO BE PART OF KETUANAN MELAYU. And you have to a MELAYU TULEN from the Malay States and Malay regions, not an assimilated Javanese, Bugis, Iban, Kadazan, Aceh, Batak, Banjar, Ambon or Filipino. That is Ketuanan Melayu.
So recognition of Natives is out of the political picture. If you want to get ahead in MALAY-SIR, you have to be an ethnic Malay, with an Arab name, playing the angklung and wearing a sarong. And a Malay is a TUAN. Ketuanan Melayu.
That is why Malaysia will fail like East and West Pakistan, Sri Lanka, Vietnam, and Timor. The seeds of Malay Ketuanan has guaranteed the breakup of Malaysia.
These generations, (0-50), are the breed from those who was born during colonial, before Japanese occupation and after, finally those born before FEDERATION OF MALAYSIA 1963.
No matter how, as long as the current Federal Government lead by those breed, nothing will change and the mindset remain the same.
Damaged has been done, there were quite a lot being suffered due to “KETUANAN MELAYU” or “MELAYU” SUPREMCY, those affected, the current generation will never be satisfied no matter how you want to convince or justify.
Sarawak and, in particular especially those who were disappointed will never appreciate whatever values added that may Federal wanted to put in place, why??? Because damaged has been done.
As mentioned by the writer, the Malay could maintain or continue with their “ketuanan” OR supremacy”. Then, if this continues to happen, may be the best solution is “GOOD BYE MALAYSIA” welcome Sarawak, Sabah and Brunei Country.
Just cannot be twisted, Ketuanan Melayu will always be there as long as our Agong is our highest authority. PM is also with them. Their rights is permanent in Malaysia or 1Malaysia its the same.
Other bumiputras esp. Sabah/Sarawk rights for certain will be diminishing slowly. Thats for sure and already on the move.
I don’t have any concrete idea of how to change this rather than suggesting and agreeing on some of the above opinion which may be not very pratical and encouraging, but thats good to dream.
While in Rome..what are you suppose to do? Of course to follow the Romans. Same…we are living in the malay states, malay kingdom, malay archipelago, malay rulers, malay gomen, malay culture, malay religion, malay way of life, malay language, malay traditions, malay kampong, malay country, malay land, malay king, malay food, malay wife/husband, malay school, malay football team, malay army, malay right, malay CM/TYT etc, etc.
DB should install PE or CI as thier King or Sultan.Say lah u no balls !!!!!!
The facts :
Non-Malay can live in harmony within under Malay-Muslim government leader. But, Malay-Muslim can not live under Non-Malay-Muslim government leader harmoniously. In Southern Thailand, Mindanao, etc. There’s rebbel against government of non-Muslim government leader. Its okay Dayaks as we are in their governent, but imagine if that our new CM and TYT is non-Muslim, what will they do…?To me, I think they will protest…because the polices in the Federal Constitution…the Malay Rights…and is it okay to Sarawak to gain full Independence from Malaysia? Maybe the next after 50 years of our Independence within Malaysia. Because Sarawak is created by Brooke’s Rajahs and not the federal government created us. So we must no need to ask permission of Independence from them, because our sincerely heart to form Malaysia together with the Federation of Malaya and North Borneo in 1963, so that they shall release us sincerely too,’What we gave is what we shall get back, the Independence We Must.’
While there is rule by the majority, the right of every one must be clearly spelt out and systematically protected. The majority cannot do what ever it wants.Everyone is treated equally under the law.
Democracy endeavour to protect the rights of minority. Discrimination can occur because of race.
Changing the government through party-hopping is terribly undemocratic, So, don`t ever support political frog.
What say you Mr. John Jamban?
Dr,
Where are all these people during these last few days?.
On holiday?.
Enggal Dayaklama, Where are you now?. Still monitoring the PKR stupidity?
Ok la… need to have some rest!. Put aside this Malay rights issue for a while.
Cheers…
Dear firends,
It is so honourable for people to fight for justice and fairness and to gather strength and unity of purpose to defeat the unjust party. But often, after the job is done, the same people who fought together splilt and the stronger one starts bullying the weaker ones.
In my view, we must avoid that and start with a well-understood stand and agreement that all men are created equal or to be treated equal before, during and after the cooperation and struggle.
We have to look at the world political democratic systems and adopt the best one or a combination of the good parts of several systems to form The System that suits us.
Unless Malaysians or Sarawakians can come out with a better system than what we are having now, we might end up fighting in the Dark.
Sometimes, we find there is nothing terribly wrong of the System, though there are lop-holes the need to be mended and made the system perfect or near-perfect.
It has always been the IMPLEMENTATION that goes bad.
We must ensure the system is mended so that there is no room for misinterpretation and wrong implementation.
Such is the case in Malaysia, as I see it and should be changed.
Datuk Ambiga Sreenevasan said, and I quote, “We heard so much about the ‘Special position of the Malays and also the Natives of Sabah and Sarawak but when was the last time you heard a speech about the safeguarding, ‘the legitimate interests of other communities’. It would appear that we have lost our balance.”
It was mildly put across by the former President of Malaysia Bar Council of the above. I see it that much need to be done to ensure we do not leave it to chance.
We must amend the Federal Constitution as necessary for it to be fair and just for all Malaysians and implement it as such, making all men equal and feeling equal.
The Malays Rights are taken care of. The Natives of Sabah and Sarawak rights are taken care of. The other Communities interests (change to rights) are taken care of. In other words, all Malaysians rights are taken care of and should be the same. Unless it (amendment)is done, there will be no justice and fairness.
Amend the Federal Constitution, “the Merdeka Social Contract”. That is the only way out. That is the survival of Malaysia.
God bless everyone.
Dear friends,
As Dayaks, you cannot be alone. As Dayaks, you cannot be hasty and impatient. As Dayaks, you cannot spilt. As Dayaks you cannot love only you.
You have to work with all Sarawakians, especially the non-bimiputras. You have to think deep and work out a master plan that incorporate other sub-plans. You have to remain united and work as one major force. Even when you are one, you are still small and weak. You therefore need others to work with you. You need all Sarawakians to be strong.
To gain trust and confidence of your own communities, you need to really prove yourselves and your principles outstanding and your leaders’ characters steadfast and beyond reproached.
At the moment, the dayak leadership is ‘so so’ to ‘good’ but much is needed to be improved. Ask any chinese malaysian on the street, the common man. his opinion. Better still, conduct a survey.
The past experience of SUPP turning its back on PBDS is a case to remember. Don’t blame them, blame yourselves for you then lack credibility and TRUST.
Be patient, stay cool and control own tempers to gain trust on others.
Be compassionate and generous to others and develop it into a leadership habit and a culture to gain friendship and cooperation of others whether own communities or other communities.
Be compromising and accomodating to see others’ views and needs; take some, give some. Never take all.
In short be a Sarawakian-Sarawakian politician. Be a Malaysian-Malaysian politician.
This is what an equaliser says. Be humble to listen. Don’t get mad. Stay cool and pick up the good points. Throw away the bad or unsuitable ones.
When in doubt, refer to the Eight Good Advices of Abraham Lincoln.
God bless Sarawak.
Thank you, dear friends.
Dear Dr. John,
Please study the Eight Good Advices of Abraham Lincoln and develop a “Ten Commandants for Dayaks” to improve their lives and advancement in a Malaysian environment or a Sarawakian environment.
Short, brief and to the point, so that all dayaks can remember, talk and practise it.
You will do them a great service by doing that instead of only involve in long discussions on a merry-go-round talks, seminars, workshops and forums which may only create a mind of discussion and talk but no concrete actions.
God bless everyone.
Dear Dr. John,
For the advancement and progress of the DAYAKS, please advise the dayaks to promote love and peace among themselves and among others. Love your enemy as yourself, a 2000 years advice.
This is especially so among the men, retirees and pensioners who frequent coffee-shops whiling their time away and bringing back homes their talks, some of which are unsuitable to the young minds. They may continue with their talks at homes to the detriment of their grandchildren.
Take another example, some dayaks are treating the Big Companies as their enemy. That to me is folly. The Big Companies have no choice but to be close to the government-of-the-day to conduct their businesses successfully. They will cooperate with any government in power for the sake of their business. They are in fact not the dayaks’ enemy but it is the dayaks who make them their enemy. Think about it and be smart. Make friends, not enemies. Create love, not hatred.
Food for thought.
God bless everybody.
Dear Dr. John,
“Malay rights can be diminished, dayak rights increased”, Malay rights can be diminished, Malaysians rights increased, through the power of love and peace.
Concern first others and everything would fall into place. Love first others and your enemy would fall deeply.
Seek first the Kingdom of God, everything then will follow. Is that sound right? Or sound near right?
God bless all Sarawakians!!!

Shaik Rizal Sulaiman is writing force-fully for his Malay brethren. He is urging his Malay brothers to stop being too dependent on their constitutional ketuanan. He is following Adam Smith advise that effectively says that the wealth of nation is not in the physical but in the competitive, and inventive spirit of the people. And of course, Confucious teaching man to fish, and not to live off donation and social crutches. The guy is a Malay patriot, but an antithesis to Hishamuddin keris worship.
What does this have to do with the Dayak ?
Well, Dayak is a Bumiputera. Does have some privilege, or so it says – in the constitution. UMNO is a Barisan National main party. All Barisan National component party pay homage to Ketuanan Melayu and uphold the rights of the Bumiputera, and the Natives of Sabah and Sarawak.
So,is it the case that the Dayak must therefore be stupid not to support Barisan National – to preserve its rights and privilege against the advent of modern thoughts like Shaik, which would be, presumably to the natural liking of non-Bumiputera – Indians, Chinese, Eurasians, Portugese ? And perhaps to the natural liking of progressive political parties in PR …
Shaik was writing for the Malays, but vide Bumiputra-ism, he was also implicating the Dayak in his public discourse with his race.
As a Dayak, would you agree with the Shaik’s contention that in the long run, that Bumiputra rights and privilege which dovetail with the Malay Ketuanan, would be weakening the Bumiputra capability to compete in the global marketplace ?
That the the NEP/DEB has a downside (complacency and malaise), which outweight the upside ?
Will you, in your deepest of thoughts, be willing to concede to the non-Bumiputras, that they should be accorded equal rights and privilege, just as the UN charter and your God would have reminded you ?
Take note that it is not possible to dismantle Ketuanan Melayu and not to also dismantle the rights and privilege, granted to Bumiputera …
Or, ultimately is it the case that for Dayak, the political choice is predestined to protect any attempt to erode Bumiputra righs and privilege, and thereby to act as a fence,to protect Ketuanan Melayu ?
For YB James JM,he is willing to protect his own right and privilege only even at the demise of fellow Ibans. Can’t he just shut up in the State Assembly when the Chinese ( DAP rep ) Voon Lee Shan talks about Dayaks rights? Put political differences aside, he never admits Dayaks problems, but remains in denial mode just to save his political career.

DB,
When Indonesia, Philippine, Vietnam, Thailand, India even China hold their Independent. The first issue they raised was the catogary of citizenship to be adopted for non-bumiputra of the country. Most of all are Chinese oveseas except China/Hongkong were Western and Korean.
The Chinese stayed overseas during that time were asked to choose whether they leaved the country or lose their identity, family Chain, language, name, Chinese education, name, handwriting and etc to accept the citizenship. Those who stayed they lose their identity and forced to change their identity and adopted the identity of the country they live. By then, there is no Chinese in Philippine, Indonesia, Thailand, India and Vietnam unless they do it illegally.
This system of citizenship adoption is different from Malaysia including Sarawak. Malaysia keeps all the identity and previlage of Non-bumiputra provided that they respect the bumiputra right. Then Dayak NCR Right, 18 points are prevailed along with Ketuanan Melayu. In the case of 18 points, one of it is, if TYT of Sarawak is Muslim, CM must be given to Dayak and opposite. Dayak Right in NCR Land is that, Non-bumiputras are not elligible to own this land similarly with rizab Melayu in Malaya.
One of the main purpose of this right is to respect Dayak as a native of the Hornbill Land. Beside that is to put Dayak balance more faster in all field such which are education, economic, culture and etc. NEP always try it best to do this.
On this base we can see the Non-bumiputra Right including Chinese community in Malaysia. They have the right to practise their culture, belief, social, economy and politic in Malaysia without restricted like in other country. We will not find this Non-bumiputra Right in this Globe including China beside Malaysia and Singapore. Some country including China and India practise that, non-bumiputra shall use different identity card and prevent to involve in politic.
But now we can see what happen in Sarawak. We may see Sawarak more or least look like China Country where all the poster and building accupied by Chinese community with Chinese Identity, over power the Malaysian identity. New Law was established to convert Dayak NCR Land to Mix Zone and sell to Chinse with low price. We can check from Land & Survey Office in Sarawak, almost all the high quality of these Mix Zone Land has been sold to Non-Bumiputra without any proper channel or transpirency. Only leave are Leasehold Land and non titttle Dayak Land.
In core Chinese company which are control most of Sarawak economy, no body can joint the company or go to Chinese school without having a basic Chinese Language. This is one of the example of 1000 of Chinese Right in sarawak that is very common now a day.
The question is, whether all Malaysian are ready or agreed to put Bumiputra Rights and 18 points into our rubbish bin together with Non-bumiputra Right on their identity, culture, family chain, Chinese education, Chinese handwriting and etc in rubbish bin as well? The answer is in our self.
Non-bumiputra shall not misunderstand, when Bumiputra protect their right the same as the bumiputra shall not misunderstand when Non-bumiputra protect their right. Use or protect our right wisely and avoid to take other people right.
DB Readers, I do not think that the whole Globe including China is ready to put all of us into one Culture, 1 language, 1 identity, 1 belief or 1 World. This theory is seemed good but we do not know when the God can creats it?
If Dayak not defend their rights in Borneo, these tribe will disappear from the earth, like other that disappeared before. Even though in the Bumiputra quotas there no advantage to our Dayak, but. There are Malays Rights, Bumiputra Rights, but no more Dayak Rights. Malays having more advantages also in their rights in the bumiputra quotas.
Conclusions:
Bumiputra Rights = Malay Rights + Dayak + other indegenous.
Malay Rights = only to Malays
So the Malays had most advantage as they already had the Malay + Bumiputra Rights.
Dear friends,
I was at a coffee-shop and there I met some chinese malaysians talking away quietly and with intellectuality.
When I first tried to join them, they seemed reluctant to allow me to join. Luckily among them there was someone who knew me.
Those chinese malaysians were in fact retired teachers and journalists. They are experts on chinese culture and history of Sarawak, in their own right.
They asked what did I know, being a Sarawakian, Mr. Equaliser. I replied you had not asked me the question and you assumed I did not know. That was bad, I said.
One of them said, you heard how the dayaks who married chinese made so much fuss about the status of their children for the sake of having the extra privileges. (The parents of the girl were better of than most chinese malaysians and yet they appeared they could not support their own child). Some Dayaks were furious and started saying all sorts of things which normally they wouldn’t dare to utter at all.
Our wise man said, Look at the “Hua Len”, they kept quiet and moved on, with or without the Bumiputra Status.
He continued, “Do you know all Sarawakians who were born in Sarawak were natives, as proclaimed by the Rajah of Sarawak in 1920″? Of course, I said, “I don’t know. Now, you are pulling my legs. That cannot be true.”
He continued and said, “In 1953, the British Government changed the law and declared only those tribes (races) listed in that Order issued in 1953 were natives.
It was that list that was later included and embedded in the Federal Constitution in 1963, on the formation of Malaysia. (It is the same list that prevents mixed parentage children from Sarawak to qualify as bumiputras.)
The chinese malaysians from Sarawak were natives from 1920 to 1953.
The chinese malaysians from Semananjung and Sabah were never proclaimed as natives and they were not.
He farther said, “The chinese malaysians in Sarawak were smart enough, not to create tension and wasting their time, by fighting for their rights but rather they took it as a challenge, to unite, cooperate and look after themselves by working doubly HARD to progress in life.
He added, “The results speak for itself”.
I was stunned and lost for WORDS. Quickly, I excused myself and left the coffee-shop, like a wounded fighting cock.
God bless everyone: the Malays, the Dayaks, the natives or the non-natives.
Yeah, it looks like, it will take sometime for Sarawakians to obey God, “All Men Are Created Equal.”
Thank you, friends.
Unggal Iban Abroad,
The overseas Chinese forced assimilation to the then newly independent countries – was wrong: it was cultural genocide even if the envisaged end result was national integration.
Interestingly enough, the forced assimilation did not suppress the Chinese from, progressing. In Indonesia, 10% of the wealth is held by ethnic Chinese. Similarly in Thailand, Taksin – an ethnic Thai-Chinese, remains the richest man in Thailand. The same can be said of the ethnic Chinese in the Philippines.
The ex-immigrant Chinese had made their respective adopted nation proud, and had contributed more to the nation, than just economics.
Even without the national contribution, the principle that a large group of people can lord over others in a national compact, is still wrong and will not be sustainable. It will be detrimental to the long term nation building. Already, government officials and educationist lament the tendency for students in institute of higher learning, to congregate along racial lines. The cause for the polarisation can’t be too hard to understand.
As regard, the Dayak stake in the rights and privilege; lets be clear about what’s actually there. The 18-point agreement had never been acknowledged by the ruling Barisan National for the past 46 years. It is the ruling Barisan National-controlled state legislature that had continue to erode the Dayak rights to their NCR/L by amending the State Land code since 1958.It is the same BN government that has refuse to grant the Dayak their legal rights to the NCR/L land by withholding any approval to the land title. While the non-Bumiputera may not be allowed to purchase and own NCR land, it is the State BN policy to grant 60 years lease to public-listed companies -and often used the execuse that this would be the only way that the Dayaks will get their Land title to their NCR land (after the 60 yrs tenure). To be provided with such opportunity to acquire cheap (untitled) Dayak land, is way better than having to buy it; just pay the land premium. As far as conversion of NCR land to Mixed Zone, that practise has been part of a contrived land speculation scheme involving inside people in Land and Survey, the Local City Council Planning, and political big wigs – for ages.
The remaining rights and privilege that Dayak still enjoy is the quota into IPTA and ASB. Lets also look at this remaining rights and privilege in detail. For Dayak, it is not so much the quota thats important: it is also the economic means. All to often, many poor Dayak families won’t be able to scrap enough saving to utilise their quota even with IPTN scheme. As for ASB, the average returns is no where near when it was first lunch. With so much Amanah Saham XYZ, that is opened to all Malaysians, the local bourse is no longer an exclusive playing field for ASB to secure 10 % returns.
To my mind, what Dayak have at this moment: that was supposedly trickled down and protected by UMNO and their proxy in the State BN, is not zilth but not sufficient to be the basis of undying loyalty.
As Shaik amd many esteemed writers has observed, the problem with privilege is that it tends to be benefit a few. The system of privilege is fraught with predatory politicians and group who enrich themselves using privilege that only the political party has power to dispense, over and above the noble aims of delivery system like the NEP.In such a system, you will breed people who benefit from AP permit, you will breed people like Naroden (the undisputed owner of 48,000 hectare of NCR land in Simunjan), and Sharifah M, is rumour to have been awarded with vast tracts in Kuching.
There are ways to implement Affirmative Action policy that would be entangled free of political influence. And that is by not associating the privilege as the provence of politics and politicians. There is no reason why it would not be possible to provide quota and priority scholarschip scheme to all poor Malaysians, regardless of race. The same can be said of the equity market : the poor can be granted special privilege to participate in unit trust and IPOs.
I don’t mean for the country to throw away the system in less than 10 years. I mean for Sarawakian and Malaysian to look around, and agree on a better future for the nation by taking steps to dismantle the artificial structures that keep the nation divided. The Chinese and Indians would have to meet the Bumiputras half-way, and vice-versa. It has to be an aspiration for all Malaysians, to dismantle their own, self-created, self-imposed apartheid-ic social contract.
For Dayak, its a non-choice. UMNO/BN is not protecting or endowing it with the promised rights and privilege, as accorded to the Malay and political elites. It is time to be more circumspect – and to look toward real democracy is the true gurantor of justice. If we continue to believe in being granted special rights and privilege through Bumiputera-ism, then I have to say, we would not be any different than the Tuai Rumahs who would feel such debt of gratitude from the few 1000s ringgit of MRP grants, issued just before an election day.
I would be remiss if I don’t finish off with this point to ponder: since there are already many Malays, Chinese, Indians, etc intellectuals who begin to question the wisdom of partitioning Malaysians by their accorded rights and privilege, the very least that Dayak can do is to read the lines, and anything between the lines, very carefully, and to understand that the goal is a good and noble one, and I should think – achievable.
Malaysia – Malay Asia
Malaysia – Malay Sarawak Iban Ancestor.
Points to ponder..
” The habit of of automatically assuming SUPERIORITY over the other is the antithesis of critical thinking, its a DANGEROUS HABIT that THREATEN BOTH DEMOCRACY AND WORLD PEACE. Those who feel superior generally either try to force their ways on others CAUSING MUCH VIOLENCE AND MANY WARS, or care less about the fate of humans they think less valuable, allowing widespread tolerance of national and global poverty and suffering. A sense of superiority lead people to forget that all groups have an essential similarity that is far more important than any difference among them and every group is human. It is neither reasonable nor productive to react to difference, which is to be expected by thoughtlessly assuming that one particular human group is inferior or less valuable than another.”
…extract from a book i recently read. So this so call malay supremacy is a gravely dangerous ideology.

At last I found the real dayaks who talk with their heart and mind. So, everyone, let us hand in hand initiate the move to educate the dayak with all the qualities of life to survive in this challenging world. Let us do our part in our own capability zone to bring change in all fields of life for the dayaks. It is the critical time for us squeeze our the very mind to come with solutions on how to help the dayaks to get away from the present world they are living.
Thank very much once more everybody. God has answered my cried all this while. Every time I read ideas and piece of mind put down in this blog, I always dream that every single brain that has the chance to have this opportunity to express what they feel and felt about dayaks would come to a meeting point and share ideas as well as argue with manners and have a focul point to have a betterment of the dayaks.
