Dayak – Armed Forces University is looking for You

Taken from Borneo Post

Dayakbaru:

Our YBs are sometime too full of “shit” that they cannot even see the opportunities for Dayak entering the Military College University to serve the country.

If the YB has done  a good job by communicating this info, then is the Military College University intakes based on “racial” preference again to complete the Malay agenda? We have too much experience in this false hope and I do hope that arm are more honest and less politicking.

Iron Fist – acting like “intelligence Agent”

Why is JASA not explaining such info into the long house and engage in drinking coffee and solicit information to undermine the Opposition. Funny thing is when Opposite organized ceramah then JASA would organized one to next to the Opposition to put fear on those who attend the function.

Kemas will walk around with camera etc to put fear on the people to discourage them to listen to the Opposition views. What is all this – this is called the IRON FIST of BN. They are eager to put Opposition into problems.

Now read the article below and see whether you want Dayak Youth to join the Armed Forces. Hopefully our youth can climb up to a General Rank – after 47 years in Malaysia, Dayak have never got into a General post. Is that a fair representation of the various races in the Armed Forces?

Borneo Post Article

KUCHING: Many Sarawakians do not know that Universiti Pertahanan Nasional Malaysia (UPNM) is the only public university in the country that pays monthly salaries to its undergraduates.

FOR REFERENCE: Secondary school students collecting brochures at a booth at the 2010 Higher Education Carnival held at Permata Exhibition Centre in Kuching. The exhibition ends today.

The salaries range between RM1,206.96 and RM1,553.04.

Besides, the undergraduates are entitled to allowances and bonuses while their tuition and accommodation fees are fully sponsored.

On top of that, they would be offered a job in the Defence Ministry immediately after their graduation.

However, there is something that the undergraduates have to sacrifice.

For instance, they would not be able to enjoy long semester breaks like other undergraduates.

They also have to serve in the Defence Ministry for between 10 years and 13 years.

UPNM assistant registrar Mohd Amirul Zzaki Razmi explained yesterday that the undergraduates were required to involve in military training during semester breaks.

“Nevertheless, they would be given one week holiday before and after the training,” he told thesundaypost when met at the 2010 Higher Education Carnival at Permata Exhibition Centre here.

Courses Offered

He said UPNM, which was established in November 2006, offered engineering, science and technology, resource management and medical courses.

The university, located at Sungai Besi Camp in Kuala Lumpur, was the former Akademi Tentera Malaysia (ATMA), he said.

“We are the only university in Malaysia that pays our students salaries, and our yearly intake is only 500 students. However, the enrolment of students from Sarawak and Sabah is still low.

East Malaysia Student do not know about UPNM

“I believe many East Malaysian students do not know about UPNM, even teachers may not know about it. UPNM is one of the universities governed by the Higher Education Ministry, but its students are fully sponsored by the Defence Ministry,” he explained.

He said the university had less than 50 Sarawak students since its first enrolment, adding that its current student population was about 1,700.

12 called only 8 qualified

“Last year, 12 candidates from Sarawak were called for interview, but only eight qualified to be enrolled in our one-year foundation programme,” he said.

The interview was conducted at Penrissen Camp near here.

The seven to nine-day interview which included physical and fitness tests was carried out in April every year in various military camps throughout the country, Amirul said.

Another UPNM assistant registrar Muhammad Khaidzir Lokman, meanwhile, said 80 per cent of the university’s students were male.

He pointed out that UPNM was different from other public universities where it had only one intake per year, which was in July every year.

“Besides the one-year foundation progrmme, the length of study ranges from three to five years. Medical students have to complete five years of study, engineering students four years and students of other courses three years.

“While in the university, the undergraduates are also required to pass at least six military trainings,” he added.

For further information, the public can visit the booth of UPNM at the carnival.( where and when is the next carnival? )

The two-day education carnival which ends today (Feb 21) is themed ‘Jom Masuk U’.

It is an annual event organised by the Higher Education Ministry and supported by the Education Ministry.

About 100 higher learning institutions and organisations are participating in the carnival which has received overwhelming response from students and the public.

Students and Teachers

Students, led by their teachers, were seen collecting brochures and gathering information from different booths as early as 8.30am yesterday.

Two teachers from SMK Bandar Semariang here were spotted busily discussing and gathering information from different booths.

Suzi Runis, 32, said she and her colleague Lydia Karlos led 29 Form 5 students to the exhibition.

The counsellor teacher said the fair provided a good platform for students to be exposed to various higher learning institutions in the country. She added that such exhibitions not only benefited students, but also teachers.

The carnival is very helpful

“The exhibition gives students latest information about various universities in Malaysia. It is very helpful. Sometimes, the information teachers have is limited.

“Maybe the ministry could consider organising such exhibitions slightly early so that students could have better preparation and more time to think about their future,” she added.

SMK Lundu fifth former Shazziela Abdul Rahman, 17, said her visit to the exhibition was to get detailed information about qualification and the process to enter university.

“I’ll be sitting for the SPM this year. I wish to be a medical doctor or a teacher. I think the fair is useful in terms of enlightening me about the courses and programmes offered by the universities,” she said.

She was accompanied to the fair by her family members.

For Nur Ezzati Hamdin, 18, she did not miss the chance to visit the fair for other possible choices.

The former student of SMK Agama Tun Ahmad Zaidi, who is currently waiting for her SPM result, said she aimed to be a geologist.

Students should look for opportunities to enter University

“I’m here to have a look at various universities. Actually, I hope I could further my studies at Universiti Teknologi Mara (UiTM) in Shah Alam,” she added.

Abdul Taib Yakup, 41, the father of a girl who is waiting for her STPM result, said the fair provided useful information to his daughter.

Abdul Taib, from Kota Smarahan said he knew about the fair through a radio programme.

“I encourage my daughter to visit the fair. It is important that she knows about different choices so that she could make a wise decision after she get her results,” he said.

Dr JBA, I am very sure if this sitution happens to orang Malaya(UMNO), you will definitely see many sucide bombers, parrading of cow head, burning of chuches, etc in the name of religion but it is not the real intention as what RPK commented. I agree with RPK.

    thank for writing DR JBA.

UPNM yearly intakes 500 students. Last year 12 candidates from Sarawak were called for interview but only 8 were qualified. Can anyone of you imagine, out of these 8 successful candidates, how many were dayaks? I guess, the most is one.

I said so because, I was told by my friend working with PDRM Sarawak that in 2006 out of 58 candidates selected for Police Inspectors to fill the quota for Sarawak, 8 were dayaks and 1 Chinese and 49 were Malays/Melanaus.

    Arah secat,

Tell me how can Dayak Baru be in peace if I leave. Why should I leave. Is it wrong for me and Dayak Baru to point out or highlight where Sarawak and Dayak in particular(eg. after 47 years – no Dayak General in the Army) since the so called independdence for the last 47 years.

Tell me why sucide bomber blasted themselves and also killed another innocent people? Did DB killed people like that. From your many previous comments you appeared to support these acts. Tell me …Whyyyyyyyyy???????A Arah Secat.

I support RPK because he is truely a Muslim and a true believer in God’s words. You….. just know yourselve and you will realize who you are.

Dr JBA keep on writing and thank you.

    Merakat@opium,

Sarawak has been ruled by BN`s government for 47 years. Most of the existing schools, colleges, universities, clinics, hospitals, roads, bridges and rural basic amenities were built and given by BN`s government. You cannot deny it, most of dayak professionals, academicians and scholars were studied in these institutions including you and your children if any.

I have read many of your comments in this blog and all were negatives about BN`s government.

If you think that BN`s government is no good, then don`t send your children to these schools, colleges and universities built by BN`s government. Don`t go to clinics and hospitals built by BN`s government. Don`t used roads and bridges built by BN`s government. Don`t use basic amenities given by BN`s government.

If you argue that you also a tax payer and have the rights to use BN`s facilities above, then stop paying your tax to BN`s government. Remit your payment to opposition`s government. Tell the Resident, D.O, SAO or your local councils about it. May be they will agree.

Akai dai, that’s really true, Lachung Ajak. It will definitely take more than 50 years for a Dayak to get a promotion to General level or never unless one has a name like DS Idris Jala-ludin. Angan angan Mat Jenin. Medis nya Dayak ka nyadi PM, tentu medis nya ga nyadi General.

  7. dayaklama on February 21st, 2010 4:22 pm

Those who claimed themselves educated in DB are not interested in the army but would rather want to be a politicians. So only a handfull that are not well educated are interested and how to promote these people to the rank of the General? These rank in file people will start as constable and over years will reached their bar as corporal or full corporal before their pension. That is the most they can go and you can’t blame the Gomen because they are not having their PHD or doctorate.
Anyone with doctorate, a genuine one in DB want to serve in the military? I think there are bigger chance for you to be promoted to a general if you have PHD. But sad to say most of you while knowing well to sit on the throne you need to make bigger sacrifices but are not doing so.

Unggal dayalama, Tuan Arah and others,

Dayaks are much sidelined and discriminated. Their bravery and courage have long been forgotten but used as ‘human shield’…..

During my days (my little biography); ATM CADET OFFICER INTAKE

1st Board Interview: KD Seri Rejang (Sibu) 61 of us attended the “IQ Interview & Theory Test” but only me alone was eventually selected among them all. See the percentage??

2nd Board Interview: ATM Transits Camp 7th Mile (Kuching) 204 of us attended the “Physical & IQ Test” but only 4 of us were selected among them all (2x local Malays both from Kuching and 2x Ibans). See the percentage??

3rd Board Interview: Sg. Besi Camp (Kuala Lumpur) 2400++ (including lady candidates) of us attended the “final board selection” but only 1000 (Army, Navy & Air Force) selected among them all.

However, only 4x of us (Sarawakian: 2x local Malays and 2x Ibans, and none from Sabah) were selected as Cadet Officers. In the end only a few finally make it. See the percentage??

But as time goes by and until then none of us (my Sarawakian intake) were promoted to “Brigadier General” or even a full “Colonel”. Maybe we don’t have that luck or just that secret things….??

However, one of my Iban brother (an officer) had passed away few years back after he retired.

In the past, there are many modern Dayak warriors (from 1953…..) who had been awarded with George Cross, Victoria Cross, Seri Pahlawan Gagah Perkasa (S.P), Pingat Bintang Gagah Berani, Pingat Gagah Berani (and 1x of them even promoted a rank of Lt Colonel – PGB) but none of them had been awarded with “Dato/Datukship”; a Brig.Gen; and/or given other perks or goodwill? WHY??

That’s the truth and that’s the facts!!

I am not surprise (47 years neh….) but that’s what DB fighting for; our Native Rights!!!

I know how it was and I need not have to comment much because I was there before!!!! Iya ka bukai malas ka syakap…..

In 47 years with all the facilities, machinery and financially given to BN (UMNO) definitely they can built schools, colleges, universities, clinics, hospitals, roads, bridges and rural basic amenities were built.

But if 47 years is given to PR they will developed the state many times better than BN (UMNO).

Sarawakian already given BN (UMNO) 47 years to rules. Why not give PR a chance to rules. In order to know who is better. (All the PR controlled state, many of the residents staying there are happy). Why not give them a chance.

Fair enough isn’t it. For the better of Sarawak.

The BOSS of the government is the VOTERS.

    Cheers.

  18. gkm2020 on February 21st, 2010 7:17 pm

DB, I want you to analyze this article:

Righting Umno – The Malaysian Insider

FEB 21 – Datuk Seri Najib Razak has a huge and crucial task ahead – reclaiming Umno to serve Malaysians of all races and creed, and not just the right-wingers who believe they will inherit the earth.

Over the last 48 hours, the Umno president has told his party to adopt a new paradigm shift to win over the non-Malays who deserted the Barisan Nasional in Election 2008 and to stop ridiculing the Pakatan Rakyat that has benefitted from the party’s chauvinism.

The Prime Minister also asked the Chinese community to give Barisan Nasional another chance to prove itself. He had to do this himself as the Chinese-based peninsula allies MCA and Gerakan have been too preoccupied with wallowing in infighting and self-pity from the massive electoral defeats of 2008 to provide any direction or attraction to the community.

Asking the Chinese or the Indians in the peninsula for their continued support is the easy part. Even keeping the support of Sabah and Sarawak electorate is not too difficult as Barisan Nasional has the power of incumbency and influence in those states.

But righting his own Malay nationalist party to keep it centrist, like it was in the days of Tunku Abdul Rahman and Tun Dr Ismail Abdul Rahman, or even his father Tun Abdul Razak Hussein, might prove trickier.

His special officer Datuk Nasir Safar had spewed derogatory remarks about the Chinese and Indians, ironically at a 1 Malaysia event, while an Umno official maintained such talk was not unusual if spoken behind closed doors, underlining the fact that most party members believe they are the only rightful citizens of Malaysia.

Other members are flirting with the Malay rights group Perkasa, which believes the rights of the country’s dominant ethnic group is under threat from others. They have put forth the view that even discussing Islam and a court ruling on the usage of the term “Allah” is a threat to the Malay race, religion and royalty.

Perkasa president, the outspoken Independent MP for Pasir Mas Datuk Ibrahim Ali, is a regular fixture in Umno programmes, leaving nothing to the imagination that there is a nexus between the party and the right-wing group.

For Ibrahim and his ilk, and frighteningly a number of Umno members and its supporters, Najib’s inclusive 1 Malaysia is a threat and should be just 1 Malay. Anything that stands in their way is not kosher.

In that sense, the party president must walk the talk to make Umno right, not keep it right. He must continuously stress that government policies are for all, not just a section of Malaysians, specifically the Malays. Poverty is colour-blind, and policies must be too.

It is no use to talk about a New Economic Model based on innovation and creativity for a high-income economy when an Umno deputy minister says it will conform to the New Economic Policy (NEP).

The NEP has been so much abused that corruption, cronyism and nepotism are its hallmarks. Any new economic model that follows that is not new but more of the same old, same old. It is to Najib’s advantage to ensure reforms will lead to a prosperous Malaysia for all, not just any one community.

For now, it appears that Najib is the only one in Umno who believes in 1 Malaysia. For the other Umno leaders and members, it’s just a label to stick to a forum or a nasi lemak-making contest.

For all his plans to succeed, Najib needs the full support and help of his Cabinet and more so, Umno. He can talk the walk but Umno must walk the talk or remain a party only for a section of Malays and not for those who believe they are Malaysians in 1 Malaysia.

    COMMENT:

    - Rakyat have enough of UMNO-BN regime. BN got to go for good (47 years had gone by…..)
    - UMNO is more interested to serve the “Melayu Raya” than the immigrant Chinese, Indians and the other Dayaks.
    - UMNO believe “Allah” is exclusive for UMNO Malays.
    - UMNO-BN is in a state of desperado.
    - UMNO-BN is afraid of their own shadow and bad deeds.
    - I believe the “Rakyat” should be given the rights to replace BN with a new government of their choice.

    Tambah ka diya meh…..

I’m not naive about what I have said and/or commented herein but I know who have been awarded “datukship” after they have retired…. Datuk Seri Syed Azman Syed Ibrahim former Army Major; Capt (Rtd) Mukhtiar Singh awarded Datukship; Capt (Rtd) Mohd Osman awarded Datukship; Capt.(R) Ahmad Johan now Tan Sri, and so on….

Unfortunately, Shah Rukh Khan (Bollywood actor) got his ‘datukship” too…??

My question to you; can you name me just one Dayak who have been promoted to Brig.Gen in the ATM today?

Do you know what “Seri Pahlawan Gagah Perkasa (S.P)” award equivalent to??

Unfortunately, Nicole David received the Darjah Setia Pangkuan Negeri (DSPN) award also got her ‘datukship”…?? 1malaysia “Bolehland” nya madi….

Col.(R) Dunstan Nyaring Angking of 1 Renjer was the first native Iban officer to attain the rank of full colonel in the Malaysian army. He served with 1 Renjer during the Indonesian confrontation and was the ensign that received on behalf of his battalion, the battalion’s Battle Truncheon.

Currently, Col. Stephen Mundaw from Pakit, Sri Aman, Sarawak is the only known highest native Iban officer serving the Malaysian Army as full Colonel. Apart from that, another known Dayak officer is Lt.Col.Jimbai Bunsu PBK (my ex-BN buddy), currently a 2nd I/C of the 1st Bn/511th Regiment TA based in Kuching.

Your comment on PR performed worst still…how would you know if they were given 47 years from now….your perception could be worse still??

  23. gkm2020 on February 21st, 2010 9:50 pm

    Saudara arah,

Many people of low esteem have a negative perception. I just hope you’re not one of them…

This encourages them to live their lives comparing themselves to others in a futile and unrealistic way, instead of valuing themselves with all their imperfections and acknowledging their own uniqueness and strengths.

Not surprisingly, they will never feel good about themselves against such impossible yardsticks; neither will others feel good around them too.

The true essence of personal perception and its individual bias becomes obvious in the notion of leadership.

There is the tendency to believe that leaders lead and followers follow and that we personally are effective and efficient leaders (using current benchmark as a guide), but our intended followers may have a very different perception of what leadership should be.

We might think we are leading but very few people might be following! It does not matter whose perception is ‘right’.

What does matter is that we perceive and we believe. Perception is the truth in our reality. That’s all we have.

The fact that people can perceive the same thing differently must therefore become an integral part of the decision-making process for all workplaces, and also be fully acknowledged in the domestic routine.

In short, if a person perceives a certain situation relating to him/her, that will be the only perception which will be initially accepted, not the perception of another, and this has huge implications for social interactions, workplaces and relationships.

We cannot impose our own perception on others as their reality.

That only leads to confusion, anger, resentment and a feeling of not being heard or valued.

The truth of any situation has to be negotiated according to individual perceptions.

To ignore the importance of this perceptual process in our lives is to ignore a major determinant of all behaviour which is at the root of much misunderstanding (in relationships), much prejudice (in interactions) and discrimination (in work and society).

    DB move forward objectively.

    Agi Idup-Agi Ngelaban…Hooo….Haaaa…!!!

Again you try to deviate the issues.

Even the British colony in its short span of ruling Sarawak built a number of hospitals, road, etc. For your information the main trunk road from Kuching/Sibu was originally cnstructed by the British Colony.
Mr Arah Secat just try to open up and have a bit of knowledge on economic, you could see the rate of development made by British Colony is far more higher in term of % rate against the income generates by Sarawak in Malaysia.

Again you mention that DB and I are negatve but we are just stating facts and truths.

Why, you don’t like the truth?????? If you don’t like the truth than don’t read this DB blogg. Go to your UMNO blogg, RTM news, Stars, Utusan, etc….there you can read to your top content all the positive thing on BN. I read less of those simply because many are just for election purpose.

    Hello DB,

Please don’t get distracted by Babi, Tuan Arah and other negative thinkers and/or negative disorderly people or Bangsa Negatif (BN).

Herein let me give you some words of advice to tackle these negative promoters in this blog. Don’t get “Negative emotions” sap your energy and undermine your effectiveness. In the negative emotional state, you find the lack of desire to do anything.

The mind is filled with thoughts of fear, doubts and insecurities. Your body experiences fatigue, tightness and muscle tension.

Notice that your negative emotions arise when you respond to something, attach a meaning to it and picture it in your mind.

You add power to it by using words to label and describe the situation or emotion. You will then experience the sensation and respond accordingly, as you always, have unconsciously.

    How to deal with negative emotions and emotional distraction caused by “Bangsa Negatif” (BN);

    Decision

It takes a decision to change anything. Once you decide that you no longer want to allow your negative emotions to control your life, you will take action to manage them when the first hint appears.

    Awareness

You should condition yourself to become aware of your emotions and the stimulus that trigger them. When you are aware, you are able to look at it squarely. Train your mind to “catch” yourself getting into an emotional state.

    Questioning

It takes conscious awareness to question your limiting feelings and state of mind. Questioning yourself is a way to dehypnotize your way of getting into an automatic state.

Question your reasons, assumptions and understandings in order to change the intensity and meaning you attach to your emotions.

    Change your focus

When you focus on hurtful feeling, fear and all other negative state of emotions, you will enlarge them. You need to refocus and divert your attention to what you want to experience.

Instead of brooding and playing disempowering images and talking negatively to yourself, take a different action. Since you have total control over your thoughts at any given time, you can shift your thinking.

The best way to shift your thinking and refocus is to do something physically. Moving your body through physical activity changes your internal state of mind.

    De-stress and relax

When there is a lot of stress in your life, everything seems against you. De-stress yourself at intervals during your waking hours by taking time to relax and exercise breathing techniques.

A calm and peaceful mind is able to produce positive emotions and a better outlook about life and events.

    Accept responsibility

Try to remind yourself that the cause of your anger, hurt and fear are not due to external situations or people. It exists inside you.

If you can control and manage your negative emotions, nothing out there will affect your state of mind and body.

Anang alah semangat – Anang nyaul semangat – Anang nyaul bansa!

    Agi Idup – Agi Ngelaban…Hooo…Haaa…!!!

    arah,

In GE 12 if PR did not win the 4 states we will not know. Yours assumption of PR ruling the state may be worst, may be correct. But they have proven that they are capable of running the state administration properly with minimum federal government financially support. If they are given what the BN state are given, definitely they will do better. So your assumption is not valid.

They have proven it in the 4 states.

So why worry, give PR a chance. For a better Sarawak.

    Cheers.

Babi,

It has been deeply perceived by the Non malays that the Malaysi army is for them. So much of Malay culture including religoius elements have been incorporated into the way the army to be managed. Unknowingly, this ha led the Non Malays to look like shunning the army.

Before its disolution, please recall the number of Dayak soldiers in Sarawak Rangers. The drive for the Dayak Ibans to become soldiers almost died at the same instant.

We could sense that it is you who are making a nauseating statement- one line statement directed negatively at DB. If you are truly sincere, then we must make genuine efforts by giving constructive comments ideally to alleviate our Iban plights.

    Babi,
All Ibans are already poor. A majority of us are living below a poverty line of RM750.00. Therefore, the moment we talk about Ibans, we are in fact helping each other by exchanging views on issues affecting the Ibans, especially poverty amongst our ethnic and the effectiveness of roles of the governemnt has played to assist us.

Richard Steele has done a research on the Ibans. His study reveals that the Ibans are the poorest ethnic in Sarawak, thier own birthplace. We want to know the reasons for our backwardness. Some DBS might have managed to successful made changes within themselves thereby noticing that our cureent Iban leaders could have conttributed towards the deterioration of Iban problems.

Therefore, Babi, please help the Ibans by any possible way within your grab, just like each and everyone of us here.

Anang ngasoh Liur Unggal Ukoi Kaka majak nitik!

    gkm2020 and others,

You try to be a hero in this blog, whereas in your own blog has a poor respond from DB.

Have you ever realize that you cannot change people and circumstances without first change yourself. When we perceive negatively in others, it is usually a reflection of ourselves. Each person`s perception differs from the next.

It is far better for you not to depend on others to boost your own self-confident. If you are ultra-sensitive to careless remarks and criticisms, it is vital that you build your inner strength and belief in your worth.

I won`t talk much, the reality is BN Sarawak will win the next general state general election. PR can wins some seats through DAP, while BN will make a clean sweep all the seats in dayaks majority areas.

  38. engkerawai on February 22nd, 2010 7:49 am

Doesn’t matter how we react to your antagonist statements because we want to get our message heard and spread to every Dayaks wherever they are now.

    Arah the terrible,

Stop aggravating and hurting the feeling/emotion of our own people. Rehabilitate yorurself at the correction institute or become one of the Jawi officers catching those muslim LAUTS who play truancy….khalwat, makan pil, rempit, liwat…or catch those pondans at kotaraya KL.

    Najib and Opposition politics
(Why is the opposition thriving in Sarawak?)

PM Najib was in Nanga Tada, looking for my ex-teacher!! Oha..Oha… (as per gkm2020!!).

Hopefully someone reads this on your behalf, Mr PM.

Sarawak Opposition politics used to be the domain of the Chinese, PN Najib. Politically, the fragmented Dayaks were and still are easily bluffed and appeased. Give them something like a few zinc sheets, a new jetty they were/are satisfied.

But of late, it’s the Dayaks that formed the main thrust of opposition politics. Despite the lack of funding, Dayak opposition is slowly eroding into BN support in the rural community. Why?

What is Dayak politics and what is Dayak opposition? A full study, Mr PM, may take a year or two. But if you asked differently: “what is dear to the Dayaks?” you’ll know your answer. The answer is “land”.

If PM Najib wants to stifle the growth of Dayak opposition, he must answer ALL the land issues. For years Dayak believe the government is the custodian of their interests. The phrases “Perintah bisi, perintah nemu agi” are the proof of their allegiance and “blind” trust on government policies and projects. The title-less” NCR and “temuda never became a sensitive issue until government-endorsed ventures started strong arm tactics to claim Dayaks’ land. This started during the early 90’s.

Contrary to BN’s assertion, the “educated Dayaks” are NOT behind this opposition. The cry for fair deals in land grab started in the longhouses. The first legal suit was filed by the longhouse folks. The educated Dayaks were drawn in much later.

As an example, the still hot Kanowit JV with Boustead was very much supported by educated Dayaks group. But failure to deliver on the agreement posed questions to them. They became aware that parallel cases were happening in Sri Aman, Batu Niah, Miri, Marudi. By the time the Kanowit longhouse Iban filed their suit, there are already more than 100 cases outstanding and waiting in the high court; Longhouse Dayaks versus government or government endorsed projects.

Longhouse Dayaks fought out of desperation Mr PM Najib. They have never intended to be in opposition politics.

The “kiasi, no-balls” town Dayaks (including yrs truly Empelesik Sungai) came in very much later. Thanks to the internet, some braver Dayaks started to relate their humiliations in the job market. Some voiced their frustrations in getting into the local university (not overseas, mind you) or government financing. The state government had ignored them. The Dayak ADUNs are busy with their own ventures. In most cases, it had been easier to make an appointment with a federal minister than with their ADUNs. If they ever visited the longhouses, once in 4 years, they would either be ignorant or else listening with one ear and out through another.

Then the 2008 GE jolted these so-called educated Dayaks. They believe the formidable BN can be forced to justice. They started to speak louder their on humiliations.

    1. Why are the Dayaks victimised in the civil service; 85% of the jobs owned by the 15% sector of the population? Why are Malayan teachers occupying the teaching post all over Sarawak? Why are the locals not hired? Why are only 10% heads of departments shared between Dayaks and Chinese?

    2. What are there so many changes to the State land code? How do we know our land will be safe next year? How is my grandfather’s and father’s land? Why are so many court cases involving Dayak Land? And why is the state government losses the few legal cases that managed to be heard in court? Why is it so difficult to obtain land titles? Even “tanah” at our kaki tangga is without valid QT.

    3. Why is the State so far backward when compared to others in Malaya? Why are there “buffalo highways” when Malaya is almost 100% covered by surfaced roads? Why is electricity not connected to people within the vicinity of a hydro-electric plant in Batang Ai? Why are there cries for clean water after the forest are destroyed?

    4. Why are there 100,000 Dayaks in Malaya? Didn’t Deputy/CM Finance Minister say Sarawak has only 5% unemployment in the March 2008 ADUN? Where has the yearly Federal grant go to? Why is the 18-point agreement not adhered to?

    5. Why are non-Dayak profiling the rules and laws on Dayak Land? Why are Dayak land laws announced by a non-Dayak? Why is the State Government fighting the people (Malays, Melanaus, Ibans, Bidayuhs, Chinese etc) it professes to represent?

    6. And ABOVE all: what are the Dayak ADUN, Ministers and Deputy Chief Minister doing? Why are they so silent on issues concerning the Dayaks? Are they DUMB?

Suddenly it merged, Mr PM; the humiliation felt by both the longhouse Dayaks and the town Dayaks forced them to merge.

That, Mr PM Najib, in total is Dayak opposition politics, which has little concern to Federal politics. The strength that you heard and witnessed is derived from the huge section of the Dayaks that have been cheated, ignored and marginalised over the years. Today BN politicians attributed that strength as work of opposition – chisss.. simpleton Apai Saloi/MatJenin/Ah Beng’s logic. Don’t ever believe them. Everywhere BN goes, they looked for footsteps in front and behind because “opposition” have been there or are following them; a prime example of a person scared of his own shadow.

If PR is the party we can hinge on, let it be, Mr PM. We haven’t seen the evil of PR as yet, but we have witnessed the corrupted ways of the BN machineries. Unlike their educated counterpart, the longhouse opposition hasn’t learned about the RM9.8b Bakun that escalated to RM21b, nor do they understand its implication or what that RM11b difference represents. They have not heard how State ADUN majestic building was built way out of budget. Or how a prison cell in Kuching can cost as much as a condominium in KL. Even the Port Klang financial fiasco is alien to them.

    But we all want justice.

And if a Dayak, dead or alive, a minister or blogger, blocks and denies us the justice we need, that is treason of the highest level, Sir. We Ibans call that “makai bansa diri empu.” There are many around.

  42. gkm2020 on February 22nd, 2010 9:57 am

    Saudara Arah,

First of all, I never declare that I want or wish to be a hero nor that I want to boost myself here in this blog…..maybe it is you who had said so. There’s no hero here but we’re all hero if we all fight for our Bansa Dayak – Native Rights!!!

What do I get of becoming a champion here? Why busy body? I’ve no interest in becoming a candidate for the coming GE.

I am happy and have enough of my own right now but what I am or we DB are fighting for here in this blog is for our Bansa Dayak – “Borneo Native Rights” and “Rule of Justice” including yours and your next generation too (i.e. if you’re Bansa Dayak).

We believe in our “sacrifice” now rather than become a lamb-chop dish for BN (47 years) to be slaughtered, marginalized, discriminated, divided, subdivided and left as “Bangsa Orang Setinggan Sarawak” (BOSS). But instead we want to be “Bangsa Orang Setaraf Sarawak” and be a true rakyat ‘BOSS’ for the government.

BN believe in ‘Bulldoze Orang Setinggan Sarawak’ policy. ‘Rumahpanjai’ is no ‘setinggan’ my friend, that is where our Adat start with “abi-besi”.

I just hope you do – instead of piggy-back on “Bangsa Negatif” (BN) or “Bansa Ngemula” (BN) or “Barisan Nipu” (BN) or “Barisan Ngemelit” (BN).

What have Dayak benefits from BN for the last 47 years when compare to other races? Have you not even realized and/or have analyzed it? Sorry, my vote goes to any opposition platform.

Don’t judge on others too quickly my friend….but whatever it is; I forgive you for being naïve and never under estimate of a focus group like DB.

Our Lord Jesus Christ firmly exclaims “Do not judge, or you too will be judge. For in the same way you judge others, you will be judge, and with the measure you use, it will be measure to you. Why do you look at the speck of sawdust in your brother’s eye and pay no attention to the plank in your own eye? How can you say to your brother, ‘Let me take the speck out your eye, when all the time there is a plank in your own eye? You hypocrite, first take the plank out of your own eye, and then you will see clearly to remove the speck from your brother’s eye” (Matthew 7:5-7 NIV).

Lastly, don’t predict too early Saudara Arah that BN will win the coming GE in Sarawak…..

Tang….kada enda tekalih menua Borneo – nuan empu pin enda nemu?

    Agi Idup – Agi Ngelaban…..Hoooo….Haaaaa!!!!

Look at Dalai Lama…he was in US seeking help for an independant Tibet from China. We have not come to that stage yet but, just continue our struggles without boundaries and limitation or whatever cost it takes to gain favour from our own people.

BN is moving rapidly in the Iban territory, with the help of Najib…so election will be announced soon by Taib mamut..he is smiling right now, cos Najib’s presence is a boost to him.
