Teach us to HOW fish

Written by: Dr. John Brian Anthony

Just last year the State Government announced the revival of Agriculture Training Centre again. The Agriculture Training Centre was literally shut down by Adenan Haji Satem and so was the various agricultural subsidy scheme. I brought this matter up because the ATC played a very important role in rural farming and also upgrading farming technique to using modern equipment.

Agriculture Training Centre

The ATC in Sg Sengga Sebauh was an example of success. It was later moved to Mile 11 Bintulu Miri Road to act as training and agriculture research centre. If it has not been for the ATC much of Kemena people would be without cash crop like rubber on which they depended on today. The ATC also  help the Dayak to focus on farming by planting cash crop and help them to understand the technique of planting and personal discipline required in farming. Most of all, the farmer can relate to money and income through agriculture.

This is what I call TEACH US TO FISH and not just give us fish. The E-kasih programme while it is important it does not bring to us the knowledge and skill to earn our living by ourselves. We need to be taught and learn HOW to fish.

Why did Adenan Satem push down the role of ATC?

This I cannot answer on his behalf. Is it related to cost that the ATC is regarded as non-productive expense? Maybe they was a change of government policy and strategy that the government needed the land for joint venture plantation and that teaching the Dayak to do proper farming will take away much of the good land.

In the worst case scenario I can think  is it a political decision in order to keep the Dayak poor? I put it to poor judgment by Adenan Satem and that has caused the Dayak to digress in their farming method.

Home Demostrators

This is also another very important service provided by the agriculture Department. Cleanliness was a major concern at that point in time due to poor long house design and building material used. It was also true that the Dayak suffer from improper diet and the HD as they called it was able to do cooking demonstration and explaining to the rural people on the best way to get food source and the their thus improve their general health to carry out farming task.

Despite being in the 21st century I personally feel that both ATC and HD must be revived and continued. The problem that we have on farming is still our lack of knowledge and technique to be more productive in our farming activities. like wise despite the increased in numbers of hospital bed and rural medical health clinic the challenge to keep healthy remain the same. I dare say that there are more causes of health problem now with a new level of mental stress and physical agent like chemical in the water from plantation and general pollution that needed to be understood and how the Dayak can manage the same at family level.

Subsidy

The subject of agricultural subsidy abolition is also a move that hurts the Dayak the most. Such subsidy is of critical important because it helps to bring cost of farming down and bring agricultural productivity upward. The quality of farming products will also improve as subsidy is always associated with using the “right” product as it has gone through expert evaluation on what is the best and most effective product for money that can be used by poor farmers.

It is not uncommon for farmers who lack knowledge to buy expansive products and yet it is not effective to meet their objective.

Dayak Entrepreneur’s Fund

It would be in good synergy for the Dayak to enter business as part of the food supply chain. We have seen enterprising Dayak try their hand into business through participation in the “pasar malam” and “tamu Dayak”. There are also many dayak trying their hand in government contract business. Some has gone into providing products and services to oil and gas industries.

The main problem that these Daya faced is always “capital” i all its form. I have always spoken about asking for a Rm 500 million to jump start Dayak small business men. We all know that Malays and Indian are given special allocation to fund their business. To my mind the Dayak deserve the same facilities.

It is an important element to support our learning on How to fish.

Conclusion

We must start with something that has high impact and reaches the most people in trying to improve their standard of living and also to meet the rising cost of living.

Dayak involvement in commercial farming would ensure food for their table while also a reliable source of income for the family to move forward in education and investment. Technology play a very big role in order to succeed in farming and technology means we need expert guidance and advise. More importantly we learn better farming method that will make our community sustainable and robust in coping up with changing economic situation in our country.

Malaysia cost of living has risen steeply. Most basic food like rice, flour, cooking oil, sugar prices has risen. Farming is a true way to fend off the problems caused by rising prices and cost of living.

We can change and Change WE Must. Berubah meh – for a better life.

The government will NEVER TEACH US how to fish because they want DAYAKS TO BE STUPID, NAIVE AND BACKWARD FOREVER. What are we waiting for? Sarawak should leave the sinking and satanic Malaya. Sarawak will be one of the greatest countries in the world if we leave the one-sided deal.

Adnan is anti Iban. Sometime he purposely made bad remarks on Iban culture & way of living, all his deeds are disgrace to Iban.

He stopped the ATC because it catered mostly for the Iban, and the workers there were majority Iban. Laut have limited land and their cari makan is fishing. They have the special assistance from the govt. Now Laut are mostly permanently employed in the govt agencies or private sectors, they don’t need ATC.

We should give thanks to those who revived or reintroduced the ATC to make way for the rural folks learning the skills of farming. Hopefully, they make full use of the facilities, the knowledge, techniques & expertise provided by ATC.

Looking back over the years how the BN government helps the Dayak to improve themselves, very little concrete action is taken to teach us how to fish judging from a large majority still living on hand to mouth existence. In view of the governemnt past record, it is important for the Dayak to take proactive step to learn how to fish themselves so as not to be overly depedent on others to give them fish. This is because giving fish does not add value to our well being and deprive us of developing our thinking skill which is in fact the fishing rod we need for earning a living.

Let’s not forget that Dayak must change mentality, do these first before anything else:
    - drink less
    - work harder
    - sleep 5 hrs per day only maximum

If not it’s all waste of time, money, effort to tell Dayak to plant any crop or fish if Dayak still have lazy mentality (taught by Umno all these while). Ever heard about “Putting the cart before the horse”?

Rubber suitable crop for Dayak community
The Borneo Post, Saturday 16 October 2010

KAPIT: Rubber could well be the answer to the unregimented lifestyle of the Dayak community, especially the Ibans, said Minister of Land Development Dato Sri Dr James Masing.

He said the community had tried its hand at other cash crops such as pepper and cocoa but all were found to be economically unsustainable due to various factors.

On oil palm, he said Ibans in Kapit find it challenging to plant the crop due to their lifestyle and the undulating and steep terrain in the area.

“The Dayak community, especially the Iban lifestyle, is very unregimented and they could not tied themselves down to a regimented crop like oil palm,” Masing said at the closing of an agriculture dialogue held at Rh Nading, Ng Selentang, Ga’at Balleh recently.

He explained that a regimented crop like oil palm required stricter timeframe with regard to harvesting time and applying fertiliser.

“For instance if oil palm fruits are ripening, you can’t wait and start giving all sorts of excuses such as having drinking sessions with friends. If you leave it, the fruit bunches would be rotten by then,” he said.

Masing, who has a PhD in anthropology and specialises in the Iban lifestyle, pointed out that rubber would be more suitable for the community as it would not require too much time and attention.

“Rubber would be ideal or smallholders in our community. We just need to plant the rubber tree with minimal maintenance. And after a few years, you can start tapping,” he said.

As such, Masing who is also Balleh assemblyman invites Risda to assist the people in Kapit.

“With the latest rubber clones, we can produce high quality latex,” he said.

Meanwhile, Masing advised the people not to be hoodwinked by the opposition, especially Pakatan Rakyat, which was split in their fundamental setup.

PAS wants an Islamic state; DAP wants the opposite while PKR is merely populist, Masing said.

“For the Barisan Nasional (BN) government, our focus is on continued development,” he added.

So in the next State election, they should not have to think too much on which party to vote for.

The dialogue session was organised by Kapit Department of Agriculture.

Present at the dialogue session were political secretaries Angeline Umis and Wilfred Nyabong, Deputy Resident Akmal Abdullah, Kapit District Officer Simon Japut and community leaders.

    Taib praises Foochow spirit
The Star, Sunday November 21, 2004

KUCHING: Foochows can play a meaningful role in the globalised world because of their pioneering spirit, co-operation and goodwill towards others, Chief Minister Tan Sri Abdul Taib Mahmud said.

He said the Foochows were well-known for their pioneering spirit in turning difficult situations into opportunities for success.

“This was the spirit of the 1,118 Foochows who came to Sibu one century ago under Wong Nai Siong. I hope this spirit will never be lost among the younger generation because it is a great asset,” he said when opening the eighth convention of the World Federation of Fuzhou Associations here yesterday.

TOKEN OF THANKS: Organising chairman Ling Beng Hui (left) presenting a souvenir to Taib during the World Federation of Fuzhou Associations convention in Kuching yesterday.
The community, he said, were resourceful, willing to face challenges and prepared to put in all their effort in order to succeed.

Moreover, the Foochows had learned to maintain values of charity and goodwill towards others, he said.

Taib said the Foochows’ active participation in business and trade served as an example for others in Asia to follow suit.

The federation’s president Datuk Seri Burhan Uray said Foochows were known to be hardworking, dedicated and result-oriented.

“I hope future generations of Foochows will continue to possess these qualities,” he said.

He added that the convention was an opportunity for Foochows around the world to make contacts and create strong networks among themselves.

Nearly 3,000 Foochows from 16 countries attended the three-day convention which began on Friday.

Hard work, good planning key to speedy project completion: Ting
    Jan 12, 2008

KUCHING: Tan Sri Datuk Ting Pek Khiing is known for his speed in completing projects in the construction industry in the country.

But he says he is neither a magician nor a superman. He attributes his success to hard work, good planning and ‘less sleep’.

Ting adds success does not appear overnight, adding one has to work for it over the years.

“Nothing is easy. You have to work hard and spend less time sleeping because you can do more work when you’re awake.

“I sleep five hours a day,” he told reporter here yesterday when asked for his advice for aspiring young businessman.

Ting who is Global Upline Sdn Bhd advisor conceded that there were many established contractors in the country.

He felt it was insufficient to deliver a good job on time, adding one must also strive to complete a project well ahead of schedule.

As such, he said good planning encompassing all aspects including workers, equipment and technology would determine whether a project would be completed half a year or a year before the deadline.

“I’ve been in the construction business for 45 years now. Success doesn’t come in one day,” he said, adding that he believed in keeping his workers comfortable and happy so that they would give their best to the job instead of worrying about making ends meet.

On projects here for 2008, he said this year would see the completion of a four-star hotel – Sheraton Hotel – in August and the Jalan Song flyover by the end of the year.

Both developments would be a boost to city dwellers as the hotel would provide job opportunities while the flyover would allow for smoother traffic flow, he said.

Ting said Global Upline Sdn Bhd would be completing a range of big and small projects comprising airports, highways and flyovers in the country valued at about RM5 billion in the next two years. In the past few years, the company had completed projects amounting to more than RM3 billion, he added.

Asked if he would venture out of Malaysia in the near future, Ting said: “I’d stick to Malaysia. I love Malaysia.”

Asian operators emerge – Managing a flight department in Malaysia
By Grant McLaren, Professional Pilot Magazine January 1996

“How much do you want for that Falcon?” Tan Sri Ting Pek Khiing asked Dassault representatives during the Langkawi Airshow of December 1993. He was given a list price on the Falcon 900B demonstrator that had brought company executives down to the Malaysian airshow.

“No, you don’t understand — I want your best cash price for taking the airplane with me right now.”

The chairman of Kuala Lumpur-based Ekran Berhad got his Falcon 900B, Serge and Olivier Dassault returned to France by airline and the trijet launched into a 330-day annual travel schedule racking up close to 1000 hours the first year. Managing Capt. James Hanafin together with Captain Pat O’Donahue, who had been operating Ting’s Hawker 800, were dispatched to Falcon school right after the purchase and have scarcely had a day off since.

“Aircraft are our chairman’s basic means of transport. He works all the time, there’s no fixed schedule in his life and we never know where we’ll be flying next,” says Hanafin who has boarded everything on the Falcon from Thai Royal family members to case lots of glass blocks, hinges and bedding required to keep a hotel development on deadline.

    Typhoon Ting

Tan Sri Ting, 51, leads a life focused on speed. He’s become famous in Malaysia for building projects in record time and for taking on seemingly impossible tasks. Ting made the Guinness book of records building the 300-room Langkawi Delima resort in just 52 days and the 267-room Sheraton Langkawi in just 100 days. These record times include everything from swimming pool construction right down to landscaping and interior decor details. Ekran’s current projects include a 6000-residence marina development on the Malaysian resort island of Langkawi, a $560 million office plaza in Kuala Lumpur and a $6 billion hydroelectric project in the jungles of Malaysian Borneo slated for completion in just six years. Meanwhile, Ting is busy developing an airport in Bakun Sarawak, complete with a terminal, to support his new regional carrier — Saeaga Airlines — which will operate four Canadair CRJs and four de Havilland Dash 8s by the end of 1996.

“Wasting time is wasting money,” says Ting. “With a private jet I can keep all my projects on time. It gives me a competitive edge and better control over my businesses. I never have to make the excuse that I can’t attend a meeting and I arrive at my construction sites even before the workers do.”

Ting runs a 12,000 employee organization in timber, construction, hydroelectric dam building and hotel development. A hands-on tycoon, Ting holds his diverse business empire together with the benefit of corporate jets. While his current Falcon 900B will make London one stop out of Malaysia its real forte is in handling typical 1.1 hour missions within Southeast Asia from fields as short at 4000 ft. Ting lives in Kuching, East Malaysia while many of his business activities and offices are based 600 miles to the west across the South China Sea in Kuala Lumpur. Business jets fit right into Ting’s management.

“If you’re in charge you must exercise hands-on control,” advises Ting. “Staying away and issuing orders from afar while you disappear for two months at a stretch is no recipe for success.”

Ting uses his Falcon 900B as some might use a car. He’ll usually depart at 6 am and make up to eight or nine stops a day visiting construction sites and attending meetings. Pilots here fly a minimum of 70 hours a month, average at least 15 RONs and typically don’t know their schedule from one day to the next.

“After the last stop in the evening he’ll usually tell us where he wants to go at 6 am the next morning,” says Hanafin. “We carry handphones and pagers and we always pack clothes for at least four days. It’s rare to have an entire day off — we’re always on call.”

    New Asian flight departments

Tan Sri Ting is an example of a new breed of Asian business leaders who have come to realize the efficiencies and unique advantages of business aviation. As individual wealth in the region blossoms more and more flight departments are being established. This is particularly true in Southeast Asia where governments generally support corporate aviation. They desire the technology involved in the bizjet industry and want to attract maintenance and support facilities to the region. Airports, and airport improvements, bring in maintenance, support and repair activity and give local people technological training.

The Asian Bizjet market is growing steadily, if not quickly, observes Hanafin. With more and more regional investments in Vietnam, China and the developing economies of Africa business people are beginning to appreciate the flexibility and control advantages of operating their own aircraft. A number of Falcon 900s, GVs and Global Expresses have been sold into the region lately while midsized to light corporate jets continue to move well.

    Cash price, please

Ting bought his first aircraft, a Hawker 800, at the Langkawi airshow in 1991 and operated it close to 900 hours a year with Hanafin and O’Donahue at the helm. The Hawker flew to Australia, China and Europe and sold its owner on the benefits of corporate aviation. When the Falcon 900B was acquired two years later it offered not only better performance but a more comfortable cabin. Recently, Ting purchased a second Falcon 900B which he leases to a retired government official. “Tan Sri Ting prefers the 900′s proportions,” says Hanafin who, himself, now has the baggage capacity to carry crew golf clubs. At this year’s Langkawi show, December 5 – 10, Ting is considering an upgrade to either a Falcon 900EX, a Gulfstream V or a Global Express.

“He is a man who buys what he likes and he’s used to taking a purchase away with him,” observes Hanafin. “He prefers to pay cash and until a couple of years ago didn’t even have a credit card.”

When Ting walked into a Rolls-Royce dealership in London recently asking, “How much,” a salesman gave him the list price of a basic model. “No, you don’t understand,” said Ting. “I want a cash price for all the cars in the showroom.” A manager quickly appeared and a take-away price was worked out for all seven showroom models. Ting had the vehicles crated and shipped back home to East Malaysia. “Why should I waste time,” says Ting.

    Selecting an aircraft

“Now, all the salesmen come to me,” Ting says. “I’ve been happy with my Falcon 900B over the past two years but now I’ll look at the 900EX, the GV and the Global Express and then I will choose.”

A number of aircraft could meet the majority of his mission requirements. “Although a Falcon 2000 would suit most of our missions we often need 14 seats when carrying VIPs who travel with entourages of secretaries and bodyguards,” says Hanafin. “A 900EX would give us the same capacity we have now with the added benefit of getting to altitude faster. At full gross out of Kuching to either Dubai or Tokyo the EX will go straight to FL410 while the 900B will only make FL370 directly. A 900EX, with new Dash 60 engines, would also be cheaper to operate.”

Before Ting strikes a deal on a new aircraft he depends on input from his professional pilots.

“I serve as a go-between and run around in the background between Ting and the manufacturers — we try to give him all the information, operating data and advice he may need,” says Hanafin. “We look at various aircraft types and advise on performance. He’s generally very definite about the price he will pay and sticks to that price. Typically, he will want the aircraft immediately.”

Setting up an Asian flight department

Hanafin envisions strong corporate aviation growth in Southeast Asia — particularly in the area of smaller two-person operations. “That’s the way people like it down here — low key, low profile and very individual. You just get on with the job and if you need someone or something you just try to contract it out.”

Setting up a two-person flight department will cost you between $70,000 and $80,000 (plus accommodation allowances and transport) per ex-pat captain. However, it can be difficult finding type-rated contract pilots to cover a crew on vacations. Attractions for pilots based in this part of Asia include a pleasant living environment, white sand beaches, cheap golf fees and a low cost of living.

Managing an Asian-based flight department has both its challenges and pleasures according to Hanafin. You don’t have the benefit of a US-style FBO network, training facilities are usually far afield and you’ll wait longer for parts. However, once you get south of the slot-controlled Japanese and Hong Kong airports operations are generally less restricted than in either the US or Europe. Flight departments here are typically less formally organized than their Western counterparts.

“You don’t see the type of big-style flight departments profiled in Pro Pilot down here,” says Hanafin. “It’s more typical to operate from a hotel room or out of the trunk of a car — we generally have to be very flexible and able to adapt to last minute flight schedules. Dealing with the authorities around here can be as much an art as a science — everything is less structured. There are no slots and the only speed control in this region is into Singapore — you can basically do what you like within reason.”

O’Donahue observes that managing and running an aircraft is a more self-service affair in Southeast Asia and you have to develop your own local connections. Both pilots keep digital diaries filled with phone and fax numbers of ATC centers and other local contacts.

“The tower tells you were to park and that’s it — you’re on your own. Instead of having a lounge you’re either sitting in the aircraft or running around the airport doing everything yourself.”

Ting’s flight department is a true two-person operation. The Falcon shares hangar space in Kuching with state-owned aircraft. Maintenance is handled out of Singapore by Hawker Pacific Ltd and Universal Weather & Aviation’s Singapore Station Manager, Dave Richards, takes care of most international handling and permit arrangements.

    A rigorous schedule

Hanafin and O’Donahue’s flight duty is far from dull and they seldom languish days on end in hotel rooms between flights. With a wide range of destination possibilities within the region the crew may spend one night in a five star hotel in Singapore and the next in cramped and windowless rooms in a remote corner of Malaysian Borneo. Flying internationally within Asia has it’s own particular challenges. “China can still be difficult to operate into, Indonesia is generally OK and Vietnam is developing a great attitude toward corporate aviation,” observes Hanafin.

One recent day for Hanafin and O’Donahue involved six sectors and 10 hours of flying. The crew departed Kuching at 6 am for Miri (45 min) and then to Singapore ( 1 hr 45 min) followed by a stage to Kota Kinabalu ( 2 hrs) and on to Kuala Lumpur (2 hrs). From Kuala Lumpur the crew flew back to Kota Kinabalu in East Malaysia (2 hrs) and then home to Kuching (1 hr 15 min) for a few hours rest before a 6 am departure the next morning to Bangkok.

“We work hard but our chairman works even harder,” says Hanafin. “His typical workday begins at 4 am and often ends at 11pm when the runway closes at Kuching. He’s able to make use the aircraft to relax and recharge his batteries between meetings.”

Both Hanafin and O’Donahue agree that this is a great job if you like to fly and don’t have a family.

“You get the equivalent of five years experience here in less than two years and it’s on a new type of aircraft,” says Hanafin. “It gives you a great resume and as we average 20 takeoffs a week we’re always current.”

Ting’s crew flew 120 hours the first month the Falcon was in service and this dropped to between 90 and 100 hours the following six months. Over the past year 9M-BAN flew 840 hours with just over 700 sectors. The crew carries local Jeps as well as those for the Pacific and China. Trip kits are ordered for all missions further afield and into Europe.

    Aircraft ops

All-up costs on the Falcon 900 are running $1650 an hour, according to Hanafin, with an average fuel burn of 2300 lbs an hour over a typical 1.1 hour sector. Range on the Falcon 900B is 10.5 hours and 4100 nm at MTOW. However, even when operating out of a 4000 ft strip the Falcon still features a 4.5- 5 hour range capability. This short field performance gives the Dassault product an edge over other large cabin offerings allowing tankering of fuel on multihop regional missions. One recent flight out of Kuching into Indonesia involved nine hours of flying an six sectors with no enroute requirement to refuel.

In the maintenance arena the five-year-old 900B has been virtually trouble-free. The trijet is on a progressive maintenance program and whenever it overnights in Singapore a portion of an inspection is often accomplished. In two years of operation Ting’s Falcon has been down only eight days for unscheduled maintenance. Hanafin advises that advance maintenance planning is important in the region.

“You end up changing components early to avoid grounding the aircraft later for a number of days,” says Hanafin. “You’ve got to be able to fly every day and it makes it even more challenging when your maintenance base is 400 miles away from home base.”

Ting and his pilots will have plenty of flying to look forward to over the next several years. Ekran Berhard’s chairman plans to continue trading up corporate aircraft every other year at the Langkawi airshow, which is held in the Ekran-built Langkawi convention center. Ting’s idea of the ultimate business transport is to have the first corporate configured Boeing 777 in Asia.

“At first I was in doubt about buying a private jet,” recalls Ting. “But, now I am able to do much more business and I can do things faster.”

Borneo Post, Friday, May 11, 2001

KUCHING – Yang di-Pertua Negeri Tun Datuk Patinggi Abang Haji Muhammad Salahuddin Abang Barieng today urged the people to eradicate the subsidy syndrome and be less dependent on government aid.

He said it was important to change their attitude to strengthen the foundation for self-reliance and to develop a spirit of competitiveness. “Mindsets and attitudes which hinder development must be discarded.

The subsidy mentality and government dependency must be discarded to enable us to stand on our own two feet and to have a competitive spirit,” he said when opening the State Legislative Assembly sitting here. He said the people had to have a dynamic entrepreneurial attitude and be well-versed in information technology (IT) to face the global economic challenges.

“In order to meet even bigger challenges in the future, our entrepreneurs must prepare themselves to face competition in the international market, be knowledgable and have high integrity and self-reliance,” he said.

He said highly knowledgeable and skilled entrepreneurs would motivate the new economy and prepare the State for the increasingly tough competition in the era of globalisation.

“The globalisation trend is besieging us and whether we accept or reject it, is not the question. What we should ask is to what extent we are prepared so far,” he added.

His Excellency said trade liberalisation _ an aspect of globalisation _ required the people to enhance their competitiveness.

“This means they should be efficient in terms of the quality of the produce and production cost. A mind and attitude still inclined to traditional work practices which stifle progress should be discarded,” he said.

He also stressed the importance of research and development (R&D), saying the government should reap optimum benefits from the State’s vast natural resources.

On human resource development, the Head of State said he appreciated the State government’s efforts to develop a ready pool of highly skilled workers, who were knowledgeable and trained in information technology.

“A huge allocation has been set aside for educational facilities and skills training. There is also a fund for Sarawak students to further their studies and upgrade their skills, especially in the technical and professional fields,” he said.

He thanked the Federal government for establishing community colleges in all parliamentary constituencies.

“This will certainly enable us to have more opportunities for the youth and members of the public to increase knowledge in technical and vocational skills,” he said.

His Excellency also reminded elected representatives not to neglect their constituents, saying they should try their best to help them.

“As representatives of your constituents, you are in the best to understand the problems of the people such as on issues pertaining to education, social and economic development,” he said.

Go back to basic…learn HOW to fish???, what a bad idea. Now we are talking big, so why talk about HOW to fish? Isn’t that STUPID? sorry doc. but thats the reality. We can’t look back, we must move forward introspectively, lest we will be handicapped by our own inaction, incapability to catch a BIGGER fish. Thats the RHETORICS!!! or rather a HYPOCRITICAL remarks!!

    Akaidai!!!

    TEACHING A MAN TO FISH

    • Teach yourself First not ‘fishing for mercy’.
    • Teach yourself to Fish.
    • Educate yourself to Fish.
    • Force yourself to Fish.
    • Empower yourself to Fish better.
    • Learn to Fish by yourself.
    • Study the Fish so you can catch it easier.
    • Learn to work as a team to catch more Fish.
    • Regroup your team of fishermen to explore the ocean to catch more Fish.
    • Don’t be the Fish in the pond that live on daily feeding, get out of it and explore the seas.
    • Be the Man who gives you the Fish, you’ll be at par and/or better than him.
    • Learn from others who can Fish better than us.

    NOTES:

    Fish is not necessary “politics”.

Fish can be “Food”, “Knowledge”, “Technology”, “Innovation”, “Invention”, “Economics”, “Finance”, “Investment”, “Networking”, “Entrepreneurism”, “Business”, “Law”, “Opportunity”, “Possibility”, and others that is of primary important to you, your family and your community in uplifting your well being and/or standard of living.

F.I.S.H – “Find Initiative Sufficiently and Honestly” or “Finance, Investment, Security & Health” or other synonymous.

WE ALL KNOW THE OLD SAYING.

“Give a man a fish, and he eats for a day. Teach a man to fish and you feed him for a lifetime”.

The wisdom of the old saying that the world is best served by teaching a man to fish rather than giving him a fish to eat rings true down through the ages.

If an aid society, wishing to do the right thing, simply chooses to give food to starving people rather than teaching that same group of starving people how to fish or farm, damage is done that can take generations to fix. Are Dayaks belonged to “Aid Society”?

We have all heard this quote many times to justify many things. A cliché, perhaps, but it is nevertheless a timeless piece of wisdom. And we have all wondered why it didn’t work better than it seemed to.

I feel what is missing is desire, commitment and willingness to learn and/or explore outside the box.

The fisherman has to want to learn how to fish. If he doesn’t want to learn, he will stay hungry. It is part of the art of survival, art of progression and art of modernization.

    • Are “Sea Dayaks” not fishermen?
    • How have they survived all these years?
    • If they are “Sea Dayaks” why have they not going out into the sea and catch more Fish?
    • What make them live ‘inland’ rather than exploring the sea so they can Fish better?
    • Why “Non-Sea Dayaks” can Fish better than “Sea Dayaks”?

The fisherman has to effectively use what he/she is taught and experienced as well. If he/she doesn’t understand the instructions, or misuses the instructions, he/she still will be hungry and/or remain poor.

Maybe that explains why “80%” of Dayaks remain poor, backward and dead broke.

We all want fish, and if someone shows us how to fish, we still won’t really learn. After all, we are entitled to “Life, Liberty and the Pursuit of Happiness”. Are you?

But is poor, backwardness and/or dead broke what we really bargained for? Isn’t there more to living in Malaysia than just getting by?

All around us people are talking of the bad economy and the corrupt politics; government has no money, and believing it.

But people are still making money. People have always made money. Even during ‘The Depression’, people made money.

We have been indoctrinated ourselves in the “Societal Cultural Hypnotic Trance” and/or with “Problem of Personality, Rationality, Directionality, Communality and Affection” which has kept us from achieving the destiny we were meant to receive.

But there is a way to take control of our destiny. Many have developed systems to build teams and unity or ‘beserakup’, and ‘cooperation’, ‘collaboration’, ‘corporation’, ‘corporatization’ and/ or ‘conglomerate’, to generate income and to be come self-sufficient, self-efficient, self-independence, and inter-dependence.

The key word there is “self,” not “government,” not “entitlement”, but always “self” and “inter-dependence” (and inter-connectivity).

That is what the Dayaks enforced themselves to become “self-development”, “self-determination” and “self-governance” (men and women / rural and urban), and taking a new step and initiative to stand for what they believed in and building a system where it could flourish.

It was built on the desire to become educated and learn Fish, not the willingness to accept fish.

    LASTLY

You have a choice, learn to Fish or accept Fish.

    • If you accept the Fish, you have to accept that you are part of the “80%”.
    • If you learn to fish, you have the opportunity to be in the 10% and the rewards that come with it!

ARE YOU A FISH THAT NEED TO BE ‘SILVER-SPOON’?

    Thank you.

    After we learn how to fish we need;

    1. Fishing equipment. Some community are provided with equipment by the government. Are we?

    2. Fishing ground. Can we fish anywhere we want? Some lucrative fishing ground are reserved for others! We are only allowed to catch the small fish!

    Happy Fishing.

Just look back as far as possible, where did our civilisation first start. Don’t know where were the ‘iban’ when Jesus came to this world. How did the so-called iban at that time called their own race? The Romans were quite developed when Jesus came and still they are more developed today. During Jesus time, the jews walked on foot, ride on camels, donkeys, horse. Even as early as during Moses time, the Egyptians ride on chariots to chase Moses and his people to the edge of Red Sea. Yea…quite developed. Maybe there were so-called ‘iban’ bveing chased by the Egyptians hehehehehehe

    unggal GKM,

…so the moral of the story about Bunyau and Mujap? Sapa Paloi? Bunyau @ motosikal ???

  36. gkm2020 on August 1st, 2011 12:57 am

    Unggal engkerawai,

    Just my thoughts….

PERSONAL DEVELOPMENT: LEARN TO TACKLE STUPIDITY

Think about this; is ‘Bunyau’ an idiot?

Stupid is, as stupid does. So do your best not to be stupid or “paloi”.

I know it is not popular to label people as stupid. Tons of time with people who are so “thick head” they just keep on the same dumb track.

WHY SOME DAYAKS KEEP ON DOING THE SAME MISTAKE ALL OVER AGAIN?

All of us do stupid things at some time in our lives. And I am one of them too. We pay the price and learn from those ill-fated actions. No problem!

We lose our motivation to do things that don’t work or have a very low probability of ever working. We move on!

For many people, feeling that they are stupid is not common. For others, they feel like they’re constantly feeling plain dumb. Is your backwardness due to dumbness?

This means we need to LEARN and TEACH ourselves first on how to stop feeling stupid, possibly learn how to forgive ourselves, and possibly learn how to think before we open our mouth and/or do something.

Referring to ‘Bunyau & Mujap’ scenario above:

I believe feeling stupid is often the result of something that was said/done that didn’t make much sense. It’s often because we failed to analyze things (SWOT) and jump onto it blindly.

Or when a person wasn’t listening very well to what was being said, or they opened their mouth before they realized what the conversation was really about. “Paloi motosikal tu…”

This results in a feeling of being stupid, when it’s not really “paloi” or even ignorance, just reacting before thinking.

When we do stupid thing and/or decision, we probably doomed ourselves into unforeseen problems; underserved, underprivileged, underdeveloped, incompetence, etc.

If you’re one who often winds up feeling less intelligent than you should be, stop and think before you open your big mouth or do something drastic or sign something blindly.

Scenario: “You’re my trustee; I fully trust you….Trust yourself first before you surrender your full power of attorney (PA) to your trustee…you might lose everything….understand your clause as an exit point…..protect and safeguard yourself and your future always….”

Often, the conversation and/or understanding is deeper than you recognize it, and that’s why when you to jump into the conversation/understanding, and wind-up feeling stupid. In other words, think before you speak and think before you do.

If this happens to you a lot, make a promise to yourself not to open your big mouth or accept something blindly without thinking first!

And as you get better about not speaking or doing thing before thinking, your feelings of stupidity will lessen.

The other side of the conversation/understanding is those people who feel stupid no matter how smart they are.

First of all, no one in the world can know everything, most people have a general intelligence, but many people have a specialized intelligence in certain areas.

Some are “Jacks of all trades but master of none”. You’re born specialist in your own area. God gifted us with brain, skills and talents.

If you find that you’re feeling stupid, find your special area of intelligence and learn everything you can about it, and don’t worry too much about not knowing much about the rest of it.

Feeling stupid is not a natural emotion, if you find that you’re feeling stupid on a regular basis; try to learn how to think before you open your mouth.

FINALLY, DO REALIZE THAT IT’S NOT THE END OF THE WORLD

Some times our stupidity gets the best of us and we lose jobs, homes, lands, powers, privileges, supporters and friends.

When that happened you have to realize that tomorrow will come and this is not the end.

Your final forgiveness comes from a place not seen by human eyes. You also have to forgive yourself and do your level best to finish well.

Many times that is the reason we hide from our stupidity. It is harder to forgive yourself than anyone else.

Once you say “sorry”, and if you genuinely are, and there is nothing more you can do you have to move on. Give it to God and start again.

NEXT TIME, THINK FIRST BEFORE YOU DO OR SAY!

    Thank you.

  38. CharcoalArt on August 1st, 2011 11:45 am

    Stupidity is very relative.

Positive people seldom use the word stupid neither at work nor at home. But humans ain’t perfect therefore many would do and say although it is not desired.

It takes a man to really discover himself to be able to accept criticism or being called stupid by others.

Calling others stupid is insulting so better don’t do to others that you don’t like others to do to you.

Each one of us must have felt stupid somewhere along our life. Having done something stupid maketh one a better man. Doing something stupid is different from being a stupid person.

Some people have learning difficulties – so it is the most cruel to say that they are stupid.

So please be careful with such word and it is a very positive outlook if we are to avoid it altogether!

    Food for thought.

  39. Akiq Hawong on August 1st, 2011 1:32 pm

    A few years ago there was a ‘ young entrepreneur ‘ program for jobless graduates in Malaya. Those who wanted to do agro-business were provided with;
    1. A plot of land.
    2. A soft loan from the bank.
    3. Assistance from MARDI.

One young man said he earned RM15k a month from his chilli farm!

    FIP,
You are right. There are a special ‘young business program in Malaya’ but not in Sarawak.
Program tu mujur endar mansang ka bala Melayu ke nadai kala bedagang maia nya, 1980s.

Siko kaban aku ari Kedah, muka ladang nupi rusa. Diberi perintah loan, tanah, subsidi serta ditulong perintah chara enggau tempat nyual daging rusa. Ari ladang rusa iya diatu join the cooperate world.

Lebuh aku nemuai ngagai iya 7 tahun ke udah, tekenyit amat meda pengidup iya. Diatu kami duai selalu betukar penemu pasal business.

Ajar iya ngagai aku, ke nyemetak ba aku iyanya.
Ko iya. “Enti kitai nadai peluang ba tempat kitai ngereja pengawa manah kitai ngiga tempat bukai. Anang ngenat ka iya.”

Iya empu berasal ari Kelantan lalu bebini ba Kedah. Iya nyebut nya laban iya ngasai ka diri bisi orang nyekat ngereja pengawa ba Kelantan. Kelantan dipegai PAS maia nya. Ari nya BN nyekat program ngemansang ka rakyat.

I hope the government can give us a chance to join the program.

    IbanLama,

The graduate did not do much labour himself. He is the manager, he has a few workers. His farm is his own company. He did the planning, management, marketing, etc. In fact he can call himself the Managing Director! No shame in that!
    Carry on fishing, old chap!

ATC & Entrepreneur fund et al

Penanggul enggau penusah menua pesisir selalu dirandau kitai. Sebedau kitai nibalke jaku kiba kanan, kitai mesti meratike bagi pengawa enggi kitai, lalu ni bagi pengawa enggau perintah.

    1. Enggi kitai: “Mulut nyebut patung enda nyaut,” nya sempama kitai bansa. Ngambi chunto ATC nya. Kitai bansa sigi nemu nanam sayur, buah enggau kebun bukai. Kitai nemu nupi babi, manuk, ikan.

Penanggul ukai teknoloji nanam tang “ekonomi nanam.” Udah ditanam, dini endur nyual? Udah dijual, keni nyimpan asil duit? Udah taun tu, bakani taun siti nyin ila?

Dalam betanam betupi, penanggul besai kitai nya nyingkang ari “subsistence” asuh “enterprise.”
Dini endur kitai tau belajar “enterprise” tu?

Sapa orang ulih ngajar kitai? Nyaut tanya tu mai kitai pulai baru asuh pengeliat ati kitai bansa ngidupke diri.

    • Chunto ke-1: Kitai Iban madahke diri enda diberi kontrak perintah. Tang dipansik aku, kitai Iban ke bisi rejista aba PKKK (Persatuan Kontraktor Kontraktor Kementerian Kewanangan) nadai dipeda, laban kitai Iban lebau enggau orang kursus PKK.

    • Chunto ke-2: Kursus diberi Dr Luhat ngechas RM300. Berapa iku kitai Iban bisi masuk kursus iya?

Munyi ku jaku dutor (PhD) siku kitai Iban, orang mina ka kursus enti bisi YB datai, laban deka melanchung.

Semua tu bepanggai aba kitai empu. Enti ati bisi deka ngaga, deka mujur kitai anang mina nyebut. Patung mesti deka engkebut. Kaki mesti deka nyingkang. Nadai orang ulih ngajar kitai.

    2. Enggi Perintah: Kelimpah ari polisi “comprehensive,” perintah tau nyediake:

    • Bajet. Aba penemu aku, bajet tu mina begunake RM20 juta aja, enda ibuh datai RM500 juta. Enti bajet besai baka RM500 juta, target ukai mina “micro-finance” tang “overhaul” ekonomi kitai iban.

    • Bajet tu dibagi 2. Kesatu, duit dikeluar nitihke silik “micro-finance” lalu dipegai nitihke “revolving-fund.” Bantu diberi nitihke module. Module 2 digaga udah module 1 mujur. Udah nya baru module 3, 4, 5 etc. Kedua, kena mayar teknoloji, tauke pakar nulung ngemajuke pengawa.

    • Begulai netap juluk (target) ke ulih dipeda (tangible).

    • Meri geladak endur belunjik, tauke legal coverage & infrastucture. Tanah kitai udah bisi tang pala tanah mesti bisi. Enti deka mansang, nadai jalai bukai tang tanah mesti bisi identity.

Program di Malaya kena nulung bansa Melayu nya enda ulih dikeingat aku magang. Baka Kemas enggau PNUB (Belia) bisi meri pinjaman mit dikena Melayu bisnis. Kemas enggau PNUB engka enda datai aba menua kitai – tauke enda diberi asuh kitai bansa.

Ngemajuke suku bansa Dayak nguna saup ari perintah enggau ari kitai empu. Jaku udah kelalu panjai. Awakke orang bukai nyambung. Nyurutke diri aku.

    Terima kasih.

Sorry lah Prof. Seliong, PKK contractor license only reserved for BN goons.

It’s UMNO that teaching the Dayak YB Iban YB be contractor but not other Dayaks non-BN goons.

If many qualified skilled hardworking Dayak contractors given equal opportunity no need to pay Ali Baba fees (saguhati) to Dayak YBs as their cable line, what would UMNO think?

Of course Umno will never suppport it as these Dayak contractors will donate their profits back to Dayak opposition and topple Taib BN PBB.

That’s why only BN Dayak YBs Goons are given supported contractor license PKK CIDB UPK, not the rest of qualified skilled hardworking Dayak contractors.

Again look at the those open the fishing prawn business(fish at tank). Stupid but profitable. Why don’t use penyodok to catch the prawn than wasting time fishing it. But the shopowner knows stupid people always come to fish and pay for it enjoy fishing in the tank without penyodok.

BN is like that to the stupid Dayak BN supporters. BN created the fish tank (Bumi PKK contract license) to keep the BN YBs try their luck get as much tender projek debolotment without the penyodok. Those with penyodok (qualified skilled hardworking Dayak contractors) cannot join lah.

This is all UMNO sick culture being taught to Dayak. No need to learn how to fish as fish always there in the tank.

The most important thing is this:
“It’s not what you know but who you know lah!”

    Got that Dayak?

A Dayak YB with one pickup truck and one JCB backhoe loader plus one Pomen can get PKK Class A CIDB Gred G7 super Bumi status no limit contractor license can bid for projects worth billions. Why?

“It’s not what you know but who you know lah!”

And why qualified skilled hardworking Dayak contractors get work on time, on budget, quality workmanship at best given sub-sub-sub contract work with PKK Class E pending Bumi status?

“It’s not what you know but who you know lah!”

That’s why Dayak BN YB Goons never tell you how he get rich from big projek debolotment. Dayak BN YBs can only tell Dayak folks to plant this vegetable large scale etc to escape poverty. Such a joke, right!

It’s Dayak leaders refuse to let rest of Dayaks get rich except themselves. They keep the fish tank for themselves as per Umno strict order.

If 1 million Dayaks get rich then you all BN goons Taib CMS Umno can get the hell out of Sarawak lah paloi!

    So you choose lah Dayak:

    1. “Teach how to fish and live free” or,

On the subject of ‘FISH’,as written in a book title,The Idea Of Justice by Amartya Sen,regarding what early Indian legal theories on what they called ‘matsyanyaya’-'justice in the world of fish’,where a big fish can freely devour a small fish.

The author explained that we have been warned tha tavoiding matsyanyaya must be the essential part of justice, and it is crucial to make sure that the ‘justice of the fish’is not allowed to invade the world of human beings.

He continues,’no matter how proper the established organisations might be,if the big fish could devour a small fish at will, then that must be a patent violation of human justice’

No matter how we learn to fish,in order to catch more fish, when the ‘justice of the fish’,is allowed to invade our human world, there will still be problems.

What we must learn is that,’fish rots from the head’,and this must be done first-Chop the Head of the fish because fish rots from the head.

On Poverty-Poverty exists because vital resources-the things that make life good and ,sometimes, the things that make life possible-are NOT evenly distributed.Whether such resources could or should be allocated equally,or less equally,is the concern of social justice. To the extent therefore, that politics is the business of creating a fair social order,Poverty is,and always been,an issue of central importance in political theory and practice.

Poverty is usually thought of as a condition in which people are unable to satisfy their basic needs and hence to function normally within society. But what counts as a basic needs and what counts as normal?

    1. Pasal bansa Chinake betulung, aba penemu aku, enda tentu betul iga. Iyake betul nya, bansa China nemu reti bisnis, sevis enggau kualiti. Pekit bansa China ukai bejai pangan diri. Chara sida bepekit nya ngiga jalai nyual barang ke manah agi, barang ke bisi kualiti. Udah nya sida iya berat ke ‘after-sale” sevis.

Endur kami (aku begulai bisnis enggau China) betulung nya baka tu: Enti kedai aku nadai barang tu, aku talipon asuh kedai bukai. Rega dijual sida iya nya “kos-price.” Enti iya nadai barang pegila, aku pan nyual “kos-price” asuh iya. Tang antara tua iya, kami endang berat meri sevis belaban pangan diri. Nya adat bisnis.

Siti agi endur kami betulung nya enti tetemuke supplier manah. Tang term kredit nya nuan empu bekira enggau supplier.

Tu mih selalu disebut aku ngelama tu – kitai bansa mesti nemu konsep bisnis, ukai bisnis muntang aja tang binsis besaing enggau orang bukai.

    2. Pasal perintah meri awak (peluang) asuh bansa Melayu di Malaya, nya sigi amat. Munyi aku nyebut ngelama tu, menua kami di Shah Alam, semua section ditu beratus iti kedai, lebih kurang 80% nya bansa Melayu. Baka Section 3, 17,18 nadai kedai bansa bukai, endang Melayu magang. “Ukai nya baka ke bisi bangsa bukai ke enggau sida bepekit. Tambi, Melayu enggau bangsa bukai nadai ga enggau sida bepekit.” Ko Bunyau nyebut baru.

“Angka amat ga utai ko di nya Bunyau, peda di kedai Lesoi ba Nanga Gat, ulu Balleh, nyau bekuap gamal sadin agi meh dijual cina. Ukai bisi orang ngecek baka di Shah Alam.” Ko Mujap nyambung jako Bunyau.

“Amat nya Bunyau. Agi siti contoh. Kedai Endu bangsa Kayan ke ngaga kedai makai ba Miri. Udah nya China ngaga ga dia sepiak-sepiak. Peda di rega enggi cina ke dia, ukai nya baka rega ba pasar bukai. Jauh murah. Bedau datai di ba kedai, Endu udah ditarit cina dijari di awak ke enda mansang ngagai kedai Endu. Randau kitai tu nya: “Teach us how to fish.” Tanya kitai diatu/ditu nya: “Do I want to learn?”

    1. Tiap Gawai Dayak, sebana bansa Iban menua kami Sibu/Kanowit nya: Rega babi, manuk mar. Engka sebana tu enda didinga aba menua bukai. Enti mar, lapa kitai Iban enda nemu nguna awak (opportunity) tu? Sapa salah, Iban ke enggai belajar, tauke bansa China ke pintar ngiga untung?

Dua (2) kali aku mai randau sebana Gawai tu dalam Utusan Borneo. Kedua’ nimbal enggau jaku manah, tang mayuh agi e-mail diterima nya ngelesey. Enti nitihke jaku jai timbal orang, bisi endar ati enggai agi meri jaku ajar.

    2. Pia mega pasal barang “expiry” dijual dimenua pesisir. Aku meda jaku Menteri ngelalau trader bansa China anang nyual barang expired. Dua iti pekara ditu peda kitai. Ke-1, pilihan “anang meli” aba kitai empu. Ke-2, mayuh bansa Iban ke bisi wang pukuk tang enggai bedagang menua nya. Opportunity & difficulty nya two sides of the same coin (ha..ha..keni ku nyalin nya asuh jaku Iban?).

    3. Batang Randau kitai nya: “Teach us how to fish.” Saut iya endang 2-prong solution. Ke-1, kitai empu. Ke-2, endang ari executive and legislature (ie Perintah mih nya).

Dalam randau tu, kitai enda ulih ngubah pikir/polisi perintah, tang kitai ulih ngubah pikir kitai empu. Pengawa, juluk ati enggau tulang kitai tau ngadu, enda ibuh nganti, tauke ngarapke orang bukai.

    4. Pulai asuh experience aku empu. Chunto: Bisnis aku bisi nyual pintu. Kami meli pintu MD class C: RM120. Enti deka belaban enggau China, aku enda ulih, laban sida mayuh pukuk lalu ulih meri kredit. Dia aku ngena “value-added.” Tiap pintu datai, nembiak ngusuk sereta nyembur dataike bekilat. Udah nya, pintu tadi dijual rega RM320. Ari class C, nyadi class B, rega ditambah laban bisi value. Kedai2 China ngerimbai hairan ati keni aku ulih nyual 20-30 pintu sebulan. (Siti set Class C rega RM360, Double Door RM1,200).

Pulai asuh menua Sarawak: Bansa Iban ke bisnis selalu deka ngaga Resturan. Manah ga penemu nya, tang sekali aku tama “tandas.” Nyau ka engkual meda tandas, chukup bau. Kati nya “value-added” tauke “value-minus”?

Aku enda nemu “teori bisnis.” Utaike dikunsi aku nya pengelaman diri empu, penusah enggau penyamai disepi. Nurun pukul 7 pagi, pulai pukul 9 malam, enda ngira ujan panas. Bisi maya pedis, bisi maya rindu.

Ka kitai Iban nemu “how to fish”?

“Unggal Bunyau uji perati ka nuan jurai aku baruh tu pasal bisnes kitai Dayak. Iya ke manah tau diguna iya ke salah tau dibuai.

Ba aku tu sekeda utai ke penting nangul kitai Dayak ba Bines lalu ngasuh kitai tinggal ba pengawa dagang ari bangsa bukai.

    1. Kurang minat lalu kurang pecaya ka diri empu.
    2. Mabu runding enggau pengelaman ba bisnes.
    3. Kurang peluang enggau kemudahan diberi.
    4. Alah emba penanggul ba bisnes lalu alah dipekit orang.
    5. Social pengidup kitai Dayak ke bepun ari rumah panjai ke kurang ba pengawa bisnes.

Bisnes tu enda nyalah baka kitai ke sekola.

Alah kitai nya makai suap ngena jalai politik lain meh cherita. Nyadi ngena jalai tu ke selalu dipejurai ka kitai Dayak. Jalai muntang. Enda ibuh belajar, enda ibuh beperangsang pangan diri awak ke bisi minat.

Ajar aku ba jalai tu. Anang gagit ka jalai tu. Enti oleh peda oleh enti enda peda enda. Gaga ngena jalai ngelaung ka politik. Nyadi tu chara cina.

Kurang Minat. Enti 30 puluh tahun ke udah angka kitai tau nyebut kitai Dayak nadai minat ba business tang diatu maioh kitai Dayak minat ba business tang minat agi kurang, alah laban pengawa bukai, baka makai gaji.

Nambah ka nya nadai pecaya ka diri oleh ngereja pengawa bisnes laban meda nadai bangsa kitai diteladan, nyau bansa bukai magang-ngelingi kitai bisnes. Buai runding bakatu dulu enti ka bisnes. Anggap semoa orang nya orang bisnes baka tua nadai bisi bebansa lalu empu daya runding ba bisnes baka tua.

Nyadi penyakit kurang minat tu beguna ka orang merangsang kitai bedagang. Utai ke selalu meri perangsang ngagai kitai bedagang iyanya kitai bechuntoh ke bala kitai ke semak mujor ba pengawa dagang. Lalu kitai ke bukai nyamai nitih laban bisi orang diteladan ka kitai. Pengawa iya ke mujur pan udah nyadi siti perangsang kitai business lalu nyadi ka minat kitai business.

Peda kitai bala tua ba Batu Niah, nyau bekius idus aja beansak, beperangsang pangan diri ngebun sawit. Diatu sida merangsang bala sida sebelah Kuching, Simanggang enggau ke Kenawit. Enti sepuluh tahun ke udah kitai baka nya, rari ari lada enda ga udah nyamai diatu. Nya nama baru belabuh. Tang manah ga ari ke enda. Nya meh laban perangsang ngagai minat kitai lubah datai ba kitai Dayak.

    Contoh ke selalu dipeda kitai;

Indai Endu bejual betunu pala babi ba Pujut Corner Miri. Meda iya tak muntang endar boleh untong enggau puku k emit serta enggau pengawa ke muntang, bala sida sekaban lalu betitih nunda indai Endu.

Tuyang bangsa Kelabit baru pom lima ngaga lisen kontraktor klas F. Oleh meli rumah Semi D Double Storey lalu meli Prado sebuah. Anak menyadi Tuyang ke abis sekola ba UiTM lalu berunding deka nitih ka jalai aya iya Tuyang. Laban ba runding iya, enti aya iya Tuyang oleh tentu iya pan oleh ngereja pengawa bakanya lalu tau maju ari aya iya ketegal iya pandai agi.

Nyadi ba senentang minat, gerempong kitai Dayak enggau perintah kitai patut bekerja keras ka agi ngasur ka bala business. Beri target dalam tahun 2020, ambi enda kurang ari siko ari tiap rumah panjai asuh, atur lalu adu ke bedagang awak ke nyadi contoh lalu meransang orang rebak baru business.

Bala kitai Dayak pan patut berengkah ari diatu bedagang. Asuh anak nyual paku-keru enti sida ari rumah panjai. Asuh anak nyual kuih ke digaga kitai empu ba sida ke diau ba pasar. Anang kelalu mikir ka penguntung enggau pengerugi, labang kitai patut berunding ka agi pasal minat anak kitai nuju pengawa bedagang. Nyadi tu cara cina. Titih ka cara cina tu.

Nya dulu ila nyambung baru pasal no. 2-5.” Ko Mujap berandau enggau Bunyau ngemandaika diri pasal bisnes.

“Wah pama ga nuan unggal Mujap bejako pasal bisnes.Nadai aku kala ninga orang bejako munyi enggi nuan nya.” Ko Bunyau nyaut.

Appooo nama hal Dr Dusit nyau kena anu?

Since when anyone expects SDGA as anti Government?

  74. gkm2020 on August 3rd, 2011 9:29 pm

WORK SMART – MAKE THE RIGHT DECISION!

I support Dr Dusit Jaul’s decision in moving the SDGA forward objectively to achieve their Vision, Mission, Objectives and Goals.

If one chooses to remain ‘status quo’, they will remain stagnant, dying, hunger, underserved, underdeveloped and underprivileged.

    Scenario I:

During the ethnic conflicts, our forefathers were re-known “headhunters” fought fiercely against each rival tribes and ethnic clans (dead and wounded, beheaded and murdered, and almost lawless) and several years later they signed a peace treaty building this state and defending/protecting it against foreign enemies including the Japanese during WW II.

    Scenario II:

Yesterday our Iban Trackers and Sarawak Rangers (brave warriors) were employed and deployed to protect this homeland and Malaya against “Communist Insurgency” and many years later the “Communist” (mostly Chinese) laid down their weapons and surrendered. And now they worked together as friends (employees and employers, leader and subordinates, businessmen and clients) to build this state and nation forward progressively to become a developed country one day.

    Scenario III:

Same goes to “Dayak politics”, they fight the government, they join the government, they work with the government and they become the government. And from within they make policies to help their own peoples and/or constituencies.

    Scenario IV:

In business and/or development perspectives and other routines, some are against certain ‘government policy(s)’ and some seek government assistance (licenses, subsidies, budgets, permits, policing, education, medical health, welfare, etc) to protect, defend and improve their lives and well being.

SO WHAT SHOULD YOU DO WHEN YOU AT A “CROSSROAD” OR “DEAD END”?

    • If you can’t change, transformation is a choice.
    • If you can’t fight, cooperation is a choice.
    • If you can’t compete, strategic partnership is a choice.
    • If you can’t challenge them, compromise is a choice.
    • If you can’t lock them into confrontation, mutual relationship is a choice.
    • If you can’t win, peace is a choice.
    • If you can’t get rich, live moderately is a choice.
    • If you can’t lead, delegation or follower is a choice.
    • If you can’t protect/defend yourself or others, surrender to God is a choice.
    • If you can’t live, dead is a choice.

As leaders some time a decision is hard to swallow. A responsible leader captained his/her ship to reach their destination safely and successfully.

A decision maybe sickening to execute but what important is that everyone and/or the majority is safe by unforeseen circumstances. That’s leadership responsibility. Move on forward!

Many of us work very hard from early morning until late evening every day. We strive hard because we want to achieve great success.

However, no matter how much effort we put in, we don’t see any obvious progress or result.

When we look at our colleagues, they work in a relaxing manner but they obtain better results than us.

    • Is it really fair?
    • Are you facing the same problem currently?
    • Are you repeating the same negative growth model?
    • Are you upset and so upset that others have move forward progressively and you are still you?
    • Have you missed the bus of progression and prosperity?
    • Are you what you are and not what you are supposed to be?
    • Have you oversight and miscalculate your strategy?
    • Are you born in the opposite direction?
    • Do you have a choice to work your future from within and not confronting your obstacles?
    • Have you analyzed your obstacles yet?

You must be upset, sorrowed, saddened, depressed, stressed or maybe angrier. Let me just share with you some of my personal thoughts herein.

Seriously speaking, in whatever work you are doing, there are FIVE (5) questions you should always keep-in-mind:

    1. What is the mission?
    2. What is the objective? Or goal?
    3. What results do you want to get out of this?
    4. What are your sustainability strategies; short-term plan, your medium-term plan and your long-term plan?
    5. Why others live successfully and “I am not”; what is your personal SWOT?

Others have propel, prosper, enrich and successful because they are “SMART”.

Struggling hard and working hard are good but working “SMART” is a better choice!

“SMART” turns mission, objective, goals and tasks into concrete deliverables.

A “SMART” person knows how to create many possibilities because each possibility produces opportunity.

One possibility strike, the opportunity belongs to him/her. Many opportunities strike, he/she will be one among the most successful people or at par with others who have success before him/her.

“SMART” leader would never leave his/her followers behind and/or organization dying but lay as many possibilities and/or creativity as possible for ‘them’ to achieve success altogether.

“If Plan A failed, they go for Plan B, if Plan B failed, they for other plans until they achieve their specific mission, objective, goal and reality. That way, they are always remains “SMART”!

SDGA is a Non-Governmental Organization and it is not a political party or platform.

Move on Dr Dusit, I am with you. Do whatever is best for SDGA and the general Dayak graduates. Forget the politics. Cheers Madi!

    Thank you.

  75. CharcoalArt on August 3rd, 2011 10:39 pm

    GKM2020,

Also as far as I know SDGA members are made of Dayak graduates crossing political divides i.e. they are both from BN, Atas Pagar and opposition. Many years ago during SDGA convention in Santubong it was attended by Dayaks graduates irrespective of their political parties. It was a very rare occasion which could close enough to unite the Dayaks.

To attack people who are currently heading the organization just because they are not supporting one’s political ideology is a direct failure in understanding that there are other things and people beside yourself & politics!

    “Teach us how to fish”

Randau kitai apin mindah ari ngiga jalai endur kitai tau ngiga pengidup. Ari 6 tu kemari aku macha tulis Senator Dato Rahim, orangke ngempu valuer Rahim & Co. Iya sebanake tanah MRL (Malay Reserve Land) ke enda ulih dipaju. Ku iya, Melayu nadai “penemu” sereta nadai “pukuk wang” kena ngerunding majuke tanah MRL.

MRL (geran putih) agi mayuh. Tanah ditanam rian, temedak enggau buah bukai mulaike asil mina maya bebuah. Enti dibanding enggau rega tanah, asil ulih enda datai 2%. Nyadi Senator Dato Rahim minta (1) enactment ditukar/diubah perintah (2) swasta besaup ngemajuke tanah MRL.

Penusah disepi bansa Melayu jauh lain ari penusah kitai. Ke-1, tanah Melayu bisi Pala. Ke-2, Dato Rahim ke bejaku tu “enda dianu,” tauke dikelai orang “ngelaban perintah.” Ke-3, penemu iya tu engka dikena orang pegila lusa.

Munyi ku sara aku kemari, nulong bansa Dayak begunake “2-prong” solution. Kemari aku nyebut pasal “kitai empu.”

Tulung “ari perintah” (executive & legislature) digiga amat. Ke-1 kamike meri penemu ukai pangkat Senator, tang ukai reti kami tu ngelaban perintah. Sema’ orang perintah bisi penemu manah agi, kami endang gaga. Nya sigi dikarapke kami amat.

Kedua, legal framework endur ngereja “modal tanah Dayak” mesti bisi. Ari legal framework, kitai ulih ngaga surat JV, Development tauke jual terus. Ari JV tauke Development, asil mesti dipeda. Aba penemu aku, asil mesti enda kurang ari “Government long-term bond rate” 3.75% setaun. Enti rega tanah enggau JV nya RM100,000, asil setaun enda kurang ari RM3,750. Enti tanah nya semak rumah panjai, semak jalai, asil iya patut semak agi enggau ASB 8% setaun, tauke RM8,000.

Enti asil enda datai 3.75% (purata) dalam 15 taun, tanah tadi enda beasil. Orang ke ngempu tanah nadai berubah pengidup.

Ketiga, infrastructure mesti bisi. Kos ngaga infrastructure sigi mar. Dayak “ukai minta.” Tang Dayak meda menua bukai di Malaysia, jalai bisi, api bisi, ai bisi. Kitai enda ibuh manding Putra Jaya, tauke MRT RM7 billion baru nya, tang basic amenities dimenua Dayak mesti bisi. Laban ngaga nya begunake kos. Bansa Dayak ditemu nadai duit. Enti ngaga infra kediri empu, Dayak endang baka orang “labuh dipanggung lesung, aruk dipukung alung.”

Munyi sara aku kemari, “teach us how to fish” mesti bisi tulang dibantai. Tang ari perintah, jalai nulungke betul digiga amat.

    Nya aja.

Don’t get me wrong. I m not against a move by SDGA to have an audience with Jvoo. In fact, SDGA should make close relationship to any ministers, the King, any world leaders, any association, any organization (except Perkasa), any men, any women, any children of the world. More friends & contact the better.

The SDGA Muslim members (if any) should take advantage of yr pahala and request for audience with Saudi King- ask for donation. If the president got the gut to meet Donald Trump, Bill Gates and any the rich & famous personalities in the world.

SMART LEADERS USED SMART APPROACH TO ACHIEVE RESULTS!

True leaders are result orientated individuals who either lead a team or an organization efficiently, progressively, innovatively and productively. As a leader your main role is to deliver results!

When you deliver results, your team and your organization benefits, and you personally benefit!

Smart leaders take smart approach to produce result. So what approach are you taking now?

“SMART” is of talked about in terms of goal setting but the “SMART approach” is about the things effective leaders do to produce and achieve results.

So what are these SMART things all about?

    STRATEGY

“S” in the SMART approach is about “Strategy”.

    • What does strategy mean to you?
    • What are your strategic plans?
    • How do you compose your strategy?
    • Have you consider; 1) Leadership & Corporate Management Strategy, 2) Executive Management & Communications Strategy, 3) Risk Management Strategy, 4) Financial & Investment Strategy, 5) Network & Marketing Strategy, 6) Economic Planning & Development Strategy, 7) Management Wins and Win-Win Strategy and so on?

Leaders work with their teams and/or “Executives” to develop a compelling vision for their organization, get people to buy in and develop the strategies to realize that vision.

They focus not just on the short-term goal but on the medium-to-long term goals. The focus is on sustainable and lasting success.

    MEASUREMENT

“M” in the SMART approach is about measurement.

    • How do you measure your organization key performance indicator (KPI)?
    • How do you measure your goals?
    • What result you want to achieve; 1) measure what your team or people/members say is important, 2) measure areas where there are problems you’d like to solve, and 3) measure the organization objectives you are aiming to achieve?

Measurement herein is used to quantify the performance of some component of an organization.

There are three types of performance measures: key result indicators, performance indicators, and key performance indicators.

If an organization (SDGA or others) is to move from vision, ideas and possibilities to results, it needs to take action.

Some of those actions will be a success (if not all), others might work out differently than expected, and some might not work out at all. Failure(s) is part of learning process.

Measurement is the way of determining whether you are on and/or off track or focus and/or oversight and whether you need to make adjustments and maybe diversification or improvisation.

    Unggal CharcoalArt,

Going fishing for more knowledge like participating in “Property Investment Convention Kuala Lumpur 2011″ is the way forward for Dayak not just politicking. That’s the SMART approach!

I personally believe to propel and prosper in life, one has to get themselves involve in multiple SMART approaches specially in “WHOM” knowledge strategies; Know WHO, Know HOW, Know OPPORTUNITY and Know MARKET.

Sorry madek…I have been booked with couple of meetings on our latest “Light Emitting Plasma (LEP” technology (better than LEP and brighter too) and other prospects in Malaysia and outside.

Maybe I will add into your topic later “Property Investment Prospect”; just for DB knowledge “Teach Us To Fish”…hehehehe…

    Cheers!

  90. CharcoalArt on August 5th, 2011 9:19 am

Unggal GKM, catch up with you later on the topic then. Anyway, I like the “WHOM” knowledge strategies!

  91. gkm2020 on August 5th, 2011 9:35 am

    Sorry Typo Error,

“Lighting Emitting Plasma (LEP)” better than LED and our is even brighter too (green lighting – white daylight; cost saving, high lumen & long lifespan of 50,000 hrs) excellent for outdoor lighting and industrial lighting; Car Park, Stadium, Billboard, Ports, Airports, Aircraft Hangar, Offshore Platform & Refinery Plant, Highway & Street Lighting, Warehouse and Mall.

    Info

  92. gkm2020 on August 5th, 2011 10:23 am

    Unggal Ibanlama,

I agree with your comment on “followers”. There is no great leader without followers. There is no general without an army. Great followers are great leaders too!

How many of us around the world want to lead…would like to be in the front of the line? But, many of us never want to follow first.

    • “Ngelak ka ohang dulu meh….”
    • “Ngelak sida dulu meh….”
    • “Kita ka pandai nemu agi ngatur…”

Following someone’s lead first will always produce excellent leadership qualities and skills.

Being a follower is always the most crucial time in one’s life especially if they are one who wants to be a manager, supervisor, business owner or leader of a group or council of leaders or YB.

There is an old proverb that states, “What is on the teacher should be transferred upon the student”….

The student acts as the follower with the training courses that is being taught to him or her.

The student is a type of follower…learning, growing and getting fed the proper knowledge given by his teacher.

The teacher/lecturer is a type of leader…that exerts information, knowledge, mentorship and coaching to help the student become a better leader and more knowledgeable person.

Government leaders for instance, such as our PM/CM/MB, governors, politicians, city mayors and other leader-in-chiefs did not just jump into their rightful places of leadership without not learning how to sit under other government leaders that fed them civil wisdom.

To me, “Leadership” is just as an important role to be in as the follower.

How of us are good follower of Christ?

Nobody would admit that he’s the follower of christ or christianity, it lies in the heart and mind of that particular person, religion is supposed to be free of any threat/or being forced into believing.

Anyway, I do go to church for Sunday mass regularly. But going to church does not mean that we are no sinners? As we all know, We are answerable to the supreme power in this universe on his second coming. We are liability to GOD!

    GKM2020,

Udah unggal, akai berentak 2 hari ba property investment convection. I met one Iban lady there, she recognised me, so she approached me to say hello. May be there were more Dayaks attending, the crowd was too big to find out – about 1,500 people filled up the hall to the brim.

Looking at the faces around, it is quite safe to say that 90% of the attendees are Malaysian chinese. There are people from Hongkong, Japan, Singapore as well. I believe mostly are property investors but there are few young people and couples. I brought along my wife so that she could learn together (I don’t have to convince her should I wish to invest in future hehehe). At least 4 of my working colleages were attending as well.

Many topics attracted my interest plus many awesome and very knowledgeable speakers. I have had learnt new things and improved my mindsets as well. The convention reinforced my outlooks on properties investment and I feel I am quite ready to move on to the next level.

I am amazed to learn that people become properties millionaires as young as 27. Better late than never for older folks, I guess :) .

Milan Doshi for instance, has a total of RM15.0 million good debts (loans)and he teaches how smart investors should view loans.

By the show of hands, we could see so many people have more than 3 properties.

Among topics which have got my ears tuned up were:

    - REITS
    - Buy, Hold, Re-finance or Bubble?
    - Properties price indices
    - Buy properties with no money down
    - Greater Kuala Lumpur and the future
    - Vision 2020, where we are in term of pricing
    - Future MRT, High speed train, etc.
    - Which area? What type?

    The speakers were awesone.

I have had learnt new things and improved my mindsets as well. The convention reinforced my outlooks on properties investment and I feel I am quite ready to move to the next level.

I am unable to share all in details here but suffice to say that I highly recommend such seminar to member of Dayak Baru professionals and investors. I believe such knowledge is a good part of financial education where the earlier you get it the better your future direction is going to be.

    Cheers

    Unggal CharcoalArt,

Well done ngal, that’s one possibility to move forward.

It’s never too late to learn and/or work on leveraging your personal income revenue.

SO WHAT IS REAL ESTATE INVESTMENT (RSI)?

“RSI” is real estate purchased (usually commercial or residential properties) aimed to generates income or is otherwise intended for investment purposes; renting it, selling at a higher price, or using for almost any purpose other than using it as a residence include apartment buildings, second houses and leasing of land for car park/ car wash/ car show house and others.

Example, if you are a landlord, you have the ability to manipulate rents based on changing market conditions in order to maximize income.

Just to share with you through my little experience and personal analysis. There are some of the Pros and Cons of real estate investing in the current market.

The PROS AND CONS OF REAL ESTATE INVESTMENT:

    PROS

    1. Investing in rental properties can provide a monthly income:

Real estate investors who want to obtain a little extra money every month will find that investing in rental properties can satisfy this goal.

Many people were hit hard by the financial and/or economic crisis, and as such there are many people who need housing who do not have the ability to obtain a mortgage.

    2. A house offers people an appreciating asset:

In the event it’s true that the housing market is about to turn around, people who purchase a property now will be buying an appreciating asset that they will be able to sell for a greater amount in the future.

Anyone who has the ability to wait until housing prices increase before selling has the potential to earn a large profit.

    3. The real estate market is less risky than the stock market:

People who have extra money to invest maybe wary of putting it into the stock market because of the market’s volatility in recent years (also analyze the regional and global economic environments).

Placing money in real estate avoids the stress of the daily ups and downs that are inherent in the stock market.

Thus, real estate is a more predicable investment asset.

    CONS

    1. The risk of default:

The economy is expected to improve, but this doesn’t necessarily have to be the case; it can also remain where it is or even get worse.

If that were to happen and investors lose their ability to make a living, they may not be able to afford the mortgage on their rental properties.

    2. Owning rental property increases the amount of work:

People who own rental properties are called landlords and they have expectations that they have to meet.

When things break down on the property, they will be expected to fix them.

They will also have increased liability; accidents can happen on the property and the tenants or their guests may decide to sue.

To protect against this actuality, rock-solid insurance is an absolute must.

    3. The risk of not receiving the amount of rental income expected:

People who seek to rent their properties may expect to be able to charge a particular amount of rent, but sometimes they might not be able to collect the amount expected.

Anyone who is not willing to take this risk may not see real estate investing as a viable option.

    LASTLY

The bottom line is that investing in real estate or “RSI” can provide a steady income, but it is not without risk.

To overcome risk is to manage risk and understand its potential.

Don’t throw and/or dump everything into one basket, safe some for your rainy days.

Diversification is good but focus on what you know best.

Therefore, careful planning is needed before making a decision one way or the other.

    NOTES: “GLOBAL ECONOMIC CATASTROPHE”

    • USA is in debt of US$14.5 Trillions.
    • S&P downgrade US credit rating from AAA to AA+
    • Several EU countries and Russia are significant holders of U.S. debt
    • China is forced to buy US bonds to keep the Yuan down in order to be able to continue exporting but is not happy and like Germany in the Eurozone is calling for “more oversight of the dollar”.
    • U.S. Dollar in danger of an imminent collapse: The pressure to replace the dollar as the global reserve currency for trade purposes is growing again. China and now Russia are saying it is not sustainable. Putin has called the dollar a “parasite” on the global economy.
    • Watch out for “global economic collapse”, “new global currency”, “new monetary system” and incoming “wars”.
    • JP Morgan and HSBC bank will go bankrupt???
    • Gold and silver stable and remain strong.

    Thank you

    Ngal gkm…

….maybe the Dayak enterprenur must collaborate with the Kampung folks, establish rapport with the Ketua Kaum on Business and economy. We Dayaks must be willing to leap forward and design some kind of ‘Blueprint’ for the long term and sustainable economy for the benefit of our anakbiaks in future.
Dayak must be very willing to acquire the ‘Know-How’, expertise …….FAST, for future survival.

The trend of economy now is quite worrying, the Cina and Lauts are busy grabbing the Dayaks lands at a cheap price. And these wealthy individuals towkays will utilised the lands with big projects.
In the long run, we are at the loosing end, eventually they will invade us/our lands…for sure, in the near future. Rest assured, the Dayak Rebellion/Jihad/on economy must start.

What can we do….? I’m furious, am not happy!
    It’s your say…..Deebees!

Greetings to Unggal GKM 2020, Unggal Seliong, Unggal Iban Abroad and the rest of DBs who are tuned to “learning how to fish”

To start with I have Milan Doshi and Ho Chin Soon become my Facebook friends. Of course I am a complete stranger to both but after reading their books and listening to them as speakers it is quite motivating and I feel as if I know them. If someone is to say that I sound very enthusiastic in properties, he is right. I realise that I have such a drive, if not I won’t bother to read books and attending seminars.

I have gone through a few economic crisis where stock market crashed, one in 1998 and the other in 2008. I kicked myself for not buying blue chips at such times when shares were cheap. So, now that the Dow Jones is quite interested to go down, I say go lah! If Bursa wants to dive to the bottom, sorry to vested parties, but for me, go ahead, I am ready for you.

However, I noticed that in both financial crises the properties prices although went down a bit you would hardly able to find any properties went down below developer prices. It’s so ironic that when everything else goes down, property’s value remains intact. If this had happened in 2 major economic crises, I believe chance is it would be not much of a worry next time around. I think that’s the beauty of properties investment, it goes up but it won’t likely to come down.

How about properties bubble? In Malaysia, almost everyone unanimously think there is no such a thing. Malaysia is having the lowest properties price in the region (although I am told 2nd only to Indonesia. If the price in KLCC district can be anything between RM700 to RM2800 per sq.ft, much of it is due to land cost. With pricing of raw materials and services all go up, how can we expect it would be bubble when the prices are driven mostly by cost! Can land price go down? Can service and people salary go down? Cannot lah.

Another argument is greater KL and vision 2020. To be a developed country the Government has to pump money and develop but first starting with its capital city Kuala Lumpur. How can KL be undeveloped in 2020? That just doesn’t make sense. When the attraction and infrastructure keep on getting better, the road, the parks, and facades get improved, property values in KL will be enhanced. Thus the price of property in KL now cannot be cheaper in 2020!

Funnily the properties which jump in price by 260% since the last 10 years are found in Tawau! KL ranked 2nd in properties pricing index with about 180% or so. Sarawak is about 140%… this is from my memory only lah. You could correct me using google!

If you notice also, when inflation goes up, our money purchasing power goes down! On the other hand properties investment simply loves inflation. The higher the inflation is the higher would be the value of your properties. Such a fantastic situation!

I certainly encourage DBs especially those younger ones who have just start your career and life long journey. You should find out and educate yourself on properties investment as early as possible.

When you learn as an older man, there is bad and good. Bad it is because we feel that we have missed out a lot and pretty much learned through own mistakes. Good, I think, it is easier to differentiate the trees from the woods with more matured brains. But learning is a life time process, thus we should be open to ideas and suggestions so that we are willing to learn more.
If we have set our goals, perhaps the desire to learn would be much higher. When the curiosity is so intense we would wish to know more and more. We would be thirsty for knowledge. Setting the goal to be properties millionaire is one such goal.

I am quite convinced that property investment is one of the best ways toward becoming millionaire. If we look at top 10 billionaires in the world, they all have one thing in common i.e. each of them own lots and lots of properties. So we should just do it, like Richard Branson said “screw it, let’s do it!” On personal basis, for this one I walk the talk by continuously investing, so not just NATO hehehe.

    GOLD STREET NEWS

The gold price has gone up rapidly for the past few weeks.

On 4th August, the price hit USD1,663.50 per ounce, or RM159 per gram

It was a 6% increase compared to the time when
gold price just exceeded USD1,600 on 18th July, 2011.

The hike happened when ratings agency Standard & Poor’s downgraded the U.S. from AAA to AA+.

Furthermore, IMF stated that federal banks in
Thailand, Russia and Kazakhstan have been
    ramping up gold holdings lately.

Besides that, South Korea bought gold for the first time after 10 years without doing so. The Bank of Korea said in a statement its latest gold purchase was valued at $1.24 billion.

When countries are buying more gold, I think
it is worth your time to look into this gold party…

Before you do that, be prepared and get the knowledge necessary before putting down your hard earned money.

    N’gal gkm2020,

    Yeah, you are right!

The price of gold has increased tremendously in the last few days.

A good number of people have gone to purchase some gold.

Quite a few of my friends have come to open a Gold account at their local bank.

Going by the tend it goes during the last few days, gold price will certainly be on the increase.

Therefore, please take advantage of this price movement.

    Cheers…

One may have tonnes of gold but what’s the point if you are arrested and placed in the lock-up for attending MoCS illegal rally this Saturday.

    Nya aja kaban.

  113. gkm2020 on August 12th, 2011 5:10 pm

    iban samarahan,

    You are right ngal!

One may have tonnes of gold/diamond or billions of money and/or having big mansion and multi-million dollars of assets in overseas but what’s the point if you are dead buried in a 6 feet hole dress with few ringgits cost of “white kain kapan” and left a young and beautiful wife behind?

    Nya aja kaban.

  114. William Sunny on August 12th, 2011 5:56 pm

Yep…Iban Samarahan is right, friend gkm. That’s why uban doesn’t want to follow the group, friend IS. He wants to enjoy tonnes of his golden money while enjoying his young wife. So, to the demonstrators…don’t follow Francis Siah even if you have just a few ringgit left.

  115. CharcoalArt on August 13th, 2011 9:36 am

GKM, kada nemu utai ko nuan unggal IS nya. hehe

  116. William Sunny on August 13th, 2011 11:54 am

Guess some of us here are thinking outside the box like Iban Samarahan.

  117. Cikgu Iban on August 13th, 2011 3:30 pm

This bloke is really thinking outside the box that he can be considered as a paranoid.

He has really thought outside the box that the Ibans in Samarahan now have lost their lands.

Many have become landless and squatters in the land which once was theirs.

    Cheers…

  118. William Sunny on August 13th, 2011 4:15 pm

I guess IS is aware that there some ibans there who are millionaires by now after their lands were taken away. I think, unlike my great grandparents, their great ancestors were thinking outside the box when they started to clear the land hundred of years ago. Now, many of their generations are millionaires. Perhaps, IS can enlighten us.

    Kaban

I suggested in the latest article by Dr JBA for Dayaks together to set up a special-purpose Dayak-owned training centre to prepare those school leavers to jump start their life ie. to teach them to fish after given a bit of good baits. What do you guys think?
