Gawai Dayak Greeting:
Allow me to take this opportunity to wish every one of you who are celebrating Gawai Dayak :
SELAMAT GAWAI DAYAK NGAGAI SEMUA: gayu guru, gerai nyamai, senang lantang, bidik lansik serta maju pengawa dalam pengidup abataun ti deka datai tu ila.
Sepenemu kitai maju, sepengawa kitai mansang, saum kenyap, saum mimpi – kering kitai Dayakbaru.
Hooooooooooo- Ha!
Aku nyambut Gawai Dayak di rumah panjai Sg. Gelam, Sebauh. Enti bisi peluang – semua di pinta ngabang ngagai kami sebilik.
Price Controlled Scheme now covers Gawai
As the Dayak pushes for a less expensive Gawai Dayak, the Government after 47 years include Gawai Dayak under its Price Controlled Scheme. It is better late then never. The message is simple, the ordinary Dayak are getting their message direct to Federal Government. The State Government knew about artificial price increases during Gawai, not much action was taken to bring the problem upward so that goods for celebrating Gawai Dayak would be put under the Price Controlled Scheme. Now, the public voices are getting louder before the federal Government step in.
Dato Seri William Mawan specifically raised this problem when he made his speech at the SDNU State Level Gawai Dinner on 15th May.He noted many Dayak have brought the matter to him directly so much so he suggest the Government must do something about it.
Gawai “Ngabang” good way to promote goodwill
This is a message that YB Daud mentioned that “ngabang during Gawai Dayak” is a good way to promote goodwill. Dayak take note, Daud says “Gawai” but never “Gawai Dayak” because the State Government erase the word Dayak from the State constitution.
Do you Dayak agree that we can no longer be called Dayak as a group: instead we must of Iban, Kayan, Kenyah, Penan, Bidayuh, etc? Is this a possible strategy by the Government to split the Dayak further through the politics of “divide and rule”.
State Gawai Celebration
DCM Jabu proudly declared that the Government will take over the responsibility of organizing the State Level Gawai Dayak celebration since mid – 1990. Two years back, DCM Jabu announced that the Government will not fund the Gawai Dayak State Level celebration any more. WHY?
The Government policies has shifted substantially from friendly to Dayak and change it to Dayak is a potential threat to the stability of the Government in Sarawak. Maybe it is better to have no State Level Gawai Dayak organize by the Government. In the last State Level Gawai Dayak celebration in Sarawak, Malay singers were brought in from Malaya to entertain the Gawai Dayak celebrants. Many really feel out of place with Malay songs sang during Gawai Dayak function.
Major Dayak NGO excluded
The Government also exclude major Dayak NGO from attending the Gawai. Why? The Government even politicize Gawai Dayak, to divide and show the people that only those “yes men” are invited to the party. For serious Dayak NGO like SDNU, a “YES men” mentality should be limited to Government policies that are truly benefiting the people.
We cannot be YES men in all policies of the Government that is affecting the Dayak communities. We seek fair and just policies.
Gawai Dayak Functions in Sarawak
Many feedback were received from those who attended various Gawai functions in Sarawak. In Bintulu, the organizer invited many NGO, but SDNU was not invited. Instead, Sarakup Indu Dayak Sarawak (SIDS) was invited. Politicians tried to “personalize” the Dayak NGO, to carry out “divide and rule” policies but excuted by some Dayak YBs.
SIDS – is the Women Wing of SDNU. It is SDNU. The Chair person of SIDS is Vice President 2 of SDNU. So what is going on? Is the Government “personalizing” Dayak NGO by criteria of the person leading the organization or the “objectives” and “vision” of the organization.
This “differentiation” by the Government on certain Dayak NGO is destructive to Dayak overall development in the long run. Looking from another angle, maybe it is a blessing in disguise because the Dayak NGO now must look for strategies to sustain its survival and also growth.The end result is, the Dayak NGO would become more independent and capable. The quality of thinking in Dayak NGO can also improve to being self sufficient. Many Dayak NGO today are dependent on the Government “give out” or “allocation’. This will prolong the Dayak “helpless mentality”.

Dayakbaru are encourage to send SELAMAT HARI GAWAI DAYAK to friends using this blog.

Selamat Ari gawai to you, your family and of course to the readers of Dayakbaru.Com.
Eventhougt we are far behind HINDRAF and PERKASA in term of our “braveness” in fighting for the dayak but atleast the way how Dr Dusit put it in his welcoming speech infront of Datu Seri William Mawan and Datuk Empiang during the SDNU Dinner that day can be considered as brave enough at our standard. We dont have people like Karpal Singh or Lim Kit Siang but atleast with Dr Dusit speech that night we can rely on SDNU atleast to bring forward our grievances…
Dr Brian and to the rest of the Dayak intellectual out there, please keep fighting for the dayak, not only spiritually but also in action. Do something which has an impact…and remember this..Good is not good enough if better will do..

HAPPY GAWAI DAYAK TO EVERY ONE AND THE BEST OF WISHES FOR THE OCCASION.
SDNU was not invited to Gawai Celebration in Bintulu just because Dr JBA is one of the excos in it. This the work of Jabu. Jabu just cannot accomodate anyone who is not align to him. What a stupid mentality he has? Why can’t Jabu see Dayak as Dayak, regardless of their political inclination. Jabu must be the first person any right thinking Dayak should eliminate from this part of the word. He is the prime mover of anti dayak movement. Any one who still believes in Jabu’s struggle for the Dayaks must rethink it. I think if we can get rid of Jabu, Dayaks will be reunited peacefully.
Change we must. Don’t be Jabu’s dog.
SDNU has been indirectly blacklisted by the Barisan Nasional (BN).
SDNU is a political threat to BN.
Dayaks are a racial threat to BN-UMNO.
BN is focused to further divide, split and rule the majority Dayak to powerless ethnic groups.
BN is not serious in helping the major Dayak NGOs. It’s not a mistake and/or oversight not to invite SDNU, there’s already a purpose of doing so; to BN SDNU is an opposition platform within Dayak NGOs but SIDS is crony headed by BN representatives (udang di-sebalik batu…..) or BN mole in SDNU.
BN is not serious in uplifting Dayaks’ economic well-being; make them poorer-poor so they would remain in poverty and powerless and become ‘Pak Turut” forever.
To BN the word “Dayak” must be erased for good including “Sea Dayak” and “Land Dayak”; a sign of ethnic/entity cleansing so Dayaks will lost their indigenous people rights. This also means to sub-divided the native ethnic groups into “others” and/or “bansa lain-lain”; “Bangsa Orang Setinggan Sarawak” (BOSS).
Having so, Dayak will become minority native ethnic groups and further weakened in their political strength but fortunately for the Melayu Malays who represent various ethnic group in Malaysia such Jawa, Kedahan, Bugis, Mamak, Riau, etc. I wonder what would happen if the “Malay” be dropped like the Dayak?
NOTES: Who control the Melayu today in Sarawak? Are the Melayu ‘Pak Turut” too?
So how is our Federal Constitution legality without “Sarawak/Sabah 18/20 Agreements” also known as ‘treaties’ unsigned?
BUT unfortunately the majority Dayaklama in the rural areas just loved BN’s candies and goodies…there’s a big gap of mindset between the ‘old folks’ and ‘new breed of Dayak youth today’.
Tomorrow victory depend very much on the younger generation votes – the ‘old folks’ (bala apai, indai, ibo, aya, aki, ini) are not the majority but the new generation. Get these new breeds registered now.
However, there’s a better way to strengthen the power and network of the Dayaks….”……..”….see you after Gawai Dayak.
Lastly, I begin to wonder what would Chinese reaction be if the Government drop the word “Chinese” from “Chinese New Year” to “Happy New Year”? Guess Aki Jabu and JE has the answer.

Happy Gawai to all, and less we forget, don’t spend your hard-earned money on drinks. Spend wisely. Lets be wiser Ibans or Dayaks. Remember, alcohol is the bane (curse) of our people. Alcohol makes us ‘imcompetence’ and ‘subservience’ to outside forces. Alcohol is the weapon to control our mindsets.
Drink wisely, and don’t forget, carry out our social responsibilities to our families and people.

What is the rationale for erasing the word Dayak from the Swak state consitution? Any details of the amendment, Dr. John for our enlightment?
Pls do the same for the word Malay, Chinese n Indian.
Will PR put back the word Dayak in the Swak State consitution if taking over the state gormen in next election?
In hindsight, let’s bn do all the uncessary evils to Dayaks which will awaken them. Extreme evil will produce the best from man, like the case of Nelson Mandela!

Kaban semua, Begawai begawai ga kitai TANG politik enda tau ditinggal ke. Maia gawai tu lah kitai bisi peluang betemu enggau diri sebilik, diri serumsh diri sebala diri sebansa. Kitai ulih ngenang semua utai. Kitai ulih ngenang pasal tanah asal kitai ke diambi BN enggau cronies sida iya, ngenang penyai tauka pemanah BN ke udah ngagai bansa kitai, ngenang pemerinsa tauka pengaya kitai bansa enggau maioh pekara bukai.
Pulai kitai begawai ila nyangka begau baru ga kitai, begau nyangka bisi bepilih mit baru. Selamat Hari Gawai DAYAK ngagai kita sebilik, lalu mega ngagai semoa kitai dayak. Ngajih ka semoa kitai gerai nyamai, gayu guru, lantang senang nguan menoa, betuah belimpah, tampak rita, jelai nama.
Ngarap ka petara merening lalu ngiring kitai Dayak belama, ngambi ka badu merinsa, nadai serbana. Ngarap ka bangsa kitai Iban mupuk ngeleda ngambi badu agi nyadi ka engkaramba laut Malaya, badu dikemeli ka sida Taib, badu dikeduan bala Iban ke dalam Barisan, ngajih ka kitai pegari, mereti badu agi bepecah, segempong, segulai, saum runding, sama kira, awak ke menoa Sarawak tu, laban sigi enggi kitai, dipegai, diperintah kitai begulai enggau orang bukai ka sama bisi penyinu bekunsi enggau semoa kitai ka asal menoa tu.
Ngarap ka orang di Panggau Libau semampai nyenggau enda ninggal ka kitai, orang di Gelong semampai nulung ngemata ka kitai, Petara sempulang Gana semampai begulai sejalai ngiring ngembing kitai. lest we forget our struggle for the Dayak agenda is still unfulfilled, we must not forget the roles and responsibilities that each and everyone plays in our community for years to come, if not now???
Don’t over-indulgence and getting involved in excessive consumption of liquor during this festive season. We must change the way we celebrate Gawai because lots of our traditions and the ritual are fast eroding.
It’s a shame to see our people behaved in an indecent manner infront of other guest during Gawai. High time for us to celebrate gawai in a decent manner, Gawai is not just a matter of drinking, eating, merry making but in a deeper sense of pride and dignity to preserve our ancient traditions and be thankful to our petara for an abundant life given to each and everyone of us.

Selamat Gawai ngagai nuan enggau family nuan. Pia mega ngagai semua kitai bansa di seluruh menua atau pelusuk dunya.
Aku enggau ati ti gaga amat mansa blog nuan Dr. Nuan meh siko ari bansa kitai dayak iban ti meruan ngering mimbing, niri negi ke kitai bansa. Aku minta saup ari segi runding nuan bakani ko jalai kitai bansa enda di indik perintah Barisan Nasional ba maioh macam pekara. 2: Kedua nya Tuai Rumah bisi sponosor siko Ngot ngaggai sida ia serumah BBQ.

1: 47 Tahun kitai udah nyukong perintah BN, Kitai bedau bisi ai beresi, electical, Jalai raya ti manah.
2: Enti kitai ka nyukong BN setegal, Baja, schoolship, kerja perintah, atap zinc, Nama aku tak nadai meda nya ba kitai ditu dih ko aku nanya sida ia? Tuai rumah enda babunyi.. kami serumah bukai bisi siko dua nyukong. bisi ga sida takut mar…tusah benar.. pia ko penemu sida ti agi tengah ari. reti nya agi pro BN..
Taja bakanya aku meri duit RM500.00 Ka rumah kami.

Tak asai ke bisi aku ninga rita siko Tuai Rumah ke sponsored bala anembiak iya leboh Gawai tu kemari ngena siko babi dikena BBQ lalu sik agi dikena sida iya begawai.
Aku bisi ga ninga rita duit tulong ngagai TR nya nyau ke lebih RM2500.00 taja pan rumah nya enda tentu panjai sereta nadai maioh bala rakyat.
Aku pan sama meh bisi meri speech mimit nyebut pasal reti 47 taun udah merdeka ngagai bala kami serumah leboh ke begelumu kena lemai 31/5/10. Laban ba rumah kami taun tu kami endang bisi ngatur bala tuai tuai bilik bejako MERI SELAMAT GAWAI ngagai pangan diri lalu ba pengujong iya,dia kami diatur betabi enggau semua kami serumah ke bisi datai.
Bala kami ke gawa perintah, kompeni tauka dini dini endor di nengeri tauka overseas endang bisi diawak ke peluang khas kena meri jako SELAMAT GAWAI DAYAK.
Pasal bebaju batik, enda ga kami ngintu iya baka nya. Tang kami bisi ngatur ngasoh bala semua ngena baju ke menyana agi leboh lemai 31/5/10;1/6& 2/6/10. Dulu suba, aku bisi sponsor prizes ngagai siko indu lalu siko lelalki ke selalu ngena pakaian ke memanah sekumbang leboh maia gawai.
Diatu udah nyadi tradisi kami serumah ke MESTI bebaju sereta betanchut panjai leboh maia Gawai Dayak.
Pelaba aku bedau laun aku meri SELAMAT GAWAI DAYAK 2010 ngagai 30 iko bala HANTUNET ke betuai ke Dr George, Dr JBA, Unggal Meramat Tajak, AnakKuli@HantuNet#4,IA,US,sereta enggau semua ke bisi ba list dia
Ngagai bala Dayaklama mega,SELAMAT GAWAI ngagai kita semua.
Kami serumah bisi beambi ngabang; setak muak ari ulu ngambi sida ari ili, lalu udah nya kena ari ili ngambi sida ari ulu.
Sechara spontan,nadai ari asoh tauka ajar aku,bala sida BELAKUN NYADI YB Iban ke SUAH MERI cheque KOSONG leboh bala sida iya bebuti.Datai ke rumah panjai ngena kereta besai, bebai ke secretary ngena protocal ke suah amat diberi ngagai YB. Laban dikena ketawa begagai leboh ke bebuti, dia sida iya bejako meri projek. Projek ke dijanji enda datai laban keno ko sida, bala YB Iban semina bejako kosong aja leboh ke niki rumah rumah panjai; bedau bisi allocation/duit ke utai ke disebut leboh niki rumah panjai.
Taja pio, ko aku madah ngagai sida,enda semua ga madah ke YB nya bula.
Sekali agi, SELAMAT GAWAI DAYAK 2010.
