Bad Mouthing and Dayak Genocide

Written by: Dr. John Brian Anthony

Bad mouthing or is it the truth that has been said inside this blog by so many of us who share our thought . It depends on where you stand politically.

The situation today

BN representatives (YB) says they represent the people views and concern. But then it clearly shows that the YB represent the interest of the party more then those who elect them. The YBs use their elected position to subdue the people whose opinion differ from them. Tuai Rumah ( community leader ) elected by the long house are dismiss from their role IF and WHEN they support the opposition. Whose idea is this dismissal? Is it the elected Government or is it the Government department. Is the TR allowance part of a scheme to impose “Dayak Genocide” by the Dayak leaders themselves?

If TR are put in such a position then they become captives and political prisoners of UMNO Agenda through local Dayak based party. The Community leader became a “political tool” of BN UMNO Agenda. Who says that BN is not a national party and BN has an agenda to carry out Dayak genocide, political, economically and socially.

BN leaders encourage Dayak Dictatorship style

Let us talk about Dayak in BN. No Dayak can give the YB feedback that they do not like to hear.If they hear anything that they do not like they quickly label you as “opposition” etc. In this instance, Puzzleman used the word “badmouthing”. Most BN Dayak feel that they are superior to other Dayak and that the opinion of Dayak who do not hold party position are dismiss as “tin kosong” and “ngerichau”. Where is our self respect for the opinion of our own people?

Certain Dayak YB brutally criticize those Dayak that express difference of opinion and even isolate them as being “anti-development”. Who would be against development if the development bring benefits to every body, enrich everyone and even respect the rights of the community. In oil palm JV, who benefit the most and who loss the most?

Any opinion that is different from the BN Dayak YB is condemn and the person who spoke of the concern is also condemn. Are we sure that we have the right thinking function to jump into such conclusion.

A grandfather of mine say this to me one day ” Uchu, nama kebuah nyau deka semua kitai sebilik ke tinggi pelajar enda setuju enggau penemu perintah? Enda patut kita tu salah penemu magang2 laban sekula kita enda sama endur lalu pia mega pemandai ke di ambi kita enda sebaka?”

I am sure readers are capable of making their own opinion on what I have written about certain Dayak leaders. What solution are these BN Dayak leaders talking about when what they do is “killing” their own people through oil palm JV, keeping quiet with issues on land rights etc.

Is there any integrity left among our Dayak BN leaders?

Today I call into question the “integrity” of Dayak’s leadership in BN in fighting for the rights and the future development of Dayak. I accuse the BN Dayak leadership of being more interested in getting rich by selling their soul to BN agenda of ensuring “UMNO Agenda” rule supreme in Sarawak. It does not matter even if “Dayak political and social genocide” happen as long as the few Dayak BN leaders survive.

Conclusion

The question posted on why should we trust DAP is just as relevant as why should we trust BN? DAP has not become the Government in Sarawak. But BN has been the government with local party as its component and yet BN has fail to deliver the basic needs of Dayak. Poor amenities, poor educational result, lack in economic activities, lack of objective and purpose and many more. All this demand that we change our support from BN to PR. We say “UBAH meh”.

If what I say is true and it is difficult for BN Dayak to accept so be it. We who have difference in opinion with BN has no access to the mass media. RTM (Radio Taib Mahmud) as Dr. James used to say is full of white lies. So we listen to Radio Free Sarawak who tell us that life is so tough under BN. What we want to say never got publish in the news print media so this electronic blog is our alternative. Even then I have few hundred “spam” everyday sent by BN to destroy this web site. I patiently delete the spam and thanks to those e-defence program.

Why is BN so bent to erase our voice? Why did they not want to hear opinion that is different from theirs. It only goes to show that BN has many thing to hide. They do not want the people to know their mistakes, their wrong doing, their personal enrichment, their poor performance in working for the people and most of all they think that they are now GOD!

Change WE Must.

When a Deputy Minister (in PM’s Department from Johor) bad-mouth Christians during the recent UMNO assembly, “puzzleman” was silent. So I am not so interested in answering him because he is probably one of Cyber troupers paid to do a job. Inconsistency is always their trademark.

Promise of “development” differs. In Menua Dayak, development is atap zing, a wooden bridge, water tanks. In Menua Malaya, Prime Minister allocated RM400 million to upgrade water supply to Felda. Prime Minsiter also allocated RM300million to the Nelayan. These two allocations are documented in the last budget.

This shows importance of Felda/Nelayan vis-a-vis Dayaks in Sarawak and Sabah. While we still depend in rain water and muddy rivers, others are given allocation for an “upgrade” to an existing water supply system. After given subsidised loans for boats, fishermen are given RM300 million to built and “upgrade” homes.

All we hear within these 48 years within Malaysia is the billions of Ringgit spent to “upgrade” Malayan homes, Malayan Roads, Malayan infrastructures. People like “puzzleman” are trapped within his jaundiced sense of fairness.

If speaking out the truth is “badmouth,” then let us speak “untruth,” telling lies to one another and teach our children to lie as well. ”Puzzleman” must think of this quote:

“Of all the atrocious lies I told others, nothing compare to the lie I told myself.”

    What?

Dayak genocide is about to taken taken now?

Who has committed such a thing? Dr JBA or our Dayak Iban leaders in BN government?

Badmouthing others! I suppose there is no such thing as that. In fact, it is quite the opposite.

Any other BN leaders have badmouthed the people who have different views. Yeah, promises after promises are made to deceive the Ibans. They have got so much wealth by raping all the Dayak Iban lands, well almost!

    To all Kaban DBs
Puzzle man is a man from outer space. In their world, telling lies for the sake of
“good mouthing” is the greatest honor bestowed. Corruption should not be voiced out for the sake of “good mouthing”.
Speaking against the unfairness to Sarawkian and Dayak in particular is totally wrong in the world of puzzleman as he must “good mouthing” his BN and UMNO master at all cost. It is his bread and butter.

  5. Cikgu Iban on February 23rd, 2012 6:35 am

Goodmouthing the BN is the order of the day.

If we do not say something good about the State BN government, we are considered the opposite.

If we do not say something nice about the Dayak Iban leaders in the State government, then we are grouped as anti-establishment.

If we do not voice out the government issues drawn up and implemented against the Dayak Iban interests, then who else is going to do so for we know quite well that the Dayak Iban leaders in the State BN government are more inclined to protect their own self-interests rather than the interests of the Iban community. They are too scared to talk about the Iban concern. They are afraid of losing their seats because, as often happened to those a few which had decided to truly talk for the Ibans, they have been put into a coldstorage. There many examples of this.

Yea, you may ask the group of current elected Opposition ADUN about who had asked a lot of questions about issues affecting the Ibans in the recent ADUN sitting a few months ago. The words on the ground have been that the Opposition ADUNs have been approached by a few Ibans YBs from the BN to raise up Dayak Iban issues.

Now, the obvious thing here is that the BN IBAN ADUNs really have been firmly under the control of their master that they have been elected for nothing other than making up the numbers so that it looks nice in the eye of the public. This has been going one for the last 30 years or so. We have been deceived not only by own Iban leaders in the BN but also the leaders of other community. Other leaders are fully aware that the Iban leaders are so submissive to the extent of being incapable in contributing something in drawing government policies even though such policies are clearly a robbery of the Dayak Iban wealth.

Therefore, who would want to goodmouth the Iban leaders who seem incapable to speak for our community?

Tin Kosong we might sound today but many are holding on to a hope that one day, the BN knows that the day is not always bright. The star is not always shining. The world can change for a better and the 73 year old bloke might live us forever very soon.

Tin Kosong we might sound today because we are not having the privileges of using the government funds and facilities to counter your argument.
Had the BN government allowed for open and clear stand of one’s political affiliation in our country whereby even business entities are allowed to provide funds to support the Opposition without being condemned for the stand, then elections can be a bit fair.

Had the BN government been merciful enough to allow certain government Halls to be used by the Opposition to hold an assembly just like what the BN politicians do, then the fight could be more just.

Sadly, In Malaysia these things are never allowed. Our Freedom of Press is now ranked at 122 in the world.

Whatever it is, most would not want to badmouth anybody had the interests of great concern to the Iban community have been properly managed by our crop of Iban political leaders. Goodmouth the Iban leaders would certainly be the order of the day, had our Iban leaders been performing up to the expectation of the Ibans.

    Cheers…

If we take the survey by UN in “Cobbold Commission Report”, a survey to find out view and opinion of people in Sarawak whether they wanted Malaysia, a very high percentage of above 60% expressed “I don’t know”. This is due to illeteracy among the rural folks then was very high. Yet Malaysia was formed, and was mainly due to the fear of communist resurgency at that time, and that after WW II Britain that had devastated financially by that war was not able to main Sarawak its colony any longer. To the British it was a “goob-bye, good riddance” after they had made huge profits from Sarawak for over a 100 years.

The other thing worth noting in this is the fact that immediately after Malaysia had come into being many rural people were very much under the influence of then SUPP. I believe that was due to the “relationship-by-trading”. Rural people saw that most shopkeepers were supporting SUPP. While they also noted that quite a number of local chinese had supported the leftish/communist sympathisers. Many had also gone to jungle. And couple with the fact that Sarawak and Sabah do share a common border with Indonesia whcih then was under Soekarno and his team. We were then told by the government mass media to support government of Malaysia to prevent the State falling into communist control or over-run by Indonesia. The rural people were told not to think but to follow. Community leaders were told to look after their anak-biaks and not to allow them to support the leftish/communist ideas or even to even think of separation from Malaysia for Sarawak simply cannot look after itself in the hostile world.

In the first and last local council elections preceding Malaysia SUPP gained seats in urban/suburban seats. And in the first general elections that followed SUPP displayed a similar pattern of victories. It won even rural areas like Bau/Lundu, Padawan and Serian. This led to Rahman Yaakub bringing in SUPP as a Coalition Partners after 1970 GE.

The above narrative, a digression of sort, can give the underlying reasons why the Dayaks are so scared of the government. Of course we must not forget they see there are Dayak Leaders in the present government. They would not understand why would anybody want to change it by another Dayak leader. The prevalence of illeteracy in the rural areas coupled with the lack of free flow of information beside the one-sided view as presented by the mass media under government control, all has made it almost impossible to win over the rural voters. hence BN says Sarawak is BN deposit. Ultimately of course the rural people will suffer. This country will be for the benefit of only a small segment of the population which has known of the state of things as per in the above narrative, and has devised a strategy to enhance their perpetual control i.e. by keeping the rural people remain poor and uneducated. Maybe for the next thousand years.

While Puzzleman accused me of living in Afghanistan, I doubt very much if he travels extensively in Malaya. Or that he knows the living conditions of the “Ketuanan?”

    1. Right from “top to bottom,” from clergy to laity, from Ministers to sweepers, “Ketuanan” is the core issue. Many Malays are NOT happy with this emphasise that they support PR. Supporting PR is not related to Anwar Ibrahim; to them, UMNO emphasis on “Ketuanan” is just too much. As I said earlier, Malays are some of the nicest people you can find in the world – it is UMNO that turns them into greedy, racist bigots.

    2. UMNO selective prosecution is unfair. Teo Beng Hock was called in an investigation for RM2,400 suspected embezzlement by his boss. Yet UMNO refrains from prosecuting clear-cut cases of kickbacks, commissions and blatant corruptions. One case of money laundering by a Menteri Besar was not prosecuted. UMNO has lost its moral sense.

    3. Malayan amenities are “world class,” though they espoused “third world mentality.” By comparison, Sarawak and Sabah amenities and infrastructure belongs to the 60’s. In Sabah, STAR 23/2/12 (page 24) reported Rickson Dunsul’s 20 km trek to school everyday until he just gave up. That is not an isolated case as such cases are found in other places in Sabah and Sarawak.

I have more cases to mention but the point is: we are the reason why UMNO is such a bigot party. We give them support. We allow their hegemony. We are the ones who gave POWER to UMNO.

The tentacles of UMNO has crossed to Sabah; what good have they brought to Sabahan? From what we know, in 1980, Sabah population was 800,000. With the infamous I/C project, Sabah’s population soared to 3,800,000 today. The Kadazans who used to be the majority is now powerless. Yet Sabah is entrenched as the poorest state in Malaysia, despite it abundant resources. That is UMNO’s hegemony.

UMNO is already in Sarawak. Today our population is 2.6 million. Dayak is the majority, followed by Chinese. But with the proposed import of 2 million semi-skilled workers, will this balance remain? Already, we see most workers in SCORE are imported.

A Dayak support to PRS and SPDP is a direct support to UMNO. The word “genocide” may be too strong, but Dayaks must extrapolate 5 years, 10 years and 20 years down the road. By the way UMNO and its “little napoleons” treat us today, Dayak’s demise may not wait for 20 years.

A very sad Shakespeare quote for Sarawak and Sabah:
“O nation miserable, With an untitled tyrant bloody scepter’d, When shall thee see thy wholesome days again…” (Macbeth)

    Dear Dr John Brian,

I somehow agree with Puzzleman’s comments and respect his personal opinion as much I respect yours and others here in this weblog.

“The way we communicate with others and with ourselves ultimately determines the quality of our lives.” – Anthony Robbins

If our self-talk is kind and loving, then chances are we can be kind and loving to others. If we fail to assert ourselves repeatedly, however, we will know this about ourselves and we will start to badmouth ourselves.

Ones should learn how to accept others for what and who they are and what they believe. Do not try to change them. Your efforts to “Change We Must” or change others will lead to negative thoughts. The only person you can change is yourself. So, focus your efforts on that task. And try to avoid clash of wills and conflict. This leads to negative thoughts and negative thought patterns.

“Badmouthing” your “formers” (PBB-BN, SNAP, PKR….) is a very political career leadership limiting move. Are you better off than them or merely equivalent or worse? It will get around that you are badmouthing the “formers”, and new prospective “political partners” will simply wonder if they are next on the list…

As you post, ask yourself if you would want to “seek political sympathy” or “seeking political justice” with someone posting as you are. Meaning if you choose to use “slandering words”, “defamation words”, “instigating articles” or “Kutuk-Mengutuk”, do you think that will help or hurt your political career?

If you choose to complain, do you think that will help or hurt you? If you don’t proof your walk-the-talk and there are errors, do you think that help or hurt you?

The first thing you need to do is be careful of what you say or written. Everyone has had their own “situations”. No human is born perfect and without sins. Or is there any perfect politics or government and without corruption?

And for whatever reasons best known to you why and how you ‘lost’ in Kemena and Meluan? Have you words touched the voters’ heart, trust and faith?

You should never badmouth anyone no matter who they are or even when you are just getting to know people. It’s important that the “voters” want to know you as a kind, honest and sincere politician/leader. Are you sure you are? Have you mirrored yourself?

If you always badmouth others then they will think that you are doing exactly the same to anyone behind their back. Why not inspire others and give them direction or provide solution for others? But then again what would a voter think of a leader with “badmouth”?

We all hope “DB” does not carry a new meaning for “Dr Badmouth”.

I have no personal agenda, and don’t need millions of ringgit.

When Dayaks cry, I feel sad. When Dayaks suffer, I feel the pain. When Dayak Land is robbed, I get very angry because NO ONE speaks for them. When Dayak students denied financial support, I am sad again.

And when I bath in muddy river in my kampung, I am reminded of who is behind all of these difficulties.

Why do the State government of Sarawak tamper with the age old tradition of the Iban in choosing or appointing their Tuai Rumah? The reason of government appointed Tuai Rumah certainly,is none other than to RUPTURE the fabric of Iban society at the very root of Iban way of life. It is a strategy of the present state Barisan National government and/the wishes of the national Barisan government to weaken the Dayaks and the aim is primarily towards the largest Dayak group the Iban. Though this government appointed longhouse chiefs also involved the other Dayak group-it is just a camouflage so that the government appointment of Tuai Rumah is seen to be
as not selective but the real target is the Iban, being the largest group. On the whole, the entire Dayak society are at the whims and fancies of these corrupted system.

We Iban must take this issue seriously as it affects the fabric of our culture and tradition. This is the killer blow to the Dayak sovereignty of their culture and traditions, a genocidal policy toward the Dayak which must be reversed.

BN Appointment of TRs is a Fatal Blow.

It does not restrict the impact in rupturing the very fabric of the Iban society, culture and tradition but also the Natives Court system of our people.

In most instances, these Bn appointed TRs, Penghulu and\or Pemancha are selected and appointed based on submission towards supporting the BN government.

It means whatever the BN government introduces as policies, the community Iban leaders, appointed by the BN government, ought to be supported even though such policies are detrimental towards the Ibans themselves.

These leaders are helpless in defending the rights of the society as more often than not, they dare not voice the interest of the society as it means recalcitrance. As a result, their allowance and certificates of appointment which has been deliberately drawn up subject to yearly renewal.

This in turn will make it is easier for the BN YBs to suggest to the the relevant government officer to terminate their service for failure to support the BN.

    Is this a fair tactic?

I am not quite PUZZLEDman to think about it. Only the i@@@ts who eat the crumbs of their BN masters will remain puzzled.

Having said that, some TRs are not easily submissive to the need of the BN YBs. I know one TR who says that, without or without that RM450.00 monthly allowance, he still can survive. He has been a TR long before the introduction of a bait to make our leaders submit to the BN government.

Thus, as part of his effort to listen to both sides of the story, he welcomes both BN and Opposition parties to his longhouse. His conscience is clear on this; he does not want to be deceived by either of them. As such, he prefers balanced opinion before making a decision.

And I am also aware of an attempt of a group of Ibans seeking endorsement from a YB to replace a TR whose son does want to take over from his late from as agreed by the folks. This group had been going up and down the street to see the YB for his approval. But to their dismay, the majority of the folks had decided and agreed on another person as their TR.

Therefore, any appointment of a TR by a BN YB is actually a fatal blow to the society as it has a tendency to neglect certain intricate in the community.

    Cheers…

What is MRP-Minor Rural Projects? It seems that Tuai Rumah who are known supporter of the opposition party will not be given the MRP. Is MRP a government obligation OR BN YB’s candies (‘gula batu’), i mean a cheap candies. Some folks will ‘puji’ this Yb’s for giving MRP as it is the only consolation that they have seen all their life;we have to admit MRP are some good for the while,i mean for the BN supporters. Some Tuai Rumah would take the amount of the MRP given as a benchmark of their prowess as Tuai Rumah and the more so he puji the Ybs and lecture his anembiaks to support the BN governmment. Some Tuai Rumah, at the same time boasted that the other Tuai Rumah received less or nothing and allocation of MRPs become a competition, and, a meeting will be held to let all his anembiak knows about the MRP and the folks all agreed that it is better than nothing-the bala sida ibu will start the gossip becerita madah-’manah ybs kitai tu manah, nya sepi sida ke ngelaban perintah Barisan nama utai ulih! And that is that, come the next round of election and the next and the next, and it becomes the habits as naturally as with something that we continue to do everyday;the Iban folks have taken this habits, the habits of electing the same person or party for the sake of MRPs-what else!!!

Some folks will say the government had become the ‘parent’ and the rakyat become the children. It is more to that, we do not choose our own parent, neither our parent choose us before we were born, though after the parent has produced more offspring, some parent may choose to have their ‘anak mas’-as the Malay proverb said. MRPs for Dayak and Iban is SURELY not for ANAK MAS!

Sarawakian and other countries in the world including the American British colonies, that were under British colonial rule were said to be,-’the subjects of the government of the United Kingdom of Great Britain. So at one time when Sarawakian were the subject of the Queen of United Kingdom Of Great Britain,we called the UK our PARENT or MOTHER COUNTRY!

Now we are no longer under British rule, the Malayan no longer called United Kingdom their PARENT OF MOTHER COUNTRY, BUT, in their turn the Malayan insist and see themselves as the PARENT OR MOTHER Country to Sarawakians. Do we called them OUR PARENT OR MOTHER-yes some said, BUT we were already ‘born’,when they came into the picture on 31st August 1957,so even when we agree to be their children,we saw them as our ADOPTED PARENT OR MOTHER,AND, no wonder that we Sabahan and Sarawakian natives become the adopted sons and daughters, whereas some adopted sons and daughters become-ANAK ANGKAT MAS!!!

And so when Sabahans and Sarawakians expect that we do have PARENT or MOTHER GOVERNMENT in the name of Putrajaya, that is what we get-the PARENT who has its ‘ANAK MAS’,and the QUALITIES REQUIRED OF THE ANAK MAS!

  18. ciribut on February 24th, 2012 1:13 pm

What are the Qualities of Anak Mas-one thing they are very manja, they make the parent the most happy, any mistake or mischief are forgiven;what the Anak Mas wants he get it,and there were a time when he is not please with his siblings he will let the parent knows and the other will be punished.

Anak Mas is a sycophant, and, unfotunately that disease has spread to the many Dayak Tuai Rumah,Temmengong,Pengulu, kunsila and other leaders and the Dayak politicians and Dayak elected representatives leaning for ‘BN Parent’ favors, to become the Anak Mas of whoever their masters is.

An ordinary Dayaks has no chance to become Anak Mas,for the many reasons we have mentioned before. The Dayak have no king and queen in their culture to brag of. But Dayak were nice people, even during the headhunting days, even their unfortunate enemy head they took care of properly! The head were never left for the dogs,BUT the irony is that nowadays the Dayak themselves become the dogs, the Iban has been BARKING the loudest! Hear it,hear it-Now i am barking here in this blog!!! Many of us are barking, BUT,as we know very well, our master do not normally keep dogs as pet,and so why should they care for this dogs that bark-i think at a wrong master!

What is our alternative? Some will say become a cat? Another will say find the right master! I think it is not easy to change into cat, however we can find the right master with the correct strategy and probably he will listen to the barking dogs.

  19. Dr. John Brian Anthony on February 24th, 2012 3:53 pm

Puzzleman – you can find what DCC has proposed in the PR alternative budget both in Iban and English. The plan is clearly outline while the detail would become relevant when PR take over Putra Jaya. PR agreed to allocate 1 billion for Dayak to help them close the gap that is social, educational, economics and cultural in nature. PR clearly state also that they is focus on giving individual land title for NCR land.

Concerned voter : UMNO fight for ??? and they not only badmouth Anwar they event bear false witness (fitnah) about his sodomy case. The Datuk T 3 sekawan goes even futher, they plotted to bring Anwar down through deceit and again bear false witness to his relationship with prostitute.

PR says PKFZ is a scam and the court has found its Senior Executive guilty. Shahrizat is being trampled by the “cows” that live in condo. That is not bad mouthing. It is stating the fact.

When I write that BN rob Dayak of their NCR land, and the Government implement many racial and religious bias policies, that is the truth.

When I say that Dayak leaders in BN most of them did not say anything in Parliament and Council Negri – that is saying the truth. Not bad mouthing.

Your advise on how to win election is very good. I do hope that BN will select you as their candidate so that you can practice what you preach. I stood on what I preach and I lose. You will have to make yourself substantial then we will have a better discussion on the subject of winning election. You can use the Gov’t machinery, the gov’t political apparatus of JASA, KEMAS,Information Dept, etc and even RELA for that matter. Is that bad mouthing too or is that the truth above BN government abuse of power?

Enjoy your cyber trooping Mohd Nor.

Dr M’s argument on 1Care is ‘warped’
“…1Care aims to place private medicine under government control, a step further than Dr Mahathir Mohamad’s sweeping health privatisation upheavals in the 1980s that delivered a hefty windfall to Umno’s partners, including Dr Mahathir’s son Mokhzani.””
by Stephanie Sta Maria, FMT, February 17, 2012

A health activist blames Mahathir’s healthcare reforms for the dismal state of the country’s healthcare system today.

PETALING JAYA: Former premier, Dr Mahathir Mohamad’s, defence of the proposed 1Care healthcare system as a means to counter the rising cost of healthcare has come as no surprise to the Citizens Healthcare Coalition (CHC).

Mahathir had said that the government could no longer support the country’s current healthcare costs alone and that the need for contribution towards healthcare could be valid.

But CHC representative, Dr T Jayabalan, said that Mahathir’s comments were to be expected as he was the “architect of healthcare reforms” in 1983.

“By 1994 the pharmaceutical services were privatised, but with the government being a stakeholder,” he said in a statement.

“With the privatisation came a 15-year monopoly for pharmaceutical supplies to the government health facilities by Pharmaniaga. It was a closed tender and this disallowed competition.”

An online news report had earlier noted that “1Care aims to place private medicine under government control, a step further than Dr Mahathir Mohamad’s sweeping health privatisation upheavals in the 1980s that delivered a hefty windfall to Umno’s partners, including Dr Mahathir’s son Mokhzani.”

Jayabalan stated that privatisation had caused the prices of generics to sky-rocket, subsequently denying the underprivileged and the less fortunate access to medicines.

He added that the privatisation process had also involved co-payment by the patient wherein the patient had to purchase essential drugs and devices that were expensive and not in the inventory.

“A study by researchers from Universiti Sains Malaysia (USM) in 2008 on pre and post privatisation prices of drugs showed a price increase of 10.42% from 1995-1996 compared to the pre-privatisation price,” Jayabalan quoted.

“There was also a massive price increase of 64.04% in the prices of drugs from 2001-2003. The study also indicated that drug prices don’t match the inflation rate or the Consumer Price Index (CPI).”

    Poor can’t afford IJN

Jayabalan used the National Heart Institute (IJN) as an example, saying that its corporatisation made it the costliest specialists centres in the country where the poor wait for about two years for treatment while the rich are allowed to schedule overnight surgeries.

“This is what privatisation does and we can credit Mahathir for this dismal state of affairs,” he said.

“It is a warped argument to suggest that rising costs of pharmaceuticals has made healthcare unsustainable since the government only spent 2% of its annual gross domestic product (GDP) on healthcare over the last 13 years.”

Jayabalan called the privatisation of healthcare a “great disservice to the people” as up to 70% of Malaysians are dependent on public facilities.

“Healthcare is a public good and should not be made to fit into a market system,” he asserted.

1Care has sparked outrage from industry practitioners and consumer associations who claim that wage-earners would be forced to contribute 10% of their income to a government-run insurance scheme.

The new scheme however is said to provide limited benefits and force the public to fork out more money for basic healthcare.

    Pharmaniaga’s FY11 net profit up 74%
Full-year 2011 revenue grew 10% to RM1.52 billion, net profit rose 74% to RM52.8 million
The Sun Daily, 22 February 2012

KUALA LUMPUR (Feb 22, 2012): Pharmaniaga Bhd turned in a net profit of RM12.2 million in the fourth quarter ended Dec 31, 2011 after a loss of RM2 million the year before, mainly due to growth in its logistics and distribution division.

For full-year 2011, net profit rose 74% to RM52.8 million from RM30.3 million in FY10. Revenue grew 10% to RM1.52 billion against RM1.38 billion.

Earnings per share were 44.32 sen.

To date, Pharmaniaga has paid dividends amounting to nine sen for FY11, and will pay another 21 sen on March 28. This brings total distribution for the year to RM31.9 million, representing a 61% payout ratio.

Pharmaniaga chairman Tan Sri Lodin Wok Kamaruddin said majority shareholder Boustead Holdings Bhd, which took over the management of the company in the second quarter of last year, has been able to improve the shareholder spread from 2% at the completion of its general offer to 17% currently.

“They are, at present, working to further pare down their stake to meet the shareholder spread of 25%, as Pharmaniaga looks forward to strengthen its earnings potential in the coming financial year (FY12),” he said in a statement yesterday.

Govt to take over medical labs in 2019
THE Government will take over the management of the Health Ministry’s medical laboratory and store from concessionaire Pharmaniaga Bhd in 2019.
The Star, Tuesday December 15, 2009

Deputy Health Minister Datuk Rosnah Abdul Rashid Shirlin said the Pharmaceutical Services Division had suggested the takeover as it would lead to significant savings.

“From the list of medicine supplied, 370 types of medicine (25%) were supplied by Pharmaniaga which in turn received the supplies from its network of 55 small suppliers,” she told Hee Loy Sian (PKR – Petaling Jaya Selatan).

Pharmaniaga’s concession agreement on the medical laboratory and store had been extended for 10 years from Dec 1, she said.

On Khairy Jamaluddin’s (BN – Rembau) supplementary question on why the privatisation was not taken over by the Government on Dec 1, Rosnah said the ministry received the proposal in March to continue with the concession but the division did not object to the concession renewal.

Khairy also asked whether the tender was open to other players when the Government was considering extending Pharmaniaga’s concession.

He was also perplexed as to why the terms and conditions were being negotiated over the next six months after agreement was extended, noting that the company’s managing director, Mohamad Abdullah, had said on Dec 5 that the agreement was subject to terms and conditions which could be negotiated over a period of six months from Dec 1.

    Pharmaniaga acquires Boustead’s pharma divisions
by Andrea Mathew, Malay Mail, Thursday, December 22nd, 2011

KUALA LUMPUR: Pharmaniaga Bhd has acquired Idaman Pharma Manufacturing Sdn Bhd and Idaman Pharma Sdn Bhd for a total of RM99.73 million in efforts to consolidate Boustead’s pharmaceuitical divisions in the country.

This will mean all pharmaceutical divisions under Boustead will be transferred to Pharmaniaga, largest integrated local healthcare company in Malaysia.

A subsidiary of Boustead Holdings Bhd, Pharmaniaga Bhd will see RM95 million capex allocation for the next year.

Pharmaniaga managing director Datuk Farshila Emran (pic) said: “Out of this amount, one-third will go towards its pharmacy information system.

She added: “Pharmaniaga plans to spend about RM30 million between 2012 and 2015 for its Sungai Petani plant expansion project and to upgrade equipment and facilities.”

“We are also looking at pumping RM23 million into the construction of a new plant in Perak, as well as, to expand the existing plant in Seri Iskandar, Perak,” Farshila told reporters after the extraordinary general meeting (EGM) of Boustead Holdings and Pharmaniaga yesterday.

The EGM saw shareholders agreeing to the acquisition of two other Boustead’s pharma divisions by Pharmaniaga.

Some of the developments the company has seen in the last year is the reduction of concession delivery from 60 days to seven days for West Malaysia and 10 days for East Malaysia.

Boustead Holdings Bhd deputy chairman and group managing director Tan Sri Datuk Lodin Wok Kamaruddin said Pharmaniaga would contribute about 10% to Boustead’s bottomline beginning next year and this was expected to increase gradually to 15% over the next two to three years.

“The health sector, including pharmaceuticals, is one of the 12 National Key Economic Areas. We believe the prospects and future for the pharmaceutical business is going to be good,” he said.

Pharmaniaga, the largest integrated local healthcare company holds a 10-year concession to purchase, store, supply and distribute pharmaceuticals and medical products to 3,750 government hospitals and clinics nationwide.

Pharmaniaga’s book value is worth some RM900 million a year.

Another NCR case won in court for the people of Kpg. Lebor, Serian. I respect those bravehearts out there seeking justice, the relentless battle against the Bastard land invaders. They are fooling and deceiving the villagers with their hidden agenda on the pretext of developing the plantation. Instead these YB are the culprits selling the land to giant companies for millions.

UMNO has bigger agenda to acquire lands for their people to migrate to Sarawak years to come, their anaks, cucu will inherit the fortunes while we Dayaks will be slaves and watch in disbelief because Our Dayak leaders are doing nothing to salvage the future of our anakbiaks.

GUYS, stop the irrelevant argument but fight for a noble cause till justice is served for our people.
Let us all be remembered for doing good deeds in life even if it is a simple contribution.

Come prepare for the coming battle (GE13), the autonomy to rule and SAVE Sarawak from catastrophe.

To BARU BIAN, you did a brilliant a Job and serve you duty well as the RIGHT citizen.

How would the blog owner give his humble service to Dayaks and Sarawakians in general, let’s say while not yet elected as ADUN or MP?

After losing in Meluan, he did say he lacks local issues in his campaign. So what specific local issues will he take up and to be identified with him by the voters?

If sustainability is his interest, what relevant issues will he take?

Never stand alone, a lone wolf will become easy prey to the pack. We need the charisma as leader to win the heart of the majority. We must be aware that there are many races living among us. Its the survival for the fittest.

But the fact is, when you loose you have no power to speak up, people wont listen. On the contrary, when you win you get the power of authority. Its a different scenario, don’t be disheartened. workout a better formula for winning this time (GE13), we need to study the SWOT analysis first before we execute our plan.

Dont loose our momentum, victory is within our reach. No Pain No Gain!!!

HOW WOULD YOU AS A DAYAK IBAN, PROVIDE SERVICE TO THE COMMUNITY?

This is interesting because it involves yourself.

You are directing the question to yourself and should be readily finding your own answer.

If you are looking within yourself for the ability to provide service to the community, then there you would see your own capability.

For some, there could be some inner strength within oneself to be made useful to the people.

For some, they might not be bothered at all as they feel that they could mind all the issues surrounding the Dayak Iban. It is a totally waste of time to tell the whole Iban in this world that something could be done to rid us of our plights.

For others, many would typically find weaknesses within yourself, making it almost impossible for him to be bothered by the ongoing within the society.

And because of these weaknesses, he might just take the easy way out by providing a negative answer; not to help the community.

Weaknesses might also lead us to ask others instead of asking yourself.

Another trait of weakness is that the person concerned would not provide suggestions or proposals. Instead, he would just ask sarcastic questions which would lead us to find no solutions.

As a result, the Ibans might not be able to solve our own issues, dragging them along until a group of eagle-eyed individuals initiate something which is taking advantage of our failure to solve theses issues.

So, what can you contribute to the well being of the Ibans?

    Cheers…

To make the receipe more tempting we must add more flavour and enhancer with attractive garnishing.

When we offer our service as leaders to the rayats we must apply the right ingredient/formula for winning the election. We Dayaks need to adapt to the trends of contemporary politics.

Apart from that, this person must have the financial means or support from his compatriots to lay the foundation for success.

Aspiring dayak politicians must work hard (fast) to put things right for the dayaks before its too late!

yes the question may apply to every one but can one wins in elections if one has not done something special to local communities especially if one is with opposition?

  31. js@kbn on March 9th, 2012 2:58 am

If any Dayak candidates to win in next elections under DAP or PR ticket, what preparations should they make from now on?

Would exposing Taib & BN be enough?

  32. engkerawai on March 9th, 2012 8:40 am

Dayak party must be strong and dominant because of the majority factor in Sarawak. If not then we have no absolute authority on what we want to plan for our people.

I can foresee the critical issues …to replace the current leaders, brings them to justice, surrender their stolen wealth to rayats.

But of course the new gov’t will have lots of homework to do to help the Dayaks in the first place since they are lagging far behind in many aspects. Let us be emphatic and work out the formula to defeat BN fast. Failure which we will be ruined and our future destiny will be at stake.

    VOTE FOR CHANGE..enough is enough!!

  33. Bujang Peransang on March 26th, 2012 7:15 am

Assassination is the order of the day, somebody got to do it,that is the norm to settle the score with authoritarian regime.

  34. Cikgu Iban on March 26th, 2012 1:24 pm

Nothing is enough until CM Taib is topple.

But toppling Cm Taib is still not enough until we get back CM Taib and his cronies all the wealth which they have accumulated in our beloved country of Sarawak.

Millions have been siphoned off the country and the task is certainly never enough until the wealth is returned to the nation.

Nothing is enough until the Dayak people are freed from marginalisation and discrimination by the BN Sarawak.

Nothing is enough until the Dayak people are fairly represented in government sectors.

Nothing is enough until we are farily happy with our leaders.

    Cheers…
