DPM/ Education Minister School Holiday not sensitive to Sabah Sarawak Needs
Posted by Dr. John Brian Anthony
This letter is from one Dayakbaru reader and he wishes to bring the attention of Dayak that the 2010 School holiday has been reverted back to 5th June which will make life very difficult for those Dayak working in West Malaysia. Has it got to do with the coming State election – predicted to be before gawai 2010?
Please read the letter below.
Dear Sir,
I would like to thank you for being vocal about justice and rights of our people. More often than not the Federal Government takes us for a ride. And we are seen as the backward people in Malaysia.
Here is a classic example of one.
In August 2009 the ministry drafted the school holidays for 2010. They had the mid term holidays moved to 5th of June 2010.
After some protest, they changed it to 28th of May 2010. They say “to honour the people of Sabah and Sarawak.
But sadly. today I learnt that our Education Ministry had cancelled their reversal without giving any reason.
Education Department not respecting the people of Sabah and Sarawak
When they restructured the school holidays..they said they wanted to respect the request from Sabah and Sarawak people and now they go back on their own reversal decision. Are they telling us that they don’t give a damn anymore about us.
Sir, please refer to the attachments.
The reversal letter is at the bottom.
I truly hope, that you can a bring this matter to the highest level. It must be bigger than before. There must be an end to this mockery of belittling of East Malaysia.
There are thousands of East Malaysian residing and working ( many as teachers) there and we need to wake up and fight for our honour and right.
Thank you
Faithfully

Problems of shortage teachers in Sarawak and Sabah will never be solved as long as the government is not willing to increase the intake of teacher trainees in IPG or IPTA for teaching professions.Of all 6267 applicants to IPG in 2009, only 162 were successful or 2.58 %.Does this reflect the government efforts to look after the problems of the schools in these two states. Is it not more effective and economical to use local teachers rather than posting thousands of teachers from West Malaysia which costs the government more.Try out some new strategic panning, this problem will gradually solved.
baru2 tu tadi lebuh ku mansa surau, ba malaya tu meh, bc ninga org ceramah nya nyebut ” orang sarawak masih tiada elektrik dan air paip”, enti kta ba tmpat aku, nama asai kta
Calender for June 2010
———————-
Tuesday 1 – Gawai Dayak
Wednesday 2 – Public Holiday
Thursday 3 – Government working day
Friday 4 – -do-
Saturday 5 – Hari Keputeraan Yang Di-Pertuang Agong
4.6.2010 – 19.6.2010 – Cuti pertengahan Tahun
What Dayakbaru reader means, if School holiday starts from 5.6.2010, those Dayaks staying far away from home will not be able to come for Gawai. Therefore it is more appropriate if the Education Ministry can make the mid term school holiday starts on 28th May 2010.
The Ministry of Education can do that if it wish to, by giving extra classes to cover 3 and 4 of June 2010.
Lets them with wrong info, peoples oways jump to the conclusion without proper data. Tats true and it can be happens to everyone. Be patient mydear. Please, quetion it to the Sarawak YBs especially the rural representative, how was look like? Find out the figure. where the percentage of electricity supply and jln kampung covered til 2009 in the rural areas , such as Ulu Engkari, Balleh, mujong, etc. SO, Change We MUST. How? ONLY the education (Formal school)can do it. TQ
The officers in the Kementerian Pelajaran just want to set the calendar at their own convenience only without considering the plight of the Sarawak/Sabah peoples. They dont even know when is Gawai/Keamatan festivals. It looks like our presence as races in Malaysia is not duly recognised by these prentah LAUTS…out of 1Melayusia!
The ministry of education should be more sensitive to the needs of Sarawak and Sabah having school holiday for from 28.5.2010-13.6.2010.KPM should know that Sabah will be celebrating HARVEST FESTIVAL on 30-31 of May, while Sarawak will be celebrating HARI GAWAI on 1-2 of June every year. For the conveniences of all students, parents and schools without having to do any replacement on Saturday,it is more appropriate to have the holidays as mentioned above.DR,pls post this suggestion in the press for the information of KPM which might have overlooked .I think most schools in Sarawak and Sabah will agree to it.Give ample times to them to go back for their celebrations.
School holiday for mid term from 28th May,2010 to 13th June,2010 is more appropriate for the following reasons: 1,28th May-Wesak Day-National Holiday. 2,30th and 31st-Keamatan-Sabah. 3,1st and 2nd- Hari Gawai- Sarrawak. 4 No replacement of class needed. 5,Those involve will have ample times to go back for their celebrations. 6,Promote national integrations. 7,Inline with concept of 1 Malaysia.

BN & 1MALAYSIA semina dikena di menua MELAYA aja.
After I read the article I ,as I am not a Dayak, for me it seem the education minister Datuk Hishammuddin Hussein and his assiatant Datuk Dr Wee Ka Siong and Datuk Razali Ismail din’t care about Sarawak citizen, maybe they all a Malaya people,or maybe after that they will plan to remove Gawai public holidays, so it is better for us to have our on school holidays,as now we have different law for Allah issue were in Malaya we cannot used “Allah” if we not Muslim, and it allowed in Sabah and Sarawak, so why we can’t make a different or seprate rule regardings the schools holidays?? Are Sabah and Sarawak consider Malaysia?
uchumanangjelai..amat kuk nuan nyak..the goverment now seem not really care about the people, just just busy on their own, what they want is to maintain their position in the goverment, they are sellfish and greedy..so Sabah and Sarawak people we should become 1Borneo intead of 1Malaysia(Melaya)….
Nganti cuti Gawai ngam enggau tarikh Hari Raya ila…. baru kitai cuti Gawai lama agi. Enti cuti Raya baru enda tau enda ngambi kelas ganti. Terpulai ngagai Pengetua. Nya meh nyadi ngagai bala pengajar. Udah ga KPM enda prihatin. Tambah ka pengetua nya enda ibuh laban iya pan enda nyambut gawai.
Anang ka maioh kelikuh….aku ka datai jari pama puas ditundi perintah BN.
Kena 29 Mei 2010, semua nembiak Dayak/ Iban nibuh datai sekula agi…kitai ke apai/indai mai semua sida pulai ngintu Gawai ba rumah panjai.
Enti semua kitai Iban 99.9% serakup enda natai kediri sekula…nadai ulih diukum perintah agi. Ti ngukum serang ngau rumah sekula enti enda ulih selesai ngena PIBG.
Keni ko aku…lalu lemi selemi meh kitai tu enda nemu membela diri (ko melayu)…enda nemu ngetan ke hak diri….nadai bargaining power….toothless…keni ka PALOI gerempung kitai Iban bangat enda nemu bejaku? YB Iban nibuh sebut sigi enda ngandar ke sida bejaku ke bansa…munuh bansa diri empu baru pengawa YB kitai Iban….
Getil orang enda meh kitai kekebut, jangkam orang ditat ke aja meh….ditendang orang enda meh engkeretik….dipalu orang enda meh nemu ngelaban…tak asuh disayat orang sekali ga ngambi enda medis isi….
Uji Cikgu & Nembiak Dayak/ Iban sama2 pulai ke rumah panjai kena 29 Mei…cuti sampai 19 Jun. Lak ke bansa bukai aja ngisi sekula maia 3 & 4 Jun nya. Jamah ngau Pengetua enti ngukum..kenya iya mesti ka main kasar enti ka idup senang…anang nurut ke aja…ngetat ke pemerinsa kena bully Perintah BN…baka TAI slogan ” rakyat didahulukan”…ngereba jalai raya sign board sida BN nya. Puiiiiii……
Could it be gomen conspiracy/ tactics to prevent the educated Ibans from the town/ city to spread the news “change we must” to the longhouse folks? Or gomen tactics last minute agree to adjust the date to suit the gawai holiday, pancing undi?
Are the longhouse folks still claim perintah BN manah….die with the slogan “anang ngelaban perintah” ?…even the gomen failed to control the prices of food/ control items during gawai Ibans still sembah BN….is it not enough, are we still can afford to suffer further never complain?
Every gawai festival all transportation fees/ fares going up….still vote for daicin…..land robbed by gomen…still vote for BN, houses bulldozed by BN…today cry…tomorrow declare 100% support to BN as claimed by KOW, Koklir & Dayaklama in the case of rumah Nor residents. Where is our dignity…did the Ibans have no moral value in life..sengapa bansa orang ngaga…ni ko orang aja? Enti Ibans sama Ibans baru kering ka bejamah pia?
Now BN stop us from celebrating the gawai..still claim that perintah BN manah…still shuukong Pehin. I wish more bad decisions to come by the gomen against/ befall on the Ibans….just want to see whether we still sembah BN or not?
It is never my intention to see the Ibans suffer under BN BUT it seemed that we continued to choose the BN gomen strangles us, tie our hands & legs…masking tape our mouth not to speak…eventhough I always wish for backfire on every unpopular decision by gomen against the Ibans…lalu apin sedar agi pia….apuuuuuu?
We dont have any say in the policy making decision in the Ministry of Education. The Dayaks officers holding top post seems to be non-existence. These notorious LAUTs are quite ignorant of the plights of the Sarawakians and Sabahans as Malaysia citizen.
