Jawatankuasa Protem Tindakan Rakyat Baram (JTRB)
melancarkan Kempen Tandatangan Penduduk Baram bagi sebulat suara membantah projek pembinaan Empangan Baram di kawasan mereka.
Pengerusinya,Philip Jau berkata kempen ini adalah inisiatif jawatankuasa untuk menentang pembinaan empangan yang sebelum ini menimbulkan keresahan di kalangan penduduk terutama kaum Kenyah dan Kayan.
“Kempen ini mewakili rintihan rakyat di kawasan Baram yang terancam dengan pembinaan empangan. Kita mahu suara ini sampai dan didengar kerajaan, sejajar dengan rakyat didahulukan, pencapaian diutamakan,” katanya semasa pelancaran kempen itu di sebuah hotel di Miri hari ini.
Kempen itu dilancarkan sempena Forum Awam Empangan Baram anjuran bersama JTRB, Pakatan Konservasi Alam Sekitar Sarawak (SCANE) dan Institut Sumber Borneo Malaysia (BRIMAS). Read more

Rahman Yakub – not honest in his opinion

Pakatan Rakyat promised to give Sabah and Sarawak 20% of royalty from oil from 5% today given by BN should Pakatan Rakyat win control of Sarawak government.
My contention is we should received 50% on oil royalty. However 20% is 4 times better then the 5% we received today. 5% royalty is translated into about RM$1 billion per year. With 20% we will have RM4 billion per year and with that we can bring Sarawak upward very quickly in infra-structure progress and basic health and amenities services into Sarawak.
Najib promised RM3.8 billion to Sarawak today. The 20% oil royalty is much more then that and assumed we are given extra RM3.8 billion, then Sarawak would have RM$7.8 billion money to spend.
It is time we must claim our rights with bigger royalty from the Federal Government. Pakatan Rakyat give us such opportunity and I see no wrong for us to play our part as Sarawak voters to secure that 20% for Sarawak.
Rahman Yakub is an uncle to Taib. Sarawak has had enough of this family in ruling Sarawak. The family and family members are now very rich from sucking our State resources for personal gain.
Change WE must!- get our 20% royalty for Sarawak rapid development under Pakatan Rakyat. Read more

Blind and Biased Judges

Former Court of Appeal Judge NK Chan made a blistering attack on some judges who he says are not competent and biased towards UMNO led Government.
Many of us Dayakbaru might think that this is happening in Malaya only. This is not true. It can also happen in Sarawak and Sabah too even though we have a different Chief Justice.
We Dayak have many land cases awaiting hearing. We may get incompetent judges to preside over the case, a judge who has little knowledge of our ADAT and CULTURE. We can also have judges that are totally bias for the government and therefore would not see the difference between justice and injustice.
Dayakbaru are however thankful that some important cases has been decided in favor of recognizing natives rights over their land despite the government effort to extinguish such rights.
We must stay vigilant over biased judgment and injustice for Dayak. Our community from now on must respond strongly over bias judgment and injustice done to us through the judiciary. It is about time we consider going into the street to fight and draw attention to our rights in a democratic country. Read more

Federal Ministers frequent visit to Sarawak

Is it true or false
The Prime Ministers visited Sarawak quite frequent compared to earlier Prime Minister. The last time he came he announced RM$3.4 billion allocation for Sarawak. He also announced additional RM$2.8 million on top of the RM$4 million announced a year ago for the DBNA building fund.
The BN parties gloat and boasted about the announcement as a reflection of Federal Government commitment to help develop Sarawak.
Earlier on, in 2008 after the March 8 election where Sabah and Sarawak kept the BN in power in KL, Hisham announced RM$1 billion in extra allocation to reward Sarawak in addition to a handsome some of RM$4 billion already given.
In Lubok Antu a generous sum of RM$80 milllion was announced to uplift the constituency in a by-election.
All these money – is it real or mere “cakap kosong”. The reason is simple, we live in Sarawak but we never see any development which such money can bring into Sarawak. Are we Sarawakian being fooled? Read more

You’re nothing if you’re landless
As Native, we can’t blame anyone if we all end up landless and be forced to seek in the littering urban areas as ‘Bangsa Orang Setinggan Sarawak’ (BOSS) and/or ‘slump dog’. We still have time to acknowledge our “Native Rights”. If we failed to plan, we plan to fail.
Ignorance of the law is no excuse and inaction in the face of encroachments onto our land is the sure path to landlessness. We may have many NGOs but how effective and active are these organization today?
We need to Change our think to ‘rethinking model’; what, why, where and how we have gone wrong, and find what possibilities and opportunities beyond all these? Read more

Politik Munoh Rakyat – land grab.

PBB Convention
Th PBB Ministers and its Supreme Council member wanted to discuss the “land development” with greater depth in today’s convention. To me this is frightening – does it mean that the government have not thought through ALL the issues that may arise from the new land development concept. PBB nad BN Ministers even state that “land issues” are dead issues – nothing to talk about. Is PBB trying to wake up a dead horse in this case or is PBB admitting that there are mistakes in this concept and that the people are not agreeing with the government.
New land Development Concept
Awang Tengah blame it on the big “gap” on the understanding between the government and the people on new land development concept. I think that is not the excuse. Initially most people do not bother with the new land development concept because the people think that the government will not grab their land – they believed that the land belong to them according to the ADAT of natives of Borneo. The politicians has different ideas as they are looking for new sources for their personal wealth as timber is done with now.
BN Politicians are given dayak NCR land as reward for their support
Many politicians own plantation land that include NCR land. Is that the PRIZE that Taib gives them for being loyal and dumb in BN? The Simunjan YB is well known to have much plantation land – where did he got it from? It is known to us as BN ” Politics Munoh Rakyat”. Read more

Is there any progress in Baram?

According to Lihan, there is much progress in Baram. I try to recalled some familiar names from Baram – the late Luhat Wan, Kebing Wan, Balan Seling, Edward Jeli, Jacob D, Slyvester Entri, Harrison Ngau – Temenggong Oyong Lawai Jau etc.
The projects:
1. School at Long Bedian especially for Penan, in addition two other schools namely SMK Tutoh Apoh and SMK Tinjar
2. Klinik desa at Pusat Pertumbuhan Desa (RGC) Long Lama is 50% completed
3. 14 kms road from Ulu Teru to Long Lama completed last December.
The value of resources taken and money given for development is way out of balance in Baram Read more

BN policies are bringing Malaysia to its knees

Why are Malaysian so uptight with BN?
Living under the policies of Barisan Nasional is very stressful. Being a non- Malay and a non- Muslim make life very difficult. Sometime I wish to know the reason why. When I talked to many professional people, medical doctors, engineers, lawyers, financiers etc 7 out of 10 feel the same way. They would go to the extend and say please do not not talk about what the government is doing in Malaysia – because they actually do not know what they are doing.
The Malaysian government is too much on ploticking and it influence the way they devised policies, its implementation and with a clear standard for monitoring. It is more often then not, implementation are carried out to suit “personal agenda”. The main interest is “what is it in for me more then what is good for the country”.
The most troubling experience I have as a Malaysian working and in touch with almost the whole spectrum of Malaysian society is the lack og “common sense” in the way the government is ruling this country. The examples are many. Read more

Malaysia living on money pump in by government – it is bad.

We must explain to the people that Malaysia economy is artificial – ” it is supported by money pump in by the government into the economy”. It is not real growth. The real situation now is very little money is moving around and available in the market. Many people are just keeping their money but others pump out their money overseas. Corrupted politicians are hiding their money overseas – they are not reinvesting in Malaysia.
Najib will not be able to stay for long undrr this situation to lead the government. BN is bound to lose the next election. In Sarawak, the cash that Taib got will be used to buy vote. If Dayak continue not to be able to change their ways -the Dayak stuggle would go down to only $10 -$50.00 per vote. But situation has changed and I want Dayakbaru to push for that change so we may succeed to take our community from being ‘marginalized” by BN.

BN bound for Defeat, says Ku Li

UMNO supreme council members are asking why is Ku Li free to do and say anything he wants. The reality is he is royal and he is at the top of the ladder in Ketuan Melayu. Nothing will happen to him. KU Li doen’t play wayang kulit but UMNO is.
Dayakbaru – try to understand this situation: a Malay government in Kelantan, Islamic and they needed help. What is the Mulsim Malay UMNO is saying – I cannot give you royalty for oil. Wang eshan yes. But if I give you, I must give you through “legal means” – direct to the people – through UMNO. Then you know how much of that money would be lost inside personal UMNO pocket.
$3.4 billion for Sarawak
The Sarawak BN component party politicians are nervous now – thinking of ways how to land some money from the $3.4 billion into their pocket. They will form $2 company and looking for partners etc and promised the partners that they can get some part of the project but at a fee. That is BN “kantau”. Think of it carefully, then you realize what is left for the rakyat. All those BN goons are imaging their share in the money to be given. Of course Taib and cronies will “sapu ” most of it but still some BN members are happy with the bone left over. The point is they would sell the interest and rights of the Dayak to earn their money.
