Change WE Must (4)
Written by Dr John Brian Anthony
Is Change possible in Malaysia?
Yes – Malaysian wanted to make a change because they needed it. But what is stopping the change? You know the Government is the most influential body to make changes through their policies and behaviour.
Who is the Federal Government today?
EEer- Barisan Nasional. Is BN making the necessary change as demanded by Malayisan. Maybe. The government tried to make the change but old habits die hard. They talk from the point of Government “power” and they made “forms” changes rather then ” structural change” and paid lip service / superficial change instead of “internalization” of change.
What are the things that BN need to address urgently and are most crucial to the future of Malaysia?
- Private sector as engine of growth. Today it is down to below 10% from the highest 30% during Tun M time. It means Money is not generated by private sector – so government has to pump in money. Where do they get the money ( our tax and Petronas). That is why misdirected fund of 60% in Sarawak in unacceptable. Sarawak Government should be more responsible to ensure money is used correctly.
- Foreign and Domestic investment. Our business man is bringing money out of Malaysia instead of investing it in the country. In 2008 RM117 billion went out of Malaysia. 1st four months of 2009 – another RM$54 billion taken out. Why – government are not providing investment opportunity, then also “black” money can also be washed properly despite the “law” which can be bent most of the time. BN is running out of idea – influence of “corruption” or acquired “corrupted behavior” that is difficult to change. You think Taib can change??
- Per capita income - also growing very slow. In 1980 we are 1:1 with S.Korea. Now we are 100% behind. S. Korea per capita grow by 104.3% and Malaysiaonly grow by 68.4%. Now we want GST 4% and yet BN say it is not hurting the people of Malaysia. Najib new economics principle I guessed. This happen ALL under BN. When Najib talk about globalization – i wonder whether he knows where our standing is in the world. China has grown its economy size by 15.4 time. Only in Lubok Antu RM$80 million “promised” we beat China record.
- Foreign worker in Malaysia – 2,062 million entered in 2008. They formed 30% of Malaysia’s workforce. Taib is asking another 1.2 million to come in for SCORE. That is a special achievement indeed and how Dayak can benefit is a guessing game. Skilled worker coming into Malaysia has gone down by 60% – a new record achieved by BN.
- Ease of Doing business -Rank 20 out of 183 countries. But when it comes to ” construction permits etc” then Corruption come in Malaysia rank 109 out of 183. Does that make you proud as a Malaysian. Where are the efficient Civil service in this context?
- 6. Fireign Direct Investment ( money from outside invested in our country). in 1980 35.4% went to Malaysia and only 1% went to Vietnam. Now Vietnam received the same amount of investment as Malaysia (RM$8 billion) and soon Vietnam will overtake Malaysia.
Something is seriously wrong with the way BN is governing Malaysia. No wonder many people who has the money are leaving Malaysia in double rate as they see Malaysia under BN would be going to the dog.
How do we fix all these problems?
Definitely not with the same people, same process, same procedure, same business model. That is more reason for Change WE Must.
I know I am treading on BN loyalist toe when i said – we need an immediate change. The loyalist are afraid to change because they would not be able to control the new environment. If there is indeed real changes the loyalist would not be able to change themselves. That is double stressful and not good for health.
Now they must fight to make sure that PR do not come in and change things for them. The loyalist cannot cope with change. They cannot see change opportunities, nor initiate the change. What that’s mean is they are clinging to “POWER” by all means including by CROOK. By crook mean – even by cheating and other illegal mean.
Conclusion
New people with new ideas, new organization, new system, new programmes, new values, new knowledge and skill, new drive can bring back Malaysia to the correct path.
In Sarawak – Taib’s approach to “Politics of Development” is totally unsustainable. Natural resources depleted, people are poor and unskilled, infra-structure are wanting and corruption is rampant. We can only point to one direction – that is down the drain with Taib.
Change WE Must.

DR. John, Could pls insert the references to your figures below?

JS very informative articles you wrote. Bravo.
But seriously with many mentally derrained group of humanoid, DayakLama, Deo, John Jamban and all BN supporters….proposals to improve is totally out of questions.
They are the betrayal of Dayak community and Malaysia as a whole. They use all the power they have now and suck as much as they can and make the PEOPLE of Sarawak and Malaysia in general become the poorest in the world while they themselves remain rich.
Change we must to elimante these leeches.
Merakat
I did not write the article. Dr. John did. I just him to insert references as per doctorate thesis for readers’ references or read more.
Mr JS,
Likewise, we would like the see the references for the following statements made by the Government:
- we have not achieved 30% bumiputra equity (whilst the newspaper kept published how much earned by the top Bumiputra corporate and published the lavish mansion that they loved in as the centre page story)
- we are at par with developed nation (where’s the external benchmark to substantiate the claim)
- our corruption has improved (whilst we dropped further in the world corruption index)
- we produced world-class graduates (again, where’s the external benchmark to substantiate the claim)
- our crime rate has dropped (whilst we see more and more local neighborhood takes security into their own hand by implementing their own gated entrance-exit system)
The Government is also filled with distinguished scholars. Can we see their references too, so that we too, can read more.
CC….likewise you need to go for English refresh course to check on your grammar.”to see” and NOT “the see”. R u like a blind man who can see needle among the stack of hay but cannot see elephent next to the eye lid?
Dear Mr JS
All the figures cited here are not figments of our imagination, these are numbers quoted by DATUK SERI MOHD EFFENDI NORWAWI on the 20th of December in the Sunday Star and by the way this is not a doctorate thesis. Are you able to differentiate between a thesis and an article in a blog?
Yes, even I feel that I need to upgrade my English and will certainly go for grammar courses. As a responsible Malaysian, it is incumbent on ourselves to continually improve ourselves so as to avoid being redundant.
Ok, it’s normal for writers to quote references. Not just give figures. Pls provide the internet link for easy references. It’s quite surprising govt officer giving figures which are not encouraging to the govt.
Even articles in blog should have references. Readers can just accept facts and figures without references. So, pls put references in blog articles to continuously improve ourselves and our writings in particular.
As tip for your continuous improvement, if you write articles, I guess we can use the Spelling check function, which is not avalable in this blog. Even editing after submission is not possible here.
Whjat is a thesis, CIna Chantung? Have you written one before? Pls tell me over Xmas beer….
Cina Chantung & Dr. John

I DID NOT WRITE THE ABOVE POST. SOMEBODY ELSE DID. DR. JOHN, PLS PUBLISH THE EMAIL ADDRESS OF THIS GUY. iF IT’S THE SAME AS MIND, THEN OBVIOUSLY, HE IS USING MY ID.
JS,
Even you yourself is not writing perfect English.Could you refer to your posting on 23rd December, 2009 at 1.25pm.
I just him to insert references…….
…the verb after the word just was missing. So my dear friend do not comment on others will you?
CC,
You are asking me for those statements? I didn’t write them brother so I could provide you the references. Salah pun kayu salak dek nyak!
Well done Doc,
In order to remain in power, they twisted the facts and use of the mainstream media to fool the public…what a desperado. Some people can be fooled, but some can’t.
With the figure provided by DJB, can we say that the 1st and 2nd economic stimulus packages announced by PM as a failure? Perhaps DL/JS can update DB readers with the status of the implementation of both of the economic stimulus packages.
Cheers,
John Hock

Those are typo-errors which can be corrected easily if this blog allows editing.

I “asked” just him to insert references…….
I guess you 2 score high in English exams. SOrry, I’m a product of Malaysian education so my English is not perfect. Neither do I quest for perfection here.
