Malaysia living on money pump in by government – it is bad.

Taken from The Malaysian Insider

Dayakbaru:

We must explain to the people that Malaysia economy is artificial – ” it is supported by money pump in by the government into the economy”. It is not real growth. The real situation now is very little money is moving around and available in the market. Many people are just keeping their money but others pump out their money overseas. Corrupted politicians are hiding their money overseas – they are not reinvesting in Malaysia.

Najib will not be able to stay for long undrr this situation to lead the government. BN is bound to lose the next election. In Sarawak, the cash that Taib got will be used to buy vote. If Dayak continue not to be able to change their ways -the Dayak stuggle would go down to only $10 -$50.00 per vote. But situation has changed and I want Dayakbaru to push for that change so we may succeed to take our community from being ‘marginalized” by BN.

Let us get rid of “Perintah BN Munoh Rakyat”.

The Malaysian Insider Article

By Asrul Hadi Abdullah Sani

KUALA LUMPUR, Feb 26 — Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim said today that prime minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak is “premature” in declaring the worst is over after the economy grew by 4.5 per cent for the fourth quarter of 2009.

Najib is irresponsible

The opposition leader and former finance minister said that the announcement is “irresponsible” because the growth is largely a result of pump priming and the government’s stimulus package spending.

“The latest declaration by the Prime Minister that the worst is over when the country’s GDP grew at 4.5 per cent in the last quarter of 2009 is not only premature but irresponsible.

“It is clear that the supposedly stronger growth was due to the massive pump priming by the government over the last year. Propping up the sagging economy is at best a stop gap measure. Pump priming by definition cannot be permanent. I am deeply concerned that the continuous reliance on massive spending will take us down the road to economic serfdom. And that may not be too distant in the future.

Only one economic policy – increase public expenditure

“Since 1998, the Barisan Nasional government has implemented only one economic policy ie increasing public expenditure (most of the time unnecessarily through massive projects that were subjected to leakages and inflated costs) to make up for the dramatic decrease in private spending.,” he said in a press statement.

Najib had acknowledged that the positive growth in Q4 was helped largely by the government’s push to pump some RM1 billion a month into the economy which resulted in the country’s economic performance faring better than expected.

“Over 113,000 projects under the two stimulus packages have and are being implemented, involving a total value of RM17 billion. Out of that, the government has made a payment of RM13.9 billion. Therefore on average, the government has pumped approximately RM1 billion per month into the market from January 2009,” said Najib last week when announcing the country economic performance for 2009.

5% growth – for Malaysia but still we are lagging in the region, our performance is the worst

Najib had set a target for his administration of growing the economy this year by five per cent which he said could be achieved barring unforeseen circumstances.

However Anwar said today that the five per cent growth prediction is “disingenuous” as the country is still lagging behind in the region.

“Trumpeting a 5 per cent growth for 2010 is disingenuous at best. What the Prime Minister does not say to the people is that even if our economy grows by 5 per cent, Malaysia will continue to fall behind Korea, Singapore, Taiwan, Indonesia, Thailand, Philippines and even Vietnam in 2010.

“The latest economic forecast by IMF published in October 2009 shows that in 2010, Malaysia is expected to perform the worst among all these countries even as the world economy shows signs of recovery. Vietnam is expected to double our growth rate while the rest will outpace Malaysia by an average of 50 per cent,” he said.

Anwar also stressed that private investment had dropped significantly in the past decade to contribute only 28 per cent of the country’s GDP.

Our private investment has dropped to a mere 1%

“The data on private investment trending since 1991 should serve as a reminder of the path to economic damnation that BN has dragged us into. While private investments grew at the compound annual growth rate of 16.2 per cent between 1991 and 1997, this has dropped severely to a marginal growth of 1 per cent between 1998 and 2008.

“Translating this into private investments in real terms, between 2005 and 2008, private investments into our economy stagnated at RM20.3 billion each year. This is even lower than the private investments figure in 1991, nearly 20 years ago.

BN is clueless on economics - it is mismanagement and corruption

“While Barisan Nasional remains clueless about rejuvenating the economy for the long term, private investments have plunged from the pre-1997 days when it constituted 40 per cent of the gross domestic products (in real terms), to an average of 28 per cent in the last decade,” he said.

Anwar said that the current economic stagnation is due to Barisan Nasional’s “mismanagement and corruption.”

“The Barisan Nasional government must own up to the fact that our economy is the way it is because of the years of mismanagement and corruption perpetrated by the powers that be.

Pakatan Rakyat offer efficiently managed economy

“The future wealth of our country can only be guaranteed by a government that is accountable to the people where transparency and good governance are absolutely essential. That is why Pakatan Rakyat will remain relentless in the pursuit to offer the people an efficiently managed economy that will sustain the livelihood of future generations,” he said.

    DB Readers and All,

First,to the people of Sarawak pump money, Petronas Money, Ali Baba Money, Arab Money, NCR Money, World Bank money,Stolen money,Soros Money does not matter. So long its legal tender its good money and of course counterfiet note is bad money.

No Sarawakian with a right frame of mind will say that the RM3.4 billion pumped by the Federal gomen for the development of Sarawak is bad money.
However I am the least suprise if DB insisted its bad money as their agenda is toward anti-development & anti-establishment.

“Ninety-five percent of Sarawak will be connected with electricity supply and 90% of the state’s households will enjoy treated water by 2012, said Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak.

He said the RM3.4bil allocation for infrastructure projects in Sarawak under the 10th Malaysia Plan and National Key Results Areas (NKRAs) was testimony to the close ties between the Federal Government and the state.

“This is our commitment to Sarawak. We have forged a good understanding that development projects be implemented smoothly, not only in the rural area but throughout the state,” Najib said .

Let us just go thru basic finance, DL.

There is a difference between Money and Currency. Money is closely to GDP. It reflects the health of the economy. This refers to the big picture (fiscal).

Currency is paper. We talk about “legal tender,” because money come from the printing machine. The strength of this currency is determined by gold (old days) and the GDP (nowadays). You can spend money without using the “legal tender” currency.
I hope you see the difference, sir.

Take the example of Zimbabwe. It has plenty of currency, but it has no money. To buy a loaf of bread, you need to carry your currency with a wheelbarrow. Zimbabwe has currency but it has no money. All their currency is legal tender but that currency has no value.

The problem with Zimbabwe could be ours if we continue to misappropriate our earnings. Corruption, pilferages (eg sent overseas thru money changers) and wrong priorities are proven recipe for economic disasters. If we don’t spend on our income, but instead borrow or spend on our savings, that is “mencuri” from our children and grandchildren. This is basic finance – whether you are a Sarawakian or not, that is not right.

This article suggested that PM Najib is possibly spending the nation’s savings for political expediency.

But in this case I agree with you – take the money. It would be spent elsewhere anyway.

Our current PM is quite extravagant…
He spent lavishly on sarawak so as materialise his dream for BN power.

Too dependant on the Gov’t is a bad practice/habit. We tend to become complacent and oblivion in our struggle. We easily submit to our masters and become the “AU mentality” Pak Turut. We are being manipulated and exploited, laban udah kenyang diberi makai!!!!

Free for all…BN seats are up for grabs in the next GE.

  6. yurich on February 28th, 2010 12:27 am

Yes, the economy is down. All corporation and organization are budgeting their expenditure lower and lower from year to year. Even the government departments are tightening their spending. We are also tightening our own budget to as we are worried about the sliding of the economy due to deviation (read = corruption). This is what Dato’ Sri Anwar wrote : http://www.sarawaknetwork.com/apps/blog/show/2991432-they-are-not-being-honest

    Thank you.

    Dear DB Readers and All,

    UNDISCLOSED FINANCIAL INTELLIGENT REPORT:

The recent RM3.4bil (US$1B) allocation for infrastructure projects in Sarawak under the 10th Malaysia Plan and National Key Results Areas (NKRAs) project funding as announced by Najib recently, the State Grid Corporation of China (SGCC) US$11B and the Aluminum Corp of China Ltd (Chalco) US$1B project funding for Sarawak SCORE have ‘no real money’ (digital figure but not hard cash).

The project papers are real but no real money (cashless). Hope someone has not paid his/her/their ‘toll’ when lobbying such projects. And hope such projects would not be used as a based for ‘politico mileage’?

There’s no real money as the figure have been converted into “quota system” (both for credit and investment quota) by the Bank for International Settlement (BIS) under the reorganization of the international monetary system!!

The Bank for International Settlements (BIS) is an international organization of central banks which “fosters international monetary and financial cooperation and serves as a bank for central banks”.

“Quotas” also determine how much each member country central bank can borrow from the IMF and the World Bank when in need of aid.

If the funds are not approved by BIS then for sure the projects cannot take off….but drag on….and/or basically stuck… Wonder who is behind BIS today neh?

In addition Malaysia is still short of Ringgits circulation in the market to balance-up the incoming USD and other foreign currencies.

Wonder what happened to our legal tender money; RM500.oo and RM1000.oo banknotes (Serial No. ZY, ZZ, ZV, ZA, ZB)?

Dini enda penungak duit tu neh….?? Sapa enda nyimpan duit tu neh? Berapa mayoh penyampau semua duit tu neh?

NOTES: I hope you all could think beyond it here…..

Aku arap kita ditu anang terkejut…..Cheers!

  8. gkm2020 on February 28th, 2010 10:33 am

Just my analytical research and thoughts:

THE FRAGILE MALAYSIAN ECONOMY AND DEBTS RIDDEN NEXT GENERATION!!

First, of all’ I don’t trust whatever the BN government announces using ‘one-sided control’ media.

Yet, mostly ‘false hope’ and/or ‘gimmick hope’. The early 60s, 70s, 80s and 90s ‘wayang’ have much been watched by the rakyat.

Secondly, when they use their own so-called economists, I trust them even less.

Get independent outside financial experts and let them inform us. They will paint the truth, instead of what we are being fed by these BN goons.

The thing I cannot ‘stand’ is the BN government thinking we the ‘rakyat’ were born yesterday and/or new born babies or kindergarten kids.

The country economy had been that way since the mid-90s and obviously public spending cannot continue indefinitely, and sooner or later we have to address the deficit or risk the ringgit falling.

Besides, the BN government is effectively bankrupt and relies on Petronas oil income, EPF, MAS, TMB, TNB and other GLCs even to pay operating expenditure. This is absolutely a very dangerous and critical situation.

Najib’s pronouncement that Malaysia is out of the economic woods is but a smokescreen to hoodwink the unenlightened public and the rural folks.

There is no doubt that our FDI or PFI has plummeted, foreign investors are wary because of the racism, extremism, fragile laws and enforcements policies, marginalization, bulldozer policy and unstable political climate here.

Najib should go to the ground and see for himself how average (not BN political plunderers) Malaysians are trying to keep their heads above water.

His denial syndrome is not going to fool anyone. Soon we’ll be exporting Malaysian maids and manual laborers to Singapore, Vietnam, India, Middle East and Indonesia.

I not only pity ourselves today but truly pity the next generation of Malaysians who will be paying for our past and current culture of ‘entitled’ corruption. Wake up my peoples or we’re done for!

Today the economic growth rate of Vietnam, India, Thailand and Indonesia already far exceeds Malaysia. Not to mentioned our helpless Dayak communities.

These countries social activity and intellectual development is also better with the gap between us and them narrowing. According to an economist who recently surveyed the Philippines, he thinks in 20 years’ time, Malaysia can replace Philippines in becoming a world exporter of maids.

Yes, Najib is trying to pull wool over the eyes of the rakyat. The KLCI shows increases while the prices of the stocks do not reflect the increases.

This is one clear sign of manipulations of the share market to give “false hope” and/or “speculated hope” to the small investors. They become the suckers.

Bullish predictions by pea-brain leaders with BN devilish political agendas are intended to suck in the small investors who would become the losers in the end. So be warned!

The BN government pump-priming is unsustainable. The growth that really matters is private investments and that has fallen precipitously. Even the locals have no confidence in investing in the domestic economy, what more to say foreign investors?

The economy will continue to stagnate because UMNO leaders cannot make the connection between a robust democracy which respects the rule of law, justice and economic performance.

The current BN negative issues, it can only be good for the politics of the opposition alliance. Those with money should consider it a blessing in disguise. There are always opportunities where there are problems.

Those who only have their proverbial shirts on their backs should consider going into small trades for themselves. Those who depend on wages will be run out of town by the illegal immigrants.

UMNO will never change but instead change their own self policy to fit their needs and wants for their own benefits and/or advantage, and defend it at all cost to maintain their sustainability and co-existence!

Another new meaning for UMNO is “Untuk Melayu – Not Others”. Their politics is based on jealousy, double standard, hypocrisy, racist, nepotism, cronyism, divide and sub-divided bumiputraism, extremist of the non-Muslim bumiputra and/or non-bumiputra in politics and business.

1Malaysia is a failure concept instead it’s 1Mensia; Dayak would have to say it as “siti bansa aja – UMNO policy” and/or “siko mensia aja – Taib policy”

Hence, they will always be looking for ways to become as rich as possible in the shortest time possible by stealing the people’s sweat from the Treasury.

So, think deeply my friends. Don’t be blind the BN’s ringgits and ‘wayang kulit’.

If only you could understand and learn from the past and/or history, we would be better tomorrow. Votes for your rights and “NATIVE RIGHTS”!!

Lastly, on what I can predict that MALAYSIA ‘MAYBE’ GONE, COLLAPSE, KAPUT AND DISINTEGRATED SOON! Just mark my words.

Cheers! Agi Idup – Agi Ngelaban…..Hooo….Haaa….!!!!!

“First,to the people of Sarawak pump money, Petronas Money, Ali Baba Money, Arab Money, NCR Money, World Bank money,Stolen money,Soros Money does not matter. So long its legal tender its good money and of course counterfiet note is bad money.” DL

DL, I propose you get some advices from more knowledgeable colleagues. My impression is that there is a lot of political knowledge but when it comes to substantial discussions your team just can’t even differentiate between “money and currency.” At other place and times I would laugh, but here I am extremely sad.

Somehow, this reflects the very essence of Dayak Politicians. Survival and wellbeing of the Dayaks are politicised. We are already so much behind others, come next generation where would we be? The new generation that make suggestions are labelled as “instigators” and “mantah perintah.” Isn’t that sad? Are we Dayaks not fragmented left-right-centre already?

Secondly it shows our Dayak leaders do not know the limit of their own capabilities. How money is generated and spent is beyond their comprehension. That is why they do not see the need to check on failed projects, cost over-run or useless, non-generating projects. That also explains why in the ADUN meetings they have nothing to say?

The Malaysian economic policies have an overall macro approach both in its fiscal and economic policies, but you Dayak leaders must be able to zero in to the specific needs of the community. You need to study, formulate and then highlight these needs. You must be able to rise above longhouse politics to extrapolate Dayaks’ in the next 5, 10, 20 years. Don’t answer us here with short term appeasement of skim empurau, skim ikan semah.

Since last week, the Malay NGOs are fighting and defending their rights, emphasising what had been their rights since independence.

The Indians had stated their needs, asking for fair percentage of employment in the government service. So are the Chinese.

What about you Dayak Leaders? Where are your blue prints and strategies? If you don’t have one, please get the Dayak professionals in. We are willing to help – most of us are willing to help without fees. Otherwise, for the love of your community, let the younger people take over.

It is sad – sad indeed.

Election gimmicks and empty promises are BN stigma when election is near. It happened in the past and now and it will happened again in the future. I just can’t stop laughing when he announces 3.4 billions allocation to improve the infrastructures in Sarawak because to me 3.4 billions becomes 3.4 millions is good enough.

  13. MERAMAT TAJAK on March 1st, 2010 12:12 pm

    Emplesik Sungai,

    Well-put.

Only the day before yesterday,I heard a a fragment of a speech by someone who sounded like an Iban YB, which tickle my funny bone, extolling the greatness of SCORE:

“Maioh amat peluang bekerja dia ila. Tang meh kitai bansa anang tinggal laban orang bukai. Belajar bebendar. Pengawa diak beguna ke pengelandik. Enti nadai pengelandik, nadai meh ulih mangku utai diak. Enti enda nemu, niki agai opis kunsil, opis D.O.”

And this type of speech, would be repeated ad nauseum by the YBs,like a broken record player.

Boring, vacuous and full of sweet nothings.

Then there is another opt-repeated speech by Taib, that extol the wealth to be gain from NCR Land Development by Pelita – which would be glibly repeated by other Dayak YBs

“Unused NCR land – its a povert trap”.

The fact that the land would be locked down for 60 years, of which for the first 10 years there would be no dividend except for RM 130 per hectare/year, never seem to cross the YBs mind.

The glib phrase, without the least bit of economic analysis and social studies, became an anthem of sorts – to our present Dayak YBs. It seems that whatever Taib wants them to do and say, they would jump to their feet

At one time, I read that a senior Iban YB even touted that through NCR Land Development the Dayaks would get Land Title (what a crockpot logic is that ?!!!).

Given what you just wrote and what must be in the minds of many DB readers, I’ll summarise why the Dayak YBs are not doing their job, as follow:

    (1) Confuse between money and currency, politics and economy, culture and … agriculture, er… good and bad

    (2) Perpetually scared of many things … Taib, their financiers,UMNO … and would not want to breath any signs of dissension – anywhere, at all times, for fear of losing their seat

    (3) Taking for granted the “support by their electoral constituency” and confident that MRPs and TR allowance would see them thru election after election

    (4) Infighting and jockeying for position, to get to the spoils from government projects for themselves and for their “crony”, er..friends (remember the phrase, no crony – only friends !)

    (5) They have become oblivious to the wretched poverty of their Dayak brethrens due to the incessant propaganda over RTM showing “Malaysians” driving Proton Saga to work and living in bungalows with swimming pool (in their mind, thats how Dayak live as well)

    (6) Politics of development, means Taib and his family develop their wealth to a few billion, and the YBs would continuously aspire to get a piece of the action, instead of getting any debris for their Dayak constituency

    (7) Yes, they are doing their dream job, people ! – just not the kind of job, that you and I, the peons rakyat expect them to do when they were voted into the seat !

    (8) They can’t say the word “Dayak” anymore (yeah, its in the general order), so they can’t think about “Dayak” as well. There aint no Dayak..in Sarawak. They have to think multi-racial: watch “multi-racial” TV, and think multi-racial (bangla, indon, bugis, jave, madura..) folks working in the NCR land. They can’t think multi-racial, and think of “pengayau” in 3-piece suit, driving a merc and trade at the stock exchange.

    (9) They have to live by the “consensus” of BN: what UMNO says, so be it. Thats why the civil service is created and owned by UMNO to Malayanised the Sarawak Civil Service – all over again (RIP Stephen – let it be), and the teachers are sent by Perkasa to Sarawak, to 1Islam the rural.

    (10) And finally, -”why worry”, come election day – they have Najib, Taib, Borneo Post, Sarawak Eastern,Berita Harian, RTM, … and MIP#1′s “army of monkeys” – to protect their seats from onslaught of “winds of change”

Blueprint, strategies, roadmaps – you say ? Nah, I got 10 reasons why Dayak YBs shall never harbor such thoughts. Let younger people take over ? No, mannnnn, no wayyy ….gotta make mo money

    Readers,

With Tan Tee Beng’s resignaion BN now regained its 2/3 majority. So how like that?

Nibong Tebal MP Tan Tee Beng (right) today became the second federal lawmaker to leave PKR, delivering another blow to the party that has seen sitting lawmakers leave nearly two years after their historic victory in Election 2008.

Tan made the announcement this morning, saying he will be an Independent MP like Bayan Baru MP Datuk Seri Zahrain Hashim.

  15. Empelesik Sungai on March 1st, 2010 1:57 pm

    See, Meramat Tajak?

Dino’s desultory posting is another prime example. I really don’t know what he has between his two ears. But it’s us who suffer; whether to laugh or to cry (or both).

Is he also a representation of BN’s capability?

Here I must salute Dr John for his level of tolerance. At my level, I would have long ago barred Dino. Saves a lot of gabbage.

  16. MERAMAT TAJAK on March 1st, 2010 3:24 pm

    Empelesik Sungai,

I won’t worry about Dino – or guys/gals like that.

    (1) He/she may not be actually a Dayak. So, no sense of betrayal there.Pretenders, are Dayak worst enemy. Think of Dino as non-Dayak, or those who got illgotten wealth from Dayak misery, and his/her action will fall into place – to be expected… Even a Dayak, speaking in his/her tongues and mentality – is well understood, for who they are; no enigma there – just primordial act of selfishly protecting their interest – their rice bowl.

    (2) The comments may serve the lowest common denominator at present. But I trust Dayak folks will get smarter albeit, slowly and will understand that a dishonest polemic speak volumes of the internal culture of deceit of the political party itself. PR folks must try to avoid the “I must win the argument at all cost” kind of mentality, and will manipulate the media, and speak of empty promises after another to the gullible,to become like so many BN folks and YBs.

    (3) The exclamation of “hallelujah” at every little govt project pronouncement, and at every political defections within Opposition political party, is an indication there is no firm ideological understanding – or the big picture, of the BN body politic that they are trying to defend. They are not followers of Ketuanan Melayu but perhaps, unwitting ball carriers. So these I take to be the act of harmless, fleeting followers of the BN regime. When there is a shock and awe event, these type of flowers would be running helter skelter to save their own skins, but otherwise harmless.

(4)I think, perhaps deep down inside, Dino and his/her friend may want to understand how to read the propaganda pieces from the mainstream media, who we know very well has vested interest in maintaining the status quo. If it helps, occasionally try to break down the news for them.

    (5) Finally, its a cliche but when all is said and done – there is no ground to be permanent enemies by the difference in political and socio-economic views, especially when there is no major ideological difference. Really, mere 1-2 million Dayak is a profound minority in a country of 26 million. No room for a fight to the death to flush out, even the most notorious of traitors.

I think the sensible approach is to respond to the posting if the author appear sincere and indicate a willingness to engage. If not, let them row their boat, and those of us who are interested in the genuine progress of Dayak – row our boat. Those who chose to row together with them, would normally have done so, with or without these guys so-called “agenda to neutralise DB”. I

I think the seed of change that DB bloggers has sowed and continue to nurture will grow on its own and will stand the test of time. As long as there are core people who care enough for the community without conniving for any material outcome, the seed will continue to grow.We ask of the detractors to be disciplined, but if they can’t or won’t do that due to their own shallow thoughts – or self interest, then let that be a measure of how bad things have become in the community after 47 years. That measure should strengthen our resolve to be more united and to rediscover who we really are, and thereby to regain our willingness to believe in own capacity to alleviate the indignity of the community from the multiple colonising and hegemonic forces in our history – up to the present.

  17. gkm2020 on March 1st, 2010 3:46 pm

    Unggal Dino & All,

    INFO:

Dear Nibong Tebal MP Tan Tee Beng,

I have been following very closely your outbursts both in the mainstream media and also from the online news portals.

As a constituent who voted for you, I am greatly ashamed by what you have done. We (me, my family and relatives) voted for you because you represented PKR and we place hope in PKR because we have no more hope in the ruling government run by Barisan Nasional politicians.

What hope do we have in a corrupt government, a government that encourages racial discrimination and a government that has cronies like the police, the MACC, the judiciary and the mainstream media who work in cohorts with them so they can milk the peoples’ money with impunity?

We want a better future for our children and our grandchildren and it was in people like you that we placed our trust in. But you turned out to be a big disappointment.

From your outbursts, it is very obvious that your motives are very selfish, immature and that you care only for yourself. You do not portray one bit someone who is concerned at all for the people who voted for you.

We had expected you to work with the present state government by complementing and supplementing them to bring Penang to greater heights.

Most important of all, we expected you to support the CAT (Competency, Accountability and Transparency) principles mooted by Lim Guan Eng because for us to move forward and progress as a nation we need a clean, efficient and people-centric government.

From the very beginning, I realized that Guan Eng will face many challenges after March 8, 2008 because he wanted to implement changes for a better Penang. We gave him and his colleagues our undivided supported and most important of all, we expected our MP Tan Tee Beng to also support him.

But what did you do? You chickened out, badmouthed him and hurled accusations at him hoping that fools like us will believe you and abandon Guan Eng so that you can achieve whatever personal agendas that you have secretly concealed within yourself.

Me, my family and my relatives now realise that you are no different from the politicians from Umno or MCA or Gerakan whom we greatly despise.

I, therefore, urge you to resign from your MP’s post because we certainly do not want you to represent us. You must do that if you are a principled and upright person.

Please do not even think of jumping to BN or a BN-friendly party because we have no appetite to be represented by someone who is associated with a party that indulges in corruption and racial discrimination.

We have been fed with enough poison for the last 50 years by BN. Enough is enough.

    Sincerely, Churchill
