How West Malaysian look at East Malaysian
Taken from The Malaysian Insider
The thing that caught my attention during my time in Sarawak the past week was that I kept referring to my home in Selangor as Malaysia. Actually what I probably meant by that was that the Semenanjung, the 11 states in it, is Malaysia.
I could not help it. Therefore, I must find remedies within me.
Self Healing
I’ll start the self-healing by examining the nature, the causality of my predicament. That it might be more than just a series of linguistic blunders.
So the Peninsula (west) is Malaysia: is it just me, or is it a notion held by most of us on the west?
When we here, in KL, talk about western imperialism, we inevitably conjure images of the US army, Coke (old and new) and the next new Fox super serial. Read more

When is the State Election
Written by Dr. John Brian Anthony
Predicting Election date is similar to predicting Magnum 4D numbers
I was asked this question last night – and really I have too many answers and not even one of the answer that I was going to give is a certainty. Why so?
Nearly everyone has their own date – like the “Magnum 4 D and Toto” prediction, everyone has their theory or reasoning for mentioning the possible date of election. One remain true is that, the newspaper that is control by the government is already picking up their propaganda activities to individual politician level.
Perfect candidate
Example: Rayong says “I am the perfect candidate in Engkilili, because I am local” If that is the criteria for a good candidate then they will thousands of “perfect candidate” any body who is local to the constituency is a perfect candidate.
Then Rayong says: ” I am BN – only BN YBs are given MRP allocation – and I am giving them out”. Do you think areas held by Opposition is not getting any development? Bintulu under YB Chiew Chin Sing (DAP) is doing very well and much better then Engkilili. Read more

What happened to the promised to complete Jalan Lapok?
Written by Dr. John Brian Anthony
Busy Road
Jalan Lapok – is passable mainly by 4WD. During rainy days you it gets very muddy and the pot hole is deep and big. Who uses this road? Mainly Dayak. Are these rich Dayak? I don’t think so, but to get to Miri from Long Lama you will have to pat $100 per person on “pirate vehicles”.
The road condition has caused many damage to vehicles, accidents, waste of time for the very long journey due to “bad” road condition. The government – through Samy ak Vellu promised to repair and upgrade the road. Till today, there is no news at all on the progress of the promised.
Why did the government promised the people?
The government wanted to get vote from those living along the Lapok road. Did the people voted for BN? Yes they do. But did the government remember that the voters has not been given what they want – the government keep quiet beacuse it has no money.
Sometime I do think that it is on purpose that the government choose not to repair or upgrade the road. If they do, then the people will progress and become economically independent. Read more

Microphones Arrested – Anwar stopped from giving Ceramah
Taken from: Malaysia Today. (By Anwar Ibrahim)

Government Project Promised category
Written by Dr. John Brian Anthony
Inventorized the government promises
I have added a new category for Dayakbaru to fill in all the government project promised. We try to put the name of town to which the project belong to. then we will trace the promise, to see that it is done and completed well.
We must hold the government accountable
We must remember that 60% of our development allocation is diverted or missing. We voters suffer because of this – we must hold the government accountable. we then can either elect them again or pull them down from being the government. We are the “BOSS” and politicians are our “Servants”. We must do what we need to do, not to vote for the government or otherwise we will continue to suffer from the selfish politicians actions.

Why is it almost impossible to get land grant in Sarawak
Taken from The Malaysian Insider (By Asrul Hadi Abdullah Sani)
Dayakbaru article below written by Dr. John Brian Anthony
Pakatan Rakyat grant land to 6,000 families in Ijok, Selangor
SUNGAI BULUH, Jan 24 — Selangor Mentri Besar Tan Sri Khalid Ibrahim announced today that the state government will launch a major project to help residents of Ijok and Kuala Selangor to obtain land grants.
The Ijok assemblyman said that his office will soon release a schedule for the 6,000 families who start receiving land grants beginning this month.
“At the end of the year, more than 90 per cent of the land grant problems in Kuala Selangor will be resolved.
“Many excuses were given back then. They (Barisan Nasional) had more than 50 years but the problems (land grants) were still not resolved but it took us only 30 months to solve the issue,” he told reporters here.
He added the resolution of the issue is important because it is the state government’s responsibility to do so.
“With the issuance of the land grants, we can bring much needed developments to these areas,” he said.
Khalid also stressed that the state aims to take this program state-wide.

Borneo Forum Revisits M’sia Agreement Pledges
By Joe Fernandez
Jan 24, 10 (From Malaysiakini)
Borneo Forum (BF), an all-Borneo NGO umbrella body, made the Malaysia Agreement the focus of its deliberations in Kota Kinabalu yesterday.
BF brings together the Borneo Heritage Foundation (BHF), the Sarawak Dayak National Union (SDNU) and observers from Kalimantan.
The ad hoc meeting in KK resolved that the Malaysia Agreement will be raised by a Sabah-Sarawak delegation at a briefing at the House of Commons in London on March 19.
The London meeting was set up by Hindu Rights Action Front (Hindraf) chair P Waythamoorthy (right) who said that Hindraf will also be represented.

“We will prepare a joint memorandum for the London meet,” said BF protem chair Jeffrey Gapari Kitingan. “Two researchers are in London to gather material from the Rhodes Library in Oxford.”
Sarawak environmentalist John Anthony Brian briefed the meet on the progress made by the two Sarawak researchers in London. Read more

Dayak have been gullible, opportunist, self centered & easily exploited by others since time in memorial…

Paranoid Politicians
I am not at all surprised when Nyarok Enterie won the VP post in recent SPDP TGM with full backing of Tiong King Sing. After all, the contender, who is my friend Philip Ngo is just testing the water. I am not surprise when Enteri Muran aka Mohd Abdullah and Nyarok Enteri resisted the motivational programmes conducted by Dayak Intellectuals – as they viewed such programmes as ‘eye opener’ “wake up call” for the longhouse folks & student – they are dammed worried that their weaknesses be revealed to their voters! Typical of paranoid politicians and Jabu Numpang is the father of all paranoids!
Naïve & gullible
Whether we like or not, we have been very naïve, gullible and easy prey of sweet talks by others to serve their own need as far as our history can remember. I won’t discount the prowess of our fore father’s courage during the founding years of ‘ngerumpang batang, ngerumpang agang’, but in every strength we possessed now and then, people easily exploit us and may continue to do so out of our own foolishness and the tunnel vision our leaders had. We should make a police report
Written by Dr. John Brian Anthony
Is it leal to destroy other people houses
From a long house upbringing, it has always being drummed upon us not to destroy or abuse things and properties that belong to others. It is really an offence that attract the elders to impose “fine” on the offender. We have specific “adat” to address such action.
First: Is our Dayak ADAT applicable in this case.
Second: Does it gives the “land developer” the rights to destroy the houses without consultation.
Third: Does it gives the Land & Survey the right to destoy any body long house / houses when the owners are seeking court decision?
Fourth: What is the police doing – are they involved in a “legal action: or are they part of the “illegal” team by default.
Summary
I have laid the basis of our action to make a police.
Now we need Dayakbaru to take up this action.

Pakatan Rakyat Preparing for Sarawak Election
Taken from The Malaysian Insider
By Adib Zalkapli
KUALA LUMPUR, Jan 22 — The Pakatan Rakyat (PR) is expected to conclude its seats allocation for Sarawak in two months’ time, as some party leaders expect the state assembly could be dissolved as early as June this year, a year ahead of its five-year term.
Seat Negotiation
Both PKR and DAP who contested against each other and Barisan Nasional (BN) in some federal seats in Election 2008 will enter their third round of negotiations at the end of this month.
The current state assembly’s term expires in July next year.
Agreement hopefully by March
“We hope to reach an agreement by March,” said Sarawak PKR chief Baru Bian, adding that the party is also having separate negotiations with PAS and local opposition party Snap, which had recently declared its intention to officially join PR.
But Baru said despite the seat allocation agreement, the opposition coalition will also have to face the newly-registered Parti Cinta Malaysia (PCM), which he claimed will act as a spoiler in the election. Read more
