Did you try to run online business and failed? Your website makes only a few hundreds of dollars per month? Want to know how to make more? I will teach you how! AdSense Money Maker is the best software on the Internet today that builds Google AdSense ready websites automatically. It has slow building feature, lots of different templates, builds AdSense TOS compatible pages and is completely automated. You must see it!

Iban-New York on March 25th, 2010 3:15 pm

... I just learned in my Political Economy class that someone whom we thought was noble and respectable, had implemented economic policies that were not viable in order to protect his cronies during the Asian Financial Economic Crisis
...................................................

Iban NY,
I hope you have ready answers to the following questions:

1. Who could that someone be?

2. What types of economic policies had been implemented?

3. How the policies had been implemented?

4. Who had been the benefactors?

5. Why weren't the policies viable?

6. Who were the cronies?

7. How did they protect them?

I really want to know your answers from an Iban viewpoint. TQ.

The biggest problem under the NEP is the disparity among the benefactors of this program.

Yes, it was targeted to Bumiputeras, but the question is; which Bumiputeras are they talking about? Well, I don't need to answer that question since everyone here knows the answer. Thus, after the implementation of the NEP, the distribution of wealth among the Bumiputeras has two extremes; most people are either too poor or too wealthy, again I don't need to say who are the wealthy ones. The NEP was a poorly enacted policy resulted in disparities widening within the Bumiputeras itself.

On a side note, I just learned in my Political Economy class that someone whom we thought was noble and respectable, had implemented economic policies that were not viable in order to protect his cronies during the Asian Financial Economic Crisis. It is very interesting to see how objective outsiders viewed our domestic politics.

This report by John JAMBAN is not transparent as follows:

"According to DPC SALCRA Oil Palm scheme would be getting bigger dividend than anticipated. For example in 2009 alone SALCRA paid out RM37 millions and to-dates dividends totaling RM334 millions has already been paid to some 18,000 NCR land owner participating in SALCRA."

John Jamban never mention about the period of such dividend paid?

1) After 5 years?
2) After 8 years ?
3) After 10 years?

John Jamban don't dare to mention!

OK, assuming the above is like below:

RM334 Million already paid to 18,000 land owners

Let say the dividend paid after 8 years like normally Jabu did. Some are even worst; dividend paid by Jabu after 12 years.

Calculation would be like this:

RM334 Million or RM334,000,000.00 divide by 18,000

=RM18,555.56 per land owner in the 8 years
=RM18,555.56 divide by 8 (years)
=RM 2,319.45 per year
=or RM193.29 per month
= or RM6,44 per day (divide by 30 days a month)

I don't know whether John Jamban can survive with this RM6.44 a day.

In Malaysia, hard core poor (kemiskinan tegar) is those income under RM500.00. (include our Tuai Rumah RM450.00 per month)

Compare to the above what Pakatan Rakyat want to bring for Dayak in Sarawak. True story or incident happening now in Penan Suai Niah, Sarawak.

**After we fight for their rights, they can earn more or less RM1,000.00 per day.

They pulled out of the joint venture program. Of course with legal and proper advise. And they plucked the oil palm themselves in their own land and sell. RM450.00 per ton.

They can collect/pluck oil palm minimum 3 tons per day. That's means they can earn RM1,350.00 PER DAY. Wow!! what a wonderful income compare to SALCRA program promoted by John Jamban & Co. (plus JABU)

WHICH ONE WOULD YOU CHOOSE:

RM6.44 PER DAY BY SALCRA (JABU)

OR

RM1,350.00 PER DAY BY PAKATAN RAKYAT.

CHANGE WE MUST!! FORGET ABOUT BN.

3) After 10 years?

John Jamban don’t dare to mention!

I don’t know whether John Jamban can survive with this RM6.44 a day.

That’s means they can earn RM1,350.00 PER DAY. Wow!! what a wonderful income compare to SALCRA program promoted by John Jamban & Co. (plus JABU)

WHICH ONE WOULD YOU CHOOSE:

RM6.44 PER DAY BY SALCRA (JABU)

OR

RM1,350.00 PER DAY BY PAKATAN RAKYAT.

CHANGE WE MUST!! FORGET ABOUT BN.

YOU CAN BE EVEN MORE BLUNT, Unggal Dayaklama,

You can be as blunt as you like about DBs but kindly put a bit of senses in your thinking. You seem to always blame us for the BN government’s failure in providing development progress to the rakyat.

You are quick to divert the attention of the folks to cover your weaknesses. Instead you choose an easy way out by putting the blame on DBs.

So far, we feel that you have failed in your effort to neutralize us. In fact, you have done more damages to yourself and YDK rather than putting us off.

1. Close association with the Opposition parties. DBs have the need to channel their thoughts and opinions through some means in order to get our message across. Our target group is the easily gullible illiterate Ibans who have unknowingly been exploited by your people for self- gain.

All this while, your people have the privileges to use the government linked mainstream media to fool the people in the interior. Over the years, we could see that when approached by the rakyat to voice out issues of utmost importance to the Ibans, our Iban leaders would just laugh it off.

Our political leaders seem prefer to remain silent so as not to enrage the boss, CM Taib. Perhaps we need to recall an incident whereby Chong C J had been told off by JJM during a Session not too long ago.

Therefore, where should we channel our opinions if not looking at the ever listening ears? This has inevitably resulted in our perceived close association the Opposition party.

2. Still not time for DBs to review their support. We think it is not timely for DBs to review our support yet. We have not achieved something concrete yet in our effort to create awareness among the Ibans of our glaring misfortune.

Our work has only just started. To stop it now would mean a premature termination of our fight four our rights.

3. Changes from within BN do not work for the Ibans. DBs would certainly thank those changes that could give rise to positive changes to the Ibans.

We could not deny that the Sarawak government has indeed initiated changes within BN framework to bring the Ibans toward a better socio-economic standing. So far, these changes have only benefited a small group of well to do Ibans.

They have not really reached out the needy in the interior. On the contrary, the lands in which the poor Ibans used to live in, have been systematically confiscated through a series of amendments to our State Land Codes.

Hence, in this context, changes within the BN framework actually do not work for the Ibans. They have made them even poorer.

4. Just proceed to arrange the meeting with PM. Nobody can stop you from arranging an appointment to meet the PM if you wish, particularly when you can discuss the Dayak Iban issues. We would prefer you meet and discuss them first before asking us to review our support.

This is in line “People first, Performance Now” rhetoric so often in the air. However, kindly do not tell lies. Iban Politicians are keen on apple-polishing, having tendency to utter all goodness on the ground while forgetting that not to rakyat reap the benefits of development.

You are most welcome to make some in depth studies on our issues for presentation to our beloved PM. It must be a pleasure if our PM can consider the truthfulness in facts and figured presented by numerous Iban groups.

Again, all too often, our Iban Ybs only seem to care in denying whatever issues highlighted by our own Ibans. Worst still, some prefer to come up with sarcastic remarks and at the same time labeling us as instigators.

5. Younger Generation Ibans are bound to blame the Iban Leaders. Unggal Dayaklama, it is quite impossible for you to avoid the blame of our younger Iban generation. Our leaders have started the mess.

They have not! You try to hide this mess but now it has become so much for you to hide. The Ibans have been left out in almost all aspects of life. Too many to mention!

6. DBs are not a stumbling block. Our own Iban leaders are the stumbling block. To us, they have minimal interests in upholding our rights.

DB blog is only 2 years old whereas Sarawak BN government has ruled the state for 47 years, long enough to lay out basic amenities for her people, particularly the Ibans. Furthermore, Dayakbaru is a just a Dayak platform to discuss primarily Dayak issues. It just does make sense for a 2 year son being scolded for the misdeed of a 47 year father! WTF!

7. Ibans just cannot look at the bigger picture when…. they are endless sidelined by the present government. The Ibans have sacrificed so much land for the government but it still keeps on sacrificing us through its SKIM MUNOH RAKYAT.

Whether you like it or not, CHANGE WE MUST.

Cheers….

Some additional reading additional to BTN:

BTN - Between true education and indoctrination

By Azly Rahman

I agree we must give credit to those working hard to "improve the psychological well-being of the Malays" and for that matter for any race to improve its mental wellness.

This is important. This is a noble act. The question is: in doing so, do we want to plant the seeds of cooperation and trust - or racial discrimination and deep hatred? Herein lies the difference between indoctrination and education.

Herein lies what the work of Malaysia's Biro Tata Negara is about.

These days, the idea of Ketuanan Melayu is going bankrupt, sinking with the bahtera merdeka. It works only for Malay robber barons who wish to plunder the nation by silencing the masses and using the ideological state apparatuses at their disposal.

In the case of the BTN it is the work of controlling the minds of the youth. The work of BTN should be stopped and should not be allowed any more in our educational institutions. It is time our universities especially are spared of counter-educational activities, especially when they yearned to be free from the shackles of domination.

Look at what has happened and what is still happening to our institutions with the University and University Colleges Act and the Akujanji Pledge. Over decades, many millions of Malays and non-Malays have not been getting the right information on our nation's history, political-economy, and race relations.

History that is being shoved to us or filter-funneled down the labyrinth of our consciousness is one that is already packaged, biased, and propagandized by our historians that became text-books writers.
History need not be "Malay-centric"

Special rights for all Malaysians should be the goal of distributive and regulative justice of this nation, not the "special rights of a few Malays".

History must be presented as the history of the marginalized, the oppressed, and the dispossessed - of all races. We toil for this nation, as the humanist Paramoedya Ananta Toer would say, by virtue of our existence as "anak semua bangsa ... di bumi manusia".

Malaysia is a land of immigrants. In this regard we can learn from the former British colony called America. Whatever the shortcomings may be, America is a land of immigrants and still evolving. Even a Black man or a woman can become president.

This is what America conceives itself to be and this is what Malaysian can learn from. Can a non-Malay become a Prime Minster if he/she is the most ethical of all politicians in the country?

No one particular race should stake claim to Malaysia. That is an idea from the old school of thought, fast being abandoned. Each citizen is born, bred, and brought to school to become a good law-abiding and productive Malaysian citizen is accorded the fullest rights and privileges and will carry his/her responsibility as a good citizen.

That is what "surrendering one's natural rights to the State" means. One must read Rousseau, Locke, Voltaire, and Jefferson to understand this philosophy. A bad government will not honor this - and will fall, or will sink like the bahtera merdeka.

The history of civilizations provides enough examples of devastation and genocide as a consequence of violent claims to the right of this or that land based upon some idea of "imagined communities." We must teach our children to make history - a history of peace amongst nations.

This must be made into a new school of thought: of "new Bumiputeraism" that encompasses all and do not alienate any - because life is too brief for each generation to fight over greed. The eleventh hour of human existence and our emergence in this world has brought about destruction as a consequence of our inability to mediate differences based on race, color, creed, class, and national origin.

Each ethnic group thinks that it is more socially-dominant than the other. Each does not know the basis of its "self". Each failed to realize its own DNA-make up or gene map. Life is an existential state of beingness, so must history be conceived as such.

Nationalism can evolve into a dangerous concept- that was what happened to Europe at the brink of the two World Wars. It happened in the former Yugoslavia, Rwanda, and Indonesia when Suharto fell.

I argue that we must live evolvingly in the "historical presence of historical constructions". The past and the future is in the present.

Back to BTN

Courses devoid of critical treatment and sensibility and ones that retard student thinking - such as "Kenegaraan" - in our universities are designed to tell our mind to live in an imagined past.

BTN is playing this dangerous game of blind nationalism still passing down packaged information that do not take into consideration the complexities of globalization and the promise of multiculturalism. We need to offer courses such as Multiethnic Malaysia that will have students aspire to think like multiculturalists and help this nation evolve better.

The ministry of education higher education combined has hundreds of experts - many overseas trained and have tasted the "spirit of multiculturalism" and the "beauty of intellectual freedom" in their classrooms abroad - who ought to have engineered a paradigm shift to help dismantle indoctrination agencies such as Biro Tata Negara.

But where are the voices in the wilderness of our public universities - those who should be speaking up against 'Ketuanan Melayu or Ketuanan this or that race'? Why are many of these experts, instead of fighting for radical changes to affect radical-peaceful structural changes, are making big decisions to further advance the cause of racism?

One dimensional thinking prevails - the thinking that does not allow diversity of ideas and failed to develop cross-cultural perspectives. Ideas move nations but indoctrinations remove intelligence. Political masters - however corrupt to the core they are - dictates the work of our academicians.

Whoever writes history and turn that into say, BTN propaganda, controls the future (or at least they think they do). We must question what is taught during the sessions or during any history lesson; fundamentally:

* Whose history are we studying?

* Is it meaningful to me?

* Who wrote this history? Why? Who benefits?

* Who gets included and excluded in this history textbooks?

* Who's the hero - who's the villain?

What I want to see is a stop to the systematic and ongoing stupefaction of the Malays and the non-Malays and to let them be free from being run-down emotionally by boot camp facilitators who make a living humiliating people.

We have a new generation of best and brightest Malaysians to educate. As an educator I have worked with thousands of them. These are extremely creative individuals who enjoy being challenged at the most respectable and intellectual levels - not through indoctrination methods such as those used in BTN camps.

They want to be fed with more questions and not be shoved with BTN-type of answers. We cannot afford to turn term them into docile beings while at the same time we holler the slogan "human capital" or modal insan the world over. It will be a "modularly insane" human condition if we continue to capitalize on human docility.

The Biro Tata Negara as an indoctrinating institution was conceived by "intellectuals" who themselves are trapped in their own cocoon or glass coconut shell of "wrongly-defined" Malay-ness and in a paradigm that teaches a poor understanding of Malaysian history. These intellectuals are running around in our public universities promoting a more sophisticated and pseudo-intellectual version of racism.

Inciting racial sentiments in classroom and boot camps is big business nowadays - profits made in the name of patriotism. But who's monitoring the trainers? Education is not about insulting one's intelligence and instilling fear in our children.

This is what the creators of BTN need to learn. In short, the indoctrinators need a good education on how not to indoctrinate.

"Melayu 'kan hilang di nusantara ..." if we allow the dumbing down of Malaysians to continue.

Progressive parliamentarians must discuss this serious matter concerning the organization's deliberate attempt to promote disunity and to further fertilize the seeds of racism, at a time when we need to come together as Malaysians in order to face humanity's greater problem such as the food, oil, and water crisis that will plague us as human beings - at a time when we must focus on constructing a new republic of virtue that will be founded on transcultural ethics, responsive and reflective politics, and a social-democratic-based economic system that do not tempt and feed human greed of the things they do not need.

Our Asian despotic brand of capitalism continues to destroy the very foundation of our existence and our moral fibre. It is greed - big time - that brought down the National Front.

Through the work of the Rakyat, Divine intervention helped speed up the process of removal of Greed disguised as political parties in power. That's the metaphysical interpretation of March 8, 2008.

We are not running Hitler Youth camps in Malaysia. We must not even come close to setting up one.

BTN and Indoctrination

Note:

I have a Chinese friend who say he will vote for DAP during coming election, the consequences is he get failed for his BTN courses. The next time when he attend the BTN course he pretend that he will vote for be end just in order to get pass the course. Very sad...

* Who gets included and excluded in this history textbooks?

* Who’s the hero – who’s the villain?

These are extremely creative individuals who enjoy being challenged at the most respectable and intellectual levels – not through indoctrination methods such as those used in BTN camps.

They want to be fed with more questions and not be shoved with BTN-type of answers. We cannot afford to turn term them into docile beings while at the same time we holler the slogan “human capital” or modal insan the world over. It will be a “modularly insane” human condition if we continue to capitalize on human docility.

The Biro Tata Negara as an indoctrinating institution was conceived by “intellectuals” who themselves are trapped in their own cocoon or glass coconut shell of “wrongly-defined” Malay-ness and in a paradigm that teaches a poor understanding of Malaysian history. These intellectuals are running around in our public universities promoting a more sophisticated and pseudo-intellectual version of racism.

Inciting racial sentiments in classroom and boot camps is big business nowadays – profits made in the name of patriotism. But who’s monitoring the trainers? Education is not about insulting one’s intelligence and instilling fear in our children.

This is what the creators of BTN need to learn. In short, the indoctrinators need a good education on how not to indoctrinate.

“Melayu ‘kan hilang di nusantara …” if we allow the dumbing down of Malaysians to continue.

Progressive parliamentarians must discuss this serious matter concerning the organization’s deliberate attempt to promote disunity and to further fertilize the seeds of racism, at a time when we need to come together as Malaysians in order to face humanity’s greater problem such as the food, oil, and water crisis that will plague us as human beings – at a time when we must focus on constructing a new republic of virtue that will be founded on transcultural ethics, responsive and reflective politics, and a social-democratic-based economic system that do not tempt and feed human greed of the things they do not need.

Our Asian despotic brand of capitalism continues to destroy the very foundation of our existence and our moral fibre. It is greed – big time – that brought down the National Front.

Through the work of the Rakyat, Divine intervention helped speed up the process of removal of Greed disguised as political parties in power. That’s the metaphysical interpretation of March 8, 2008.

Very sad…
