Dayak Social Fabric has weaken under BN

The Government focus on weakening the social fabric of Dayak community. The BN leaders who lead this attack are the Dayak leaders themselves led by Tan Sri Jabu. The strategy is to corner the Dayak community leaders: Tuai Rumah, Penghulu, Pemanca and Temenggong. Certain Gov”t Department focus on carrying out the task. The so call process of giving confirmation certificate for Tuai Rumah and the 2 years contract service etc for Penghulu, are the BN tools to control this group of leaders.
Re-engineering of Tuai Rumah (Community leaders).
The appointment by Government of TR is a new BN strategy to win the heart and mind of Dayak community leaders. The giving away of State award eg BBS, ABS etc is another way of keeping the community leaders in line. In fact, in the 2006 and 2011 election, the Dayak leadership structure was extensive used and abused by BN to undermine the long house voters
The re-engineering of the role of TR was good initially and the allowance that they got was helpful. But when political party start to use the institution of Dayak Community Leadership position as reward for those people who supported them to win their election that start the destruction of the Dayak social fabric. Dayak Community leaders should focus on upholding the “DAYAK ADAT”. But regretfully, it is the BN Government that start to pull them into politics. When this happen the role of keeping the DAYAK ADAT become secondary but to ensure that the BN win the election become primary. When a Community leader is a member of any political party, it will create a disunity factor.
Then the YBs used the Dayak Community leaders institution to grab Dayak land. Some TR even sign out their long house “pulau galau” to timber company and “pemakai menoa” to palm oil planting companies. A TR is only responsible to administer the adat in the long house while the respective “tuai bilik” is responsible for their own parcel of land. The influence of corrupted BN Dayak leaders inspire and encourage the Dayak Community leaders to “compromise” their NCR land and even negotiate such land with JV in palm oil for a small sum pf money.
“The effect is, the Dayak NCR land ownership is weaken and which if not arrested will eventually disappear into the hand of others at a very minimal cost”.
Thus BN Government always dismiss problem of NCR issues by even saying that “kapa ngasuh madang babas tumbuh di tanah NCR manah agi beri ngagai company alai nanam sawit”. BN wanted to get cheap land and many BN supporters wanted to make easy money “kantau” with the investor by taking commission from the surrendering of such land to planters. By so doing, the most important factor to economic success, that is land would be taken away from the Dayak. In future the landless Dayak would be “dirt” poor and would become “labourers” for others who got the land cheaply from them.
I felt that such TR or BN supporters that act as brokers to the land deal are actually selling the future of Dayak away. The land is “tumbuh rumput. timbuh babas” becasue the Government is not doing their work properly to help the Dayak in creating small holding for planting cash crop. The objective of BN politican is always to make money for himself and this is also true to those BN grass root leaders. There have very little conscience about the lost of Dayak land to others which will make Dayak poorer in future.
The political suppression of Dayak by their own community leaders
The BN Government used MRP and promised of Community leadership position to suppress the Dayak. The MRP look so great for the poor Dayak and those who wanted to be seen in public badly wanted to become Penghulu and even Councillors. These are the very people that threaten the people to support the Government, if not “we will not share with you the MRP allocation given by the Government”.
Dayak placed great importance on communal rights and peer pressure within the community. The Government took advantage of their position and reinforce this “fear factor” in the rural dayak community. Young and educated Dayak should rise up and speak out against this threat. It is destroying the spirit and community strength of Dayak. We must not allow the Dayak to become victim of their own community leaders under the direction of BN Government.
Conclusion
Many bad things are done unto our Dayak social fabric arrangement by the present Government. Such effort has now not only weaken us but the Government split the Dayak until they are almost helpless. Who is going to help us solve this problem?
The answer is all of us who have the understanding of the issue that can bring out Dayak downfall in Sarawak even though we are the majority. You do not need to be official member of any political party in order to do the correction. You need just to tell them that we must fight for change : UBAH the government who after 49 years could not give us a race category in our own country. We do not want to be called “lain-lain”. We are Dayak!

I’m not surprise,more federal ministers will come to distribute the goodies and empty promises to the people of Sabah and Sarawak. Its the sign of election to come very soon. We must strengthen our machinery and psyche wars to teach BN particularly the Dayaks YBs in SUPP and PBB. These YBs’ are selling their pride and dignity and allow their wicked master to disunite the Dayaks and strengthen BN to power instead.
Keep informing our people by any means, spreading the word of wisdom and the slogan; CHANGE MUST HAPPEN for the better!

The Bintulu PKR`s chief Paul Raja said today that he was interested to contest Bintulu Parliamentary seat during GE 13, but I was given to understand that Dr.John Brian Anthony of DAP was also eyeing this parliamentary constituency.
Yes, both PKR and DAP are in the coalition of Pakatan Rakyat and hopefully PR will select the winnable candidate to take the incumbent from BN.

‘In Lawas a hospital visit costs RM700?

Lawas and Limbang divisions are in the far northern corner of Sarawak and only accessible by road either via Brunei or Sabah.
KOTA KINABALU: Villagers in remote parts of Lawas on the Sabah-Sarawak border claim they have to spend as much as RM700 to visit the nearest hospital in the district.
Their misery doesn’t end there. Many of them have to spend an additional RM100 on transportation to travel to Kota Kinabalu to seek further treatment at Queen Elizabeth Hospital (QEH) if their case is a complicated one.
Critical and surgical cases are referred to the main general hospital in Sabah due to the shorter distance compared to travelling to Limbang, via Brunei, or 2,000km to Kuching.
These were among the complaints received by Sarawak PKR leader Baru Bian while on his campaign trail in Lawas. Bian is PKR’s candidate in Ba’kelalan.
Dr Roland Chia, a PKR central supreme council member, who accompanied Bian during his campaign said he was surprised to hear of their plight.
Chia said their visit was an eye-opener as the villagers also told of the difficulty they faced earning a living by selling their produce due to the lack of road transport system and infrastructural development in the rural areas.
“They said that to sell their produce, many of them have to travel from Ba’ Kelalan, Long Semadi which is at least a four hour of road ride on some timber trails, to reach the nearest Tamu Besar in Lawas.
“That would easily cost them up to RM100 one-way from their village to the Lawas town.
“Many complained that a lot of their harvest never reached the town because of high transportation costs and they will remain poor due to very poor road infrastructure and lack of basic amenities.
“This is certainly a mockery of the PM’s slogan of “Rakyat Didahulukan, Pencapaian Diutamakan,” Chia said.

The federal government has built a total of 222.95km of rural roads, achieving 100 per cent of its target of rural road construction in the state last year.
This was disclosed by Deputy Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yasin at a meet-the-people session at SJK (C) Tong Ah here yesterday.
He said the government had targeted to supply water to 13,024 households in rural Sarawak, but 18,054 houses in the rural areas were now supplied with water.

Dayak survival in the country that being control by the MELAYU AND MUSLIM is not only about who is the best candidate to win any election, There are a lot of issues that any Dayak leader, I mean the genuine leader need to tackle to ensure Dayak not anymore become the followers but we want to be the TOP leader in the Government or any other organisation especially in SARAWAK here at our own home, but this genuine leaders definitely not JABU/MASING/MAWAN/ENTULU/MAUH and the rest of current DAYAK leaders in BN, these leaders only knows how to influence and encourage us all to sustain our loyalty to the MALAYA/MELAYU/MUSLIM only, they do not have any agenda to ensure that DAYAK must be EQUALLY the same as MELAYU/MELANAU/CINA/TIMBI INDAI, the current group of Dayak leaders in BN only thinking of their political survival and enrich themselves because that is the objectives being a politician as an example already given and shown by the KING BUBAN to all of them. They have no pride being a Dayak, because to them what is pride for, unless pride can make them powerful and rich, the most terrible leaders on earth that lead their own tribe. Luckily at this moment, we have not seen another ethnic cleansing yet, otherwise these group Of BN IBAN leaders may slaughter us all first before our real enemy come, the intention is very clear, to get and obtains all the REWARDS.
Now, can we all see right now at this moment the TUAI RUMAH was elected only if they are BN supporter otherwise the BN government will never credited their account for the monthly allowances that BN use to control them and to make sure that TUAI RUMAH are all the times able to influence the ‘anembiak’ and votes the only PERFECT political party on earth BARISAN NASIONAL lead by UMNO THE MALAYA.
Next is our land, why on earth did Masing supported the land code and the amendment made by King Buban and his people especially the MALAYS that always NOT HAPPY to see that DAYAK own a lot of lands. These Dayak leaders in BN never realise that the MALAYS always question us why did Dayak own a lot of land? I remember in one incident, the land and survey personnel question my in law how come she has a lot of land, all the staffs in that land and survey department were Malays/Muslim, so he said, may be some of the land were STATE LAND, therefore, until today the two piece of land which already being planted with MULUNG for the last 3 generation became the State land and seems to be not possible to be owned by them again.
All the Dayak tribes in this country of Sarawak, have no other choice but only STRIKE and get rid from all the current DAYAK leaders in the BN, let them all get out from the Parliament house and Dewan Undangan Negeri, they are not representing us, they never voice out our problem unless if they are being instructed by King Buban or if it is not sensitive to the MALAY/MUSLIM, otherwise our problem is less priority compared to those facing by the Malays/Muslim or even the Chinese. Come on Dayak, wake up, the BN especially the Malays(PBB/UMNO)/Malaya will never attend to our problems seriously because they knows very well that DAYAKS/IBANS are forever BN FIXED DEPOSIT.
Dayak cultural values MUST be suppress and that is the policy or agenda of the Malay muslim dominated government. The Malays and muslims cultural values must be raised and we can see the Malay agenda to promote their values to a much higher level than before at a rapid pace. And so the Malays become a progressive race and this make it easier for the other weaker race especially the Dayaks and Iban to accept the Malayan DOMINATION.
Once upon a time, as history tell us the Malays of Malaya were not powerful and advance and therefore they were ruled by the Siamese Kings, and eventually with the arrival of European,the Portuguese, they were subdued and finally came under British rule. Thanks to the Japanese,and as result of nationalism former countries that were colonised become independent states. Malaya was still weak militarily,the British have little knowledge of the jungle and the Dayak Trackers were sought to fight to defend Malaya during the Emergency. They would not be able to conquered the Bornean states by military force,and,therefore with the help of the British,the Malayan conquered Sabah and Sarawak through colonisation. Once we, Sabahans and Sarawakians were under the yoke of colonialism they,the Malays and muslims dominated government begin their hidden agenda to suppress the cultural values of the Borneans people, and instilled an alien values in every young children from the lowest to the highest level of education. If the Malayan has no ambition to colonised the Borneans States-then what do we call all this marginalistion of the Dayaks.
In the Borneo Posts,the minister talk of development about establishment of new districts,clinics,suraus etc which admittedly are the good,BUT when they talk of development in terms of Police Complex that cost millions of ringgits-what kind of development is that? At best it is for security,if that lead to any reduction of crime or prevention of illegal activities.At the worst it is easier for the government to enforced their power as can be seen in land dispute matters.But surely,if the ministers meant to say that the building of police complex is development,it is the development of the wallet of the ‘FAT CAT’,by awarding the multi-million contract to certain individual.

The biggest error of judgment of the Sabahan and Sarawakian Dayak and native leaders who agreed to the formation of Malaysia in 1963, was that they have no knowledge that their numbers (Sabah and Sarawak population), was to balance the Malayan Malays with the Malayan Chinese so that within these two groups,one group,viz,the Malayan Malays will not become polarize by the Chinese who were numerically equivalent to the Malayan Malays population,when Singapore joined the Federation Of Malaya. In the end,as we experience now, we the Borneans natives ourselves became ‘swallow-up’,by the Malayan Malays!!! This does not need a lot of common sense to understand,but, the Native Bornean inhabitants have lost their common sense in the last 48 years. When will we all have the common sense to end this continued exploitation and domination by imperialist Malaya?
The Dayak social fabric is continously being weakened everyday mainly because the rural Dayak community is dirt poor and therefore easily controlled and manipulated by evil forces. I beleive, the least those of us who are aware of this well coordinated evil strategy by the BN could do is to spread the word to the longhouse folks to regularly tune to RADIO FREE SARAWAK. Hopefully, by listening to RADIO FREE SARAWAK over time, they will be able to see the world around them differently.

PITY THE IBans!
When it comes to suppression, many of us are not having any clue as to how the current BN State Government has actually carried it out.
When we ask the rural folks, many seem to know that they have been suppressed. But how much have the Ibans been suppressed is anybody’s guess because it is quite subjective.
When we ask if they are satisfied with the current policies of the government in treating the Ibans, many would have no hesitation to say that our Iban leaders have not discharged their responsibility up to expectation.
The Iban leaders in BN government are merely to make up the number. They are playing a nominal role in Taib’s government, without much authority to decide on behalf of the Ibans.
Many would be just happy to become spectators when the government is drawing a policy for the Ibans, without any objection.
However, when these YBs are going back to their constituencies, they pretend to speak like they know everything; the TRs with little education would easily be deceived. The deceived Trs, Penghulu and councillors would then, without knowing the sleek move by these, persuade or even force the anembiak to support the YB.
And this loophole in our TR leadership has been abused by the BN Ybs, resulting in strengthening the BN support and at the same time weakening our traditional system.
We should have pity on the Ibans!

He is too happy to be treated as “scrap collector” for BN/UMNO. This is the kind of dayak who will put his life to bring Sarawak and dayak in particular to be doomed.

Penang Chief Minister Lim Guan Eng @Tai Chi Grandmaster must stop playing “tai chi politics” and respond to all questions over the sale of 41ha of prime land in Bayan Mutiara to a private developer for RM1.1 billion.
It was reported that the developer was proposing a mixed development in the area, with an estimated gross development value of RM10 billion.

PRS strongman quits BN, slams ‘bully’ Taib
Tedewin Ngumbang: “I cannot stand it anymore. I cannot stand to see how Taib treats PRS and Masing.”

In a shocking move Parti Rakyat Sarawak’s (PRS) strongman Tedwin Ngumbang has quit the party he founded, slamming Chief Minister Taib Mahmud for ‘bullying and ignoring’ PRS.
Ngumbang, who is ‘special adviser’ to party president James Masing, said Taib ‘consistenty ignored’ Masing’s requests and demands which were in the interest of the Dayak community and this compelled him to resign.
“I am uncomfortable to see PRS being bullied and ignored by Taib.
“What the PRS president asks in the name and interest of Dayaks in letters to Taib, the chief minister does not reply. He just ignores them,” he said, pointing out that Masing tried his best.
Ngumbang’s resignation has shaken the political community in PRS as he is seen as someone who has ‘everything’ going for him, both in business and politics.
His move from his ‘comfort zone’ has thrown-up speculations of a possible exodus to revive Sarawak National Party (SNAP).
Ngumbang, who announced his decison to SNAP president Edwin Dundang after a SNAP symposium here yesterday, said: “I cannot stand it anymore. I cannot stand to see how Taib treats PRS and Masing.”
Citing the case of controversial assemblyman Larry Sng and the Pelagus seat, Ngumbang said Taib had added insult-to-injury when he ignored Masing’s call to replace Sng from his ministerial post.
“It was a slap for PRS. Larry (Sng) was sacked from PRS and Masing wanted him to be replaced as an assistant minister with another PRS elected representative.
“But Taib not only ignores Masing, but gives two more assistant ministerial posts to Sng. This is an insult not only to PRS, but to the Dayak community.
“I cannot stand this anymore,” he said.
Founding member
Ngumbang was one of those responsible for the formation of PRS during the leadership crisis of Parti Bansa Dayak Sarawak (PBDS) which led to its deregistration on Oct 21, 2004.
At the same time PRS was registered, claiming to replace PBDS.
And in the crisis of the newly formed PRS, Tedewin also played a leading role which led to the expulsion of Larry Sng from the party in April in 2009.
Commenting on Ngumbang’s resignation, PRS secretary general Wilfred Nissom said that he expected to receive the former’s resignation letter this Monday.
“Tedewin (Ngumbang) has a cause for which he has a strong feeling. We respect his decision to want to leave PRS in order to pursue his cause,” Nissom said.
Challenging Jabu?
Meanwhile Ngumbang’s resignation has prompted speculation that he may take on incumbent Deputy Chief Minister Alfred Jabu Numpang in the Layar constituency in the coming state election. Jabu has been representing the area for more than 36 years.
Ngumbang, who is related to Jabu, is very popular among the people of Layar.
Ngumbang is believed to ‘know the insides’ about Jabu and may want to use such information in the coming election.
“For the time being, I am assessing my chances in Layar,” said Ngumbang when asked of his plans.
“I want to talk to my supporters first … I want to know whether they prefer me or Joe Unggang,” he added, saying that he believed that a three-cornered fight was likely in Layar as PKR was also keen on the seat.
SNAP, which has its birthplace in Betong, is certain to contest the seat. In fact, it has identified a number of candidates for the seat.
SNAP secretary general Stanley Jugol welcomed Tedewin to join the party, but could not promise him anything.
“SNAP welcomes anyone who shares its struggle to join the party,” he said.
He agreed that Ngumbang’s move to SNAP will likely compell many more disillusioned members of the BN to join the party in the next few weeks. – FMT

KUCHING: A Parti Rakyat Sarawak (PRS) leader has slammed Dayak leaders for their lack of concern for the victims of the Rajang logjam “ecological disaster” resulting from the landslides in the upper reaches of the Rajang and Baleh rivers.
Party deputy information chief Tedewin Ngumband said other than causing the death of tonnes of fish, two persons had reportedly died in the landslides and thousands of Ibans had lost their sources of income.
Yet none of the state’s top Dayak leaders showed concern.
“So far only James Masing seems to be concerned with the ecological disaster that has caught the attention of people worldwide.
“It is not because he is the state assemblyman for Baleh, but because the logjam and debris have caused so much hardship to the people who depend on the rivers for their communication and as sources of income.
“But where are our other Dayak leaders such as Deputy Chief Minister Alfred Jabu, Federal Minister of Natural Resources and Environment Douglas Uggah Embas, Minister of Infrastructure Development Michael Manyin and Minister of Social Development and Urbanisation William Mawan Ikom?” Tedewin asked.
He said Jabu, being the senior Dayak minister, should have been the first to visit the victims. He is not only a Dayak leader for Betong but for the whole of Sarawak.
“So is Uggah Embas, who is the minister of natural resources and environment. It is his job not only to assess the extent of damage, but also to see to the victims and their welfare.
“It would appear to me that they are playing safe or simply looking after their own interests.
“I thought ‘people first’ is the Barisan Nasional battle cry. Has it been washed away by the logjam?” asked Tedewin, pointing out that the issue of logging activities is very “sensitive” as a number of prominent people are involved.
He said Masing, who is the land development minister, had been very vocal against uncontrolled logging activities at the upper reaches of Rajang and Baleh rivers and had called on the authorities to take stern action against these errant companies.
PRS is a component member of the Barisan Nasional of which Masing is the president.
State government’s policy questioned
Tedewin also questioned the state government’s policy on forest management and approach.
He said the state government had always propagated that it practised the most holistic approach to logging activities and maintains the best international standard and practices in our forest management.
“We have been telling the people and the world that we maintain sustainability and reforestation and respect our jungles and all its inhabitants.
“We (keep telling the people that we) have a systematic, environmental friendly, responsible and sustainable methodology in our due care of our forests and rivers in order to safeguard our flora and fauna.
“But these pictures of logs and debris that we see along the Rajang River tell the real stories. What you and I see in front or our own eyes is a disaster of immense proportions,” said Tedewin.
The logs and debris spreading over 250 kilometre of Rajang River since last Friday had damaged a number of bridges worth RM2.7 million and the loss of income and the problems the logjam created are yet to be estimated.

When Lim Guan Eng took over the CM post Penang’s debt was RM680 million. He restructured, paid and returned these loans and today stand at a very healthy RM36 million, very much less than the annual income from Penang.

The dayak weakening is a curse for us due to the bad practices of Headhunting? Or simply we dont bother to learn or our people are less educated compared to the Malays, Chinese, Indians.
Our values are slowly degrading, it looks like our people are not ready to face the evolution of human struggle in the present context.
Its imperative to restructure and reform our ways of thinking, how we percieved things that happen around us. The majority Dayaks are still narrow-minded and ignorant of the need for CHANGE.
I dare say that Dayaks have fears, doubts and pessimistic, lacked esteem in fighting for the core issues affecting their own people.
Since most dayaks politcian starts from scratch they were most willing to bow and faced submission to TAIB through money politics. Taib will shut them with his power and money. Thats the fate we we have to face when we are weak and hopeless.

This is the right time our leaders demand for our share and pressure the federal govt to give assistance in whatever form to the community in all fields of devt esp in education & rural devt.
Dayak BN ybs should seek assurance from the federal govt in exchange for fixed deposit voters. If PR failed to wrest power from BN at least our community benefit from that assurance.
YB Mong, please do your part to help your nembiaks to get some assistance from the govt instead of punish them for not supporting you.
