KUALA LUMPUR, Jan 22 — The Pakatan Rakyat (PR) is expected to conclude its seats allocation for Sarawak in two months’ time, as some party leaders expect the state assembly could be dissolved as early as June this year, a year ahead of its five-year term.
Seat Negotiation
Both PKR and DAP who contested against each other and Barisan Nasional (BN) in some federal seats in Election 2008 will enter their third round of negotiations at the end of this month.
The current state assembly’s term expires in July next year.
Agreement hopefully by March
“We hope to reach an agreement by March,” said Sarawak PKR chief Baru Bian, adding that the party is also having separate negotiations with PAS and local opposition party Snap, which had recently declared its intention to officially join PR.
But Baru said despite the seat allocation agreement, the opposition coalition will also have to face the newly-registered Parti Cinta Malaysia (PCM), which he claimed will act as a spoiler in the election.

“We don’t expect many independent candidates this time, but most probably Parti Cinta Malaysia will play the role of splitting the votes,” said Baru.
The Malaysian Insider understands that there are five overlapping seats, claimed by both PKR and DAP. Baru said that there is no problem of overlapping seats with Snap or PAS.
Baru expects the state election to be called in mid-June this year, soon after the harvest festival, Gawai.
Last Election – seat allocation
In the last state election in 2006, DAP fielded 12 candidates; PKR, 25; Snap, 29; and PAS, one. Twenty independents also tried their luck. There are 71 seats in the Sarawak assembly.
“The negotiation is still ongoing, and as far as our party is concerned, we do not see any problem, we believe all parties will come to a wise decision soon,” said state DAP chief Wong Ho Leng.
“It is good to settle [the allocation] now although we are not in a hurry,” he told The Malaysian Insider.
Seat allocation are not taken in a hurry
In Election 2008, negotiations between PKR and DAP collapsed at the last minute, resulting in the two parties facing each other in Sibu and Stampin parliamentary seats. Barisan Nasional (BN) won both seats.
Wong pointed out that the upcoming state election is crucial for the future of PR.
“Whether we can gain power at the federal level or not in the next general election, will very much depend on this Sarawak election,” he said but admitted that taking over the state government is almost impossible.
Coming election is important for Pakatan Rakyat
“I have to admit that it is very hard to shift the power, but I dare say that there will be a change in the support towards DAP,” said Wong.
However, he was confident the party will do better than the 2006 election when the opposition collectively won nine seats, its best performance in the state.
“We will double our [number of] representatives this time,” said Wong.
What would be this coming election issues?
In 2006, most urban Chinese voters abandoned BN due to the increase in land premium payment and oil price hike, which took place just two months before the state assembly was dissolved.

I believe the Sarawak state general election is to be held this year judging from the state ministers and BN YBs have been intensifying their `turun padang` to meet the rakyat lately. So, Pakatan Rakyat must make an early preparation and crop up some small issues among its partners. Good luck!!
The opposition should be extra vigilant and be proactive in executing your move. It’s an uphill task..that we must admit! But, it is possible for you to capture more seats and defeat the CM.

You missed a couple of big points here.
1.Not all Dayaks live in longhouses
2.Not all dayaks are genuinely Dayaks ( got many murtads !)
Thus, if you only campaign in longhouses,your YDK will lose many votes in the election.You have to target the murtads too.
By the way, what kind of info can a kindy disseminate to those little children in kindies?

i have’nt finalise my thought yet which party to vote for. though i love to see the BN secure 2/3 fo the seats and win the GE.
this has no other purpose but for the “Continous Development Of This State”. furthermore this state needs some tremendous development and CM’s policy “Politic Of Development” deem appropriate and mostly rural dayaks loved the continous development, they have a stigma of “Anang Ngelaban Perintah, Jang!” which personally i think are good and right.

Whereas we in Sarawak has different goals.
Just kick BN Sarawak off the scoreboard and we will rule ourself like PBS under Pairin in Sabah once before. Look at Penang …opposition rules. Learn from the past and we shall prevailed.
This is just a renewal of mandate by the Sarawak peoples to the BN. BN formula to develop its peoples and to win big votes is something that the opposition is neglecting or don’t know about.
THe opposition is good about using the words of hatred and this DB as the opposition mouth piece are infact carrying their campaigned against BN gomen immediately the day after their candidate declared lost in the last SE until this time. In terms of preparation, they were well prepared long before the election.
The last BA by election they still lost, why? This is because while BN busy about bringing development to the rakyat, this DB are talking endlessly here day after days and year after years until the next election comes, they are still talking and doing nothing.
The BN is doing the opposite way, day after days and year after years the BN are carrying plywoods, zinc sheets, roads, telephone transmission signal tower, weedicide, fertilizers, free medicine, flying lutor visit, agriculture visits and countless more until the rurals folks feels comfortable and don’t know where to nail those plywoods and zinc sheets.
That was the very reason why BN is still the choice of the peoples.

OK, with respect to politics, nothing in this world would never come to an end!. Even dynasties in some part of the world have changed numerous times. What more to say about a BN government based on corruption ad nepotism as its foundation. Surely, one day it will crumble as well.
Hope God could give another 20 years before he will be gone to see what might happen in Sarawak.You and I are not statutes. You and I will be gone after a few years. Look, YDK is 71 years old. Soon he will leave us as well. Perhaps you now just concentrate in giving him a nice send-off. Persuade him to appear in front of GOD so as to ask forgiveness before it is too late.

Like wise, the policy in distributing crappy MRPs will also be gone as they might not be effective in convincing the Iban Monkeys anymore. In early 2000s only Kelantan in the opposition. Sarawak will experience it after the next GE.

This is only my personal opinion:
In order to win more seats in the next SE, PR should accommodate opposition parties under its umbrella and use one symbol to show that the component parties are united. (we can see bn use “dacing”). It means that we use 2-party system in the next SE. Thus, not many votes will split. It also helps to increase the level of confidence among the voters towards PR as a single party that represents them to fight for justice against BN.
Besides that, PR needs to inform the voters about its plan for sosio-economic development that it will implement should it defeat BN. PR campaign should not focus on the mismanagements by BN only, but must include its plans for developing the urban & rural economy, poverty eradication, education, creation of employment opportunities, etc. People want to know your development agenda.
As we can see in the previous by-E in LA, one of the most effective tools used by BN to fish votes is the “instant noodle” projects & $$$. Have PR prepare its “missile” to make a “counter-attack” and destroy the BN weapons of instant noodle & $$$? Other wise, DL & group will be laughing again after the next SE.

Stand firm by our demands, there must be a receipe to dismantle these obsolete leaders in BN. The Irony is, they speak louder than their action to cover their weaknesses. Look at Balai Ringin, majority Iban but lacking in basic infrastructure!
