Do not vote for a government led by Taib – Why?

Taken from; Sarawak Report

Dayakbaru:

We have a serious “corruption through abuse of power” situation now in Sarawak that can bring the progress and wealth of our country down the drain. The person at the centre of this serious situation is non other then the Chief Minister, Taib Mahmud himself.

We have made a report against him for his billion with the “hope” that action will be taken against him. Many would laugh off this report but beside beating his BN team in the coming State election what other choices do we have. Even the slightest possibility of moving forward to bring him to justice is a positive development in our effort to end the robbery and rape on our natural resources in Sarawak.

Taib strength is in his ability to deliver the seats to federal Government. Samy Vellu is being sideline because he cannot deliver the Indian seats to BN. MCA is struggling to keep the pace. The best way for UMNO to check the progress of Pakatan Rakyat is to throw in a much “personal attack”as possible to its leaders.

In Sarawak, we must stay focus on ending Taib’s rule in Sarawak. We know he has the money, but that is only only as we can still win the election by creating trust with the voters for Pakatan Rakyat political struggle. It is a reminder to all that we should not be “spectators” any more in the coming election. We must take some risk and concrete effort to help the Opposition wrest control of the Government in sarawak.

Read below why we should not vote for Taib led Government. Taib is causing destruction to our country, Sarawak.

No secret about Taib’s thieving ways

Chief Minister Abdul Taib Mahmud’s methods for milking Sarawak’s wealth at the expense of its people has been documented by numerous respected international news organisations, including Bloomberg, The London Times and Al Jazeerah TV.  The real scandal is that Malaysia’s forces of law and order have not long since arrested him and brought him to trial.

Taib abused his position as CM, Planning Minister and Finance Minister

Taib abuses his positions as Finance Minister and Chief Minister to make sure that nearly all state contracts go to companies that he and his family own.  He runs Sarawak like his own private enterprise. This is the essence of corruption. Under proper governance all state contracts should be independently awarded to companies that gives the taxpayer best value for money by the job.  This should be an open process that everyone can check.  But in Sarawak Taib hands out contracts behind closed doors – and he gives them to himself!

Dishonest Contracts

A brand new building that no one needs to feather Taib’s nest

Abdul Taib Mahmud governs Sarawak purely in order to make a profit for himself.  The biggest company in Sarawak is Cahya Mata Sarawak, the huge construction conglomerate, which is owned mostly by himself and members of his family.  Before Taib took power CMS was a profitable public company owned by the State, but he used his influence to privatise it and then take it over himself.  Nowadays Taib makes sure numerous government projects, involving huge payments from the taxpayer, are given to CMS.

CMS gets Government contracts every year – without fail

An estimated MR 500 million are handed out each year to CMS by the department of Public Works alone.  On top of that there are numerous one-off projects, for example the construction of the multi-million US dollar Aluminium Smelter project linked to the controversial Bakun Dam and of the new MR300 million Parliament Building in Kuching  - guess which company the Sarawak State ‘negotiated’ to give these contracts to?

Straight Scams

Another frequent scam is when money ‘disappears’ through sub-contracting.   What happens here is Taib hands out a huge government contact to CMS or another family company, which is then allowed to sub-contract the whole job to another company for far less money.  In this way the Taib family can make millions of ringits of profit for doing nothing at all.  The Malaysia Anti-Corruption Commission announced in November that a staggering 60% of the money laid out every year by Taib’s government on state projects ‘disappears’.  It is easy to see how.

Kickbacks worth billions of Ringits

Taib also makes sure his companies and family members control all the key positions where is it possible to accept big bribes from businesses.  Take the scandal exposed when the Japanese tax authorities revealed some months back that tens of millions of US dollars have been paid in secret, illegal kickbacks by Japanese shipping companies exporting timber from Sarawak.  The money, which adds up to hundreds of millions of ringits over the last 20 years, was paid directly to companies owned by Onn Mahmud, the brother of  Chief Minister Taib Mahmud.

Your wealth, but Taib’s profit

Faced with prosecution for not declaring these bribes, the Japanese timber companies explained that the Sarawak government does not allow export permits unless they ‘negotiate’ with a companycalled  Achi Jaya Shipping.   Achi Jaya Shipping is owned by Onn Mahmud, the brother of Tab Mahmud.

Taib rob Sarawak of its land to give to himself through proxies

Taib has taken millions of hectares of native customary rights lands from their rightful owners, the indigenous peoples of Sarawak.  The estimated value of timber exported from Sarawak is US$ 25 billion.  He has taken billions of that profit for himself.  How much went to the rightful owners?  In the process, his careless, unsustainable logging has destroyed one of the world’s most precious natural jungles.

Jobs and concessions for the family

Taib Mahmud has handed out over 1 million hectares of logging concessions to his own family.  He has also made sure that all the most influential jobs in the Government and state companies go to his own family.  Particularly favoured is his cousin, Abdul Hamed Sepawi, Chairman and major shareholder in the developer Naim Holdings Bhd., which has received numerous government contracts.

All but gone

The Managing Director of Sarawak Energy Bhd (SEB), which is handing out the contracts for the dam-building,  is Taib’s brother-in-law, Aziz Husain.  Taib’s brother Onn Mahmud controls shipping permits.

Taib’s sister Roziah Mahmud controls a huge business empire in Sarawak and was handed control of the Royal Mulu Hotel in Mulu National Park. Now Taib’s son Suleman has been given a parliamentary seat and as Taib grows visibly weaker every day the talk is all about making him the new Chief Minister!

We Must vote Taib led Government OUT!

Why vote back a weak and corrupt old man, who is dashing early into the elections just so that he can use his last fading influence to hand over to his inexperienced son?  PKR have pledged to chase the Taib family for their money and return it to invest in Sarawak.  Suleiman Taib will seek to continue his father’s rape of this country.

Conclusion

Many BN grass root supporters are supporting BN for the money: the business and the little power they got through community leadership appointment.

Once Taib Government is defeated, these BN supporters would run faster away from BN. That is the trait of “opportunist” by not risking anything but expect to gain everything. The mean to get what they want is not important but to get what they want is everything.

Change WE Must. We Must hold ourselves accountable and responsible to see that we bring down this Taib led Government. We cannot always start a new approach to development and progress for our State and Country.

If Pakatan is seriously thinking of making any headway in ruling Sarawak, they must win the Dayak votes. There is no two way about it. Without the Dayak votes, you can forget kicking Taib and his family out. So far I don’t see much effort being made to win the Dayaks over. Election is around the corner so why is PR sitting on their ass?

Yes…very true apai jugah. The dayaks heart and mind need to be won. True, so far I have not seen any structured approach on how PR will do that. If it is a people’s party, it must show that they are with tthe people. But til now I have not seen of that. During the last MP election, PR candidate appeared, but he was never seen before the election and after the election. I know the execuse is lack of fund…but moeney is not everything.

While urban voters know very well about Taib, the rural voters still treat him like `God`.

If Dayak ministers and elected representatives are still praising Taib, do you think rural and kampong voters believe you that he is no good? What are DB strategies to convince the rural voters to vote him out?

    As we Dayak.
We know what we want right.

1: Equal opporunity employement working as goverment servant, Petronas, Shell, port and let Dayak also be a managing directior for the company, General defense department.

2: Opporunity to develope our land with more clear agreement that more benefit the land ower and give a land tittle to landower.

3: More opporunity for Dayak Student entering univeristy overseas and local, schoolship, and technical school for these not perform well so that can be part of human capital and able to competation international.

4: More Dayak trained opporunity into business and give a opporunity like bangsa Melayu

5: Aspath road, treated water, electrical supply 24 hour to our long house.

6:Increase salary for comumity leader and his assistance example commuinity leader RM600.00 and his assistant get RM400.00

7:Discount rate or subsidary for agro products and stable the market such like rubber, paper, Koko etc that is part of Dayak Income monthly

If PKR have these agenda with their campign promise i dont think that Dayak will not weakup for being leave behind since 47 year old. that BN Goverment has done very little or mimimal do to or help Dayak.

    Like
1: Clean up the river – Dayak longhouse got RM3000.00 this is maybe done only one ever 3 or 4 years.

2: Beside of that like giving a chick to Dayak which is or maybe or 20 head per person. which equivlant RM200.00 Which happen maybe one every five year on none

3: Get a approve for paper, rubber schame which not all get it.

So why PKR can not do or talk to Dayak like this way if they be a goverment of Sarawak.

Let put a banner, sloogan by all mean to inform the Dayak.

So if your are, the canidate for stand against BN next election. You must willing to speak-up without fear and Faviour speak loud and clear.

    Chreers Salam 1PKR

There will be times when he has to submit to the almighty, we must aware that politics is all about fooling people to believe of the tricks like a magician. We have to uncover the magician code to tell the people that they have been fooled. If not the “tulah” or the curse will befall on the offender.

Time is up and the opposition must work hard to brainwash the poor and pathetic dayak voters who lacked sound knowledge of reasoning on voting for alternative government to replace the tyrants who plundered the wealth and resources of the state.

VOTE TAIB AND HIS COHORTS NO MORE….spread the new testament to corners of Sarawak!!!!

Glad that you had put it that way, as for me that’s the very reason I quit thinking politics. What you have described had been known since the Ming Court affairs, well known open secret, it is about the control of wealth, the money and the power, then divide and rule, these are what many Dayaks used to oppose, the very struggle of Dayakism for many years.

Sadly, the same Dayak fighters are the ones who steadfastly support and put Taib to power under the disguise of BN. Just look around and see that almost all able Dayak politicians support BN. Baru Bian was an ardent BN supporter once and God forbid if John Brian wasn’t one as well! Johnicol Rayong and Nicolas Bawin had uttered statement at the onset of setting up MDC that there was a possibility that MDC would join BN had it was able to be registered.

Even PKR MPs and Aduns, many had jumped into BN despite the fiery opposition stances since 2004.

Would Sarawakian opportunist politicians who are currently opposing BN not betray the voters should they win? I won’t dare to place my bet!

What do we do, should we not continue to fight for our belief or should we do nothing? Well fight you must and change you must you said, but change is within individual, and to change rural voters’ political stands – that’s not something you can do without visible monetary strength and local influences. I was at a rural longhouse in the rejang river last week and the way I see it our rural folks lives are very much intertwined with the government people and that means BN. As in election after election – these voters vote BN. Well it is interesting to see if Pakatan Rakyat will have significant impact on such Dayak votes. In Batang Ai and in the last Sibu Election the Dayaks still voted for BN. You need all the help you can get!

On another observation, don’t you find it ironic or downright disgustiing to see how politicians behave in order to survive by doing frog jumping? How friends and relatives could become political foe overnight and vice versa. Johnicol Rayong is our current living legendary frog…what is Adit doing leaving ex PBDS comrades…can’t be friendship got so simple eh? J Salang and Lutor…if only both of you could see the future, PBDS would be still alive now wouldn’t it not?

How about SPDP and PBB……..it is about politiek!! To quote Datuk Sng, “enti dek pechaya ke jako sida iya, manah agi dek pechaya ke manok bekukok ba baruh nya!”

….depend on which “manok” you refer to…LOL

    Yes,
Indeed the time is up for all the Dayak Ibans to vote for the CM Taib led government. He has been there for so many years. In the office for almost 28 years is almost too long for a person to discharge his duties efficiently. This old man is now rather old. The time is catching up with him and soon he will have to listen to the call of the Almighty. There is a sign of frailty in his appearance now.

He has amassed a wealth of fortune for himself and his children without the rural Dayak knowledge as he keeps his wealth abroad. Until recently, nobody really knows how much money has been swindled and plundered by him if not for the revelation from the Sarawak Report.

Luckily, I have not been wrong all this while. Honestly speaking I have never voted for the BN candidate except for the first occasion when I voted for the first time whereby I honestly believed that BN was the only party that could deliver all the goodness in this world. Soon I knew that all the goodness was only verbal promises which till now,has not been delivred.

It was a huge mistake. I regretted it till this very day. How could I was then so naive to be persuaded by the BN campaigners not only voting the BN candidate but also campaigned for the BN candidate. Being a fresh scool leaver then, of course I managed to force other rural folks to to the same.

I hope, the younger school leavers nowadays should not be so stupid to be influenced and exploited by the Bn candidate to campaign for them in the future if DBs are seriously talking about CHANGE WE MUST. Of course I know a few students who managed to gt a place in several Universities who normally some to see me for something. I really take the opportunity to inform them of the cruelty of the current government by making sure that when they come back home, kindly ensure that they do not vote for the BN government.

Cruelty here means a lot. There are too many things that could fall under this category; discrimination. marginalization and so forth.

Since then, there is now issue of not voting for the Opposition. Therefore, the question of not voting for the CM Taib led government does not exist for me and and hopefully my ex-students after their graduation.

So how nos fellow DBs? What are our next course of action? To me, other than getting systematically organized, we must make use of every opportunity to convince them of the need to change the current government. Of course, they are Ibans who disagree to criticize the government but what to do. Frankly speaking, the re are people who would give you a fair degree of food for thought. But this is only part and parcel in delivering our thoughts with regards to the misdeed of the government of the day.

    Cheers…

If the Dayaks mentality never change in rural areas in comning SE,Taib will continue to rule Sarawak.Tuai rumah are charmed by Taib that they always support him regardless whatsoever bad news against him.In summary, it the rural votes that enable him to stay for so long.

Okay, kalau kita tau kita belum cukup berpengaruh utk mengambil hati para pengundi dayak, why not we get start now. Enough is enough let change our mind, do not stick on this type of govn. again.

Don’t let HIM die but let HIM cry, when not in power in next SE.

    Change we MUST !!!

Syabas to all Tuai Rumah” Salam 1DAP/PKR

10 Iban longhouse Chief or Tuai Rumah from Balai Ringin has joined the DAP officially together with 620 others as the party shows its interest in having a candidate there in the coming state election.

Secretary General of State DAP Chong Chieng Jen today received the forms and membership fees of over RM2,000 from its Protem Chairman, Augustine Terban anak Ngchangak.

In a press conference this afternoon, Chong flanked by Augustin and Sri Aman DAP Chairman, Leon Jimat Donald said the applications were genuine.

He said from the number, 89% were Dayak, 5% Chinese and 6% Malays.

Chong said the application would be send to the Registration of Society for application.

He said DAP wish to contest in Balai Ringin, the seat held by Snowdan Lawan. In the last election, there were 8,469 voters in Balai Ringin.

When asked if the Tuai Rumah would get into trouble for joining the DAP, Chong said it should not be. “This shows that the people there want a change in the government,” he said.

In Sarawak, he pointed out that there were five Dayaks majority branches which included Sri Aman, Meradong Scheme B, Tamin, Serian and now Balai Ringin.

“It has always been the DAP effort to have a multi racial party and we are getting there,” he added.

For lift membership, an applicant need to pay RM100. For Non Chinese, they have to pay RM1 while the Chinese has to pay RM5 annually.

Every time I read Dayak Baru blog, I get dispirited because we read about the pitiful plight of the dayaks and there seems no remedy. Every writer and contributors know what is the right thing to do, but the dayaks at the grassroots keep doing the opposite. There are many excellent suggestions but what about implementation ? I sincerely hope that we are not the ‘old toothless dog’ that send no shiver to the spine.

  18. MERAMAT TAJAK on July 5th, 2010 12:36 pm

    CharcoalArt,

I pick out 2 key points from the writeup, that I think merit to be discussed in this blog to some degree of closure since its a recurrent theme.

    Trust in Dayak Politician
    ————————-

The key point you raise is if, there is any Dayak politican (BN/PR) that can be trusted to champion the cause of the community – given the SNAP/PBDS/PRS/SPDP history.

But, the point is NOT whether Dayak politicians can be trusted to be the community champion but:

    - its the question of whether we WANT to change and wether we BELIEVE in our community capacity to change.

If you will never believe that the Dayak community will ever produce selfless politician and capable leadership, then you will sentence the community to permanent failure. Not a constructive stance to have. It would be the same mind game that propagandist would often play out against the enemy during war time, to instill psychological paralysis , that the enemy is inherently weak and good for nothing. Don’t fall for it.

As for believing the word of politician, the mantra in this blog is not to believe anything without evidence. We want readers to read and understand the issue for themselves before making any judgement. We want voters to be rational.

    Dayak Supporting BN
    ——————-

I think, for the most part – it is unfortunately true that Dayaks have got used to equate BN with perintah (government) and with king (raja). So many naive Dayak voters would not want to vote against the Opposition for fear of the wrath of the king. Of course Jabu made use of this Dayak instinct with his “anang ngelaban perintah” and Manyin even go further and threathen to withdraw appointment of any Tuai Rumah who vote against BN.

This would be a difficult issue for politicians who would stake their career on wresting control from the incumbent BN candidate: a gamble. And precisely for that reason, those who made the personal sacrifice anyway, to try to effect change of political leadership at the grassroot, should be praised (except those who wants to sell out the candidacy to the highest bidder),instead of ridicule.

On a personal level, we will have to look deeply into ourselves whether our support in the fight against social inequality and injustice, like the myriad of NCR land issue, would be in anyway be worthy of our continuing support if the voters themselves couldn’t give a damn (by their votes).

To me,in that case, I think it unconscionable to be a populist in the bad sense of the word, and to be like a dead wood, to go with the flow, when we know of the injustictices of leaving the NCR land without proper deeds and title.

I think it best to take a stand, and be prepare to walk alone – if you are convinced that you are doing the right thing, than to try to be a chameleon and to always follow what the voters might want to hear. That’s the essence of leadership, and in light of the earlier point, about Trust in Dayak politician, its the characteristic that need to be nurtured in future generation of Dayak leaders.

  19. Dr. John Brian Anthony on July 5th, 2010 1:10 pm

    Charcoal Art

Are you holding on to a fatalistic view of your own community leadership? Does a generation of untrustworthy and in effective Dayak leaders represent the whole leadership for generations of Dayak and their civilization?.

I know many Dayakbaru people in this blog and ALL are people who are highly successful materially and in career term. They have made change upon themselves.

These Dayabaru are beginning the process of “walking beyond themselves”, trying to help the community but first they must be familiar with the issues and the importance of net working. I know of a few initiatives by Dayakbaru to help the community through their better understanding of “what is the problem” discussed in this blog, they organize themselves into a cohesive body and has gone to the ground to meet the people to solve the problem.

I do not see the need to sound the trumpet like the BN people about what has been achieved. We are doing this for our our community: NOT recognition, not position and definitely not for money.

Come and join us sometime. I know KL is a nice place to relax over the weekend. You will enjoy it better traveling and meeting people in the long houses and in different places at least once a month.

We must believed in our ability to change and improve instead of condemning ourselves to eternal failure.

  20. Bujang Roban, Betong on July 5th, 2010 4:48 pm

Fifty years already Merdeka under the BN goverment, we the dayak still talking about Road developement, Electricity and water to our long house. At the rate the present goverment is doing we may need another 100 more years to have roads, electricity and water supply to our long house. By that time all
our NCR land also has be taken by the BN.
    So why vote for BN?
All the dayak please make a change and vote for opposition who ever there are and let try what they can do for us for the next five years

  21. adongbelalai on July 5th, 2010 6:14 pm

Come what may, Taib’s reign must be stopped. Enough is enough. The opposition has no record. Of course there is no record becos they have never been in the government. One very clear record of the present government is the accumulation of wealth by Taib’s cronies and the control of the states economies thru numerous companies which had been privatised for Taib’s benefit. These companies had been given contracts worth many millions of ringgit.
PR may not have the experience to govern the country but that doesn’t mean it cannot govern the country. If we had been marginalised by the Taib’s Gomen, what is wrong with going for a change. I’m very sure that we dayaks will not be marginalised again, not probably from the very begining of their administration.

Once BN has lost control of the State, I don’t think there will be any frog from PR, there might be a few from BN. So for now, we have to change the present BN gomen which has proven record of it’s unworthiness to govern Sarawak. Who ever they may be standing using the dacing symbol should be voted out. Let the penghulus and TR throw their support to the BN. I’m sure they cannot win if we ordinary people don’t support them. What can they do once they lost in the election? Nothing to be scared of.

Change we must. Fight to win. Forget about our old slogan, Fight till death. BN cannot kill us but we can kill BN gomen.

BN still have no clues on the slogan “Change We Must”. BN supporters still thinks PR approaches on this coming election is still same as the last election in 2008.

No Room for Getting Dispirited. Most of us have been with this blog for quite some time. Some have disappeared from contributing ideas anymore but probably are still reading whatever is written in this blog. There could be some reason for their unwillingness to contribute anymore. Or alternatively, they have gone to the ground to initiate the kind of CHANGE WE MUST that DBs have been longing for. Hopefully, the absence of these people are not due to their tired minds thinking of the Dayak Iban plights which eventually giving rise to become dispirited.

There is no room for those who are concerned with the Dayak Iban plights to get dispirited easily. This blog is about 2 years and 3months old. Several hardcore Issues gripping the Dayak Ibans have been repeated times and times again. There is no harm in repeating ourselves until the problems are solved. In fact, someone says that DBs need to repetitive in order to be heard.

    Cheers…

Thank you all for your comments and kind words of wisdom. I do realise that I had sounded more than persimistic but as much as you want to disagree you also know fully well that my comments merely pointing out the facts. I am not sure how many Dayak Barus are, lets take a no. say 5,000, 10,000? or so, I don’t know, certainly many people read Dayakbaru blog…thanks to internet.

Considering about 1 million Dayaks in Sarawak, the relatively small no. of Dayak Barus are not my worries, I believe these Dayak Barus know enough that we Dayaks need to change and should get rid of the injustices which had been administered to us Dayaks as punishment for “ngelaban perintah” one way or the other.

My worries are the 995,000 other Dayaks who are pretty much comfortably stuck in their ways of living under the BN rule for the last 30 years or so. If you go to any rural longhouse chance are the people you talk to are BN supporters. 2 weeks ago, I tested this theory by provoking those who sat at the coffee shop with me, saying we need change..bla bla bla…while many would tend to agree that an Iban should be the chief minister who should replace Taibt all of them said they support James Masing or Alex Linggi or even Larry Sng…which means of course they support our beloved CM…tu meh politik kitai Iban…the 995,000 Dayaks aren’t able to ngelaban…it’s too complicated for them…it takes a lot to ngelaban because the stakes are too high for them.

If you analyse further much of these indecisiveness and stubborness to change have got a lot to do with their struggles to survive. Fact is we Dayaks are simply too poor to have independent political ideology, we depend on our political friends in BN to survive, to place our hopes even for a handful of crumbs. This is something Dayak barus who are a lot wealthier and have stable incomes won’t fully understand.

But this is the real scenario, not a situation that you and I wish to see but it is too real to ignore; not unless you are fond of dreaming.

I thanks DJBA for the invitation to join your regular trip, why not eh sometime…I do need some dose of fresh air every now and then…I may even be there during election time to meet many friends, not an issue for me. I am neither dispirited nor giving up on Dayaks but I am also being realistic, I am of course truly disappointed, I feel betrayed, I observed, I learned…I have little trust of Dayak leaders…i think most don’t have principles, they live for himself…but then again that’s politics…

I admire UMNO…at least they openly fight for the Malays but we Dayaks, hmm…I will wait for the days we change…meanwhile let’s try to survive first without trying to be a hero.

  33. MERAMAT TAJAK on July 7th, 2010 11:04 am

    Hi CA,

This is a well written piece. In a word, you are not dispirited but yours is a call to be realistic and pragmatic. The last sentence sums it up for me:

    >> Let’s try to survive first without trying to be a hero.

I agree – about being very realistic, pragmatic and about “not trying to be a hero”.

Perhaps its better to be an “anti-hero” instead ?

    - Nobody should have to make personal sacrifice even for a noble cause, exceeding what they are capable of. Always maintain capacity to fight another day – for the long haul.Persevering anti-hero fighter is better than a “dead” hero.

    - Also, I don’t think anybody would be under any illusion that BN in Sarawak would be toppled in a single State Election. So prepare for disappointment and to build up the strength to get up again, and again – if necessary. If the cause is genuinely larger than oneself, then the chap would be bonafide “anti-hero”.

    - Even if PR would miraculously topple BN in the coming State Election, the social change among Dayak that people talk about here, would not happen until many years later. So prepare to be an “anti-hero” for post-election victory, to fulfil election promise – to do work, to get down and dirty – relentlessly, er for the rakyat ..not family (our current heroes tend to unabashly enrich themselves …).

This should cheer up the anti “heroes” in you, and all of us, I think …

  34. batulawi on July 10th, 2010 1:50 am

A very serious reeducation program needs to be done to educate our kampung folks about the “perintah” that they are very confused about. It is gross treachery to allow our folks to be fooled and cheated the way they were the last 48 years. They may not understand you the first time, but on our part, don’t give up on our own people! We are no hero, but don’t ever be a COWARD.

We are not impressed with all those high-rise shopping complexes. It doesnt mean anything to us Dayaks, its just to enrich the economy of the chinese in town areas and we dayaks in the rural gained nothing significant from all these.

Are we born to lose?? No really….we desperately demand for equal rights for our people to progress not just for the benefits of certain quarters only.
TIME IS UP!!!!!Come brothers let us vote for rights and justice, banish the tyrants from the political scene!!!

  40. IbanLama on July 12th, 2010 2:16 pm

My dear friends, Unak wi Semambu and Oranje Indu Engkerawai,

Why do I am brave to say these? We iban, especially the IbanBaru are not daring enough to explore spaces and opportunities in towns, in the Spring, BuluLebat, Everrise etc. Even venturing into small restaurant besuiness, some ibans including the OldIbans just can’t keep going and slowly like a mushroom that grow vry fast and dies soon too or just hot hot chicken waste only. Our YBs have set many opportunities like OP Scheme, Paddy Schemes, Fish ponds, rubber, pepper….and yet we have not gone serious into such joint venture. At the end ot the day, we dwell in hatred feeling blaming the government for not doing enough. Why can’t we cooperate with the govt and same same we eat together the fruit of independence or Poilitics of Development.

For akih Unak, no need to use your ‘unak’ to injure a passerby or for akih Engkerawai, no need to sting anyhow. Just look for any good opportunites within the government.

There are lots of opportunities under the coconut shell. Just cooperate with Pehin and he will feed you coz of your supporting roles in his government.

    Salam 1BN

But for now, do we sit and wait for the skies to fall on our heads??

New comer to All native comrades,

What’s happening to u all, the majority in s’wak? It’s time to wake-up for coming election after taking BN’s “RMxxx sleeping pills” and sleep for 47 years. You all know what is going on around u, but there is still long way to go.

Yours conditions today are the political strategies of BN. Marginalized in every aspect of life for a living. Think about it profoundly. Why and how after 47 years of BN’s ruling, majority of u are still as u are as before? Do not blame yr fore fathers ‘cos they are uneducated, cheated and tricked by educated.

To cut short, it is yr this-generation duties n responsibilities to awake them up n together strive for yr next generation’s future which still look gloomy if this g’vnt is on power.

Sibu’s by-election is the best example. They get fed-up n show them who is the REAL BOSS n BN is worry now in urban areas. Rural areas – yr areas are still the BN’s deposit in Borneo Daily. Sibu’s people do not care about PR’s agenda. There is nothing to loose to give PR 5 year term than BN’s 47 years and knowing that as declared by Idris Jala that we’re on the road to BANKRUPTCY. U well know that to save Malaysia, all subsidies are cut n all soft of taxes (GST, 4D, etc) are robbing yr money pocket.

Sibu people said – If DAP pick an ORANG UTAN as a candidate in last by-election, DAP is still going to WIN. PM’s RM5,000,000.00 pledge “U help me, I help U” is still not able to move majority’s heart. Vote for Change or else u r still as u r today. God Bless U all.

  43. malileboo on July 12th, 2010 8:48 pm

Its due to the illiteracy rate amongst our Dayak voters esp in the rural areas that we are able to be manipulated and controlled by the BN govt. And these rural voters form the majority of the votes in Sarawak.
Majority votes from these illiterate Dayaks formed the bulk of force that gives authority for BN to form the government which means the minority intelligence of the few enlightened Dayaks are suppressed, and in a democracy, majority votes may not necessarily be practically correct to our Dayak political struggle. BN have and will continue to exploit these ignorance amongst our Dayak people, and these are the main issues that needs to be addressed by our DB if they wish to realized their dream of toppling BN and TM and forming the next Government.
Even if the internet were to reach every longhouse in Sarawak, it would still be like the proverbial white elephant, afterall how would you expect the old folks to educate themselves politically if they do not know how to use modern technology?
The only solution is doing it the hard way, that is to go to every longhouse in Sarawak, and explain from A to Z our political vision, and the injustices due to the present BN land grabbing policies and many more issues negatively affecting our dayak people. And the time to do so is now or has it started? I hope so, becos time is running out as SE is just round the corner.
