Lazy, greedy and selfish. these are the perfect words how i discribed the dayak of sarawak to some western foreigners.

Kerani Opis W,

By virtue of your Job Title, I think you only mix around with the unfortunate Ibans (Ibu Tunggal, Orang Tasah) and that's why you dare to tarnish the image of my bansa, making generalized statement on them. Do expose yourself or mingle around with orang kaya Iban baka Iban Militant then you know how hard working & smart are the Ibans

Rekak nuan legi, padah endur nuan?

Dayak are lazy, greedy and selfish people – so no progress???

The answers to it can be YES & NO, depend on situations.
Pity the Ibans (nibuh nyebut bansa dayak bukai), especially the longhouse folks; they may fall into that category because they are mostly not educated and dont quite really know the purpose of life....what they know....they got Aji-No-Moto & salt at their kitchen that's ok....they plant paddy, looking for jungle produce enough for a day consumption, anything extra also a waste....no fridge to preserve it.

Why? that's the way of life in the rural areas..worst case if the longhouse is not accessible by road.....and a long journey to the nearest district to sell their produce.

Secondly, the leaders mold them where they are; instill the attitude of nganti & ngarap ke perintah give them MRP....sometimes the YB got elected for 5 & more consecutive terms and yet the rayat still waiting for the MRP that had been promised in last 25 yrs...kasih amat kasih.

Thirdly, leaders have no vision for them....the only one in place is SAWIT (JV project), but unfortunately failed to give them enough income for daily needs. Open lands for commercial purpose (big scale), without enough guidance, who do we think among them has the gut to start the project even if they can get loan from the bank?

However, any Iban who has the opportunity to work for a company/ agency/ individual and getting fair wages (commensurate with his skill & experience), nobody dare to paint his ass with any of the above remarks. Ukai ga ngumbai kitai Iban bagas gawa ari orang tang selalu ninga bansa orang muji kitai Iban tu rajin enti begulai bebala maioh enggau bansa bukai.

Please dont generalise the statement. Enda alah disangkung pengawa sida ba rumah panjai ke kayo2 nadai temu utai dikereja. Could we blame them or the leaders because the later who have Diploma, Degree, Masters & PhD ENDA tebatak ke sida nitih ke singkang pemansang bansa bukai? Or they could be at the wrong place by early adventure/ their own wish; kulu agi manah agi nyamai ngulih ke lauk?

Dayaks are too trusting and forgive (and forget) easily. We trust too easily someone who shows a little kindness and care. We reciprocate with more kindness and care without any reservations. It never cross our minds there are ulterior motives. And that is how Dayak lost their lands, their rights because they trust that someone with authority will take care of them. That they will not trick them. We forgive and forget if someone had done us wrong in the past and he now seemed to have repent and turned a new leave. We accept that person wholeheartedly. That is why we keep on choosing the same person to represent us eventhough he had lied and never deliver his promises 5 years ago. We accept his reasons why such-and-such projects cannot be carried out. We trust that he will deliver by giving him another 5 years term. Maybe he was telling the truth. Maybe this time he will be given the "peruntukan".

Lazy, greedy and selfish. these are the perfect words how i discribed the dayak of sarawak to some western foreigners.

even in this blog also, i found some selfish dayak. WHY CAN'T They admit that there are really Lazy people. a thousand of excuses or denial were given.

for that i feel so pity for them. ain't it just easier if they just admitted that most dayak are LAZY People, GreedY People and too selfish to the extent some times make me wonder whether they have BRAIN to make justification.

greedy, why are dayak so greedy, even to or in the circle of their own closed family. Only God Knows, i guess!

Lazy, i think i don't have to describe how LAZY are the dayak, not because i don't want, but don't DARE to describe how lazy are them. it seems to me they prefer to be socialised most of the times and drinking Langkau with their fellow friends.

for those who are willing to admit that dayak are "LAZY PEOPLE, selfish people and greedy people." especially if they themselve are the dayak, i salute them. and i hope by that way it will ease their stress by 60%

Well,

Can we hypothesize that the Ibans are genarraly not lazy but they are rather unproductive.

Or can we also hypathesize that the Ibans are very hardworking but at the same time doing so aimlessly?.

Agree? Fair enough if you do not agree! What can I say?

I suppose this is the reality with the Ibans.
For so long as we do not learn to accept it and trying to change it firstly within ourselves before asking and secondly teaching others to follow suit, it will continue to haunt the ibans for the rest of time.

Yes, we claim to be the first human being to have landed in Borneo island, so when the Ibans are indeed hardworking full of ambitions, then we would not be in a position we are in today. A lot of things should have been owned by the Ibans. But why isn't this so?. The answer probably lies in the fact that the Ibans are rather unproductive coupled with lack of AIMS.

Perhaps, it not too rude to claim that the Ibans are always aiming to be farmers all their life.Iban children are taught the skills to become farmers, thus prolong the continuation of Iban generation to become farmers forever. Only a handul few would teach their children to study hard so that their children could become competitive in the real world outside. And only a small majority would encourage their children to acquire skills decent enough to compete in the global market.

Why must we say that the Ibans are generally AIMLESS?. Any detailed empirical studies done to support this claim?. Any formal figures for us to deny?. So far, there has been no such thing yet as we are now only at the beginning of discussing about the Dayak Iban issues via this blog. Hope things would be more systematic in not too distant future for us with Dr John as our TR.

Yes, we are hardworking but we are not working SMART enough to ensure the efforts are worth it, whereby the final benefits really come into the pockets of the Ibans themselves. This element is still seriously absent in the mind of the illiterate Ibans. Again, yes it is also true to say the the Ibans are hardworking but we have improper planning to chart own own destiny. We seem to prefer other persons, normally from other races to do this for us, thereby alienating the Ibans themselves from getting the bigger chunk of the returns.

Yes, the Ibans are indeed hardworking but we are also known as a community that talk so much about the past. Just ga back this Christmas, and ahve a chit chat with the folks. The ones in their teens and tewnties are definite intercept your conversation with things like hinting trip yesterday, last week, last month and any other things that relate to the past. So you now should see that these people are our future generation. They are only good at talking about the past. This tells so much about how we the Ibans live in the rural areas, supporting our living without thinking or planning about tomorrow, next week, next month or palnning of sending the children to Universities within the next three or four years.

According to a colleague of mine of othe race, she observes that the Obans are always expecting their rather"well to do" close relatives and immediate family members for fincancial assistance to send the their to colleges. That is because, we undeniably never plan for our children. I guess, this sort of case is not too unfamiliar or peculiar to us.

It is kinda sad way of living a life of an Iban which could easily make ones eyes become teary.

Still not true?. Well just spend your Xmas holiday with them and observe from the sidelines.

Hopefully, with the coming of Christmas, Jesus Christ will provide us the drive to help ourselves.

God bless

Cheers...

Agree with BL,

Dayak are generally very hardworking people. Back then, our forefather are the earliest settler on Sarawak soil and they cleared large tract of virgin jungle for planting padi. They used to till the land from dawn till dusk. Even now, those residing in the rural area still carry on hard working culture.

However due to logistic problem, such as no road communication, they face difficulty to market their product. Transportation by river mode could be very expensive making it unattractive to plant cash crop.

When the government have completed constructing road to the rural and unaccessible areas in future, I believe that the life of the Dayak will improve for the better as they will be able to open up mini estate and plant cash crop.

Please give our Dayak brethren the moral support instead of condemning them. Take a good look at yourselves in the mirror. If you don't have one, then buy one.

Thank you.

All Dayaks are lazy? ...Please don't generalize. Only the ignorant generalize!

The long house folks are doing the most difficult work there is. And they still do it everyday to feed their families. They can still afford to buy petrol for RM25 per gallon and the many other necessary goods three or four times the town price. They have to. They may be poor but they are not all lazy. Mind our words.

The so called educated Dayaks should be thinking of ways to ease the poverty and hardship encountered by the long house folks. Brag about what we have done four our relatives at home. And what are our plans for our our children and grandchildren.

Progress is a BIG word. How do we, the longhouse folks progress or put food on out dinner table when we have been denied the opportunities and our living space(land)have been narrowed down to the size of our single foot? Can we last standing with one foot for another 46 years.

We are heading towards DOOM if we keep on ignoring the future of our children and denying that we have been robbed the last 46 years. For us...well, maybe our days are numbered at count-down by the almighty.

Dear Friends,

Again.....Are We (Bansa Dayak) Born Loser?

Take a quit looking through the rear view mirror near you.

There is an obvious reason why the windshield is far bigger than the rear view mirror.

It's because that is where you'd better be looking when you intend to get somewhere safely.

Nevertheless, many people conduct their life constantly looking back. The outcome is inevitable: several wrecks along the way.

Sad events and traumatic experiences in our lives have the dangerous power of sucking us down into a life of constant defeat and hopelessness.

They pull us down in a manner that will significantly affect the outcome of the rest of our lives. If only we let “them”.

It depends on us whether we yield to them or not. Lift up your eyes and look before you.

Picture your life as a path made of cement. The cement behind you is already hardened, you cannot change a thing about it.

But turn around and look up in front of you: there is a long stretch of fresh cement you do have influence upon.

Yes, you can make changes in life. And the best time to start is right now.

But how can we possibly ignore, or forget, experiences that have painfully marked our lives?

Don't they seem to be constantly lurking in the background, only to show up and discourage us when we are about to make a step forward?

If you are struggling with past mistakes or painful experiences from your past, it is time to “Change WE Must”!

It’s also time to meet the Restorer and our Redeemer. His name is Jesus Christ. He will give you the supernatural strength to overcome your past, and the hope to look up front with the absolute conviction that there are good things to come.

You might already know Him, but your life is still a mess. There are issues you just can't overcome.

Maybe you've spent too much time looking through your rear view mirror.

It doesn't matter where you are at right now, or where you come from, He has the power to restore your life back to the fulfillment you were created to live in.

Minta ampun enti aku ngelamatu bisi salah jako, salah sebut tauka salah tulis. Please forgive me and I forgive you too.

May God forgive us all and bless us all with good health, love, peace and righteousness.

Merry Christmas Wai Menyadi!

Dear Friends,

Are We (Bansa Dayak) Destined for Success or Failure?

Who and/or what is success really for? Are there certain people who just have a knack for success?

Are there others who are just destined for success?

Are we born loser, curse with poverty and only good as workforce labor and/or administrator or “reconnaissance scout”? I doubt so....

Is it available for anyone and everyone to be successful? Or is it only for the privileged few? What about you?

Will you succeed or will you fail? We all know that there are people who succeed in life and there are people who fail; this has been true for centuries.

There are a lot of people who believe that some are destined to fail while others are destined to succeed.

So what about you? Which category are you in? Are you destined to succeed or are you destined to fail? How can you tell?

There is someone that you can ask who will tell you which category you are in. In fact, they can tell you with complete confidence and precise accuracy whether you will succeed or whether you will fail.

That person just happens to be the absolute authority on the subject. I highly suggest that you ask and find out so that you will know whether you are destined for success or failure. After all, that would be some pretty important information to find out......wouldn’t it?

Knowing this would certainly help you in the decisions that you make. It would give you a clear picture of your future, our next generation!

You would know, with certainty, exactly what to expect and what not to expect.

Having concrete knowledge of being either a success or a failure will also certainly help to direct your attitude concerning life in general.

If that person informs you that you will be a failure, then you will know to carry a failure attitude and talk of all the negatives of life.

On the other hand, if you discover that you are going to be a success, you can go around positive and happy, expecting one great day after another – after all, you are destined for success!

So, my advice is to ask this person who absolutely knows which it is: whether you are destined to be a failure or a success.

Find out today in which direction you are headed. You really need to know and not guess. Don’t wait!
The person to ask, of course, is you! Yes - Sigi Nuan!!

Your mindset, what you truly believe about yourself determines your course and destination of success or failure.

When you look in the mirror, do you see a failure? Do you see someone mediocre?

Do you see a very successful person? Who do you see? What do you really believe about that person who is looking back at you?

The answer to that question holds the key to the path that you have chosen. All your current circumstances and past experiences do not determine your path – you do.

If you don’t see a successful person staring back at you in the mirror, but you want to - really want to - then here’s the great part: you can change!

Who you really believe you are is your belief system, your mindset that you have built. However, it is possible to build a new one, one thought at a time.

You must tell yourself over and over who it is you really desire to be. The person you are today is a result of your input.

Change your belief system by consciously changing your input, one thought at a time, day by day.

Contrary to what so many believe, when it comes to success or failure, everyone makes their own decision.

We truly need "Chane WE Must"! Thank you.

Equaliser,

Idris Jala to be the next CM for Sarawak?hahahahahahahhahahahahahahahahahahahahaahaha

I suggest you to read the HANSARD first before you IDOLISED him..He has done nothing to save MAS..All he has done while in MAS before was to do some MANIPULATION on PAPER..the truth is MAS is keep on losing money instead of good and steady recovery as being said by PM and Idris Jala himself..

He has been criticised by Sri Gading MP due to the LIES that he has made during his short stint in MAS

I just cant stop laughing now..hahahahhahaa

Well...every society on earth have lazy, greedy and selfish people. I don't agree that these characteristics are the main causes of our lacked of progress.

I think most Dayaks like to think big and noble like helping other Dayaks but the truth is most of us cannot even help ourselves.

Sucess is with individuals - assess your own first and then find a way to elevate yourself. Struggles within yourself, don't depend on others. For me, it is pointless to keep on talking and whining, thinking of helping the unfortunate Dayaks when we ourselves cannot even help ourselves.

The successful Dayaks have distinctly different goals and their success is measured not against Dayaks but others. There are many highly educated Dayaks nowadays, their opportunities are not different from people like Idris Jala, Roni Adrian, Anum Linggoh, Leo Moggie, Ambrose Blikau, Joe Entulu, etc. All of us breadthe the same air, went to universities, etc. Why don't you ask yourself, why aren't you like them or at least trying to follow their path? For me I may not be like them, but I would try to look after myself, mind my own business and won't bother anyone too much.

If I go to town, the chinese speak chinese to me thinking that I am chinese - so in my mind what difference does it make if I am an Iban or not? What the chinese can do, I could also do I think. Therefore - why should I keep on feeling sorry for myself and Dayak people where out there it is not about the race, it is about you as a person; what you can do and achieve.

Dayaks in Johore perhaps have learnt that there is more to being a Dayak. We have to work hard to make a living. That's it.

I hope you realise that it is not about being Dayaks, Malays, Chinese or Indians. Success and failure is about you, yourself!!

But if you want to talk politics - it is a game of twistings. Do read between the lines - politicians do have hidden agendas. Spare yourself some reservations in believing some fiery articles. My advice is be moderate & take care of yourself.

Telaga Kumang: Tinting Tinjau is ready to roll anytime. It is a matter of timing dictated by Marketing strategies. We do not want to fail with Tingting Tinjau as it will become a serious magazine on Dayak literature.

Thank you for your kind concern.
