RUMAH SETINGGAN DAYAK SARAWAK

My Personal Opinion
I dare to say that the Dayaks problems as I saw them from many decades ago have not changed at all. Granted there have been improvements in certain aspects of the conditions of the Dayaks, but in some others they have indeed deteriorated, sidelined, oppressed and marginalized.
Attached herein is a picture of an isolated Iban longhouse in Skandis, Lemanak. Skandis is located on the Kesit River within the Lubok Antu District;
“Buah Merdeka Sarawak 47 Taun Dipegai BN: Pemansang keno…..”

Looking from a Dayak perspective – Perception Outlook
It is true there are more Dayaks new rich produced through the government development programs, but concentration of wealth and corruption are becoming more chronic especially at the highest level in Dayak society.
Many new towns have been built with beautiful roads and unnecessary decorative bridges, but the condition of some Dayak rural villages appear to have remained the same since the Merdeka Day. Wonder which one of these two is our legitimate Merdeka Day: 31st August 1957 or 16th September 1963?
It is true that the incidence of absolute poverty among Dayaks has decreased, but relative poverty has increased as the gap between the rich minority and the poor majority has widened.
It is true that there are more Dayaks who are highly educated and have become successful professionals, but there is alarming deterioration in moral and ethical values among a growing number of Dayaks, including those holding important public offices. At the same time, there is also an increase in all kinds of criminal as well as anti-social activities.
It is true that there are many Dayaks who have built ostentatious palaces for themselves from the country’s wealth they have robbed. But many in the rural and underserved areas in Sarawak/Sabah still live in run-down huts, antique longhouse like the picture above and study in ill-equipped schools/clinics, sans electricity, lack of a proper sanitary system, lack of clean tap water, lack of accessibility, while a large number in urban slum areas are living in constant fear of forcible eviction. Good example of eviction; Rh. Nor Nyawai and Rh.Nyawin.
I am not suggesting that these are exclusively the Dayak problems. They are also shared by other communities - the Malays, Melanaus, Chinese, Indian and many others. But, comparatively a larger proportion of Dayaks are still lagging behind other races, in income, education, housing, business corporate, job opportunity and so forth.
Did our own current Dayak leaders care about all these and/or just merely denying the facts has never existed?
The Disadvantage Groups
What do I mean by the disadvantaged groups? Of course, basically they are the poor in the lower class. But I must say they also include the middle class income groups who can hardly afford decent living because of their big families and various economic factors to support and the ever-rising prices (food, oil and others) of daily essentials.
In fact, I would not exclude also the professionals, executives, businessmen and others in the upper- middle class who often face discrimination because of their ethnic background or political association, for example.
These disadvantaged groups are from different ethnic groups like the Dayaks in East Malaysia and not confined only to the liberal Malays, Indians, Orang Asli, Melanaus and the Chinese. But those who form the most majority are the pro-poor and low income groups, the bulk of whom are Dayaks.
In the process of politics and development, the perception and the reality to a large extent is that the Umno-Malays from the privileged groups and the Umno Alliance from the elite Melanaus and Malays of Sarawak and Sabah are the greatest beneficiaries. Even their own breed poor and disadvantaged Malays including some Melanau communities are not given their due share too.
A Broader Malaysia Approach Is Needed – Change WE Must
Herein, let us share these several observations which need to be emphasized and analyzed:
Firstly, in the name of the Dayaks as a whole, a small coterie or the paramount group of those in advantageous positions have managed to share or indirectly use or abuse the NEP and the State constitutional provisions and/or state ministerial special position to enrich themselves only.
In most cases they succeed, though many of them only temporarily on the basis of “know who” and “know opportunity” or “brokering frontier” Not “know how”. Unfortunately such privileges do not really benefits the rakyat who have entrusted them.
Secondly, poverty and low income, although largely are not exclusively Umno-Malay problems. There are “Orang Asli” (aboriginal peoples) in the Peninsula and “Orang Pribumi” (native peoples) in Sarawak and Sabah who are in more oppressive conditions than a large number of the Malay (“Orang Asal Tanah Ketuanan Melayu”) poor in Semananjung Malaysia.
Besides the Dayaks and the Orang Asli, there are also liberal Malays, Melanaus, Indians and Chinese working in the estates and/or living in the slum areas who are poor too. But just because their number is small it does not mean we can afford to neglect and exclude them from the development process.
Malaysia is for all Malaysian. 1Malaysia I presume is for ‘Umno First – Umno Priority’ and/or ‘Umno Didahulukan – Kejuaraan Kaum Melayu’? UMNO could also mean “Untuk Melayu – No Others”.
Be that as it may, the fact to be stressed is that the Dayaks still constitute the big majority of the poor and deprived not only in East Malaysia but in this country.
So, primary attention must justifiably be focused on them from now on; but there is no justification for neglecting the non-Dayaks in a similar or sometimes worse plight.
Dayaks must build alliance and network with other races otherwise they too would follow the trait of “Ketuanan Melayu”. Sarawak is for all Sarawakian not for some.
Thirdly, the persistence of absolute poverty and deterioration of relative poverty affect access to good education, health services, housing and so forth among the poor. Since the majority of Dayaks are poor, they are most adversely affected.
Again this plight is not the monopoly of just the Dayaks for they are shared also by the poor from other ethnic groups of Malaysia.
The cause of all these can be traced to the existing socio-economic system and government policies, which are strongly rooted in the dominating free enterprise (laissez faire) philosophy. Change the system and policies for the people Not the special privilege people.
1Malaysia venture remain rhetoric
Ironically, beyond beautiful rhetoric like 1Malaysia venture, there has been insufficient sensitivity and commitment among many Malay government leaders towards the poor rakyat who are the majority Dayaks.
At the same time too, many non-Malay capitalists have become wealthier than the leading Malay corporate figures enjoying special support and sponsorship. This situation is even worse when you compare with the Dayak traitors; ‘kaban makai kaban’ or ‘kaban nyual bansa’. Yet there’s still below 1% or none of the Dayak entrepreneur have been successful in the corporate arena in Malaysia.
Although far from being ‘Bumiputera’ and/or ‘special privilege people’, they are able to enjoy the benefits from the big allocations for development under NEP projects, primarily through their “know who” links with powerful politicians whom they can often easily buy off.
The BN-UMNO elites certainly have more privileges than the ordinary Malays than other races; whereas most of the Dayak politicians alliance to the current BN conglomerates are only hearsay of the ‘billions ringgits budget/project’ but unfortunately they only get a ‘tiny-splinter’ (tai-ugei) of the project benefits for themselves.
In sadness, what about the Dayak community(s) in general; their NGOs (SDNU, DBNA, SDGA, etc), business community (DCCI and others) and their grassroots level (rural and the underserved areas)?
Glokalization of Sarawak and Sabah – UMNO land of opportunity
There is something inherent in this system and the policies that work against the interest of the poor and the weak. With the influence of globalization (a new form of colonialism), the prevailing political power structure and the dominating free enterprise philosophy, the system favoring the rich few will persist for quite some time.
That’s where PM Najib Razak got his new idea of “Glokal” Malays capable of competing locally as well as globally and to empower Umno future, were clamoring for extending quotas, special privileges and other elements of the New Economic Policy.
That is, more “crutches’ and the obvious irony was lost on everyone in particular the rakyat. This “Glokal” system which towering the Malay Personality and Supremacy could also means to ‘glocalize’ Sarawak and Sabah natural resources and assets. Who should we save; the Umno-BN or the rakyat?
For Umno – Sarawak and Sabah is truly a land of many opportunities and act as their ‘Fixed Deposit’ and/or as ‘collateral’ to bailout any Umno unforeseen risk.
There is a great need to temper this system with humanitarian and egalitarian values and programs. There is still need for positive discrimination. But it should be based not on ethnicity, but on necessity that cuts across ethnic line.
New Economic Policy (NEP) primary focus is for “Ketuanan Melayu”
This, ironically, prevails despite the so-called “Ketuanan Melayu” (Malay supremacy), constitutional guarantees on the Malay special position and the New Economic Policy (NEP).
Admittedly, this country has witnessed a lot of development especially after the NEP. But unfortunately, they emphasize more on politics and economic rather than social and human development.
At the same time, they stress more on physical or material rather than moral or ethical development.
There is more allocation on wasteful mega projects to provide big contracts and commissions to cronies rather than providing social facilities for the greater benefit and welfare of the ordinary people, especially the disadvantaged groups.
Malaysian Economic Agenda (MEA)
I’d like to share the view that after 47 years, there is a need to reappraise the NEP and replace it with a new Malaysian Economic Agenda (MEA) as mooted by DS Anwar Ibrahim and accepted as PR policy.
This agenda contains the following important ingredients:
- It focuses on the poor and disadvantaged, with social facilities provided more for their welfare and emancipation,
- It introduces poverty alleviation and development programs not only for the Malay rural poor, but providing similar opportunities and equitable treatment to the other ethnic groups including the Dayaks, and cutting across ethnic boundaries,
- It restricts powerful political leaders and their cronies accumulating wealth from filthy sources and by dirty means,
- It wages effective war against corruption, waste and mismanagement, and
- It empowers the people, particularly the poor and disadvantaged people of all races, so that they can be liberated from slavish mentality and have the courage to promote and defend their basic economic and social rights.
The Way Forward
The idea of replacing the NEP with the MEA is to generate balanced development to achieve social justice through fair and equitable distribution of the country’s economic and social resources.
Since the policy and orientation of MEA is based on the dictum of ‘Keperluan Rakyat’ i.e. concern for the plight of the people, the poor in particular, it will certainly be most advantageous to the Dayaks, the Orang Asli, the liberal/sidelined Malays and the Indians who still form the majority poor and including the Chinese too.
In general the MEA model would certainly benefit all; for the people, by the people and with the people. At the same time it can guarantee greater ethnic stability because the non-Malays are included in the equation. What is needed now and today is “Ketuanan Rakyat” (People’s Supremacy). This is the way forward!
Conclusion
Justice was never won without personal sacrifice whether measured in time volunteered, energy devoted to a cause, or financial support generously given.
We need each other now and more than ever before the support in our struggle for Justice, Equality, Fairness, Accountability and Tolerance.
Your contribution is not just mind that builds up into a wave of Change. Commitment, sincerity, persistent, our moral values and momentum must be kept alive to empower the Change. Change WE Must – Change MUST We!

Nya meh pemansang ti selalu disebut bala Dayaklama,PEMANSANG,PEMANSANG,PEMELI !!!!!!!
BN want Dayaks to be their living Museums while they will use the revenue reaping from sale of NCR land and forests to have breakfasts in Paris and shopping in New York.
gkm2020…well written and spelled out the real truth.
Tintin Tinja…I go for the truth not just “au or yes only”
By look at it, is the `longhouse` resembles the hardcore poor families that need welfare aids, or the type of longhouse under the category politics of development in which Tinting ak. Tinjau and dayaklama gangs claimed that Sarawak has developed tremendously and not a single race in Sarawak would left out from enjoying the benefits of the politics of development.
Why John Jamban`s paramount chief was hiding this type of longhouse from Najib during his visit to Sarawak recently. I think Najib would be proud of the Ibans if he saw the longhouse.
Saddened by the sight.
Livestock [Pig/chicken]breeding farm is well-off than what we see.
Poor folks!!!, not even entitled for the low-cost or ‘mesra rakyat’ house.
Highlight in the media or ask karam singh to do some reporting in ADUAN RAKYAT..

I like the photo of the longhouse above and hope that it will not be demolished in the near future. It’s so antique and it could be turned into a tourist magnet. As the ibans are getting better in their own ways and if there is no afford to preserve this antique, the future generation will no longer be able to see the real life antique of the ibans.
Hope the dwellers of this longhouse will not demolish it to give way for their new terrace longhouse.
Today, there are not many of such longhouse; majority of the ibans, even in the remote areas, live in stone caves.
Please preserve this antique heritage and don’t look at it negatively; it is a tourist magnet!!!

I have been to many such longhouses and even those that is worst then what you see in the picture.
Changop 4540 and company is sitting comfortably in their office.
More of such pictures will be shown later. Is that what we expect after 47 years since the formation of Malaysia?
Change WE Must
Although they are very eye-sore to the State and regarded as rotten fruit of independence for the past 47 years, I hope such longhouses be registered as cultural heritage and not to look down at their poor home.
Kaban,

Hello Bloggers and Readers,
“Figure don’t lies, Specialist Instigators like DB should know that”. Those were the words of Dayak Paramount Chief (DPC) to DL ad-hoc committee during the tea reception at the former resident last weekend. DPC was responding to DB bloggers attempt in poisoning the mind of NCR land owners against land development scheme initiated by DN gomen.
According to DPC SALCRA Oil Palm scheme would be getting bigger dividend than anticipated. For example in 2009 alone SALCRA paid out RM37 millions and to-dates dividends totaling RM334 millions has already been paid to some 18,000 NCR land owner participating in SALCRA.
Because of the encourage success more JV schemes would be expanded to other areas in the state. By 2020 DPC envisage to have at least one million acres of NCR land for the JV scheme.
Again DPC reiterated his willingness to provide a special allocation to DL bloggers during the coming state polls to counter and neutralize DB’s unfounded and baseless allegations against the establishment.
Salam 1Malaysia.

I’M FURIOUS!!!
They were the victims of failed economic policy of prentah Taib on Bumiputra lain-lain in Sarawak. He had done little to change the standard of living among Dayaks…
Migrating to other areas is a difficult option to make for greener pastures…we cant blame them, its their rights and freedom in this capitalist society, where people dare to wonder elsewhere [you name it] to make end meets.
What saddened me, the old folks were left to defend their land…with less knowledge and means to fight the greedy landlords, their land eventually falls onto the hand of the invaders.
Their son/daughters never bother about what is happening in their kampung.
Ignorant, reluctant on their part, since they were quite happy with their lifestyles in towns and cities.
IT’s CATASTROPHIC…!!
Brother Changop…which university that taught you about “super-imposed”? …if you have nothing to say better suck your tongue…don’t make fun of yourself.
GKM2020,
Is Jamban cleaner @ Aggu ….pembela Melayu & Islam….not sure???
Politics of deception and discrimination!
Melanau dibela oleh Taib! Dayak dibela oleh siapa….Paramount chief??? I DONT THINK SO….
The ‘dayak Gestapo’ will catch these pro-dayaklama mentality…..u can run but can’t hide.
The Iban Taliban/Red Warriors will not fail the DB civilization…

Peda di’ ditu mapap, maya buah, buah tau dijual magang buahnya baka engkabang, engekeranji, rian. Getah semua udah tau ditangkal magang. Diatu nama utai dipeda, kelapa sawit sebuti idup enda mati, orang ke kereja dia bala madi nuan indun magang ga mapap. Bala madi nuan indun tu ukai semina gawa dia aja mapap tang ngacau tanah buah ke semak endornya.
Dividend setaun enggi apai aku, dibayar 2x=RM3000, maya semak gawai enggau ujung taun, kira di’ sebulan mapap. Tang enda iboh utai bukai getah endornya enti ditangkal maya diatu pelaba aku mayoh agi penatai ia mapap, mapap.
Kira getah dia kami nangkal suba maya ke agi mit, bisi 16 kepin sari ba siti tanah aja. Kira meh sekepin sekilo :-
16 kepin= 16 kilo

= RM 112 per day
Kira sebulan ulih nangkal 15 ari,
= 15 x RM 112
= RM 1680 per month
Dalam setaun kira meh ulih nangkal 6 bulan aja,
= 6 x RM 1680
= RM 10,080.00 per yr
Peda nuan enggau manah-manah tu mapap, tu baru ba siti tanah aja, bedau ba tanah bukai, pia mega penatai ba utai bukai ba tanahnya baka sida rutan, upa enggau utai bukai bedau dikiranya mapap.

Dividen beri SALCRA enda ibuh ditusi nuan JJ. Laban nuan engka ninga tusi ari kaban nuan..Tang pemaioh bla dayak ditu, pelaba aku bisi kena JV enggau SALCRA tanah sida.Sida nemu nama utai nyadi serta bakani condition pengudah tanah sida dikereja SALCRA.
But if we looked into it more deeper… Why not goverment give authorise to Dayak community to get the permit and develope their own lands?
They can give the subsidies as a “modal” for them to develope their own land. So, make a rule, end of the year they need to pay tax defend on how big or how much their income per year. That we call help, and inisiatif to bring dayak community move forward….
But what we saw…??? They just hired the rich people, some “tauke” to develope NCR land or “Pemakai menua” for Dayak people. Why??
Did they think dayak community can’t handle that kind of bussiness?? I don’t think so… Because most of oil palm staff is dayak people, bulldozer operator is dayak people??
Why not they give the chance to dayak to handle that kind of bussiness. All is monopolised by Chinese tauke, Malay Company…But where is Dayak company?? Where is dayak community???
It was in front of out eyes, the answer for that.
Because if dayak handle their own bussiness on their own land, some body will never gain the profit..If the dayak handle their own bussiness…no body will become their “kuli”…
Ad if the dayak , develope their own land… They don’t have any land..and lost their own side income…
Thank & Regards,
Machan & Julau People.

For your info, this longhouse was built in 1969 and was completed in 1970 (Ng. Kesit, Lamanak) but unfortunately until todate this 68x pax longhouse still remain the same. There is no proper humanitarian infrastructure to this longhouse except by riverine and/or logging road. Why? 47 years of independence?
In addition most of the forest near this heritage longhouse had been ‘cut down’ to support the BN Economic of Timber and Land Policy. The timber resources had gone but the natives remain poverty and backward. Why? Do we need another 47 years of ‘Politics of Development’ again?

Don’t worry, I have plenty of the so called ‘heritage longhouse’ in my next articles. Sometime I think it better to be poor but honest than to be a lying fool.
Like the elders used to say:
1) “People who do not get along with others are more interested only in themselves; they will disagree with what everyone else knows is right”.
2) “A fool does not care whether he/she understands a thing or not; all he/she wants to do is show how smart he/she is….”

Hello Bloggers and Readers,
“Figure don’t lies, Specialist Instigators like DB should know that”. Those were the words of….
………………………………………….
The picture of this longhouse and those showing potholed roads in Sri Aman recently ALSO DO NOT tell lies.
If DBs are to have taken photograph of your house in Kuching, it also DOES NOT tell lie about your fortune which might have been dubiously accumulated courtesy of LIES you have spread to the Ibans.
Even if this photo had been taken in 1970s, the government then was still the same as today. No harm. The fact is still relatively true that there could be still Ibans dwelling in such a place.
Naturally, people will make comparison between comfort derived from the home of the neglected Ibans and the home of opportunist Ibans.
JJ, you are one of the oppurtunist Ibans keen on spreading lies about the Ibans. Shame on you!
For me, the comfort of the naive Ibans who are always subject to BN exploitation is my main concern.
Therefore, since changes from within the BN has borne no obvious results,we have to try an alternaitve option by changing the getting rid of the present Iban leaders. If you do not want some efforts done towards this line, then prove to us that they have performed what is EXPECTED from them.
The most important of all is to deliver all their own promises.
Cheers…
Kuncitmuncit,
In this aspect,my guess is, we DayakBarus have failed. We are numbed into IN-ACTION by the numerous daily “feast” of exposures of abuses, discrimination, mismanagement, corruptions, oppressions,etc,etc,..of the BN government that flood our PC screens.

DL understand your frustration KM…..DB is truely NATO as u rightly described, NO Action Talk Only. You are most welcome to join DL club who fight for Dayaks cause from within the BN frameworks, with plenty of actions, not just talk days and nights.
WHEN WE LACK OF KNOWLEDGE – GOD
Dear All,
My thought of the day
Since this is holy Sunday, now let us talk a bit about holiness and to remind each of us that GOD presence among us here.
God’s people are destroyed for “Lack of Knowledge”
These next two verses are extreme – and I mean extreme! These two verses are telling us that first, God’s people are literally, and I mean literally, being destroyed for lack of knowledge.
The second verse below says that God’s people can literally go into captivity as a result of not having the right amount of knowledge about something; WHO
WHO could also means:
1) W – Know Who
2) H – Know How
3) O – Know Opportunity
God the Father is giving all of us (human) a major warning with the ways that He has these two verses worded. A perfect example of these two verses in actual operation is the Muslim suicide bombers.
Many of these ‘suicide bombers’ are young kids/youth. They have been brought up being brainwashed by the extremist element of Islam, and they really do think they are going straight to heaven if they are willing to blow themselves up and anyone else they can take with them.
This is a perfect example of these young kids being led into “captivity” as a result of not having the appropriate knowledge to fully understand what they are getting into in the first place.
And then when they actually take their own lives in these ‘suicide bombings’, they are literally being “destroyed” as a result of this lack of knowledge. Instead these kids should to taught to do goodness and to live prosper and propel with good life as given by God. God has given us his holistic words to love one another and live in peace and harmony.
NOTES: I’m not discrediting the teaching of Islam but merely questioning some Muslim extremist who used their ‘self-interest ideology’ to destroy innocent peoples and even their own Muslim brothers too. I personally believe no religion the world would teach us to destroy, hate, discriminate, marginalize, harm and do unjust onto others.
That is why seeking after the knowledge of God is so important with all the crazy and demonic things that are going on in this world.
Having God’s knowledge on certain things, situations, different issues and topics is what can keep you from getting entangled into something that could end up turning deadly on you.
These two verses should be memorized by every Christian. Here they are:
1. “My people are destroyed for lack of knowledge” (Hosea 4:6)
2. “Therefore My people have gone into captivity, because they have no knowledge …” (Isaiah 5:13)
If these two verses are telling us that not having the knowledge of God operating in our lives could literally lead us into getting into some kind of captivity – not to mention the possibility of getting us killed or thrown into the pits of hell when we die – then the reverse is also true – that having the knowledge of God operating in your life can help keep you out of serious trouble, help keep you free and possibly help lengthen the number of days that you can live down here on this earth.
Knowledge and Wisdom are Better than all the Material Things of This World
These next 7 verses are once again making a very radical statement. God is literally telling us that the knowledge and wisdom that we can receive from Him is better and more valuable than all the silver, gold and rubies of this world.
In other words, the knowledge and wisdom that you can receive from God is better than all the material wealth that this world has to offer!
God then goes one step further in this first verse I will list below, and states that knowledge and wisdom is better than anything else you can possibly desire in this life!
Think about how radical this statement really is given the materialistic and money hungry society we live in.
Grab a hold of these 7 verses – especially the first two.
1. “Happy is the man who finds wisdom, and the man who gains understanding; for her proceeds are better than the profits of silver and her gain than fine gold. She is more precious than rubies, and all the things you may desire cannot compare with her. Length of days is in her right hand, in her left hand riches and honor. Her ways are ways of pleasantness, and all her paths are peace. She is a tree of life to those who take hold of her, and happy are all who retain her” (Proverbs 3:13)
2. “How much better it is to get wisdom than gold! And to get understanding is to be chosen rather than silver” (Proverbs 16:16)
3. “There is gold and a multitude of rubies, but the lips of knowledge are a precious jewel” (Proverbs 20:15)
4. “But the excellence of knowledge is that wisdom gives life to those who have it” (Ecclesiastes 7:12)
5. “Understanding is a wellspring of life to him who has it” (Proverbs 16:22)
6. “Through wisdom a house is built, and by understanding it is established; by knowledge the rooms are filled with all precious and pleasant riches” (Proverbs 24:3)
7. “Wisdom strengthens the wise more than ten rulers of that city” (Ecclesiastes 7:19)
Notice in the first verse that God says that “happy” is the man who finds wisdom, and that having knowledge and wisdom will help lengthen the number of days that you might live down here on this earth.
He then says that knowledge will also bring you peace and be a tree of life to you and your life.
This “tree of life” is what stimulates those who seek after knowledge. There is nothing more challenging, more rewarding and more thrilling than seeking after the knowledge of God on a particular subject or issue that you may really be interested in.
And to top all of this off – all of the knowledge and wisdom that you receive from God on the different parts of your life down here on earth will all go with you into the next life – which will be heaven.
However, not one ounce of all of the gold, rubies, silver and wealth of this world will go with you the minute you die and cross over.
All of that earthly material wealth will rot and perish as far as you are concerned – because not one ounce, not one penny will go with you to the other side!
That is why God is placing such an extremely high value on the pursuit of His knowledge and wisdom for us in this life.
That is why God is telling us in the above verses that seeking after His knowledge and wisdom in this life will give you true life.
Praise the good Lord and GOD bless us all DB/DL.
Have a bless Sunday!
Well DL,
Evertbody is frustrated. I am frustrated. Everybody has failed and I also have failed.
However I have not failed to see that the Ibans are indeed the victims of unfair policies. Only the DL dudes have seen the success achieved by the Ibans.
So much NATO now is still OK as DBs are here to create awareness of the unacceptable government policies towards us.
Cheers…
Pls show photographs of the houses of DL, JJ & gangs here….
The longhouse’s photos show a lot of mee segera such as sing, plywood, tang nadai ai paip, enjin api, flush toilet,
Dear all honorable DB readers,
My Personal Opinion
HOW TO COUNTER “NATO” MENTALITY?
I refer to this comment: dayaklama on March 21st, 2010 6:20 pm
DB may be seen like NATO (No Action Talk Only) members here because Nothing can be done if we don’t have the awareness, knowledge and plan.
Have you ever thought of the reverse word of ‘NATO’ to ‘OTAN’?
‘OTAN’ here mean “Observe – Think – Act – Navigate” . ‘OTAN’ give you the ability to produce sustainable result and/or better result in something you want to do or being develop.
Now, let me guide you all with this input so DB would not be distracted by misleading “NATO” mentality.
Think before you act
If you are not sure about an action, asked advice, talk it over with someone or here in this DB weblog who will give you objective advice.
If you are in a position where you need to act without thinking it through, stall for some time or just don’t do it. Get into the habit of Stop, Think, Think again, then Act. This rule will keep you from a lot of regrets later.
Close the light for 5 minutes; feel it in the darkness – use ‘OTAN’ when the light is on again.
When you want to walk, don’t walk blindly; work on your first walk then you work on your steps to walk and reach your destination objectively. It’s bad when you walk fast and fail to brake. So, walk objectively forward.
Now let us think along this line:
- When we create awareness, it’s about talking;
- When we talk, we communicate;
- When we communicate, we create idea;
- When we create idea, we produce knowledge;
- When we have knowledge, we produce innovation;
- When we have innovation, we produce creativity;
- When we have creativity, we produce strategy;
- When we have strategy, we produce technique;
- When we have technique, we produce tactic; and
- When we have tactic, we build ‘critical thinking’.
Why “Critical Thinking” very important to us today?
To be able to concentrate for a considerable time is essential to difficult achievement. In both our personal life and career there are many situations that demand of us to thinking critically.
This includes situations such as dealing with a crisis and/or a complaint from the grassroots/subordinates, deciding on how to resolve the “Native” issues and/or how to make “Change WE Must” a reality. The list is certainly not exhaustive.
Unlike creative thinking which expects you to think out of the box literally and sometimes come up with the most ludicrous ideas critical thinking on the other hand involve a measured process of analysis of facts, data and assumptions in order to come to a rational conclusion.
This gives the suggestion that critical thinking is relatively more boring than creative thinking that does not discount for coming up with wild flamboyant concepts and ideas.
However critical thinking does not have to be boring and in fact it might be as interesting if not more than creative thinking if you master the fine art of being able to apply the process of critical thinking.
Critical Thinking find Solution to problems
Fundamentally critical thinking involves the conscientious application of the five (5) stage process; you will notice that you become excellent and solving those problems that may have far reaching consequences as well as making effective decisions that leaves no room for regret later.
Critical solutions need critical thinking. Is our “Native” issues not critical?
Herein are the five (5) stages of “Critical Thinking”:
Stage One: Identify the key issue that needs to be resolved
It is a fact that during meetings and discussions there is a tendency that people get distracted on the key aspects of what they want to resolve.
To be an effective critical thinker you should first start by identifying the key issue in the problem or situation that you need to address and resolve.
It would be great if you could write this down and look at it from time to time so that you are aware that you are not being sidetracked and going on a wild goose chase.
Stage Two: Gather relevant facts and data
Critical thinking is useful in situations like dealing with ‘complaints’ and/or ‘crisis’, or conducting an inquiry into something that has happened and also in situation like planning a political campaign or programs when nothing can be left to chance.
In these situations it is crucial that you gather all the relevant facts (internal/external) and data so that you can work towards a suitable outcome.
Stage Three: Clarify possible assumptions, theories and concepts
It is possible that you may not have all the relevant facts, evidences, exhibits and data. This is especially so if you are engaging is a ‘new project’ or ‘mission’ and there is no past experiences to work with.
Here you need to look at possible assumptions, theories and concepts (PESTLE/SWOT) pertaining to your situation.
This would involve on postulating a worst case and best case scenario and thinking through the process that might be put in place if any of these where to happen. Sometimes this is called deliberate thinking which is very much a sub-category of critical thinking.
Stage Four: Look for Evidence to support your cause of action
Critical thinking most certainly will involve you having to make an informed decision. This then would attract the attention of would be ‘detractors’ (like DL and gangs) who might have their own hidden agenda to attack or criticize your decision or whatever you do.
What you need to do is to have hard evidences/exhibits that support your cause of action and be able to present a strong case in your favour.
Stage Five: Check and keep in view any inconsistencies
There is no such thing as a perfect decision or a perfect solution to a critical problem.
What you may have achieved is to come up with an effective solution that may or may not solve a major portion of the problem or a pragmatic decision that deals with the situation at hand.
It is therefore important to verify and keep in view any inconsistencies that might arise under these circumstances.
Inconsistencies here refer to those issues that may have more than one possible answer or does not necessarily apply to all.
It may not be possible for you to resolve these inconsistencies at the current time but it would be prudent to keep this in mind so that you may work on it at a later time to try to resolve it if this would be possible at all.
Conclusion
Start applying these 5 stage process, it will pave the way for you to become an effective critical thinker and thus making you an asset in your venture and/or your organization as well as allowing you to develop an unbiased view of life.
When we are too comfortable with our situation, we lack of creativeness and critical thinking. When we have all the above, our next step is to act.
Lastly,
Think Before You Act – Give PR the Votes Then We Will Act Accordingly!

Not granting a publication permit is against freedom of press and expression. This is the worst the bn gormen can do to suppress opposition.
To Dayaklama and those sewaktu dengannya;
Such dilapidated longhouses still exist in many areas of Sarawak, due to many factors, of course.
To me, BN/ Dayaklama is to be blamed most since they are the so-called FLAG BEARER of Dayaks, esp the Ibans.
If leadership at longhouse level is non-existent, Dayaklama should provide ‘zincs’ and building materials to them. But, where are building materials you have been shouting about.
I don’t care be it ‘mee segera’ or ‘sodome’, that is the least BN could do. I guess Dayaklama have misappropriated all the money.

It’s very difficult to live in that place. I visited one just a couple of year back. Half-way I wanted to ease myself, the longhouse people pointed to a big tree nearby. To do the “big” business, I have to wait for night fall and walked down to the river.
I agree with some of your observations:
1. Zinc roof for some of the pintus. The blue colour suggests it’s one of the “spandeck.” so this house cannot be from pre-independent days.
2, Path on the right is cemented. That must be a form of “pemansang.”
3. It’s true, the clothes set to dry in the sun definitely comes from the present era.
Pengajar Nanga Budu, read carefully the issues in this blog. The main issue is marginalisation of the Dayaks. This is proven by:
1. Education. How could you miss that if you are a pengajar?
2. Employment in the civil service: Exactly you are right – Dayaks, especially Ibans are all over W Malaysia. This blog has mentioned that 100,000 Dayaks are all over Malaya with 30,000 Ibans in Johore alone. On the other hand, 85% civil service in Sarawak are “them.”
That said, you must look at the other side. The people represented by Dayak Lama are living in huge houses, driving Royce and Merc, fine. Don’t envy them, but as I am indignant when they are jumping around telling people all about “pemansang” and “model” state when Sarawakians are still living in depilated homes such as this.
This is where politics, to me, is useless. Politics tells you to proclaim “white” when it’s “black.” When people don’t know their left from the right hand, and you and I who have eyes but choose to remain silent, that, in my inner self, is the greatest crime (sin) (Jonah 4:11). When we choose to remain silent at injustice, it’s back to the crimes of the Nazis against the Jews in second world war. It’s usually the innocent that suffers.
Pengajar Nanga Budu, you are a “pengajar” and you should lecture me on morality and ethics.
Malaysian Economic Agenda (MEA) – This PR policy agenda would have greater meaning if it include a policy statement to address the vast disparity between Sabah/Sarawak and West Malaysia.
Incidentally, the poorest states in Malaysia are oil-producing states of Sabah, Sarawak, Kelantan and Trengganu. So if for example, the MEA were to link the proposed oil royalty to be increased to 20%, against the current 5% – and articulate this proposal in the context of addressing economic and development status disparity between:
- West/East Malaysia
- West/East coast states
Then the MEA, in addition to its broad attempt to address the middle and lower class Malaysians from all race and ethnics, would have addressed the persistent imbalance by staking out visible policy steps to reduce it.
As a Sarawakian, I would most certainly welcome an economic policy that would acknowledge very clearly that the West/East Malaysia disparity redux is unacceptable for the future well being of the country, and that there must be a policy agenda – raw and real, and convertible into legislative pieces in Parliment. At the very least there has to a budget formula that guarantees preferential allocation of resources towards reducing the disparity.
At its most personal level, I would certainly think differently of PR if it can differentiate itself from UMNO-led BN, and drop the false pretense of Peninsula/East Malaysi Bumi brotherhood of UMNO, and begin to initiate an ideological shift in West Malaysians politicians mind, away from one that looks at Sarawak and Sabah as a new frontier for crony business dealings (the locals be damned) but to seriously challenge themselves to bring Sabah/Sarawak up to par to the Peninsula. I think the sentiment in Kelantan and Trengganu should be about the same.
As mooted, I think the MEA is not quite complete yet – not the sort of stuff that breaks new ground and therefore is not quite capable of generating “tsunamic” electoral dreams in Sabah/Sarawak.

Of late, I note with interest from several of your postings – the attempt to explain your position from a social activism perspective, and how that position is independent of political parties.
From a social perspective, its interesting to note that PR would attract social activists because as I imagine you would so aptly put it: BN is good at pushing social activist to PR because of BN intolerance of any soul who dare to question its power.
Najib 1Malaysia is trying to win back the position of the BN political parties to champion the under privilege and the various social activism around those group.
But without substantatively changing its “attitude” towards social activists, I doubt 1Malaysia will gain for BN what Najib must surely intended it, in-between the subtext.
So here, I would think that social activists will remain steadfast and unapologetic (as they should be),and won’t fall for the sing and dance routine of 1Malaysia, or any such publicity stunt – regardless of who the political party in government is.
BN is not activist friendly, but how does PR seek to “institutionalise” its relationship with social activist to help solve societies’ problems,as a third force for change outside parliment, that would be interesting to see.If it fail,to sustain good relationship with social activist, after it govern – PR can easily lose its fights for the hearts and minds of the activists.
And in these day and age, everyone worth his salt, is an activist for something or another.
Unggal MT,
I refer to your comment: MERAMAT TAJAK on March 22nd, 2010 10:40 am
I agree with your comment on the MEA subject; that’s PR vision. We should have our own version to support PR to empower our Dayak’s future.
I think we, DB, need to work on our own “DB MEA Framework” here. Maybe you could publish your further thought on this and I will do the same to enhance our thoughts here i.e. exchange of information and idea.
Thank you.
ADVICE TO ALL READERS
TONE DOWN the harsh and dirty words please-please – It bring more negativeness onto us
Please kindly take note; I’ve noticed some unpleasant words/language written here in this blog.
I know some of us here including myself too might get distracted, sometimes annoyed and/or ‘piss-off’ or carry away with some negative and unproductive comments that could possibly or indirectly stir an anger herein this blog/forum.
A single ‘harsh’ or ‘dirty’ word spoken at the time of anger is so poisonous and very hurtful that it makes us forget the hundred lovable conversations within seconds. Try to clam yourself down and if it do hurt you, try to avoid into further conversation and/or play ‘fire-with-fire’.
If the other person use ‘fire’, we use ‘water’ to neutralize it; neutralizer means coach and/or educate the person onto the right track/path or we can just simply ignore it and therefore his/her comment would become irrelevant or useless. The cool we are, the better and wiser we will be i.e. to overcome our crisis and/or backwardness or obstacles in the near future.
For me, words work in a form of action and communication (virtual or physical). Therefore capable and effective words help us influencing Change. Their articulation represents a complete, lived experience. Use your experience(s) and good visual environment to express your positive words. Use positive word to empower our positive attitude and positive attitude will empower our future positively forward.
The basic rule of moving objectively forward:
- Watch your thoughts, for they become words; *Dirty thoughts produce/bring dirty words….
- Watch your words, for they become actions; *Dirty words bring negative actions….
- Watch your actions, for they become habits; *Negative actions bring dirty habits….
- Watch your habits, for they become character; *Dirty habits bring bad character…..
- Watch your character, for it becomes your destiny; *Bad character bring doom to oneself…..
Therefore, please be careful with what you said and/or wording. Cool and calmness is the most effective therapy.
Quote: “The good man brings good things out of the good stored up in his heart, and the evil man brings evil things out of the evil stored up in his heart. For out of the overflow of his heart his mouth speaks.” – Luke 6:45
Remember: If language is as inextricably tied up with consciousness as it seems to be, then the continuing diminishment of our inclination to use it to express in letters the times in which we live could mean that an element of human consciousness itself is on the verge of disappearing.
Try your level best to avoid or not using any dirty and/or unpleasant words or language here. If you talk to a man/woman in a language he/she understands, that goes to his/her head. If you talk to him/her in his/her language, that goes to his/her heart.
Kind words are a creative force, a power that concurs in the building up of all that is good, and energy that showers blessings upon the world.
Thank you for listening and May God bless you all.

I hate injustice, MT. And gkm2020, you are right – let’s focus on the issue and not resort to name calling.
NGOs and PM Najib – I see the PM is doing all the right things, said the right words and tried to reach out to the right people. At different time and place, he could be a v. successful PM.
Having said that, what has he achieved? A HUGE (cap) stumbling block called UMNO. And UMNO in Malaya means Dayak Lama in Sarawak. Najib is sincere in Sarawak – that’s why I won’t say negative things about his visits to Sarawak. But he is being fed with wrong information by Dayak Lama. That is the stumbling block.
(Dayak Lama is referred to as an institution, not the person who has contributed constructively to this bog).
The MEA, NEM or the old NEP, ahhh these are “containers.” The contents or the isi would still be the same, corruption and self interest. NEP is the best example and the beneficiaries of NEP are not the poor.
For this reason, I agree with Dr John – we need a revamp. CHANGE. (Anyone read Andrew Sheng’s column about the Monkeys and Bananas on Saturday Star 20 march 2010? Basically – he asked this: can you trust a monkey to look after bananas?)
ES,
To put it bluntly, had it not because of DB close association and support for opposition PKR/PR, Najib is dead serious in wanting to help the Dayaks.
So DB, isn’t it time for you people to rethink or review DB’s support for DSAI and the party leadership. Please DB …..be a partner to Najib’s and initiate changes within BN frameworks.
DL can help making arrangement for you to discuss Dayaks issues with PM,CM and Paramount chief. If not the younger Dayaks generation will curse you for becoming a stumbling block to Dayaks progress and unity.DB should just sacrifice the Kemena seat and instead look at a bigger picture.

The river on which residents of Rumah Unggat`s lonhgouse at Sungai Buloh in Selangau, Sibu is no longer safe as it is full of leeches.
The river is mainly used by the longhouse dwellers for daily consumption, bathing and washing.
The longhouse dwellers have to wear protective clothing to avoid being attacked by leeches, the blood suckers.
This is one of thousands of longhouses in Sarawak which has no basic amenities.
But Dayaklama and his group claimed that Sarawak has developed tremendously and not a single race in Sarawak would be left of the politics of development. Politik pemansang ba sebayan jangka aku!!
We have “Negaraku” as our national anthem and we should be proud that we have our own identity and being govern by our own peoples. Now let us all read this article on BTN issue:
“BTN TAUGHT ME THE CHINESE ARE THE JEWS OF ASIA”
Written By Asrul Hadi Abdullah Sani
KUALA LUMPUR, Nov 27 — I am one of the privileged few to have attended a local public university and learned the meaning of hate, thanks to the ever popular Biro Tata Negara.
All undergraduates were forced to attend this programme or else they would not be eligible for graduation.
The BTN under the Prime Minister’s Department brought in “intellectual” speakers who were supposed to enlighten the students about the meaning of being a Malaysian but instead it felt more like a communist propaganda camp brainwashing those attending about the importance of “Ketuanan Melayu”.
The camp would usually take place during the weekends. Students would have to register early in the morning and the programme would last the whole day.
The organisers were always on their guard, asking participants to show their student identification cards each time they entered the hall, fearing the presence of outsiders.
In the hall, students were asked to turn off their mobile phones.
During the lectures, questions were planted among the audience and the students were advised not to ask any other questions.
One speaker began with the history of Malaysia and how much the country had gone through, always emphasising the May 13 riots.
He stressed the point of how much the Malays had sacrificed and how the community should be united especially from outside threat — the Chinese community.
He said that the Chinese community were “the Jews of Asia” and were just itching to take over when Malays were disunited and broken.
The speaker also revealed a greater Chinese conspiracy where the Chinese Malaysians were working together with Singapore to topple the Malay government.
“Do you want to become like the Malays in Singapore?” he asked.
He also went so far as to criticise Malay girls for dating boys from other races.
He added that they should not be cheap and embarrass their families.
Once, a student told the speaker that as Muslims, we should also respect other races who are also Muslims.
“All Muslims are Malays so it does not matter if they are Chinese or Indians. If they are Muslims then they are Malays,” the speaker replied.
This is why I was relieved when I learned that the Selangor government had moved to ban its civil servants, employees of state subsidiaries and students at state-owned education institutions from attending any BTN courses with immediate effect.
However I believe racism in varsities does not end at BTN because classrooms have also become victims of ignorant scholars.
My friend was verbally abused during his sociology class when he did not agree with the points made by his lecturer.
“You must be DKK,” the lecturer told him.
“What is DKK?” he asked.
“You must be darah keturunan keling (descendants of Indians),” the lecturer said, pointing to his dark skin.
My Saudi friend was also shocked by the comments made by his lecturer in his Islamic civilisation class.
“We should save our Orang Asli from the Chinese people. They are like the Palestinians and the Chinese are Israel. We must fight the Jews,” the lecturer told his students.
The lecturer even failed one of his students in his oral exam when he quoted a Western scholar in his presentation.
“You should be ashamed of yourselves. You are a Muslim and should only use Islamic scholars,” he scolded the student.
I was personally saddened when my Islamic law lecturer compared Christianity to Head & Shoulder’s 3 in 1 shampoo in referring to the religion’s Holy Trinity.
I feel that racism has been institutionalized in our country and that BTN is only the tip of the iceberg.
Deputy Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin defended BTN yesterday and claimed that it was not racist but is line with the 1 Malaysia concept.
I have to humbly disagree and would like to suggest maybe the ministers should bring their overseas children home and let them have a taste of what BTN is.

Remarks:
BTN is a divisive, racist and seditious indoctrination course which pumps communal poison, incite racial hatred and illwill which are no different from Nazi indoctrination camps.
BTN did was a great disservice to plural Malaysia, Malaysian nation-building, the Merdeka social contract, the Malaysia Agreement, Rukunegara, Vision 2020, Bangsa Malaysia and now 1Malaysia.
Now, I ask you all here who should we believe and who should we vote?
Empelesik Sungai on March 22nd, 2010 12:41 pm
I share the sentiment. Except to add:-
Najib – does have nice sounding social and economic agenda, but substantive change will require demonstration of leadership at grassroots level.
The visit to Iban longhouse was most welcome, however I had wanted to see if he would be hands on, on key Dayak issues like NCR. But then his “advice” to resolve the issue amicably sounded a wee bit too hollow and a little disinterested.
And then there was the subsequent zero mention about the subject during the recent PBB convention ….These 2 led me to believe that his visit was more fluff than a genuine interest to affect change in the Dayak condition.
He had the opportunity to make history and change many Dayak views about the Malay-UMNO hegemony, and colonial treatment of Dayak by Malay elites in UMNO, but the visit was like a routine visit to a school’s sport day.
**The verdict on Najib thus far, does not suggest he would be any different than his predecessor.
Of Bananas and Monkeys – its a society thing, so only the relentless pursuit to strengthen democratic institutions and civil societies would “assist” the monkeys to safeguard the bananas.
On this count, DAP would score well in its liberal democratic outlook, likewise PAS in its equivalent Islamic ideas about governance. PKR – continue to try but does often stumble to give voice to internal dissenting ideas.
The subtext in the referred article would suggest the voters get the government they deserve but in the same vein, precisely because we acknowledge the frailty of man, hence the need to strengthen institution, transparent governance and civil societies to provide much-needed check-and-balance in the “monkeys infested”, apex of power.
Of Change – PR got 55% of the popular vote in the last GE but it is not clear if was more to spite BN, than it was for genuine democratic change.
At any rate, in potentially major “Change” in economic policies, the PR’s MEA will be studied alongside the New Economic Model – and people will certainly argue about the merits of each according to their personal philosophy.
For our Dayak community, I think the sensible game plan is to try to be counted and be factored into the formulation. If PR would show itself to have factored the Dayak into the formulation of the MEA, that would speak to me in the clearest of term yet.
As for the New Economic Model, I think the State Dayak BN leadership would only be too happy to get whatever UMNO would carve out for the Bumiputera, vav the non-Bumiputera : it would be a pleasant change for the better if the opposite is true.
WHO IS FOR DAYAKS?
NOTHING IS FOR DAYAKS?
WHAT IS LEFT FOR DAYAKS?
Now, let us read this article:
MPM WANTS NEW ECONOMIC MODEL TO PROTECT MALAY INTERESTS
By Asrul Hadi Abdullah Sani
KUALA LUMPUR, March 7 — The Malay Consultative Council (MPM) has declared that the New Economic Model (NEM) proposed by the Najib administration must protect Malay interests as prescribed by Article 153 of the Federal Constitution.
MPM spokesman Datuk Ibrahim Ali explained today that the NEM must be in line with Article 153 which has 10 parts, with the first part making it incumbent for the Yang di-Pertuan Agong to safeguard the special position of the Malays and natives of Sabah and Sarawak.
“I hope the Prime Minister will not rush in announcing the New Economic Model, and postpone it so that it would not create any controversy especially regarding the interests of the Malay race and Bumiputeras,” the Perkasa chief said after a roundtable discussion organised by the MPM.
“The decision reached was that in the new economic model must be in the framework of Article 153 of the Constitution. The policies that do not practise affirmative action will only bring hardship to the majority, and that is the Malay race and Bumiputeras.
“This is because in a democratic system, the majority is the national agenda. It is not only the agenda of the Malay race and Bumiputeras but in a country the majority has a problem that needs to be solved then it becomes the national agenda,” he added.
Ibrahim said the government must make development of the Malay economy as one of the National Key Results Areas (NKRA).
“The government can formulate any policies in terms of competitiveness and globalisation but we must be in the framework in the constitution. We stray away from this is crime. The policy of affirmative action to protect the Malay community must be continued in the New Economic Model so the wealth is distributed equitably,” said the independent Pasir Mas MP.
Ibrahim added that equitable distribution of wealth was important for social harmony.
“The New Economic Model must concentrate on wealth distribution because if there is no wealth distribution then the country is not safe from political stability in the future. The government has the right to perform social intervention to ensure that there is national unity and economic equitability. This is important so that the country’s economy is free from monopoly and exploitation which may cause a fracture between the different races,” he said.
He said the NEP will not stall the country’s economy but instead spur its growth.
“We are against the notion that ethnic-based policies hinder foreign direct investment. This is not true because our economic growth sustained when NEP was in place. Not only did we have sustained economic growth but we also had a high foreign direct investment during that time. We reject this school of thought. We are of the opinion that there is less foreign direct investment now because of the dip in the international market and the perception of corruption in the country,” he added.
The MPM, an umbrella organisation for nearly 80 Malay groups, also slammed Tan Sri Francis Yeoh’s proposal for a brutal economy.
“They talk about brutal competition but many of them receive subsidy and monopoly from the government,” he said.
The YTL Group managing director had said that there is a need for a brutal economy for the country’s business environment to prosper and Malaysia could no longer have a “little brother” mentality where businesses are protected by the government.

2) Who should we trust?

To put it bluntly, had it not because of DB close association and support for opposition PKR/PR, Najib is dead serious in wanting to help the Dayaks.- BY DL
If DL inform PM the right info, he will sure can help but only ‘mee segera’ and multi-billions projects are discussed I guess.
Malaya could help Sarawak & Sabah long before DB comes into being.
WHO IS FOR DAYAKS? NOTHING IS FOR DAYAKS? WHAT IS LEFT FOR DAYAKS?- by gmk2020
I guess SDNU.
Btw, I just passed by a Chinese Association’s notice, it is pasted there a memo from its umbrella organization about RM1.5 million grant for ‘green technology’ for which companies and users can apply for.
It seems that the Chinese Associations are really helping their members to progress especially in business whereas we the Dayaks are stuck at uniting the disunited Dayaks.

Dlama, club to fight for Dayaks. Don’t you realize that your club have been fighting for Dayaks for the past 47 yrs, but sorry to say we are very bad backward!!!!??
So, what? To me i really don’t see any future to be with your club, because 1+1 = 2!!

Dlama, Najib serious to help Dayaks? There a questions mark. Najib only serious to help Iban Dayaks YBs to win the next G. Election, that all. It’s is better for you to ask yourself, where is Najib for the past 47 yrs??

Appreciate your comments of March 22nd, 2010 12:00 pm. And I had also anticipated the Malay overt pressure on NEM as advanced by Ibrahim Ali in MPM and I would think, would also be advanced by PERKASA – in your post of March 22nd, 2010 6:29 pm.
So for Sarawakian and Sabahan Indigenous People, the choice is whether to continue to believe the MPM, that the Malay majority within the “gagasan Bumiputera” will provide trickle down benefits for them, or to trust the rational approach of MEA to provide economic justice but without the benefit of “bumiputera” appendage.
After 47 years of increasing disparity between Peninsular and Sabah/Sarawak, I tend *not* to believe in the Bumiputera politics of UMNO. If there had been true “gagasan Bumiputera” kinship, Sabah/Sarawak would have been given greater attention to bring the state towards parity with Peninsular. That would be the rational thing to do – and would make soico-economic sense, without having to invoke Constitutional provisions. Indeed, if there had been genuine sense of BP kinship, umemployed Dayaks would have been given preferential access to civil service position in the state; NCR land would be surveyed and issue title to avoid the Dayaks from being exploited for cheap lands etc etc. But no, Bumiputera has been often hijacked to advance the Peninsular Malays politica cause viz the Chinese and Indians.
That said, anyone would be stupid to jump straight from NEM into the MEA cheerleading.
MEA has to account for the Dayaks, and indeed the rest of Sabahan and Sarawakian, in the way that NEM would *not* give way at the expense of the Peninsular Malays. The MEA will have to assure the Indigenous People that they are not mere political pawns of the Peninsular Malays. The best way to start is to chart a course towards socio-economic parity using legislation and public policy – not using slogans.
We, the people of Sarawak and Sabah – would be served well to demand an economic policy headline with a clear agenda to implement socio-economic parity (viz Peninsular) roadmap for Sabah/Sarawak.
I look forward to hearing your thoughts on this post.

My recent visit to Najib blog or so called as 1Malaysia page was indeed a very sad to see those comment made by Sarawakian over there.
In one of the topic post regarding on najib visit to iban longhouse in Sarawak which is at Saratok, Lachau, and Kanowit. Most people of Sarawak are seem praise him as a descendant of heaven send to their respective longhouse folks. Some are say that she/he was so lucky after successfully have a handshake with najib and so much irritating comment to my ears. Maybe it is just me who feel ashamed of myself for being in this land of injustice or it is something wrong with me who do not feel proud that najib is coming over to pay a visit to our longhouse. So, if anybody who is feel free and had a pleasure time just drop by at 1Malaysia and kindly drop your counter comment regarding on the previous comment made by all this blind folks who doesn’t see and seem to praise najib like najib is a god. Never be in their thinking that najib visit is indeed a sign of something, a sign of desperation by someone who called himself a politician. A nearly falling politician, which in turn Sarawak and Sabah is still keep his in power. Same as inside najib facebook the similar comment made by fellow Sarawakian telling that they are proud of najib and his administration, proud of his 1malaysia concept and praise him like hell. This comment is indeed a very disturbing of its kind as it show us that najib and umno has successfully in their mission to plant a seed of ketuanan melayu inside our Sarawak and dayak generation. Now the spoilt generation think that najib is a god, similar in the to the china and the rest of the ancient time where they think that their emperor are descendant of heaven.
So as DB, what is our role in order for us to create a new mind set that would reverse such thinking in our spoilt generation?
Najib`s blog or 1Malaysia, selective postings. No prints for negative postings, accommodating only postings that praise and `budek` him. 1Malaysia budek!!

Dear honorable DB readers,
I refer to this comment: Reserved Player on March 23rd, 2010 1:15 am & Balau on March 23rd, 2010 7:49 am
MY PERSONAL WORDS OF ADVICE:
MAINTAIN THE MOMENTUM & MORAL OUTSTANDING
Walking onto the right path
If you’re walking down the right path and you’re willing to keep walking, eventually you’ll make progress. In the end, that’s what this election is ALL about. Do we participate in a politics of cynicism or a politics of hope?
Taking out the bad comments but maintaining the good ones is flattering
It’s not surprising, Well, you know, when people say good stuff about you or to other person, it’s either appreciation or flattering. But does it mean anything to you?
It’s not really real to me; there’s no reality to it. Flattering words are not those which we hope for but those which good work that you can fulfill.
Change do not start in the native rural areas, Change start at “Petrajaya”
It’s time to fundamentally Change the way that we do business in “Petrajaya”.
To help build a new foundation for the 21st century, we need to reform our government so that it is more efficient, more transparent, more accountable, more approachable and more creative.
That will demand new thinking and a new sense of responsibility for every ringgit that is spent.
Are we native patriots?
There are patriots who opposed the development of the NCR lands and there are patriots who supported the NCR lands development.
We are one people, we are Dayaks, all of us pledging allegiance to the moon and stars and worship the same God, all of us defending the “Native Rights”.
Leadership is about giving hope to others so they can lead to success
Leadership is not just about solving problems but having the capacity to translate vision into reality.
Leadership is a matter of having people look at you and gain confidence, seeing how you react and act on your words. If you’re in control, they’re in control.
All of the great leaders have had one characteristic in common: it was the willingness to confront unequivocally the major anxiety of their people in their time.
This, and not much else, is the essence of leadership. Be a leadership designer of your tomorrow!
Leadership has guts and will
Leadership is getting people to believe in you. If you tell them you’re ready to play as tough as you’re able to, you’d better go out there and do it. Future is make but created by leaders who have guts and will!
Seek God guidance and protection in defending your “Native Rights”
We do not worship corrupt politicians; we worship GOD to show us the right path. In this GE, our mission is to Win our “Native Rights”; returned our Native Customary Land Rights, Native Court Rights, Native Cultural Right, Native Property & Pattern Rights, Native Educational & Service Rights, Native NGOs Freedom Rights, Native Equitable Rights, Native Economic Rights and the general Indigenous Peoples rights. Do to justice is to vote for your right!
Our votes are more than him
We all have potential to Win this General Election; One Najib or Taib or Jabu is just One Vote but the votes of the majority rakyat will Win the General Election. Translate our language to a reality vote; to restore right is to ensure your V – voice; O – opinion; T – Trust; E – expression (V.O.T.E.) regain an upright position. Don’t sell your V.O.T.E. to others it’s yours!
Change to positive mindset, we Change our world
We need to steer clear of this poverty of ambition, where the Dayaks all want their Native Customary Land Rights back to them, to be at par with others, to see richer Changes come to their doorstep but don’t want to work hard to accomplish these things. Everyone should try to realize their full potential!
Make our Vision a reality; we need to do virtual crashing reality to feel our future
Our vision will remain a vision; we all need to work on our future. The success of our future will remain virtual if we don’t academically work hard toward it. We need to interact and bridge our vision and the work together to see our reality.
Don’t let regret to come to you, it’s you that need to shape your own future and the shape of your next generation. Vision reality is the shape of our future!
Conclusion
To meet the expectations of the majority of our people, and to open up new vistas of politics, economic, social, technology and law opportunity, and environmental conscious so that the aspirations of our people can stand a fair chance of being fulfilled in a lifetime, there must be a truly committed leadership in building our Dayak integrity, capacity, independency and capability.
Lastly, it’s not about him/her or you/me it’s about us. We need somebody who’s got the heart, the empathy, to recognize what it’s like to be a Dayak, the empathy to understand what it’s like to be poor or oppressed or discriminated or marginalized or sidelined and that’s the criterion by which we’ll be selecting my candidates in this coming General Election.
Stop becoming a passenger be the driver – Don’t be a sleeping partner be the developer!
You’re NOT native if you vote for BN:

What a simplistic question you post here ‘if Dr. John become the Chief Minister’?
PLEASE DON’T COMPARE WITH TO-DAYS POLITICS OR POLITICIANS.
Now, let me give you with some basic input when ones hold a Chief Minister portfolio herein below:
It shall be the duty of the Chief Minister of each State-
(a) To communicate to the Governor of the State all decisions of the Council of Ministers relating to the administration of the affairs of the State and proposals for legislation;
(b) To furnish such information relating to the administration of the affairs of the State and proposals for legislation as the Governor may call for; and
(c) If the Governor so requires, to submit for the consideration of the Council of Ministers any matter on which a decision has been taken by a Minister.
Constitutional responsibility of the Chief-minister is to develop the State from A to Z progressively and objectively forward.
NOTES: It’s understandable each leader has his/her own principles and motto for their ministration vision. Just like Ex-PM Mahathir “Malaysia Boleh & Vision 2020″; PM Najib Razak “Glokal & 1Malaysia”; CM Taib – “I’m the Government & CMS” and DCM Jabu – “YDK Model & I’m the Paramount Chief”….
He should takecare for peace and security of the State; health of the people; eradicate illiteracy/poverty, provide necessary basic humanitarian programs for the state; promote, stimulate and develop all relevant economic development of the state; and what he was vested with the executive powers.
He must plan for the future of the peoples of his State. He is the leader of his council of Ministers.
He is to safeguard the government position bifurcating the departments and appointing as many as ministers to help him develop the state.
Remember; He does not own the government but a trustee for the rakyat to administer and empower the government policies for the rakyat and meeting the sole purpose for the state.
Now for your main and important question, he must be a Sarawak/Malaysia citizen. He should be a major i.e., he should be more than 18 years old. He should not be a bankrupt. He should have a sane person.
Others you may refer to the State Constitution.
If he is a Dayak Chief Minister other than the basic duties and/or primary responsibilities as provided by the charter-of-duty in the State Constitution, he is the “Chief Executive Officer” for Bansa Dayak and he Must discharge his commitment well, fulfill his manifesto at his best effort and enforce the “Dayak Change Initiatives” as dream by DB members herein in this blog.
Lastly, he must lead the State with these five (5) basic leadership principles:
1) Grow Well
2) Live Well
3) Lead Well
4) Serve Well
5) Finish Well
Cheers!

Some additional reading additional to BTN:
BTN – Between true education and indoctrination
By Azly Rahman
I agree we must give credit to those working hard to “improve the psychological well-being of the Malays” and for that matter for any race to improve its mental wellness.
This is important. This is a noble act. The question is: in doing so, do we want to plant the seeds of cooperation and trust – or racial discrimination and deep hatred? Herein lies the difference between indoctrination and education.
Herein lies what the work of Malaysia’s Biro Tata Negara is about.
These days, the idea of Ketuanan Melayu is going bankrupt, sinking with the bahtera merdeka. It works only for Malay robber barons who wish to plunder the nation by silencing the masses and using the ideological state apparatuses at their disposal.
In the case of the BTN it is the work of controlling the minds of the youth. The work of BTN should be stopped and should not be allowed any more in our educational institutions. It is time our universities especially are spared of counter-educational activities, especially when they yearned to be free from the shackles of domination.
Look at what has happened and what is still happening to our institutions with the University and University Colleges Act and the Akujanji Pledge. Over decades, many millions of Malays and non-Malays have not been getting the right information on our nation’s history, political-economy, and race relations.
History that is being shoved to us or filter-funneled down the labyrinth of our consciousness is one that is already packaged, biased, and propagandized by our historians that became text-books writers.
History need not be “Malay-centric”
Special rights for all Malaysians should be the goal of distributive and regulative justice of this nation, not the “special rights of a few Malays”.
History must be presented as the history of the marginalized, the oppressed, and the dispossessed – of all races. We toil for this nation, as the humanist Paramoedya Ananta Toer would say, by virtue of our existence as “anak semua bangsa … di bumi manusia”.
Malaysia is a land of immigrants. In this regard we can learn from the former British colony called America. Whatever the shortcomings may be, America is a land of immigrants and still evolving. Even a Black man or a woman can become president.
This is what America conceives itself to be and this is what Malaysian can learn from. Can a non-Malay become a Prime Minster if he/she is the most ethical of all politicians in the country?
No one particular race should stake claim to Malaysia. That is an idea from the old school of thought, fast being abandoned. Each citizen is born, bred, and brought to school to become a good law-abiding and productive Malaysian citizen is accorded the fullest rights and privileges and will carry his/her responsibility as a good citizen.
That is what “surrendering one’s natural rights to the State” means. One must read Rousseau, Locke, Voltaire, and Jefferson to understand this philosophy. A bad government will not honor this – and will fall, or will sink like the bahtera merdeka.
The history of civilizations provides enough examples of devastation and genocide as a consequence of violent claims to the right of this or that land based upon some idea of “imagined communities.” We must teach our children to make history – a history of peace amongst nations.
This must be made into a new school of thought: of “new Bumiputeraism” that encompasses all and do not alienate any – because life is too brief for each generation to fight over greed. The eleventh hour of human existence and our emergence in this world has brought about destruction as a consequence of our inability to mediate differences based on race, color, creed, class, and national origin.
Each ethnic group thinks that it is more socially-dominant than the other. Each does not know the basis of its “self”. Each failed to realize its own DNA-make up or gene map. Life is an existential state of beingness, so must history be conceived as such.
Nationalism can evolve into a dangerous concept- that was what happened to Europe at the brink of the two World Wars. It happened in the former Yugoslavia, Rwanda, and Indonesia when Suharto fell.
I argue that we must live evolvingly in the “historical presence of historical constructions”. The past and the future is in the present.
Back to BTN
Courses devoid of critical treatment and sensibility and ones that retard student thinking – such as “Kenegaraan” – in our universities are designed to tell our mind to live in an imagined past.
BTN is playing this dangerous game of blind nationalism still passing down packaged information that do not take into consideration the complexities of globalization and the promise of multiculturalism. We need to offer courses such as Multiethnic Malaysia that will have students aspire to think like multiculturalists and help this nation evolve better.
The ministry of education higher education combined has hundreds of experts – many overseas trained and have tasted the “spirit of multiculturalism” and the “beauty of intellectual freedom” in their classrooms abroad – who ought to have engineered a paradigm shift to help dismantle indoctrination agencies such as Biro Tata Negara.
But where are the voices in the wilderness of our public universities – those who should be speaking up against ‘Ketuanan Melayu or Ketuanan this or that race’? Why are many of these experts, instead of fighting for radical changes to affect radical-peaceful structural changes, are making big decisions to further advance the cause of racism?
One dimensional thinking prevails – the thinking that does not allow diversity of ideas and failed to develop cross-cultural perspectives. Ideas move nations but indoctrinations remove intelligence. Political masters – however corrupt to the core they are – dictates the work of our academicians.
Whoever writes history and turn that into say, BTN propaganda, controls the future (or at least they think they do). We must question what is taught during the sessions or during any history lesson; fundamentally:
* Whose history are we studying?
* Is it meaningful to me?
* Who wrote this history? Why? Who benefits?
* Who gets included and excluded in this history textbooks?
* Who’s the hero – who’s the villain?
What I want to see is a stop to the systematic and ongoing stupefaction of the Malays and the non-Malays and to let them be free from being run-down emotionally by boot camp facilitators who make a living humiliating people.
We have a new generation of best and brightest Malaysians to educate. As an educator I have worked with thousands of them. These are extremely creative individuals who enjoy being challenged at the most respectable and intellectual levels – not through indoctrination methods such as those used in BTN camps.
They want to be fed with more questions and not be shoved with BTN-type of answers. We cannot afford to turn term them into docile beings while at the same time we holler the slogan “human capital” or modal insan the world over. It will be a “modularly insane” human condition if we continue to capitalize on human docility.
The Biro Tata Negara as an indoctrinating institution was conceived by “intellectuals” who themselves are trapped in their own cocoon or glass coconut shell of “wrongly-defined” Malay-ness and in a paradigm that teaches a poor understanding of Malaysian history. These intellectuals are running around in our public universities promoting a more sophisticated and pseudo-intellectual version of racism.
Inciting racial sentiments in classroom and boot camps is big business nowadays – profits made in the name of patriotism. But who’s monitoring the trainers? Education is not about insulting one’s intelligence and instilling fear in our children.
This is what the creators of BTN need to learn. In short, the indoctrinators need a good education on how not to indoctrinate.
“Melayu ‘kan hilang di nusantara …” if we allow the dumbing down of Malaysians to continue.
Progressive parliamentarians must discuss this serious matter concerning the organization’s deliberate attempt to promote disunity and to further fertilize the seeds of racism, at a time when we need to come together as Malaysians in order to face humanity’s greater problem such as the food, oil, and water crisis that will plague us as human beings – at a time when we must focus on constructing a new republic of virtue that will be founded on transcultural ethics, responsive and reflective politics, and a social-democratic-based economic system that do not tempt and feed human greed of the things they do not need.
Our Asian despotic brand of capitalism continues to destroy the very foundation of our existence and our moral fibre. It is greed – big time – that brought down the National Front.
Through the work of the Rakyat, Divine intervention helped speed up the process of removal of Greed disguised as political parties in power. That’s the metaphysical interpretation of March 8, 2008.
We are not running Hitler Youth camps in Malaysia. We must not even come close to setting up one.
BTN and Indoctrination
Note:
I have a Chinese friend who say he will vote for DAP during coming election, the consequences is he get failed for his BTN courses. The next time when he attend the BTN course he pretend that he will vote for be end just in order to get pass the course. Very sad…
YOU CAN BE EVEN MORE BLUNT, Unggal Dayaklama,
You can be as blunt as you like about DBs but kindly put a bit of senses in your thinking. You seem to always blame us for the BN government’s failure in providing development progress to the rakyat.
You are quick to divert the attention of the folks to cover your weaknesses. Instead you choose an easy way out by putting the blame on DBs.
So far, we feel that you have failed in your effort to neutralize us. In fact, you have done more damages to yourself and YDK rather than putting us off.
1. Close association with the Opposition parties. DBs have the need to channel their thoughts and opinions through some means in order to get our message across. Our target group is the easily gullible illiterate Ibans who have unknowingly been exploited by your people for self- gain.
All this while, your people have the privileges to use the government linked mainstream media to fool the people in the interior. Over the years, we could see that when approached by the rakyat to voice out issues of utmost importance to the Ibans, our Iban leaders would just laugh it off.
Our political leaders seem prefer to remain silent so as not to enrage the boss, CM Taib. Perhaps we need to recall an incident whereby Chong C J had been told off by JJM during a Session not too long ago.
Therefore, where should we channel our opinions if not looking at the ever listening ears? This has inevitably resulted in our perceived close association the Opposition party.
2. Still not time for DBs to review their support. We think it is not timely for DBs to review our support yet. We have not achieved something concrete yet in our effort to create awareness among the Ibans of our glaring misfortune.
Our work has only just started. To stop it now would mean a premature termination of our fight four our rights.
3. Changes from within BN do not work for the Ibans. DBs would certainly thank those changes that could give rise to positive changes to the Ibans.
We could not deny that the Sarawak government has indeed initiated changes within BN framework to bring the Ibans toward a better socio-economic standing. So far, these changes have only benefited a small group of well to do Ibans.
They have not really reached out the needy in the interior. On the contrary, the lands in which the poor Ibans used to live in, have been systematically confiscated through a series of amendments to our State Land Codes.
Hence, in this context, changes within the BN framework actually do not work for the Ibans. They have made them even poorer.
4. Just proceed to arrange the meeting with PM. Nobody can stop you from arranging an appointment to meet the PM if you wish, particularly when you can discuss the Dayak Iban issues. We would prefer you meet and discuss them first before asking us to review our support.
This is in line “People first, Performance Now” rhetoric so often in the air. However, kindly do not tell lies. Iban Politicians are keen on apple-polishing, having tendency to utter all goodness on the ground while forgetting that not to rakyat reap the benefits of development.
You are most welcome to make some in depth studies on our issues for presentation to our beloved PM. It must be a pleasure if our PM can consider the truthfulness in facts and figured presented by numerous Iban groups.
Again, all too often, our Iban Ybs only seem to care in denying whatever issues highlighted by our own Ibans. Worst still, some prefer to come up with sarcastic remarks and at the same time labeling us as instigators.
5. Younger Generation Ibans are bound to blame the Iban Leaders. Unggal Dayaklama, it is quite impossible for you to avoid the blame of our younger Iban generation. Our leaders have started the mess.
They have not! You try to hide this mess but now it has become so much for you to hide. The Ibans have been left out in almost all aspects of life. Too many to mention!
6. DBs are not a stumbling block. Our own Iban leaders are the stumbling block. To us, they have minimal interests in upholding our rights.
DB blog is only 2 years old whereas Sarawak BN government has ruled the state for 47 years, long enough to lay out basic amenities for her people, particularly the Ibans. Furthermore, Dayakbaru is a just a Dayak platform to discuss primarily Dayak issues. It just does make sense for a 2 year son being scolded for the misdeed of a 47 year father! WTF!
7. Ibans just cannot look at the bigger picture when…. they are endless sidelined by the present government. The Ibans have sacrificed so much land for the government but it still keeps on sacrificing us through its SKIM MUNOH RAKYAT.
Whether you like it or not, CHANGE WE MUST.
Cheers….
Igat Haja Mehom,
Kada enda seduai dek igat jbtop nya mehok tusu bunsu kera, bunsu nyumboh deh!! Nasit seduai nadai ngembar ke sida indu nya. Enti enda pia, seduai dek nyau baka ke besaki enggau jelu keha jelu nyumbuh ga.
This report by John JAMBAN is not transparent as follows:
“According to DPC SALCRA Oil Palm scheme would be getting bigger dividend than anticipated. For example in 2009 alone SALCRA paid out RM37 millions and to-dates dividends totaling RM334 millions has already been paid to some 18,000 NCR land owner participating in SALCRA.”
John Jamban never mention about the period of such dividend paid?
1) After 5 years?
2) After 8 years ?
3) After 10 years?
John Jamban don’t dare to mention!
OK, assuming the above is like below:
RM334 Million already paid to 18,000 land owners
Let say the dividend paid after 8 years like normally Jabu did. Some are even worst; dividend paid by Jabu after 12 years.
Calculation would be like this:
RM334 Million or RM334,000,000.00 divide by 18,000
=RM18,555.56 per land owner in the 8 years
=RM18,555.56 divide by 8 (years)
=RM 2,319.45 per year
=or RM193.29 per month
= or RM6,44 per day (divide by 30 days a month)
I don’t know whether John Jamban can survive with this RM6.44 a day.
In Malaysia, hard core poor (kemiskinan tegar) is those income under RM500.00. (include our Tuai Rumah RM450.00 per month)
Compare to the above what Pakatan Rakyat want to bring for Dayak in Sarawak. True story or incident happening now in Penan Suai Niah, Sarawak.
**After we fight for their rights, they can earn more or less RM1,000.00 per day.
They pulled out of the joint venture program. Of course with legal and proper advise. And they plucked the oil palm themselves in their own land and sell. RM450.00 per ton.
They can collect/pluck oil palm minimum 3 tons per day. That’s means they can earn RM1,350.00 PER DAY. Wow!! what a wonderful income compare to SALCRA program promoted by John Jamban & Co. (plus JABU)
WHICH ONE WOULD YOU CHOOSE:
RM6.44 PER DAY BY SALCRA (JABU)
OR
RM1,350.00 PER DAY BY PAKATAN RAKYAT.
CHANGE WE MUST!! FORGET ABOUT BN.

The biggest problem under the NEP is the disparity among the benefactors of this program.
Yes, it was targeted to Bumiputeras, but the question is; which Bumiputeras are they talking about? Well, I don’t need to answer that question since everyone here knows the answer. Thus, after the implementation of the NEP, the distribution of wealth among the Bumiputeras has two extremes; most people are either too poor or too wealthy, again I don’t need to say who are the wealthy ones. The NEP was a poorly enacted policy resulted in disparities widening within the Bumiputeras itself.
On a side note, I just learned in my Political Economy class that someone whom we thought was noble and respectable, had implemented economic policies that were not viable in order to protect his cronies during the Asian Financial Economic Crisis. It is very interesting to see how objective outsiders viewed our domestic politics.

… I just learned in my Political Economy class that someone whom we thought was noble and respectable, had implemented economic policies that were not viable in order to protect his cronies during the Asian Financial Economic Crisis
……………………………………………
Iban NY,
I hope you have ready answers to the following questions:
1. Who could that someone be?
2. What types of economic policies had been implemented?
3. How the policies had been implemented?
4. Who had been the benefactors?
5. Why weren’t the policies viable?
6. Who were the cronies?
7. How did they protect them?
I really want to know your answers from an Iban viewpoint. TQ.
