Tr Nor is a famous name who resisted and fought a legal battle with the government and won their case. The government subsequently appeal the judgment. It seems that Tr. Nor was not aware of the judgment given to the government appeal. Yesterday, the government went in and destroy his longhouse, 39 doors out of 59 doors.
Dayakbaru:
The time has come for us Dayakbaru to think over our response as the authorities are taking drastic action against their own native citizen and people. The government did all this in the name of development. It does not matter that the people suffer – their long house brought down and they are called “Illegal squatters”.
Tr.Nor long house is built on his ancestors land. If it happens to Tr. Nor, it will happen to other long houses too. Do we let the authority act in a cruel manner without any response? We should sit down and think of what are the things we can do to counter this cruel action by our elected government.
Please forward your suggestion and these suggestion could be forwarded to our Dayak YB or a direct memorandum to the PM and Yang Dipertuan Agung. We cannot remain helpless and allow such thing to happen to our people of Sarawak. We must stand up and fight.
Why is the government siding with BIG Business while the poor is being stepped upon?
Police have to step in to diffuse the high tension at an illegal settlement in Tatau, near Bintulu as angry mob threathen Land and Survey official from carrying out demolition works.
Government feel that they can do no wrong – it is the poor long house folks that is wrong
Superintendent of Land and Survey Bintulu, Haji Ajmaen Haji Superi told Sarawak Update that police confiscated some home made rifles apart from dangerous weapon used to intimidate enforcement official from carrying out their duty.
“Our Kobe (excavator) driver were threathen with a Parang and we could not proceed with the demolition work,” he said.
39 out of 59 houses demolished – government felt victorious
He said they were supposed to demolish 59 houses but decided to bring down only 39 yesterday due to the resistant from the affected families.
He said the problem could be prevented if the residents lawyer inform their client about the court decision as many were claiming they were not in the know of the court notice.
Department carry out their duties – but they do not carry out their duty to give the long house land title
“We are only carrying out our duty. The court has made its decision. The court have communicated to the lawyer, and it is the lawyer duty to inform their clients that they lost the case,” he explained, adding that failure to vacate the land is contempt of court.
Police provide guarding duties to the department – who then guard the Iban from the long house?
In the mass operation, about 70 enforcement officers guarded by police arrive to the scene to carry out demolition work. They however were unable to enter the site due to hostile reaction from the dwellers.
Negotiation between the affected residents and officials later arrived at an agreement that all vacant units would be pulled down immediately while the rest would be given three days notice.
Dr. Stephen Rundi – has NOT managed to solve ONE single Dayak land problem in Bintulu
Kemena Assemblyman, Dr Stephen Rundi when contacted confirmed that the officials were only discharging their duties.
In his SMS to Sarawak Update, Dr Rundi stated: “Those are empty langkau and I enquired from the dept, they were given repeated notices and I understand currently they postponed some of them to give them time to remove their belongings, the oppstn will capitalise on this seemingly sensitive issue, painting bad picture on govt by giving purposely wrong information.”
YBs hiding behind court order – it is their duty to organize these voters to move progress, but they don’t.
Jepak Assemblyman, Datuk Talib Zulpilip meanwhile stressed in his SMS that: ” L&S acted on court order as they on state land. Many of the structures are abandoned langkaus.”
What would PKR response be now?
Sarawak Update is still waiting for feedback from Baru Bian, the affected residents lawyer and an email was sent to PKR Sarawak communication director, See Chee How, who happened to be Baru partner. Baru Bian is PKR Sarawak liaison chief.
First email was sent at 12.01 noon while the second email was sent at 2.06pm. We have yet to receive any feedback from either Baru or See Chee How as this story was updated at 6.15pm. Only Baru can give their side of the story.

Maybe the Iban that so called warrior or Agi Idup Agi Ngelaban spirit has burnt out. We should not follow the semananjung style on ALLAH issue but follow what Mahatma Ghandi has done to liberate India. Dear Iban, Please wake up and cooperate to reject oppression. I have heard too many of the so called oppression not only affect the disadvantage Iban but all natives in the state. Infact it’s not oppression but lack of knowledge in many aspects.

Jaringan Tanah Hak Adat Bangsa Asal Sarawak (TAHABAS)
Press Statement:
We, the Central Executive Committee the Sarawak Native Customary Land Rights Network (TAHABAS)are disappointed that the present caretaker government is not concern about the issue of native customary rights (NCR) in Sarawak and branding them as a non-issue or an outdated issue.
We are also disappointed especially with the caretaker Deputy Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Alfred Jabu on his statement in the Borneo Post dated April 26, 2006 daring the opposition parties or anyone to lodge police reports if the government had ‘snatched’ people’s land.
His statement points to the ignorance of the numerous letters, petitions, press statements, police reports and court cases brought by the native communities throughout Sarawak to the government for the violation of their native customary rights (NCR).
We wish to remind the caretaker Deputy Chief Minister that the native communities throughout Sarawak have lodge numerous complaints and file police reports throughout the years demanding that the police and the relevant authorities investigate the violation of their NCR and also their human rights.
The natives have also brought the matter up to court and to date there are not less than 100 cases filed and are still pending throughout Sarawak involving land disputes between the natives, the private sector and the State Government.
So, how could NCR issues be outdated or a non-issue if at present these issues lies unresolved and the native’s customary lands continued to be “snatched” away by the arbitrarily issuances of Provisional Leases for large-scale plantations or Logging Licences by the State Government to the private companies over the NCR lands of the natives?
The Malaysian Human Rights Commission (SUHAKAM) has also acknowledged that the main complaints received from the people of Sarawak on human rights violations involved land rights particularly NCR.
We wish to reiterate our demands that the State Government of Sarawak must:
1. protect our native customary rights to land, forest and the environment;
2. delineate and record officially our native customary rights land claims with the official documents submitted to the community, with this, conflict on overlapping claims between the longhouse/village residents, private corporations and the government can be resolve amicably;
3. urgently order the plantation and logging companies that are operating in our native customary land to stop their activities;
4. take action on logging companies which are extracting timbers illegally or conducting illegal logging activities on our native customary land;
5. halt the arbitrary issuance of Provisional Leases, Planted Forest Licenses and Logging Licenses to plantation companies and the government agencies which affect our native customary land;
6. pay adequate and just compensation for the damages and destruction done to our land and resources because of the so called “development projects” implemented by the private corporations or the government;
7. inform and meet transparently with all levels of our longhouse/village communities on native customary rights land development schemes that is going to be implemented in our territories, and subsequently respecting the communities’ decisions with regard to the development of their native customary land;
8. obtain our prior informed consent about a project or the government’s plan which involves our native customary rights land to every longhouse/village in areas which are affected by such plans.
The State Government cannot hide from the fact that NCR is an issue that needs to be resolve soon.
Ignorance would mean that the State Government has failed the people and this issue would keep on resurfacing not only during the election period but every single day.

The demolishment of 59 Iban families longhouse at Rh. Nor Anak Nyawai, Sg. Sekabai, Sebauh, Bintulu, Malaysia with excavator without humanity by Taib gomen on January 20, 2010 is one of the sad history in our country and remind Dayak that;
1. Taib gomen show no pity to see the Dayak thread in this way. This is to show that Taib gomen is very angry and dislike Dayak people.
2. Taib gomen destroy the Iban Longhouse openly infront all the Dayak eye. This is to show that Taib gomen invite Dayak especially Iban to fight as we before.
3. Taib gomen without consider the feeling of other Dayak on this matter. This is to show that Taib gomen do not afraid to confront with Dayak with whatever means.
4. Taib gomen non stop to discriminate Dayak eventho the word Allah is not settle yet, he already start new discrimination. This is to show that Taib gomen is planning to destroy all Dayak in this world.
5. Even if the longhouse is illegal, Taib gomen shall respect them thro humanity means. But he not. This is to show that Taib gomen do not respect Dayak people without humanity consideration.
Meanwhile, more than 100 Muslim families were given land title from state land at Balai Ringin, Serian in 1990s.
For Taib, Dayak is worst than the dog.
He knows that this is the time to destroy Dayak meanwhile the Dayak Leaders are in the weakest time and cannot effort to protect Dayak Right.
For Dayak,
1. Taib is not only a failed leader but corrupted as bad as Marcos and Suharto. Stolen at least USD$20B public money from Sarawak. He is the father of Dayak Discrimination.
2. Joining Malaysia in 1963 was a big mistake. Un-educated Tun Jugah was forced to draw out the agreement without study the agreement professionally and informed the whole Dayak properly. This was the UMNO chance makes use of Sarawak Chinese to wrap Sarawak money to develop Malaya as we see today.
3. UMNO are nothing else to do rather usually makes use of Sarawak Malay-Melanau looking for the opportunity to discriminate Dayak instead of helping Dayak.
4. BN is a place where the Dayak Leader make use of Chinese Business to wrap poor Dayak property to enrich themself instead of protect Dayak Right.
Dayak shall recall back the worst time we live in Malaysia.
1. 1950s, Iban Tracker, Sarawak Ranger, British Army and Malaysia First Ranger were established by British in Malaya to help Malay protect Malaya from colonized by communist. 70 % of them were Iban with “Agi Idup Agi Ngelaban” slogan.
2. 1960s, Tun Jugah, as a Paramount Dayak Leader was being cheated by UMNO to sign the agreement accept Sarawak as part of Malaysia. Now, Sarawak has lost it autonomy, lost 90% of it income from Oil, gas, logging and now land to develop Malaya. Sarawak turn to poorest state in Malaysia and one of the poorest region in South East Asia.
3. 1960s, Border Scout was formed and most of them were Iban to help Malay protect Sarawak during confrontation with Indonesia under Suharto presidency.
4. 1960s, Iban Chief Minister of Sarawak, late Datuk Stephen Kalong Ningkan was being forced to leave his office by UMNO and PBB Malay and replaced by unknown Iban leader Datuk Tawie Seli in order to give way for Melanau.
5. 1960s, Tun Rahman Yakuub was appointed as CM of Sarawak. This was the starting point, 18 points Sarawak joining Malaysia forgotten. If CM Malay Governor must be Dayak. This was the beginning of Melanau Dynasty to rule Sarawak.
6. 1970s, Bong Hee Chock as a communist leader in Sarawak was defeated by Border Scout in Simanggang. All the communist were given land and money, settle in Kuching to live while Iban Border Scout were forgotten.
7. 1970s, Borneo Literature Bureau was abolished by Taib as a CM of Sarawak to stop the spreading of Iban languages thro Nendak Magazine and replace with Dewan Bahasa Dan Pustaka. All Nendak magazine and Bup Ensera Iban were destroyed under Dewan Bahasa Dan Pustaka.
8. 1970s, Tun Mohathir appointed PM of Malaysia. This was the beginning of discrimination of Dayak to a worst condition and sending of Malaya in a big group working in Sarawak to replace Dayak.
9. 1980s, All Dayak house in Sarawak were demolished in the purpose of business by Taib. To give contract or land to rebuild the house are not approved by Taib gomen.
10. 1980s, Rahman Yakuub and Taib give 99% of Dayak forest licenced to his family related company and sell the licenced to Chinese as a logging operator.
11. 1980s, Petronas was formed and set up in Sarawak to reduce the capacity of Sarawak Shell. This was the beginning of Orang Malaya take over all the big post and valuable oil and gas business in Sarawak to cost Sarawak lost billions of ringgit.
12. 1980s, Dayak leader from Dayak base party, SNAP was being systematically “disabong belaya” by Taib and Rahman Yakuub to split and rule Dayak in Sarawak. This was the beginning of Dayak discriminated by Taib in hardest way, put Dayak leaderless and disunited until now.
13. 1990s, Taib gomen change the Dayak NCR Land to international land title for development. This is the beginning of Taib gomen forced Dayak to sell their NCR Land in a cheap price to business man from outside Sarawak for develop Taib business Oil Palm Estate and Hydro Dam. Here Batang Ai and Bakun Dam were build with NCR Land selling price 300RM per acres. Taib gomen refuse to survey NCR Land. NCR Land without title are considered State Land and robe by Taib gomen in harsh way.
14. 2000s, Iban longhouse in Batu Niah was attacked by gangster sponsored by Taib gomento robe their NCR land. Iban longhouse demolished with bulldozer by Taib gomen in Niah and Bintulu. 10 years old Penan girl from Baram borned baby after being rape by Taib Logging Operator without arrested.
15. 2000s, Malaysia reported that Dayak Iban is the poorest group in Malaysia. Only 5% of Taib gomen job, Taib gomen scholarship, Taib business opportunity, Taib gomen contract, Taib Higher learning opportunity, Taib gomen project were given to 50% of Dayak population in Sarawak. 85% were given to only 30% Malay-Melanau population in Sarawak.
16. 2000s, PR formed, come to Sarawak and wish to improve the Dayak life after stop BN from holding 2/3 of KL power.
17. 20.1.2010, Taib gomen in a hash and un-humanity way destroyed the 59 doors Iban longhouse in Bintulu.
In this situation, Dayak shall give full support to PR and forget about new force to counter attack this barbarian gomen. Only PR is a steady place for Dayak to united and fight their right at the moment.

Ibans should adopt new tactics to protect their life & properties from being demolished by BN gomen. Now, we cant depend on the court anymore. We cant trust the police anymore, they dont protect us but follow order to KILL our people in the daylight..worst than the suicide bombers.
We may win the court case once but the gomen will appeal the court decision using the public money…wosrt case scenario the gomen bribe the judge to favor the gomen to rob our NCR lands…now not only the lands but also destroyed Ibans’ longhouses.
We dont know how long the gomen carry out the mission until all Ibans displace completely from their homeland? The way they do it is very structured & well planned…one after another…bila Iban sudah lupa….they start again. The Ibans should be united….anang meda aja wai….this time you can laugh at your neigbour…tomorrow could be your longhouse…do pre-emptive strike; to attack rather than waiting to be attacked by our enemies!
The new tactics? we should set up our own militant base secretly or openly (as I have suggested from my early post). Set up the fund to cater for training (the volunteers to become militants)- to do all the counter-attacks on our enemies….who destroyed Iban livelihood.
we can hire the expertise from abroad and recruit the Iban ex-service men to give training…

Until finally, your and I are kampar in our own LAND. Cuvility is not on the letter of the court but the spirit of justice and righteousness. Until today which settlement and longhouse are protected by law? Which longhouse is built on land with QT?
Each of Dayak longouse’s legal status is as precaurious as that of Rumah Nor Nyawai. Implement that Law, the right to demolish ALL Dayak longhouse applies. Those that the authority aka BN views as recalcitrant would share similar fate.
Think carefully friends. Use your head not the RM sign to think. Destroy the Dayak social fabrics, these Dayak YBs would also be gone too.
Temerloh High Court decision not to provide amenities to Orang Asli’s Community Hall is based on the fact that there was no QT, technically that land belongs to the government. Closer look reveals pun rian and lensat as big as 3 pemerap standing nearby. These trees belong to the urang asli since time immemorial.
Whose land is that then? They will do the same to our land.

Please stick to the story and to seek out the facts ! I’m interested to know who are the Ibans who live at Rh Nor ak Nyawai, who resist and who cooperate.Perhaps those who live nearby can approach and get myKad details of the people living there – and details of their family members including children.
Remember: at one time, the whole story of the longhouse demolition was discredited by the mass media when by some account, Tr Nor ak Nyawai himself came forward and said the whole incident was a farce, conjured up by the opposition ! And by some account, he would swagger in LA by-election, in the manner that only a well-fed BN sucker Tr would.
Now, lets collectively, compile facts with pictures, affidavits, testimonies in audio,video and print. And post and discuss it here – and keep it for the future generations to learn, what really transpire. Fight the spin, and apologists for the oppressors, with facts and truth.

Not too late, to re-construct this case from the longhouse resident themselves.
At this stage, many questions remains unanswered. Nevertheless, this CASE is an extremely important one to learn from. It may well have historical significant, and legal precedent, years from now. I really don’t give a hoot about the kangaroo court decision, since the land laws were carefully crafted since 1958,to deny Dayak their legal ownership to their land heritage – and be tricked, cajoled and forced – in some cases (by superficially high land premium),to part with their last parcel.
To get to the raw, “in-your-face” truth, is what truly counts now, so others can form their judgement,if such an act,can continue to be tolerated, in another time, another sungai – the courts be damned. Why there was no TV1 and TV3 coverage? The same case, but different situation in Kpg. Buah Pala in Pulau Pinang, where each move by the officials to demolish the houses ( officials are just doing their duties) were recorded by TV1 and TV3 and aired the slot in the news.
Is it because Sarawak is ruled by BN government and fear of criticism by the people for could not solve the NCR land problems with the people? Is it because Pulau Pinang is ruled by PR`s government and let the whole world to see that PR`s government could not help the people in Pulau Pinang in particular and in the Malaysia as a whole?

When demolition of squatters, stalls in cities and towns where there are small space and expensive land for the sake of better improvement of larger publics, this is understood enough BUT this still hurt human feelings.

In Malaya, if there is any dispute, the people’s representative will go to the ground to help them to settle it. But here, the YBs keep their mouth, eyes & ears shut to the rakyat. What they do is just siding the big companies and not making any efforts to create a win-win situation for the disputing parties.
During GE, they always said “undi meh pengari tu awak ka tau nulung rayat”…now they don’t tolong rakyat, but tolong towkays…& tolong isi poket sendiri..
Just change the “pengari” in the next GE.

All that I knew, Dr. Rundi had been very busy in Bintulu with the Deputy Prime Minister`s visit and most of the state dignitaries were there.

They are just langkau umai built on the NCL that were owned even bofore Sarawak joint Malaysia in 1963 so the land could still be recognized as NCL.
One cannot simply take back the lands and dump them as State lands just coz others want to develop them for good. These lands need to be developed in a fair manner for the NCL owners. The lands have been owned by the owners ever since as early as the colonial times. Don’t tell me that the laws and rules set in colonial or Rajah Brooke govt tuime are obselete. If that could happen, the faith of the people will be in the hand of the governance. If the opposition party rule the country, another new laws would be formed to fight for the rayat or to dump their right on their lands. One cannot simply used the laws that were just formed after Sarawak had joined Malaysia in 1963. Such rights to own NCL must be retained/preserved. In fact, the ruling authority must fight for its’ rayat than to dump them, taking away their right unscrupulously by the laws that were just formed yesterday suiting their nselfish need to getting rich as fast as possible.
