When is the State Election

Written by Dr. John Brian Anthony

Predicting Election date is similar to predicting Magnum 4D numbers

I was asked this question last night – and really I have too many answers and not even one of the answer that I was going to give is a certainty. Why so?

Nearly everyone has their own date – like the “Magnum 4 D and Toto” prediction, everyone has their theory or reasoning for mentioning the possible date of election. One remain true is that, the newspaper that is control by the government is already picking up their propaganda activities to individual politician level.

Perfect candidate

Example: Rayong says “I am the perfect candidate in Engkilili, because I am local” If that is the criteria for a good candidate then they will thousands of “perfect candidate” any body who is local to the constituency is a perfect candidate.

Then Rayong says: ” I am BN – only BN YBs are given MRP allocation – and I am giving them out”. Do you think areas held by Opposition is not getting any development? Bintulu under YB Chiew Chin Sing (DAP) is doing very well and much better then Engkilili.

What Rayong has said is, politics is all about MRP. It starts and end in MRP. How shallow is such a political approach no wonder he feels it is alright to become a frog. He made the Engkilili voters looks like fools – those who voted for him felt cheated and those who voted against him felt that he is not their chosen representative.

Rayong however like to feel good about himself. I am sure he would feel that article is attacking him when in fact he is used as an example of a candidate that we should not see in the next election.

You cannot lie to the people

Rayong lied to the people. His campaign was using “Opposition platform and issues” and immediately after winning he switches side. That is a behavior of a  politician without principle – how long will he last? When a politician do not even know his personal stand in politics do you expect him to have a vision for the people.

Rayong might think that the MRP that he dole out is the best thing for voters of Engkilili. MRP will help to ease the short term inconvenience of the environmentment imposed by poverty on the people but in the long term it has little effect.

What should a good politician be?

When a political leader is without vision, is not competent and start his political career using a “fork tongue” he has no future. He has no right to be where he is. I would be very surprise if veteran political leaders would allow a minnow fork tongue political creature from Engkilili to crawl around in the corridor of power as the strength of the BN political team would be affected by its weakest link – that is Rayong.

Such a leader could be easily bought as his frogging do not seem to be based on any political principles except that of personal survival.

Dayak political struggle

The political struggle in Sarawak do not start and end with election. Election is a process of choosing the government while political parties and ordinary voters continue to shoulder the responsibility of bringing progress to the state and its people on a continuous basis.

What it means is Voters must know what they want from their government and if the government fail to deliver their promises within a reasonable time, then it is time for us to change the government.

Politics is not about oneself

In every election we have people who offer themselves as candidates. This is a good sign as it means many people are willing to serve the people. If such a person  do not win an election and continue with his work to improve his targeted voters he is deemed to be meeting his promise to serve the people. You can serve the people in whatever capacity, even as a member of Parent Teacher’s Association, etc. The bottom line is you play an active role in society to ensure its progress.

State Election

All political parties are preparing their election strategy in ernest now. Some say what their strategy are and most don’t.

This would be the first time that there will be no “anxiety” among the Opposition on what party will be used to compete for seats against BN. It is Pakatan Rakyat. For Parti Cinta Malaysia, I am sure our brilliant outside the box thinking G. Adit will be putting his leadership into areal test.

It is easy to be a follower – but to take a lead in an orgainzation is a different ball game all together. My best wishes is with Adit. Whatever his strategy – a spolier, a real winner – is secondary as long as he is true to his political principles and struggle. But if he is in politics to keep himself alive, that is a different matter all together.

Political retirement

I do not think that those who has been active in politics will retire from giving service to the public easily. That is part of their being to serve the people. But politician must know how to exit politics gracefully and play their role constructively thereafter.

Every election will give rise to such possibility. Imagine YB Ambrose Blikau position. I think he would love to continue to serve. What the leadership needs in their agenda might be different. For Blikau if that is true that he might not be an election candidate anymore from PBB/BN then he must think his exit strategy very well. In that way he will remain effective in politics in a constructive way.

Conclusion

Let us choose a government that will truly struggle and fights for out “rights” and a fair and equal progressin Sarawak. If we fail to put in the government that we want, DO NOT GIVE UP. We will try again.

But if the people we choose form the government do not stop there – UNITE in your thought and help the new government by giving them ideas and cooperation to implement the thing that you want them to implement.

Do not hold grudges against the voters who do not vote for you. Lead everyone to progress. Give better quality life to everybody and let them have equal opportunity to improve their life.

Vote – Chane WE Must.

So confident is DR Rayong that he claimed to be a perfect candidate for Engkilili. He has the basis of saying so….Why not, afterall PKR will be nominating Angela (bini baginda) for the seat.

Rayong told me over breakfast at NK yesterday that he does not have to campaign….all he needs to do is to ask his wife to neutralise PKR nominees.

According to Rayaong since 2006 he had brought in development funds amounting to RM137millions to Engkilili. On the one hand Angela only seek for donation from poor Iban farmers there…..so how like that? While Rayong enriched the voters there by pouring in development fund, PKR Angela appeal to them to donate and after that go to Kuching and spent the money, again why like that?

I knew for fact that some DB begin to doubt the seriousness of PKR leadership to win the state polls.

    Doc,

i think your article are genuine and reasonable.
not too extremist and fanatic. and that should be the way.

take for example, the Dr. Rayong’s case.
when he was in the opposition before. anybody remember what he said against the BN candidate for Engkilili, Johnnical Krai Pilo. should i say sorry for rewind what he say,” Butuh kita BN!!! BN people are sick and mad. BN people are the worst dogs and can go to hell and berambus, Bn are suffering from hyperactive syndrome terminators and many many more bad things against the BN” there you see ENGKERAWAI. i ve heard worst.

now, i meant the present day. what did Dr. Rayong says? especially near to the election? i think Doc, above has written and explained it well.

in another way or another, be it candidate for the election, layman, streetmen, bloggers we must be professional. not too emotional. control ourselve as shown by some few hear such as mt,ci,abt. for that i salute them.

afterall we can switch c..p freely and without force, if we found out there has been injusticed done by the concerning party toward us, without dropping our dignity.

though i m seem to be supporting the present BN, but we never no, who m i going to vote for come the election time. it all depend on how WE ATTRACT the rakyat in an ABSTRACT’s Manner.

Ask Dr Rayong to have a look at the mirror himself , nobody is perfect in this world.Self praise is not praise,By giving out few MRP projects meant had served well is kampung-style of YB.How about other issues like fairness, equalities, social ills and many others ?. Issues like NCR LANDS ,BUMI STATUS,NO BODY DARE TO CLAIMS HIMSELF AS CHAMPION, EVEN OBAMA OF USA

    Dr. John Brian,

Why don`t we take the words of your district mate, Dr. Stephen Rundi who said state election still far off because BN component parties were still occupied with their own party elections. PRS is going to hold TDC in May.

However, PR must make preparation from now in case Taib may call state election this year.

Regarding Rayong, I doubt if he can retain the seat, because he betrays the voters in his constituency.

PKR Bini beginda (Angela) no match to Rayong or any BN candidate in Engkilili. Ka betui?, sepuloh bayar lima!!!!BN one up!

PR on the verge of Collasping, only times will tell.

Perak has been taken over by BN. Selangor will go into BN pocket before chinese new year. Penang will BN rulr-state before GAWAI.

Zahrain claims that the majority of PKR’s elected representatives and members, especially from Penang, were frustrated with their party’s subservient attitude to Pakatan Rakyat ally DAP.

Their anger, he alleges, was more towards DAP secretary-general and Penang Chief Minister Lim Guan Eng.

The former Penang PKR chief is particularly annoyed with PKR’s ‘virtual surrender’ to Lim and partly blamed it on a weak state party leadership

He said the current PKR representatives in the state Pakatan government were meekly giving in to DAP at the expense of party interests, rights and benefits.

“They dare not stand up against Lim. PKR has compromised its original reformasi agenda to suit the whims and fancies of DAP’s political game,” he told Malaysiakini.

    Koklir,

Let me enlighten you. The Umno (BN) is now very weak in West Malaysia if they held GE now, they will fall flat. There are trying all sought of nonsense to stir up the emotion of the Malay community. By God’s grace till now we still enjoy calmness because the rakyat is very smart now.

BN (UMNO) still hold the power because of Sarawak and Sabah was still her vote bank. If we want to see the new dawn, Sarawak and Sabah needs to change. Sarawak and Sabah can take lead row as a decision maker for selecting the best gomen (not this present gomen so, so, so abuse of power).

The boss of the gomen is the voter. Why let our right given to the gomen that only hungry for personal gain and does not improve the daily living of the rakyat. So be wise, thinks of your future generation not now only.

After 47 years what this BN (UMNO) have done to this state. Sad right. I hope that Sarawak and Sabah will becomes a financially strong and well developed state.

    SDNU members and All,

DL group had actully booked two tables at Penview hotel last night but decided not to attend the SDNU dinner after learning that the proposed new office bearers are dominated by opposition-minded personalities. DL was made to understand the guest of honour DS William Mawan has second thought about attending the function after being informed or realising that SDNU is the right wing/affiliate of opposition PKR.

DS William also in the last minutes withdrew the gomen grants to SDNU when it was brought to his intention by DL ad hoc committee that the new office bearers are anti BN and anti-establishment peoples.

Datuk Salang may not come to officiate SDNU TGM this morning for fear that some quarters are using SDNU to smear the good name of BN gomen under Yangdikasihi.

Its sad that SDNU has been infilterated by anti-establishment element to the point that gomen ministers/officers refused giving grant to the association.

Who will be at the lossing end? Of course the Dayaks.

It is plain for to see the seriousness of our Iban YBs in trying to exacerbate the Iban plights. The Ibans are losing because of sheer foolishness of the Ibans themselves, which in this the Iban leaders.

Even someone’s involvement in an Association is being questioned by those selfish individuals like Dayaklama. WTF!.

Sukong MJC 100% SDNU should be apolitical.

  29. engkerawai on January 30th, 2010 5:34 pm

Most of the Associations are full of aspiring leaders and lots of innovative ideas. It all depends on the vision and mission of the assoc. to bring their cohorts to a certain level that they struggled for.

We cant blame them if that is the way it should be. Freedom of expressions is the basic rights of each and everyone of us.

The Dayaks need to be unified and strengthened in its struggle into the mainstream of development and politics. SARAWAK DAYAK UNION PARTY[SADUP} should emerge …for all the Dayaks, lets dissolve all the splinter parties in BN and Opposition and merge as SADUP..

  30. Panjai Runding Panjai Ruai on January 30th, 2010 5:34 pm

I have a suggestion to make to all of you infleuntial people so that SDNU be apolitical. Make SDNU a government department like Information, Agriculture, L& S,or JKR etc.In West Malaysia they have a dept.called Orang Asli Affair.

The Sarawak Dayak Affair will be headed by a director and he will be NEUTRAL and should not have a political leaning.

Telaga Kumang what say you ?

  31. John Jamban on January 30th, 2010 5:53 pm

    Hello friends,

SDNU should act as a govt machinery to deliver project for the betterment dayak life in the rural area. Organise seminar on crop planting, small bussiness and importance of education is indeed pertinently and timely.

At the moment most of SDNU EXCO are aligned to opposition parties. This is not good, because the govt would not provide fund for any of their project which BN believed to detrimental to their government.

PLEASE SDNU EXCO—for sake of common dayak benefit always saty apolitical.

    Nya aja kaban.

There is a different idea. Perhaps SDNU must be headed by YDK and Dayaklama, preferably for one term at least.

All of the people in the lineup are closely linked either PBB,PRS and SPDP.

In this way, we shall see how much could they do to allevite the problems faced by SDNU all this while. Could they really help solving SDNU problems with their solid political links?.

    Cheers…

Your relentless efforts/struggles might one day be an inspiration for us, as new generations of leader for the future of ‘anakbiaks’…..well kerani, let us salute DJB for his achievement and the confidence accorded to him by SDNU members like u and me!!!! CHEERS!

  45. Kerani Opis Welfare on February 1st, 2010 6:30 pm

    Doc,

i m one of the SDNU member, as i think. infact i m applying to be a member just middle of last last, we, i meant the whole longhouse as about 46 members applied to join the SDNU in en bloc in the year 2009.

i don’t know the outcome, whether i m a member or not cause till this day, there is no single reply about our application.

i know this year we going to pay for the membership’s fee. what worry me is that some members of my longhouse started to have a doubt about this organisation and our application status.

there you see, Doc, you have to do DRY CLEANING and it is not an easy job, after the bad remenants of the past that entangled with SDNU.

furthermore Doc, as i see it the SDNU in my region is in the state of half past dead. sorry to say, the whole of last No activity is organised. At least i like to suggest hear the SDNU organise the BLOOD DONATION campaign in helping the general hospital to acquire this must needed life saving element which is in critical need. it is a noble deed to do, i m sure the SDNU member are willing to donate a pint of blood, me, well, i will be the first to register as a blood donor.

i hope you can do something Doc, whatever to revive this half past. we as an ordinary members(my longhouse people) are can be assured to help you in one way or another for the sake of SDNU.
i don’t know whether this is right or wrong but has to confirm with Batulawi for this proverd,” New Broom Sweep Well”. Good Luck Doc.

don’t worry engkerawai, what is worrying me is that, “Those who said and ACT like a die-hard opposition supporters, promoters and members, but come the election time, they vote for the BN, since voting are secret, this is a dangerous thing, he could be your close friends, relatives, collegues and i think Doc, knew this for certain.”

    Kaban, Kerani welfare,
I think you are conscious on the plight of the Dayaks in Sarawak. Enough is enough! The truth will be revealed kerani…so whch side do you intent to vote for the next GE ???

You ask me ???Well….Don’t underestimate my sincerity. I’m always on the opposing side for the past 2 decades of general election. I accept whatever the BN gov’t had given us in term of minor projects. But, I’m not convinced because we are still lacking in many aspects compared to our adopted brothers from Semenanjung. It saddened me and I felt sorry for the kampung folks due to the ignorance on the part of our current Dayak leaders in BN. I will continue to vote the opposition, be it PKR, DAP or PCM. Time for change and the critical change that we really need to unseat the self-centred leaders.

    AKAI>>>DAI!!!

  50. Dino on February 4th, 2010 9:31 am

    engkerawai…

u hv been voting for opposition for the past 2 decades? DB said we must change..meaning the next GE u ought to vote for BN, correct? if u continue voting for opposition u r going against your concience for refusing to change

  51. engkerawai on February 5th, 2010 9:19 am

    DINO ..the dinousaur,

The change that we need is not from the BN, perhaps our struggle might not be up to expectation but I have confidence and believe that alternative gov’t should exist apart from BN. We dont want these scrap leaders to hold the ministerial post anymore because of the frustrations, ill-feeling and hidden agenda by these prentah LAUT, in colonising the Dayaks!
OFF YOU GO BN!!!!….my generation will vote for change not through BN but ……????? lets see…..or…..tunggu dan lihat!

i think election wont be held around gawai or krismas as many dayaks balik kampung for sure..so the taib strategy i think of months where dayaks are away from home…agree?
